Pinpointing Blame [3 videos]

By The Boy -
Goal 1

Fault for goal number one lies squarely with Davinson Sanchez.

He not so much as lost his man but ignored him and ended up with his back to the play, watching the ball going past Hugo Lloris.

Shambolic stuff.

Goal 2

Goal number two was a Hugo Lloris production.

Sure, Tripps and Sanchez hung off the ball, but yet again our ‘captain’ thought it was someone else’s job to protect him, even when the threat was a yard inside his one area.

Goal 3

Goal number 3 was another fine mess.

Winks lost his man – but one has to ask, where Sanchez was – again?

Ultimately the blame for that second half no-show and eventual collapse should be pinpointed much higher.

These players looked spent during the closing stages of last season. Yet most were still competing on the final weekend of the world cup. Hence no rest or preseason. Since then the squad has also been blighted by injury, esp in the area of the pitch that most needed strengthening in the summer.

Saturday was the team’s 11th game since Nov 24, a run that has included high-intensity battles against Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter, Arsenal (twice) and Everton. During December games have been coming at a rate of every 3/4 days (Cardiff will make it 12 matches in 38 days).

If levy fails again to add anybody in this window (especially in midfield) we should expect a similar struggle from March when the business end of the season starts.

This time though the stakes are far higher. It is now abundantly clear that poch is the most coveted coach in world sport. If levy fails to bolster a knackered squad even with Man U and Madrid panting at the door poch will reasonably ask himself in what circumstances he could ever rely on enic to help the team.

We lost because of our attitude and the manner we approached the game we know when we played them Wolves we scored 3 goals and yet that game was so close either they could have got a draw or win it and they had a disallowed goal so the minum result was draw fast forward this game what makes us believe we could have won 1:0 there you can see a team who came back from 3:0 do you think will allow you to let you win 1:0 and that is where we got it wrong in my opinion the team just got carried away the last results and they thought by just showing up they intitled to win, normally speaking you should kill the games when you up 1:0 cause the other team can score any second of the game or during the injury time and that is why you have to finish when you have the chances and when a team gets back from a defeating point they normarlly more motivated than the team who had the lead, in short you can not win games by just showing up you have to work hard always and see off the games and kill it when you have the chances.

Can’t believe people are talking about central defenders, that’s one area we aren’t short in. We need an experienced quality midfielder and have done for about three seasons….

Vickers ain’t out on loan coz poch dont rate him. The 20 year old is out on loan coz poch does rate him. He rates foyth too. As you know yourself some academy players take longer to cook and may even need a change of oven sometimes. We have to think about 2 seasons time players too. If poch thinks get carters got it ill get on it with him. I never used to watch him that closely at the lamex. Too busy watching the flash players! Oh marcus! And you joshy!!

That’s what Liverpool spent on Van Dijk. He would probably be even more expensive in today’s market. There is not enough depth in that 5 for a side with too 4 aspirations (particularly the inclusion of Vickers). IMO if Tobes leaves we need an established CH; that is in addition to a new RB and LB, central midfielder and a backup striker. Not much change out of £250m there I reckon.

If CCV was rated by Poch then he wouldn’t be out on loan and we wouldn’t have signed Foyth.

Vickers might not be long term, Dier is midfield first then CB if desperate or midgame injury.
We desire DeLigt, that will take 75m for starters and probably some with Barca in frame.

We can’t rotate our midfield, which is where we lost the game.

Knowing full well of the ongoing fitness situation with both Dembele and Wanyama, nothing was done in the summer.

Winks and Sissoko are not only a makeshift midfield but also hardly able to play three matches in 5 days and maintain the requisite level of performance.

No signings wasn’t so much a shambles, more wilful negligence…

I don’t think Toby is as good when playing with snachez as he’s forced to the left side with them both right footed .

We lost control of the game in the area of the pitch where most games are won and lost, in the midfield.

A bit of shoddy defending can happen but there’s no way as the home team 1-0 up with 20 mins to go that you lose control of the game in that fashion.

Winks and Sissoko is a makeshift arrangement in the absence of THREE other potential partners for either of them, Dembele, Wanyama and Dier.

We badly needed to strengthen I’m midfield on the summer, nothing happened…

We lost because we got our tactics horribly wrong, just like most top four teams have against wolves. It’s pathetic,

Poch is gone and the players know it. We just gotta hope we
Finish top four

So Pooch says we lost because we are tired. We are not machines. It seems that Liverpool do not get so tired. Do they rotate more than us ? Our defensive formation is changed virtually every game except for Toby who is so irreplaceable we cannot even secure his contract. Our problem is our wing backs and cm and that is Trippier, Davis Sissoko and Winks. None of these are good enough to win titles with. They constantly lose possession and make defensive mistakes. A fit Dembele and Wanyama pairing with Walker and Rose as Wing backs and we would have won yesterday at a canter. Kane, Son, Eriksen, Lamela, Ali and Moura plus an additional attacking midfielder is a good balance but behind that apart from Toby and Verts and perhaps Rose we ain’t good enough

Defending is about partnerships, I’m not sold on Sanchez/Toby pairing, at the moment Foyth or Davis work better with Toby. Sanchez looks a different player when Jan is in the back with him. There must be something on the training pitch because whilst both had injuries the last 18 months it just lacks something.
But it is one loss, it’s our way to loose a silly game (WBA anyone). But with the injuries we have had esp to players who went the World Cup, hopefully this should mean they are fresher (and back fit) for the second half of the season and our pending unbeaten 2019.

The pinpointing of immediate blame for the goals is one thing but one also has to ask how Wolves were able to take over the game towards the end of the first half and all through the second. I think most of us could foresee what was coming once the midfield disappeared. It is certainly true that Sanchez, Hugo and Toby share the blame for the goals but Trippier and Davies were crap, Winks is not right for the base of the diamond, Sissoko does not have the technique to cope with a crowded midfield, and Alli gets hopelessly lost in a low tempo game. Poch has worked wonders papering over the cracks but when half the team are blundering around losing the ball or being out of position the brown stuff is eventually going to hit the fan.

Still young talented Sanchez clearly needs to eliminate susceptible errors in his game. That said should we sell Toby I would be tempted to make a tempting bid in the summer transfer window for Wolves impressive defender, Willy Boly who IMO would be a solid replacement/ addition to the squad.
