Interesting piece about the mess over at Arsenal that struck chord with me, this morning.

Please don’t deliberately misunderstand me. As stupid ideas go, deciding to play at Wembley is in the top 5 of bad ideas. Little if anything can change that.

But what isn’t acceptable is for players to decide that it isn’t down to them to step up and make the difference, to try their best to find the answer.

Tottenham are currently as good as 12/1 to win the Premier League, in spite of the Wembley issue. There is no such thing as a foregone conclusion at this level and the best app for navigating the minefield is undoubtedly the app for bet365.

Dele Alli is the player I have in mind as being the weak link in the Tottenham Hotspur chain in this respect.

Petit told the Sunday Mirror: “When I see them play they seem to play Βwithout motivation. The blame is put on Arsene, but I cannot see that it is all down to him. Why should it be?

“Why should a player need motivating to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, in one of the best stadiums in the world? Some of them do not seem to know what it means to wear that Arsenal shirt.Β They get good money to play for a club like Arsenal. Yet, so few of them look happy and motivated. How can that be?

“Someone should sit them down and tell them not to act like babies and kids. They should be proud of wearing that Arsenal shirt.

“Many of those players do not seem to realise how lucky they are to be at the club. I just want to shake the tree and tell them how fortunate they are to play at a club of Arsenal’s standing.

“If Arsenal are to achieve anything this season, then the motivation must come back into the team. And the players have to be responsible for that.”

Spurs fans are being charged through the eyeballs to go to an unforgiving venue. We know that it wasn’t the players that made the choice, however at a time when ALL of them are being paid more money than they have EVER been paid before, they need to give every game their all.

If they don’t, then they may as well play for the Arsenal…

      What can be done?
By Jonathan Marcus, BBC defence and diplomatic correspondent
North Korea’s sixth nuclear test – probably its largest so far – sends out one clear political signal.
Despite the bluster and threats from the Trump administration in Washington and near-universal condemnation from around the world, Pyongyang is not going to halt or constrain its nuclear activities.Worryingly, it also suggests that this is a programme that is progressing on all fronts at a faster rate than many had expected. So far all efforts to pressure North Korea – sanctions, isolation and military threats – have all failed to move Pyongyang.
Could more be done? Certainly, but the harshest economic pressure would potentially cripple the regime and push it towards catastrophe – something China is unwilling to countenance.
Containment and deterrence will now come to the fore as the world adjusts its policy from seeking to roll-back Pyongyang’s weapons programme to living with a nuclear-armed North Korea.

Its a temporary crutch we have to make the best of. We β€˜re veering off somewhat, I was primarily making a comment about arsenals players and stadium.

Ill just give you this one
Michael Jordan said ge didt care what the game was or where it was it was always huge for him. He always wanted to win.
He made himself bigger than that all the barriers people put up. Thats what winners do.
Thats why some managers can impart that feeling into the players. Its about belief and faith not places and teams.
    Clough,Revie,Ferguson,Mourinho have that intensity.
    Thats what Im talking about
Its about being bigger than Wembley.
Its the way the Beatles and Brisn Epstein sae the world compared to all the others.

You can’t overstate how a home stadium affect players on many levels. Its interesting arsenal have developed this reputation since their move. The cavanous mall type energy void of the emerites has seeped into their being. Its hypothetical but despite highburys vocal shortcomings I’d wager we would see a different arsenal if they were there still. That’s another worry about our move. We’ve already seen the difference in our home performances this season. Deny it if you will but these things are a factor.

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? September 3, 2017 at 1:30 pm

Cup finals are 1 off occasions. I’m talking about seasons at home. Chelsea’s ground was awful, it probably improved it. The fans are on top of the players now. I wouldn’t suggest its 100% the reason but it undeniably has an impact.

          • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:32 pm

We can use it to our advantage if we learn and adjust and all other teams would not have an easy time.We should have got it right before now.

            • McG September 3, 2017 at 1:45 pm

We’ve had injuries, and played many weakened sides over the past few years. I still say once our players are back & new signings integrated, thens the time to look at our Wembley form.

              • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:45 pm

Yeovils ground is a slanted pitch but they learned how to play on it and I believe they actually knocked Arsenal out of the cup on it (ok another one off) but ever game isnt a season its the one game. When teams play us its like a Cup game anyway so for me its no difference. The only difference is we have a better chance of getting used to Wembley that other teams have

                • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? September 3, 2017 at 1:53 pm

    • McG September 3, 2017 at 1:30 pm

I think the level of detail in terms of sound engineers etc, closer to the pitch, no gaps up top for sound to escape (other than the roof) will make it a lot different to goons. Just a question of how long it takes for the place to feel like home. Not long I recon, hopefully they’ll take pride in their new workplace…

      • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:33 pm

The sound comes from fans singing that believe in their team. The players have to believe first! Then the fans will follow! its not the other way around.

  • McG September 3, 2017 at 1:11 pm

I recon half the goon problems are down to the salaries they’re getting paid, motivation for players like Nemo & Sanchez doesn’t seem to be there. Also shows with Ox, just chucking money at your problems isn’t necessarily the answer…

    • SpurAndy πŸ’Ο€ September 3, 2017 at 1:22 pm

I think 80% of their problems are down to Wenger. His tactics and player development are from a different age. The world has moved on and he hasn’t. I’d love to see another contract extension after this one. The other 20% is the players, even if you’re set up badly like they were against the dippers pride should kick in after you’re a couple of goals down to make changes on the pitch yourself.

    • McG September 3, 2017 at 1:18 pm

We’ve purchased two absolute beasts. We all waxing lyrical about Aurier, but Sanchez passing accuracy is also 89%, only Dembele comes close. He also has pace to burn like Aurier. I can’t wait to see how quickly we turn defence into attack, gonna be frightening. Son & Llorente on the bench, add Lamela to that & we have some quality options there too.

      • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:28 pm

Aurier I can already see what he is about. BUt Sanchez may grow into something else…He looks like he can read the game well

    • WitTank September 3, 2017 at 1:34 pm

Makes you wonder Ron whether Pochettino plans to use him in a different role rather than CB, possibly even as a replacement to Dier should he go to ManU.

Both He and Aurier have pace and skill its now just a question as to whether they can cope with the Prem’s intensity. My money says they can.

Foyth is a prospect and Llorente is proven.

All round a really good transfer window imo and looks like Barkley’s desire to play for Pochi and his injury has fallen right into Levy’s hands

      • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:42 pm

Yes we do have to sew. The way Aurier plays there is no problem at all he doesnt see the field or the opponents just does what he does and does it fantasticly (a bit of Mackay there)
Llorente too will be perfect. He is not looking to prove himself,he is seasoned.

Davinson Sanchez from what we can see has an all round capability. We would have to see him in the intensity of the Premier league and the pace but he seems really capable and I can see him grow even beyond a CD or DM. His game looks very fluid, his long passes accurate it seems, headers and tackles too with a good eye and timing. He really could play in the middle of the park it seems.Lets see how he develops.

        • WitTank September 3, 2017 at 1:48 pm

To me he looks like he can play anywhere – lets see.

Sadly only saw Dave Mackay at the end of his career when he’s slowed up. My Dad really rated him. On one funny occasion I ran back home from Brookfield Lane after watching an A team match (the most enjoyable footy I ever saw) & told him I’d seen the new Dave Mackay. He laughed and said “oh yeah, right”
          It was Graeme Souness !

          • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 1:53 pm

Dave Mackay to me was the soul of Tottenham. Very quickly with us fans saw him as a power not just physically but mentally too and spiritually. When he ran out onto the field we knew that everthing was going to be ok.He gave the fans faith. Really.
Blanchflower gave us the brains and creativity. It was a powerful time for us.
I see that strength in Aurier. That nothing will stop him.
I hope Im right. His extensive clips all show that strength along with comments Ive read from PSG fans

            • WitTank September 3, 2017 at 1:58 pm

It would be good to see a player with that mentality in the white shirt again. Like Aurier, Danny Rose imo has that winners state of mind and oh for a Graham Roberts.

Ron, in your opinion how did Souness compare with Mackay – just wanna see if my 13 year old scouting talents were up to scratch back then πŸ™‚

              • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 2:19 pm

I left England for Canada in 1969 and for about 10 years there was little in the way of seeing so much of Spurs as time when one we got more and more on TV and then the internet. I never stopped being a Tottenham fan and went home quite a bit and saw games but most of it at the time was from my Dads view which I respected. Souness was very early in the game so I really cant say.
I have never seen player like Mackay. It you took away Cantonas ego you would be left with an intense player like Mackay

                • caveman September 3, 2017 at 3:04 pm

Beautiful discussion Ron, can’t wait to see both of them in a Spurs shirt.

  • Kenny Powers September 3, 2017 at 12:35 pm

Have we played that badly? No. Could we/should we be more clinical. Yes. I wouldn’t start crying already. Sound just as bad as the UTD fans claiming they have won the league.

    • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:42 pm

      we could be more cynical

      • Kenny Powers September 3, 2017 at 12:43 pm

        Could we…

        • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:43 pm

          I certainly could

  • Horndog September 3, 2017 at 12:33 pm

Back to Aurier. The guy is a beast. The way he plays, with an aggressive enthusiasm, can be infectious. All, our players and opponents, will take notice. Poch has to be drooling.

    • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:36 pm

HD I mentioned last night this as well. I watched the clips (quite a lot of them) and mentioned the Mackay factor. Aurier shows the same intensity and same tackling ability and can also pass etc (Mackay did that too) What a buy!

      • Horndog September 3, 2017 at 12:37 pm

Could not agree more. Can’t wait to see him in action in our shirt.

        • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:39 pm

Based on what I saw the price we paid compared to what we received for Walker was an absolute steal.

  • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:31 pm

The players need to take responsibility to their manager for not giving enough but Poch has to take responsibility too for not motivating them either by a big stick or by inspiration.
The teacher cannot lose the classroom.
Wembley is nonsense Alonso taught us that.

  • Bert Simpkins September 3, 2017 at 12:18 pm

Don’t keep calling them ‘the arsenal’, they’re just Arsenal.

    • Harry Hotspur September 3, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Thank you for your advise which I shall duly ignore.

    • πŸ’‹ September 3, 2017 at 12:34 pm

Technically (although who cares?) that club are named after the Woolwich Arsenal, so The Boy isn’t wrong. But as i said – who cares?

    • ronwol196061 September 3, 2017 at 12:43 pm

My Dad always called them the arsenal. I kind of like the way he said it

      • Freund or Foe September 3, 2017 at 12:53 pm

This. They are the Arsenal. Normal folk like us, supporting the wrong team.

  • Harry Hotspur September 3, 2017 at 12:10 pm

    • Horndog September 3, 2017 at 12:24 pm

Dont you supposed to wear them at the back. I actually think this looks like a camel that got it wrong

          • πŸ’‹ September 3, 2017 at 12:42 pm

Well, yes, I’d wear it at the back, otherwise I’d look ridiculous.
