The Mirror say that Jose Mourinho wants United to go all out to land the boy Dier. An ‘irresistible’ bid of £60million was cited.

The threat of Manchester United wanting to poach Eric Dier is very real. So much so that in a move that even I find almost incomprehensible, our chairman has sat down with our manager and asked for his thoughts on the matter.

Glad’s understanding is that the two men agreed that Eric was a key member of the squad and will not be sold, but this has left Pochettino somewhat bewildered.

£60million is a lot of money and were the 23 year old part of significantly bigger squad some might say that would be madness not to cash in. Surely selling Dier for any amount would be wrong on so many levels?

What’s more important, far more important this window, are who are Mauricio’s targets?

The scouting mechanism at Tottenham is non existent, the revered Paul Mitchell was binned in classic Levy style and made to work out most of an utterly surreal 16 month notice period. In his stead, a pair of cheap deadbeats were introduced.

Surely Poch has targets. I refuse to believe that his brain is so useless that they previously included the pile of French junk we’ve recently had to suffer.

Can Poch really go another window without getting a player he wants?

Selling Dier might make Deli want to leave…..that’s the biggest risk in selling him

    • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2017 at 5:08 pm

At the risk of speaking out of turn – unless Dier and Delle are actually fucking each other – I couldn’t give a damn about the ‘impact’ on the rest of the little princesses.

This is a football club, not a holding hands competition.

This transfer window is starting to become a Dier one

  • Mattspurs July 11, 2017 at 3:08 pm

Poch has a fairly shaky record buying players

Keeping key players is far more important than buying new ones

Hearing the comments from his assistant Spurs will be having a 25 man squad this season

  • Pj July 11, 2017 at 2:56 pm

Selling Dier would put out the wrong message at the moment! You’d be telling other players they can go to for the right money as well! They’d also look at his wages at Utd with envy!

We’ve 50 odd matches to play this season! We need a little more depth rather than losing anyone.

    • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2017 at 3:21 pm

Selling Bonzo looks careless. Selling Bonzo and Dier would like deliberate sabotage.

  • Ray July 11, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Is Glad saying that Pochettino was bewildered that he was asked by Levy for his opinion on Dier or bewildered by what Manure are rumoured to be offering?

    • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2017 at 2:48 pm

My take was the expected Levy to just tell him that MUFC had been told to do one – not ask how he felt about the interest.

Think I’ll become an agent. Hang around the parks and look for a half decent player. Get him a haircut and tattoos and take an extortionate cut. Although I may get nicked hanging around parks. Best get some business cards made up.

the concern for poch is this player and many other signed long term deals only last year September?? this year walker & dier – next year , rose, ali , kane?

Joke! why would we even entertain them without bringing one of there starts this way – i just dont get why we would sell to a rival?

  • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Dier was asked to become a utility player and fill in either midfield or RCB. Not the easiest ask for a player. Dier is a lot better than some give him credit for.

  • JimmyGrievance July 11, 2017 at 1:14 pm

  • digiyid July 11, 2017 at 1:12 pm

A similar media game is played for Walker by City..Levy is not stupid he knows Walker will fetch a lot more if sold the last minute besides anyone remembers what Dany Rose said? His agent told him that Full Backs will make the most money in the next few seasons…Levy cant find another Walker or Rose for that matter either. Since City cant break Levys resistance they are trying to make it more attractive by throwing their young striker as a sweetener..If the boy was that good City the team finished below us would have kept him. Obviously he lacks something that Guardiola doesnt rate him. All these things are deliberate media hype by Agents are not making their projected millions at the moment. They are just looking for a domino effect.Lacazette deal they hoped to heva done that didnt make the impact they banked on so lets try something else..Levy will not fall for these cheap baits..

  • modricbigtoe July 11, 2017 at 1:11 pm

I would consider taking 60 plus Martial or Rashford for him. If not the can FO. Him leaving would unsettle Deli though. Dier is arguably the most versatile player in the Prem, he would play for his country and cb, dm and rb.

  • TomSpur July 11, 2017 at 1:10 pm

I like Dier but he is prone to a career in the Phil Jones mould i.e. neither a first choice centre back nor a first choice holding midfielder. He doesn’t have ideal mobility for the latter when it comes to the closing down side of the role, often dawdles on the ball resulting in him losing possession fairly frequently (usually in dangerous areas). More importantly, Wanyama has shown the next level at that position at Spurs. Dier’s ideal for the squad as he can come in and comfortably do a job covering for either Wanyama, Verts or Toby (even RB at a stretch), but he is not really a stand out first choice in any position in the current squad. So I understand Levy’s thinking in seeking Poch’s views on a potential sale for £60m, if that really is the figure Man Utd are talking about. The problem is it would leave us even further short of quality cover and could destabilise the dressing room (bromance with Dele for example).

    • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 1:17 pm

      • Mattspurs July 11, 2017 at 2:57 pm

Dier gets asked to play multiple positions in the same game which allows Poch huge flexibility to formation, substitutions and tactics. He was key to releasing the full backs

  • Alwaysnextweek July 11, 2017 at 1:07 pm

OK Dier was less impressive last year than the one before. Maybe that was 2nd season syndrome, maybe it was because he didn’t get regular football in a single position.

However we would probably need to buy 2 players to replace him with.

    Basically Utd can feck off.

    • Daniel Primus July 11, 2017 at 1:14 pm

or maybe its because Wanyama was a beast and couldn’t get a look in. IMO

    • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 1:14 pm

Dier may have been a fan of Yanited and Fergie as a kid, but he isn’t a child any more. I hope he realises he is in a great team, with a great manager. Whereas United are a collection of expensive misfits and their manager is just as likely to suddenly go off the rails and leave as he has done in his previous 3 jobs…

  • Sexy Beast July 11, 2017 at 1:02 pm

I would say that this is because Levy and Pooch talk about selling to buy, for me Dier is a very good centre half also plays well in a three, but he was looking very good in midfield at the back end of the season, mind you they all looked good then to be fair.

  • PhilBealOG July 11, 2017 at 1:02 pm

I would swap Dier for Martial in a heartbeat assuming there are no character issues we don’t know about. Eric has done an excellent job for us but his skills are replaceable whereas the boy Martial is something special and could become a superstar under Poch.

  • digiyid July 11, 2017 at 12:59 pm

You are not a very good businessman are you? If you know they buyer is desperate just say not for sale and that £60 mil will become £80 plus Martial at the end. Mourinho is a cheque book manager and never builds legendary teams. So he will be coming back with more:) Levy can not afford to sell though..Selling one of his first teamers sends a message out to the big boys to come and get Kane Alli and the others..Levy wont do that..His reputation is only recovering from his tag of Cant Resist Money..Spurs cant afford to sell since they cant afford to buy massively in the next 2 seasons due to the stadium situation he will not make the same mistake as Arse… Levy must keep what he has plus buy a few more potential names.

    • marsinho July 11, 2017 at 1:13 pm

apart from walker it’s mainly fringe players been shipped out but no other 1st teamers as it’s hard enough replacing’em in regards this been a very slow window and targets landed yet…….i always believed in buying before i sell.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? July 11, 2017 at 12:50 pm

Mawson is the most persistant link to us. Dier sale also getting persistant. I feel a classic levy 500% profit bonanza could be on the cards. Why even discuss it with the manager? Off you fuck utd. Next.

    • Sexy Beast July 11, 2017 at 12:52 pm

The profit on Dier doesn’t matter as we will have to spend loads to get someone anywhere near as good, so give em the middle finger 🖕

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? July 11, 2017 at 12:54 pm

Right. No talks, don’t entertain it. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

    • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 12:54 pm

The discussions probably weren’t directly about Dier. Levy would sell in a heartbeat. Its the knock on effect on Alli and others Levy wanted to know. And if course, Poch. And we hope that it was made abundantly clear that Levy would need a new manager quite soon if he sold any core player.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? July 11, 2017 at 12:56 pm

        Indeed.

Is that you Shaun? A Sump Shaun?

        • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 1:11 pm

What would these discussions have been about? If they weren’t wide ranging and not just about the player himself then neither Levy nor Poch are doing their jobs. Are they?

          • Freund or Foe July 11, 2017 at 1:21 pm

I don’t know, and neither do you. I was remarking on your insistence that Levy would sell him in a heartbeat, and your suggestion that Levy was asking Poch how this would affect Dele and the other players. This is a chairman and a manager of a football club, who according to Poch himself speak every day and share every aspect of the club.
But you must be right, Shaun.

  • Horndog July 11, 2017 at 12:47 pm

Look I am not into conspiracy theories or wild press speculation. I am into the fact that we have a great starting eleven and two or three very solid back ups. After that we are wafer thin, we have a Chairman who is business first (as he should be) but a poker player in the football world. Combine that with the upcoming season at Wembley and I am concerned. What we don’t know is what Poch knows and is he concerned? I guess time will tell.

    • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 12:50 pm

What we also fear is if Poch becomes frustrated and leaves, we will be plunged back into the merry go round of nine managers in 13 years. Plus the team will fragment.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? July 11, 2017 at 12:53 pm

That is why I used a bit if extreme terminology about spurs the other day. Things need to be met with due care and attention or we could be lookin at a plummet.

      • UnkleTaff July 11, 2017 at 12:54 pm

You can fear that all you like. I’ve seen nothing to make me think that Levy and Pochettino aren’t moving forward together as far as the club is concerned.

        • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 12:58 pm

Consider that Poch says the right noises in public because you don’t wash your dirty linen in public, unlike certain daft players.

So you won’t know what tensions exist. Until Poch leaves. So what are you basing your optimism on?

        • Horndog July 11, 2017 at 12:59 pm

You are right quite often and I respect the hell out of that. I was just expressing my how I feel, at this time. Cheers Taff.

        • Harry Hotspur July 11, 2017 at 1:04 pm

You’ll see plenty if Poch is faced with more crap players picked by Levy because they were cheap. Big season ahead. Someone should tell the chairman.

  • digiyid July 11, 2017 at 12:44 pm

Just keep saying no..Spurs dont need no money..They made £146 mil from TV revenue and Performance related payments plus sold £28 mil worth of players ie Caroll etc. Already sold Njie (£7 mil), Fazio (£2.6 mil) ,Bentaleb (£17 mil) on loan agreements making them permanent moves. THFC have more than £200 mil in their coffers thats without their own transfer budget. Man Utd are not the only club nowadays can go and poach who they want. Those days are now long gone with their old scottish scumbag. Levy said He will not sell any players unless he WANTS to..None of his First teamers are for sale..One other thing is our daft media still considering £60 mil as a huge and irresistable fee..Sell Dier for £60 and you wont buy his right boot for that money in the market next week. No top club is selling their best, no top club are buying the best yet..Only Juve made some great purchases.. All Top clubs seem to be content with keeping their best at the moment. UEFA FFP is also forcing teams to sell one good player and buy better..Look at Real Madrid trying to of load Kovacic,James before buying Mbappe..2 years ago they just would have set up the famous deck on their training ground by now.Barca are the same Trying to off load Arda and alike to buy a player,Bayern is selling Costa to finance another name..KEEP SAYING DIER IS NOT FOR SALE LEVY..You probably will end up with £60 mil Plus Martial at the end..

  • gloster1861 July 11, 2017 at 12:43 pm

Or is it more likely that we are doing very little?

  • UnkleTaff July 11, 2017 at 12:03 pm

Unlike the Mirror’s Dier-to-Man U fabrication (which contains absolutely nothing in the way of substance), their report that Wimmer wants out at least has some quotes from the player concerned:

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-defender-kevin-wimmer-wants-10770218

“Twenty-four years is exactly the age at which it is most important to play regularly and not only have to train week after week and have to sit down on the bench at the game.

“In the next few days and weeks, the main focus will certainly be placed on what is there for offers, and we will definitely look around, it’s time to look for something, where the chances of regular use are again higher.”

These comments are somewhat at variance with Pochettino’s “You come to Spurs to train” philosophy.

See ya later, Kev. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

    • Freund or Foe July 11, 2017 at 12:13 pm

      Shame, but he’s replaceable.

    • MysteriousStranger July 11, 2017 at 12:18 pm

Wimmer is entitled to give his career consideration. No issues with his comments. Shame. Vertonghen will be regressing soon enough, so it would be nice to have his understudy ready to step into his shoes for when that happens.

      • UnkleTaff July 11, 2017 at 12:20 pm

        Of course he is.

But voicing those considerations to the press?

        I think not.

        • MysteriousStranger July 11, 2017 at 1:21 pm

The problem these days is clubs leak to the press, agents leak to the press, and then players themselves talk to the press. All to get the best deal for themselves or to destabilise. It won’t stop.

    • marsinho July 11, 2017 at 12:37 pm

wimmer should’ve known before he signed up for the club he was going to play 2nd fiddle to 2 of the best CB’s in the prem but he can go and in with someone younger and hungrier…..vickers to start of with.

    • SpurAndy 🍒π July 11, 2017 at 12:40 pm

I’ve never seen much wrong with his play that a regular run of games wouldn’t help. He would seem to be the perfect understudy to Verts but can well understand at his age why he wants/needs regular playing time.

      • marsinho July 11, 2017 at 12:50 pm

he wants regular playing time well fine it’s he’s choice but where will he end up..WBA soton stoke seems the only likely destins for him and total obscurity from there on.
