“Oh Dear, It’s F*cked”

“Oh Dear, It’s F*cked”

Gladys nailed it. Normally it’s her that’s getting nailed.

The line from the club about needing to wait for the swelling to go down (oh er missus) was probably the biggest piece of garbage they dreamt up since they decided they were going to ban the ‘Y’ word.

If the NHS adopted this approach, you could kiss goodbye to all those pesky waiting lists because about 50% of patients would be pronounced dead before they were even diagnosed.

Miraculously, in only 24 hours the boy Kane was ready to be scanned.

The truth is that Spurs had already had Kane thoroughly examined and the 6 week timeline had already been estimated.

It’s possible that Kane could target the FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea on April 22 but far more likely to aim for the Arsenal game on April 30th.

Why did Spurs flimflam the news?

The answer is straightforwardly that the injury caused an internal meltdown. The thing they really, really didn’t want to happen had finally happened and the first instinct was to ‘manage’ the situation.

Problem is, the horse has long bolted and we’re now left with flaky Son and the mystery prize that is Janssen.

The good news is that we have plenty of goals kicking around across the team. There’s also the fixtures that Kaneinho will miss. We should be grateful it’s a comparatively soft run.

Audere Est Facere? In the softly spoken words of Hunter Davies. “Oh Dear, It’s F*cked.”

Kane was lucky that when he was challenged, his foot slid on the wet pitch rather than his studs sticking to the ground. Could have been a lot worse. Should have passed anyway…..

Tell Gladys that this whole story she may have fed you is completely inaccurate; it’s utterly and totally wrong in both the timings of his scan and the interpretation of Tottenham’s advisory on awaiting the swelling to reduce. For a none athlete a same-day scan for an injury is normally sufficient to ascertain the extent of damage, however when involving an athlete who may have an involved recovery program it is advised to wait and scan after a significant reduction in immediate post-injury swelling as the specialist(s) then doing the anlaysis structural report can be more certain of the extent and remedial action required and if experienced (as they will be) able to give a more likely understanding of the progress towards repair. There are many at the club who known when and where and who conducted the scans, ‘she’ is an abject liar.

        1. Gladys exists only in your head
        2. You have no inside info at the Lane, as shown by your complete inability to call any signings, other than those that have basically already been confirmed by newspapers
        3. Nobody has confirmed 3 weeks. My source, who doesn’t claim to be ItK for Spurs but did happen to produce BBC Sport for 15 years, heard it could be as little as 3 weeks

        • PaulF March 15, 2017 at 2:38 pm

        • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 2:51 pm

Oh no, busted. And I had hoped to keep the pretence going for so much longer!

      • Mee23 March 15, 2017 at 2:42 pm

The first Scan was Tuesday. Excessive swelling and pain can limit an examination up to 48 hours after injury, hence the necessity to wait until Tuesday. The immediate goals of treating such a sprain are to decrease pain and swelling and protect ankle ligaments from further injury. the PRICE (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) treatment protocol for acute ankle injury is commonly used. The protocol includes elevating the ankle and protecting it with a compressive device. Ice is applied to the injured ankle, and the protocol advised was to rest for up to 72 hours to allow the ligaments to begin to heal. An optimistic opinion if functional treatment succeeds is closer to 3-4 weeks, 6-8 if functional treatment isn’t as successful as first diagnose suggests. Functional treatment usually consists of three phases: (1) the PRICE protocol is initiated within 24 hours of injury to minimize pain and swelling and limit the spread of injury; (2) exercises to restore motion and strength usually begin within 48 to 72 hours of injury and (3) endurance training, specific drills, and light training to improve balance beginning when the second phase is well underway. Gladys is both a fraud, a liar or a figment of someones imagination.

        • Freund or Foe March 15, 2017 at 3:13 pm

So you`ve proved you can cut & paste, Camus asked if you are a doctor? I`ll further that, are you medically trained at all?

  • Poxy March 15, 2017 at 1:59 pm

Congratulations to Leicester last night – fine win against a team 3rd (?) in the Spanish league. However, Seville’s defeat to me more evidence that the Europa is a mere plate competition compared with when we won its forerunner in 1972 and 1984. Seville have succeeded in lifting this trophy for also rans five times in about the last twelve years (due to the useful ability for finishing outside the top four most years in Spain), but during the SAME PERIOD have been in the Champions League about four times and haven’t once reached the LAST EIGHT even! This is in line with my view that it is harder to reach the last eight of the CL than to WIN the Europa, but you don’t get a trophy for the former. Like I say, there are trophies and there are trophies and there really is no point in the Europa, certainly not for a team from one of the elite leagues but, indeed, a confirmation of their mediocrity.

Been looking at some old season reviews. Its remarkable how the same old shit happens. Key injury’s, dodgy ref decisions, bottling it in key matches. I think we are trapped in a perpetual merry go round of nearlyness. Maybe that’s football. For all but a few.

    • Rich G March 15, 2017 at 1:57 pm

That’s football,98 % of teams would say similar things

    • PaulF March 15, 2017 at 2:41 pm

It’s called football and it applies to pretty much all clubs

At the start of the season you can basically write down a list of clubs in descending order of wage bills and that’ll be close to your league table. You can try to defy gravity and put it down to injuries or ‘bottle’, but the reality is it is size and quality of squad

Funny how City went from the ‘cock-up kings’ to champions when they tripled their wage billl, eh?

And yes I’m aware Leicester are the exception that proves the rule. It might happen agai. In 50 years time too

It really does beg the question as to why Kane was started against League One opposition, who were always going to be overly physical with our boys to compensate for being giving the runaround by a more skilled, robot and physically fit team.

It was obvious they were going to get stuck in early doors and now we have Kane out for god knows how long. Bravo.

    • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:59 am

Yes, my worst fears was that Kane would be ‘tackled with a message’, and it happened. Since when has catching an opponent’s standing foot between your legs and sweeping him over NOT been a serious foul?

When Kane is your only Striker and you’re at the business end of the season then yea, putting him on the bench against a League One side until 50-60 minutes when they’re tired and cannon fodder to an in form Kane I’d say thats a pretty level headed and wise idea.

  • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:51 am

If Kane is out for a while, the impact will be felt more in the cup match than the PL. I reckon we’ve got enough goals from the others to accumulate the necessary points for a top four finish, if our defence stays fit because we don’t ship goals.

I don’t think we’ve got enough to beat Cheatski without Kane at Wembley.

    • Ronwol1960-61 March 15, 2017 at 11:52 am

Our best bet is to be solid in defence and give Eriksen an injection of something

      • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:55 am

I predict we will try to rush Kane back for the semi-final and it may not work out. I’m sure he came back from a previous injury a bit early and just ghosted through the game.

      • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:55 am

My problem with that is Chelsea have players with cracking shooting from distance. Probably best in the PL.

Inject Sissoko with a rocket up his jacksie.

        • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm

But we have Hugo between the sticks, 30-35yds no problem.
          Or Vorm !

      • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:56 am

Without Kane clogging up the centre there will be room for Son and Eriksen to run diagonals as long as Alli stays deeper behind Vinny, Vinny will capitalise on deflections, parried shots, errant defence, penalties and hopefully dead balls, corners etc jeez at this rate he may well win the Golden Boot !

  • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:48 am

Absolute Proof that Lamela was receiving Ice Therapy on his injury this morning

    • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:53 am

I wouldn’t trust the Mail to report the year correctly.

  • Brizini March 15, 2017 at 11:45 am

I hope Harry boy is only out for 6 weeks. But I’ve heard that he is out for the season. God help us if he is!

  • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:41 am

I still find it interesting that Poch has discovered ‘by accident’ that Janssen could be a useful striker stand-in. He looks a decent finisher judging by his goal, his penalties and his highlights reel, so you would assume that during shooting practice at training he is slotting the goals away. And yet we were playing a League 1 club and Poch was essentially saying “You are not even up to this standard.”
Kane got taken out and now we know Janssen can finish even when given 21 mins and with the pressure on.
As H has said before, he deserved more respect than that.

  • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:39 am

Janssen missed that header because he was still in shock from scoring at last.

I’d settle for one goal per game from him willingly.

    • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:46 am

Too much has been made of the header. A header is harder to control than a shot. Kane and Alli have missed sitters before. And he’d already scored one.

  • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:34 am

    Harry Hotspur
THFC have now published ‘archive’ photos of Lamela in training THREE times.
    THREE times!!!

    Who?

    • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:52 am

Tom Baker was the best Who.

  • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:34 am

I’m no Doctor but i’d assume one would have to wait for the swelling to go down.

    • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:41 am

Correct. I was told the swelling on my knee needed to go down before a scan was possible to check for damage.

      • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:53 am

I’m glad neither of you are working in my local hospital 🤕

        • Rich G March 15, 2017 at 11:59 am

”Tis true ,if an ankle ,knee etc is very swollen scanning shows nothing of use

        • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 12:02 pm

Take it up with my GP. I ain’t a healthcare professional, that’s what I was told by the doc.

          • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 12:13 pm

The scans are for Muscle/Ligament damage, HH thinks it’s just a broken bones scan, in this case the swelling must recede to allow a precise diagnosis, and i’m not even a Doctor.

  • BobbytheBrain March 15, 2017 at 11:29 am

Personally I don’t believe the 6 week timeframe. Kane managed to walk the best part of 100m unaided after it was decided he couldn’t carry on. I’m no physio but that seems to indicate a minor strain to me. If this isn’t the case then Geoff Scott (club physio) should be sacked for not calling for a stretcher and therefore potentially aggravating the injury further. My money is on him returning for Swansea away at the latest.

    • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:32 am

I’m not sure if others agree, but it looked to me as though he calmly walked round the pitch, had a word with Poch and then appeared to start limping just as he disappeared down the tunnel. Don’t think my eyes deceived me but I’d be interested in whether anyone else feels they saw the same.

      • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:35 am

He smiled to the camera as he got up and walked towards the corner flag.

        • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:42 am

Yes, and then did you see him as he disappeared down the tunnel? Maybe re-read what I wrote.

      • Rich G March 15, 2017 at 12:01 pm

Last time he did that ankle he went off on a stretcher in obvious agony, walking half way around the pitch to go off is a world of difference

  • legover March 15, 2017 at 11:26 am

Its all about the Levy micro management and the managing of expectations. The reality is that we all knew that Kane was an injury away from potentially wrecking our season yet again. The fact the club flimflam is because every one at the club knows that we have continually failed to bring in a decent striker back up because it requires actual financial investment and this injury pointed the spotlight well and truly on this situation yet again which of course the scurrying weasel that is Levy dislikes as he prefers to schulk in the shadows like Gollum. Once again at the business end of the season we are hurtling towards groundhog day because the owners of this club simply do not have real interest in winning anything and continually fail to bring in the quality upfront that would take us to the next level. The prospect of Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Kante and Costa against the likes of Dier at the back at our favourite ground at Wembley with Janssen lumbering around upfront for us does not fill me with optimism.

    • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:46 am

Or is it poor scouting? Saints just purchased Manolo Gabbiadini from Napoli for rumoured 16 million and he hit the ground running. Six caps for Italy. So players are out there if you can find them. Saints keep finding them don’t they?

      • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:51 am

There’s scouting and then there’s buying. For all we know, we may be quite good at the scouting bit but never end up with the key targets due to the buying bit.

    • Ronwol1960-61 March 15, 2017 at 11:51 am

POchs a good manager cant he get Janssen up to speed?

      • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:55 am

We cannot simply give him a bag a speed Ron. It’s so unethical I barely know where to begin.

        • Ronwol1960-61 March 15, 2017 at 11:57 am

          Try the oral approach

  • A waddle and a fork March 15, 2017 at 11:21 am

Flaky is the word. Time for Son to step up – not sure he can take that kind of pressure though. Jannsen is not the savoir – he missed another sitter straight after scoring on the weekend.

    • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:24 am

Son will set the PL alight, Vinny is only 22 or 23, found his feet now, watch him shoot.

    • Gloster1861 March 15, 2017 at 11:36 am

      He was still in shock.

I’d settle for one goal per game from him willingly.

  • The Great White Hope March 15, 2017 at 11:21 am

Personally i think it’s a step forward that only kosher news updates are being given, for far too long snippets of info both real and fictional were being leaked to all and sundry, every news outlet had a scoop, great to have a cap on it.
Shakespeare wins the Champions League, bard night for Sevilla !

    • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:27 am

      But the update wasn’t kosher!

  • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:15 am

Another example – they will probably delay the news that we are moving to Wembley next season until the last possible moment before announcing. Why?
It isn’t building any kind of anticipation. It will create speculation in the press I suppose, but not really good speculation because the press will continue to highlight how poorly we’ve performed at Wembley and imply that it would be a stupid decision to play there next season.
So, what’s the club’s objective with the great suspense game? That any noise is good noise?

  • Ronwol1960-61 March 15, 2017 at 11:11 am

I am second from the right.100% wool donegal

  • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:11 am

If that’s true about the scan having already been done etc., I really don’t understand the decision-making at the club. What difference does it make to anything if they delay the news 24 hours and then say “Well, it’ll be about 6 weeks”? Most of us had guessed this anyway. How have they ‘managed’ the situation in any better way?

Another example is the Lamela ‘news’. I didn’t see a huge clamour for news about Lamela but they chose to give an ‘update’ with an old photo which made it all seem suspicious and perhaps a lie. Surely he is still in and around the club in training gear occasionally? It wouldn’t have been hard to take a pic of him doing some stretches and still give the same update, even if we don’t see him play in lilywhite again. Why do they try to hide stuff? – it never works anyway…

    • Ronwol1960-61 March 15, 2017 at 11:12 am

      Levy = Trump

      • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:17 am

I don’t think you’re that far off. Just a stealth mover, less vocal version.

    • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:21 am

The way the club operates reflects the panic. It’s like when you ask someone a question and they need time to construct a lie, so they repeat the question back to you.

The other trick of course is going ‘no comment’.

      • Harry Hotspur March 15, 2017 at 11:23 am

THFC have now published ‘archive’ photos of Lamela in training THREE times.

        THREE times!!!

        • Camus March 15, 2017 at 11:34 am

All very fishy and reminds me of previous occasions when Adebayor was frozen out, Bentaleb was frozen out with an ‘injury’ etc etc. This stuff does seem to happen most seasons.
