Good afternoon ladies and welcome to beginning of the build up for the North London Derby starring the Woolwich Wanderers and the Wembley Wotsits (T/A Cheesy Snacks Enfield Ltd).

Tomorrow morning will hinge upon two issues. Breakfast drinking and that man Harry Kane who has six goals in six north London derbies to his name. The unstoppable force vs the immovable fry up.

Can we do it? Actually win? Perhaps a more pertinent question for some readers of this distinguished virtual rag is, ‘how many of us will watch hoping that our appetite to be entertained will be sated?’ I’d take Sissoko reenacting his wonder strike against Newport County, thanks very much. One of the least entertaining things I’ve ever witnessed in my life.

Harry Kane netted his 100th Premier League goal at Anfield last weekend, so the England international starts as an understandable 21% favourite to open the scoring here, though Aaron Ramsey (8% chance) should be in confident mood for the visitors following his hat-trick against the Toffees.

This clash will take place at Wembley Stadium at 12:30pm on Saturday 10th February and will be broadcast live on BT Sport 1. Highlights will be shown on Match of the Day later that evening at 10:30pm.

    UPDATE ON OUR HALIBUT.
Just to change things up a bit in the room. Our good friend Tim aka Halibut provides the following re his health:
“Right now the chemo drug Carbozantinib is doing its job and is stopping the cancers from growing. The side affects are pretty ordinary but hey ho, just have to keep pushing . I have a full body CT and brain MRI next week”.

He’s a good man is our Halibut.

I have Raz’ back a bit on this one. Gentrification has valid arguments on either side of a political spectrum. Granted, he did not try – at all – to be tactful in expressing his viewpoint on the subject.
However, his post was met by a wave of name calling – things like ‘utter cunt’, ‘uninformed twit’ – followed by very little substance, but instead we get some idealistic platitudes along the lines of ‘give the man some confidence.’
This is the reason the Left is losing ground. When the Right gets nothing but ridicule, Image over substance, unrelated redirection, in response to an opinion, they are going to buckle down, keep their mouths shut, avoid the ridicule, ignore the pre-election polls, and show up at the election booth.
Gotta reply with some substance instead of giving it out in ridicule and meaningless condescending platitudes. The arguments are there. State them respectfully, and give one something to really think about.

You can fuck right off you patronising prick. Firstly you have no idea what you’re talking about or who you’re talking to. This is not just about the comments Raz made today. You tried ridiculing me in the past about my mental health condition in a similar snotty way. You then said you suffer from Bi Polar and you didn’t mean it so I gave you the benefit of the doubt . You remember OnOurWayToWembley. I was then binned to which you spent the time eloquently and creatively explaining how you were happy I was binned like the wanker you are. Also you remember how you attacked Dilly. Hypocrite of the highest order.

My views are my own, they are genuine, not to cause offence, i don’t use expletives, the Country is on it’s knees, walk down any High Street and you’ll see an Off Licence, 2 or 3 Bookies, a few Charity Shops and the usual Pound Store, small shops are disappearing every month, manufacturing jobs like snow off a ditch, working people are being made to work years more for their pension, not because they are living longer it’s because of bad financial management due to the demands of the Welfare State. This can’t continue indefinitely, it’s gone on 30 years too long to date. I have lived my life to the Mantra of Kiplings “If”, i’m far from perfect but it has seen me through a great life in Civvy Street and in the Forces. On this blog i’ve been ridiculed many times, called a liar and rode a gauntlet of abuse, hey i have a broad back but i often wonder how those keyboard warriors would have fared in the challenging situations i found myself. I believe we are all Spurs at heart, it seems strange to me that some would rather argue than support the Club and Team as a brotherhood.

      • AntSpurs February 10, 2018 at 1:06 am

Still taking pleasure in gay people being bashed up and run out of Ireland. Your views are your own but you aired it to cause offence.

        • The Man in the Middle February 10, 2018 at 1:11 am

I have never advocated Violence against Gay People, you really need to read the posts correctly, i don’t agree with public displays which are usually OTT because i believe it’s confusing to children.

          • AntSpurs February 10, 2018 at 1:17 am

You were very excited by the whole shebang. I read nothing incorrectly.

        • AntSpurs February 10, 2018 at 1:16 am

Also just so you know, there are tons of disabled people not getting the help they need. One guy I heard on LBC the other day who is wheelchair bound had his disability allowance for over 6 months as the authorities are choosing to go against clinical expert diagnosis, instead following the advice of one of their own representatives. If he didn’t have such an understanding landlord he would be homeless. Also he has to survive by eating every other day as he only has £65 a week to live on. Maybe he should be in care.

          • The Man in the Middle February 10, 2018 at 1:24 am

Of course there are many exceptions, you know that every case should be dealt with on it’s merits, why the aggressive attitude and why is what you think fact ? As a senior officer i have dealt with Gay Soldiers, sadly the Army was not geared for them at the time but clearly times are changing and they are becoming more sensitive.

            • AntSpurs February 10, 2018 at 1:30 am

I dread to think how you dealt with them.

I agree with Ant, that was incredibly patronising. If I heard some chap in the pub say that people with physical or mental issues should be in care, I’d struggle to restrict myself to “utter cunt”. Netflix has really upped the ante in the sports department in recent years and it now looks like they are set to release the best football documentary in some time.

Focusing on the success of Juventus over the past six years, ‘First Team’ looks into the philosophies, values and culture of the club and how it has translated to the players that represent it.

First Team airs on Netflix next Friday.

    VAR controversy again
    09 February
Another week, another VAR controversy. How can a system designed to simplify and enhance official calls on the field cause so much confusion and delay on a regular basis?

The latest such example came during the early stages of Friday night’s highly-anticipated Fiorentina-Juventus matchup. In the 18th minute, Marco Benassi fired a shot off of Giorgio Chiellini’s left arm. Because the legendary Italian defender was in the box, the referee correctly awarded a penalty to the hosts.

However, over the course of four minutes, with Jordan Veretout standing over the spot and Gianluigi Buffon between the pipes, hundreds of thousands of fans at the match and on tv grew ever-more confused as the referee waited to give the go-ahead to the penalty kick. It never came.

Referee Marco Guida eventually gave the VAR signal and raised his arm to indicate offside, and awarded a goal kick. Fans, players, and managers were left confused, and without an explaination.

Upon reviewing the play, the best reason for the decision people could come up with was the touch from Giovanni Simeone prior to Benassi getting the ball. The ball went off Simeone and eventually found its way to Benassi, who was in an offside position…however not before it touched Juventus’ Alex Sandro.

The question became whether Sandro meant to touch the ball or whether he did so by accident. If he meant to touch the ball, the play should have continued, eventually leading to the handball off Chiellini. However, the VAR official determined the Brazilian touched the ball accidentally, which necessitated the play being whistled dead upon Benassi touching it.

      Farce.

    • melcyid February 9, 2018 at 11:03 pm

also depends how much money was on the right result and Var is another handy tool when needed. You can also put a lot of extra pressure on the pen taker and influence that as well.I knw Kane was rattled by the delay at the dippers,I thought he was going to miss it you could see it written all over him his mind was like a pressure cooker.Keeper never saved it Kane kicked it straight at him like a magnet.Showed great courage as a leader to pick that ball up again straight after to dispell the demons.

Juventus on their way to their 11th straight win. 13 wins in 15 games. No defeats. I’m concerned.

    • gloster1861 February 9, 2018 at 9:11 pm

Serie A. Not the same is it? Slower paced. Italian clubs have struggled in European competitions with the exception of Inter under bus parker Mourinho.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? February 9, 2018 at 9:23 pm

Italian football has had a slump big time. Its coming back now. Finalists last year. Surprised how bad they were in the final.

    • East Stand February 9, 2018 at 9:13 pm

Yeah but that’s in Italy, they defend lots but if you’ve got more quality than the rest of the league those stats aren’t hard.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? February 9, 2018 at 9:15 pm

Serie A is tougher than Spain, France and maybe Germany though.

          8am? Strange time.

          • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 9:20 pm

I know, it’s an early start. The weigh in is 8-8.45am. He really wants a gold medal, two bronzes and two silvers in 4 competitions so far. The problem is because he is a big boy, he’s fighting boys that are a year or two older. Well bit so much a problem because for me the competitions are not so important but he loves it.

            • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 9:20 pm

              • DAVID February 9, 2018 at 9:25 pm

Tough for him fighting older kids, even if the weights are broadly similar.
Used to enjoy judo at school, apart from when I was getting choked out or in an arm bar!

                • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 9:30 pm

Haha. Nothing quite like the feeling of being choked out. Were you any good David ?

                  • DAVID February 9, 2018 at 9:43 pm

I was ok, no great technique but played loads of sports and did some weight training and also had part time work which involved lifting so was naturally strong and I really relied on that.

Our trainer was a guy called John Ryan who fought for the UK in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Very softly spoken and an absolute gentleman but a man mountain.
At the end of the lesson we would all line up and then one by one attempt to throw him. That was the cue for 30 schoolboys to get launched across the mat in the space of 60 seconds.

Really interesting guy, there are some bits and pieces about him on the internet.
He once went down to Cornwall and fought in the Cornish open wrestling championship. Nobody there had a clue who this stranger was, no surprise that he won the competition.

                    • DAVID February 9, 2018 at 9:58 pm

My mistake, he fought for Ireland.

                    • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 10:08 pm

Brilliant. That’s one of the great things about Judo, so many of the best chaps are gentle and unassuming. Whilst the definition of judo is ‘the gentle way’ I’ve always wondered if this means ‘done with minimum effort’ as opposed to being a ‘gentle’ sport’ as it’s anything but. So many people think it’s just about rolling around in pyjamas. My old man used to train with Neil Adams too. He used to make me larf when he’d say that Neil Adams was shit and only knew 2 throws. Taitoshi and O Goshi . My old man told me once how a karate guy came into his dojo once and started being cocky and telling everyone during the session how Judo is shit and how His karate would kick any of their arses. Well the instructor cleared the matt and asked the guy if he’s really sure about it. Well it lasted seconds 😂the guy came straight for a kick which the judo chap when underneath, arm up under the leg and dropped him so hard , he was out for the count. Brilliant sport.

                    • DAVID February 9, 2018 at 10:23 pm

Hope your boy does well tomorrow, think Judo is a good sport to get into, builds strength and confidence and also some humility.

                    • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 10:54 pm

Cheers David. The humility is kicking in now, he is really good so he likes a bit of showboating when on the mat which has stopped now. He’s a really polite boy and wouldn’t hurt a fly but an absolute animal on the mat.

First one I attended was at Highbury as a teenager. Went on my own at the last minute, never been to the place of course. Went in the wrong entrance and found myself amongst thousands of gooners. Pratt scored and Duncan. I couldn’t stop myself cheering. I survived because I think they thought I was a mental case.

      • AntSpurs February 9, 2018 at 8:32 pm

One of my first was a 0-0 at Highbury. I was 11 and in the junior gunners section with a Gazza t-shirt on. I got a bit of verbals.

Nobody can press for 90 minutes. I’d like to see an intermittent press which is secretly signalled by a one of the senior players when deemed appropriate. Bit like the hand gestures the baseball catcher gives to the pitcher so indicate what type of pitch is required. Hand gestures wouldn’t probably be any good so how about a sound. An ululation, warble, whistle? Just a thought.

Just a thought? It would need something more than just a thought.

        I thought you’d say that.

  • McG ⚽⚽ February 9, 2018 at 7:50 pm

Goons biggest weakness is their defending, so I’m not sure reverting to three CB’s and losing an attacking player will neccessarily work best for us. If Tobes is to start, then I hope we rest Sanchez. Dier’s had a decent couple of games having played shite for ages, Wanyama has looked off the pace, then pops up with that goal vs the dips, Poch got a hard decision to make there. I kinda hope it’s Dier sat on the bench tomo. Morag, no chance of starting, but great sub material, looking forward to inspecting the goods! Son, Alli, Eriksen, Kane, Moose all certs for me. With boomerang’s pace I’m also hoping Oreo for over Trips after watching him vs Sane, wasn’t pretty.

Going with the above, our bench options for tomorrow from a pick of:

Vorm, Trips, Sanchez, Rose, Dier, Sissy, Lamela, Morag, Nando’s
    Gazza, Winks, 4th, KWP

Waited all season for a fully fit squad, looks good! Just need that upgrade on Llorente…

    • gloster1861 February 9, 2018 at 8:04 pm

Playing Wanyama and Dembele at CM should permit us to play two CB’s.

The outstanding bet this W/E is Harry Kane first scorer and Spurs to win 3-1 marked up at 45/1 by Wm Hill but boosted online to 50.64/1 giving a return for a tenner of £516:40. Get on quick before they realise their mistake ! I’m on.

Over 11 corners on Bet365 is priced up at 5/4, worth an interest at £5

First player carded must be Xhaka @ 11/2, shirley worth a fiver.

If you’d followed my advice on Weds night you will be playing with £54:66 of the Bookies money.

Have been away since the events at poo-dipper-park, does anyone now if Moura is even in contention for this one? When we signed him like there was talk about him not having done much at PSG of late and being well behind but any chance of a 30 minute cameo??

    • Horndog 🇺🇸 February 9, 2018 at 6:56 pm

Rumor has it he could be in contention for a debut. If so, my guess would be as a substitute.

      • paul February 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm

Let’s hope that’ll be when we’re two up and cruising, rather than 2down and desperate, either way it’ll be around the 69th minute then. Why oh why Poch never seems to change personnel at HT is beyond me

        • SpurAndy 🍒π February 9, 2018 at 7:06 pm

I don’t think many managers change personnel at half time other than for injuries. Usually after the 60th minute I believe.

          • paul February 9, 2018 at 7:32 pm

Statistically probably true but there are times when it is very necessary (like when you’ve clearly got it wrong first half) and it’s not uncommon to see. I think it’s far more uncommon to have a manager that pretty much refuses to do it, ever, regardless of..etc

            • SpurAndy 🍒π February 9, 2018 at 7:37 pm

Unless a player is having an absolute mare most managers will just tinker with the tactics with existing starting players at least for 15 mins into the second half to see what happens I would have thought. But I’m no manager so what do I know.

              • paul February 9, 2018 at 7:46 pm

I think you’re right, that’s pretty much standard MO and exactly what Poch did at Poo but there are times more major surgery is required and i can’t think of any other EPL manager that doesn’t sometimes use this option other than El Pocho but maybe it’s because he is..so calm

      • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 7:15 pm

I’m pretty sure he will play most probably as a 65+ minute sub. Earlier if we are 3+ goals ahead by 60 minutes or if we are chasing the game by then and not looking likely to score with onfield personnel. I would not be unhappy to see him start on right in place of Dele and let Dele come on as the sub.

        • King Leer February 9, 2018 at 7:32 pm

70 minutes. There is no other time to make a sub.

          • paul February 9, 2018 at 7:35 pm

play on says you to the man with a torn hamstring?

    • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 7:10 pm

Without a doubt. My guess is ~85K

  • SpurAndy 🍒π February 9, 2018 at 6:42 pm

This match is season defining. A win means its a success irrespective of where we finish or what pots we win. I think you’ll agree a pragmatic view.

    • paul February 9, 2018 at 6:44 pm

I just want us to turn up and put in a performance that this fixture/the fans merits. Last time out was v.poor

  • Spursmyarse February 9, 2018 at 6:36 pm

Media fancy Arse,we were fancied in November and let ourselves down really badly , Poch should make them watch that game instead of talking shite.

  • paul February 9, 2018 at 6:27 pm

Think it may be too early to risk Tobe’s tendon in this so personally i would go with..

    …………………..Hugo…………………….
    Trips……………Verts…………….Davies
    ………..VIKTOR…………………….
    ………………………..MOOSE……
    ….Coco………Tintin………..Sonny
    ……………………Deli-diver………………
    …………….H.Kane esq……………….

With Moura for Coco later on (if he’s even fit).

But most importantly shitshow-ko doesn’t get a look in, Dier can warm the bench.

    • Freund or Foe February 9, 2018 at 6:30 pm

And I thought Ossie was clueless when it comes to defending.

      • paul February 9, 2018 at 6:32 pm

do give us the benefit of your tactical prowess

        • Freund or Foe February 9, 2018 at 6:34 pm

I’d have at least 2 centre backs. Revolutionary.

          • paul February 9, 2018 at 6:34 pm

            • Freund or Foe February 9, 2018 at 6:35 pm

lolz, exackly. Wouldn’t it be fun to put that out though! Seriously tho, i really don’t think we should risk Tobes and i’m so facked off with Dier this season..etc

                • Freund or Foe February 9, 2018 at 6:43 pm

Reckon we might need a bit of Sanchez speed to cope with Aubonyman

                  • paul February 9, 2018 at 6:45 pm

noted, and i think he’s ace but did look shaky as at poo. Does anyone know what sort of record MOura has on tracking back/doing his bit?

                    • Freund or Foe February 9, 2018 at 6:48 pm

Couldn’t say for sure, but I reckon he’ll need a lot of work in that department to get up to Poch speed.

                    • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 7:07 pm

    • legendary greavesy February 9, 2018 at 6:31 pm

Agree Ron, The significance of winning this game cannot be emphasised in a more season defining way

  • legendary greavesy February 9, 2018 at 6:19 pm

Against Utd we pressed and were so much more direct than all the Tippy Tappy backwards sideways b/s we were subjected to, Erikson is the key in this, his vision for our willing front runners looks to be back in the last 2 games. Also lets cut out the ridiculous passing out from Lloris to our full backs especially when the ball is played behind the player toward the by-line Vorm did it against Newport its not only amatuerist but keeps putting our defenders under instant pressure. Its a Fffffing disease our goalkeepers have picked up which needs a good dose of anti-biotics. Spurs 3 –Gooners 2

    • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 7:04 pm

Playing out of the back in most cases allows us to keep possession moreso than belting a long kick downfield which is almost always a 50/50 ball. Not just opinion, fact. I also have seen vast improvement from Lloris in his distribution over his last two games. Liverpool tried to force us to kick long to break up our possession and it worked for a short while (they played 3 up front spread across our 18 yard line) but the ploy left a big hole in the middle of the pitch which we were able to exploit. Don’t knock playing out of the back, it’s how all the top clubs in Europe play because it works.

      • caveman February 9, 2018 at 7:13 pm

Yeah but, this is Lloris we’re talking about.

      • legendary greavesy February 9, 2018 at 7:33 pm

I’m all for playing out from the back but only when your fullbacks are in a forward motion we then force the play, my point was the amount of times we have had Lloris play balls out either behind the fullback with just very poor distribution forcing the player to have to turn as hes got is back to the player who easily closes him down. Absolutely pointless

  • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 5:30 pm

    Something to be very aware of;

Aubamyang v Spurs….4 games 4 Goals, 356 minutes. And that doesn’t count this season CL offside goal which was a bit of a dicey call. This guy knows us and we have to be on our toes. He’s fast and loves to run late in the box to get on the end of balls whipped into the box. Someones got to be on him at all times.

  • Jean Victor de Silva February 9, 2018 at 5:22 pm

We cannot be naive and think that we will play the same way as we played ManU. They were not fired up in any way near as fired up as Arsenal ALWAYS are to play us. If we think it will be like the ManU game then we will soon find ourselves in trouble. We need to attack and press. No half arsed press, full on, run them into the ground press. They will also press us and try to force us to play long balls forward. We must prevent that and get on with our possession game. Quick passes, quick movement and lots of confidence. If we come out hesitant or slow they will get their confidence level up and we definitely don’t want that. Must score the first goal and then continue to press and harass them and push them back. Get them into a defensive mindset. No mistakes, focus for 96 minutes!! COYS!!

    • SpurAndy 🍒π February 9, 2018 at 5:54 pm

Nobody can press for 90 minutes. I’d like to see an intermittent press which is secretly signalled by a one of the senior players when deemed appropriate. Bit like the hand gestures the baseball catcher gives to the pitcher so indicate what type of pitch is required. Hand gestures wouldn’t probably be any good so how about a sound. An ululation, warble, whistle? Just a thought.

We really should be pumping them tomorrow. If we don’t turn up it’ll be the most frustrating moment of this godforsaken moment yet. Then again if we give them a hiding…

3-2 Spurs, their 2 based solely on the fact they looked dangerous last week.

    • gloster1861 February 9, 2018 at 5:20 pm

The thing with Arsenal is that they have been inconsistent up till now. If we score early and I reckon they’ll fold. But if they score first, they’ll catch us on the break for another.

The devil is in the detail. How are these going to be allocated? Down at the food banks, or the local job centre? I think not.

      • SeattleSpursGuy February 9, 2018 at 4:32 pm

        Full Statement:

The Club took this provision into account and set this number aside ahead of releasing additional season tickets for Wembley. Current season ticket holders are, therefore, completely unaffected by this allocation of season tickets. Residents of the Boroughs who have already purchased a season ticket for the first time during our season at Wembley are included within this number. Residents who are on our Bronze members’ waiting list who register an interest will be allocated in the order in which they appear on that list. Any season tickets remaining will be released through the usual process to those on the waiting list.

At this stage, we are asking residents to register an interest in buying a season ticket or registering for the Residents’ Ticket Scheme for matchday tickets. Residents can register for both but anyone that purchases a season ticket will be automatically removed from the match ticket process. The allocation of residents’ season tickets will take place after our usual renewal process of existing season ticket holders.

Qualifying residents will need to provide photographic proof of identification, along with a recent utility bill with matching details in person at our Ticket Office prior to any season ticket or registration for the Residents’ Ticket Scheme being confirmed.

        SEASON TICKETS

If you are a resident in the London Borough of Haringey or London Borough of Enfield, please click here to register your interest before Wednesday 28 February 2018.

The season ticket offered will be subject to availability AFTER the existing season ticket holders’ renewal period. We cannot guarantee tickets based on specific locations or price points. We shall contact you with your season ticket offer following the renewal process for existing season ticket holders.

Existing season ticket holders that reside within one of the two Boroughs WILL NOT be able to apply for an additional season ticket, though existing One Hotspur Bronze members currently living in either Borough will be given priority over new registrations.

        MATCHDAY TICKETS

If you are interested in joining our Residents’ Ticket Scheme to enjoy priority access to purchase match tickets, click here to register before Wednesday 28 February 2018.

You will be provided with the same priority window to access tickets alongside the Club’s One Hotspur members before they are placed on general sale. Tickets will be strictly limited to one per resident through this scheme.

One Hotspur members who are residents in Haringey or Enfield will not be able to apply for additional tickets through this scheme.
All tickets will be subject to availability and usual ticketing and membership terms and conditions.

Just hoping that the players keep their concentration and don’t concede a sloppy goal again. It’s one thing to lose to a better team and excellent play; entirely another to let it slip away due to careless mistakes and let the gooners get away from Wembley with undeserved and unearned points. But we’ve done it so often. Let’s hope we really are learning.

Can someone do me a favor, and give a good thumping to the next thicko pundit who whines about diving? Anyone who’s played has gone down in anticipation of being clattered, not to try to cheat, but because if your #@^$&^ foot is planted when you collide at pace, it’s a REAL easy way to get an open compound fracture of the tibia/fibia, or rip your knee ligaments to shreds.

Last time we went into a NLD thinking we were the better team I seem to recall us getting pantsed. I’m happy Toby is back, we need to go in with a mindset to snuff them out in MF and dominate the individual battles like we did vs Yanited

    • OrganicPaper February 9, 2018 at 2:16 pm

They have got stronger IMO with the new signings but they still didn’t address the issues they have at the back or in the center of the park.
Your spot on, if our approach is the same as against ManUre we will dominate them

      • Ronwol196061 February 9, 2018 at 2:27 pm

Do we stifle their attack and work off the counter ir do we attack their defensive weaknesses.
Its a catch 22. But dominating MF allows you the privilege of choice

      Watkins Folly.

£5/pint…same as rest of Wembley area.

      Opens at 10:00 I believe.

They make a bomb from us!

Come out of Wembley Park – not Central – turn right – past Mc D’s on right and opposite fuel garage.
