Grim reading but an important one for those are so minded in the Telegraph this morning. Child abuse needs to be ended wherever it’s been able to exist by the most unforgiving terms.

How much funding is being put into this by the FA or the Premier League? My guess is ‘some loose change’.

Sir Alex Ferguson was ‘nearly’ a Spurs manager.

That’s nothing. I’ve met dozens of girls who were ‘nearly’ pregnant.

Would Slur Alex have been a success at White Hart Lane? The quick answer is ‘no, because he wouldn’t have been given the money to spend that Manchester United did.’

News just in from the Rose Tinted Spectacle Co (Enfield) Ltd., an unanticpated surge in sales has wiped out all stock. Sources suggest that the imminent return of Erik Lamela was responsible.

Looking at the comments of some fans online, Lamela who hasn’t kicked a ball in a year (one year) was one the best players we ever signed, will waltz back into the first team and we’ll do the double.

That’s a weight off my mind.

….”I think he’ll want to complete his journey at Tottenham. He’ll want to play in that new stadium and he’ll want to be part of the Tottenham team that wins the league”.
    Wins the league, when?
IMO sadly that time has come and gone – prove me wrong but ultimately a case of nearly but not quite!

I think we are fortunate to avoid any injuries during the qualifiers. If I were to advise Poch I would insist on our players only taking part in one of those friendlies against Brazil and Germany. I know they want to play, but then dogs will chase a ball until they are knackered out and then sleep for hours.

That’s also an interesting point, most workplaces would not release details of an employee found to be using, so why should football be any different?

Same way contract law doesn’t apply to football.

    • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 1:18 pm

We all know the score on that front, player wants to leave, said player plays shite. You could probably apply that to most workplaces & end up with the same result for any employee as it happens.

    • mattspurs October 12, 2017 at 1:53 pm

It’s FA policy to only reveal those using performance enhancing drugs. Recovery and education seen as more important, that said Lamela would be in fairly serious breach of contract for getting himself banned – regularly an employee could be sacked for gross misconduct. With football it’s an odd situation because by sacking a player of course you’ll get the salary off the books but also take a hit on any potential transfer fee. If it has actually happened I very much doubt that Lamela has been paid a full salary for the past year.

Look at the legal mess with Chelsea and Mutu after he got banned for drugs – spent about four years in court over who owed who what.

  • mattspurs October 12, 2017 at 12:23 pm

Surely Lamela’s return can only be a positive thing? Really he’s the only current squad player who can get near to what Eriksen provides us with. He may break down and not make it back to playing football properly but at least we’ll know for sure and be able to invest in someone to replace him.

For all the general moans about needing more players a bench of Vorm, Dier, Winks, Trippier, Lamela, Son and Lloriente looks top notch. That would leave the likes of Sissoko, Rose, NKD, Foyth, KWP and haircuts left in the stands or training hard waiting for a chance.

No excuses, no bullshit, no blaming anyone. If he can play effectively and contribute then his sabbatical will be forgotten.

            Maybe it was rehab?

Seriously though- agreed that it seems quite far fetched. That said the FA are complicit in covering up recreational drug use as they think it’s better to educate and rehabilitate.

This is wholly hypothetical but Lamela could have been genuinely injured and thought a night out on the Gack wouldn’t matter as he wouldn’t be tested as he wasn’t playing, only for testers to turn up in the gym? This may mean that the ban could have started a few months later.

      • Horndog October 12, 2017 at 12:28 pm

The point I was trying to make was related to him not publicly being an excuse maker. Seems today everyone is inclined to blame. Not aware that he has done that. If he had to look in the mirror to realize where the blame fell then so be it.

        • Horndog October 12, 2017 at 12:34 pm

It is also possible that it was forced compliance. I certainly understand your point.

        • Harry Hotspur October 12, 2017 at 12:44 pm

I take your point, but personally I can’t give any credit or indeed empathy to millionaires who go off the rails and then get straight or don’t.

The NDAs at Spurs are were modelled on the t&c’s for working for the Stazi! The only other choice Lamela had was to do what David Bentley did and go away and stay away. Forever.

          • Horndog October 12, 2017 at 1:09 pm

I am generally a hard ass, on stuff like this, but very once in a while I get a sniff, 😬, of compassion. Maybe in Lamela’s case it is because when he is on the pitch it looks like he gives a shit and puts in a shift.

            • Harry Hotspur October 12, 2017 at 1:55 pm

              He’s been putting a sniff 😊

    fergie bullet dodged

  • ronwol196061 October 12, 2017 at 11:18 am

I like Ferguson. The man is clever. He knows how to manage players and how to tacticly use them and is much more subtle than Mourinho in his on and off f the ield political strategies and no less effective. A warrier.

As far as Lamela goes. Lets see. We need another attacking midfield/winger but Lamela has to be more effective when he gets back to 100% fitness than he was before. This kid has talent
but needs to gain some strength in his head about how he does things. He was a dichotomy of sorts. Talented and tough pressing,he helped us when we we didnt have everything together but now he would have to raise the bar to keep up with what has happened at Tottenham. His decisons were not always great, often running into trouble. He needs to be sharper that way. Also on the pretty side he needs to make his talent work better for us. Eriksen has grown leaps and so can Lamela but his mind has to be behind his feet and make things count. Creating goals has to be bigger than doing a few nice flicks. He has talent.Make it count.

    • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 11:36 am

      0.34 – Lamela 2015/16
      0.40 – Eriksen 2015/16

When fit, his assist per game ratio is right up there. So far this season Eriksen’s ratio is only 0.31.

      • ronwol196061 October 12, 2017 at 11:40 am

McG Im not big on statistics. Its not because they are not relevant, they are,but they only quantify not qualify. I think you must agree that this has been Eriksens best season.he has for the most part been consistently a factor

        • ronwol196061 October 12, 2017 at 11:44 am

sorry hit the button by mistake
…..Lamela has got a lot to do now to keep up with us. Lets see. Hard assists have some meaning for sure but seeing his efficacy develop and grow is important for us. The reason I say this and dont knock Sissoko so much is that Lamela (like Eriksen) has talent but using iot to their fullest can help us win things. Its taken a lot of time for these to reach their best.Lamela now, wehen fully fit has to step up.

          • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 11:50 am

Don’t disagree with that, was just making the point he ‘s one of our creative forces. He does need to step up, and poss even has a world cup place to aim for, hope he comes good. Been rooting for Sissy too as it happens, not for him personally, just that he improves his form as that benefits us with so many injuries.

            • Harry Hotspur October 12, 2017 at 12:15 pm

Dele can’t replicate form from a few months ago. Lamela’s been out a year. Not kicked a ball. I’m struggling to see many benefits.

              • ronwol196061 October 12, 2017 at 12:23 pm

Didnt Kane get injured and come back

                • Harry Hotspur October 12, 2017 at 12:47 pm

None of those boys were out for a year.

              • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 12:38 pm

Eriksen’s form start of last season was worse than Deli’s this. He’s been a bit of a turd for sure, but I fully expect Deli back to form soon enough. He’s scored & assisted his entire career, can’t go calling the lad a fraud. A turd, a wannabe gangsta twat, fair enough!

  • molespur October 12, 2017 at 10:56 am

Lamela a player we have all been waiting to see the best from him ,will he ever impress potch and the fans for me the jury is out ,wait for the next instalment of how to have a year off get paid and have an all expenses holiday .

  • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:51 am

Important thing is getting all our options available for when things really hot up. Adding Rose and Lamela prior to winter is a big gain, as will Dembele back hopefully for the game away to Dortmund.

    • Freund or Foe October 12, 2017 at 10:53 am

If the pictures are anything to go by, Rose has already had a big gain.

      • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:55 am

        Call him the cannonball.

        • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 11:10 am

We’re third playing at Wembley & have had no Rose, Wanyama, Dembele or Lamela, Son weren’t fit to start with & Dele’s been off the boil. I think we got a lot to look fwd to!

          • Sexy Beast October 12, 2017 at 11:57 am

Exciting morning at Uni today … Inheritance tax! Yay. Of all the taxis this is the one I really don’t like. Oh yeah, I hate VAT and Income Tax, as well. And Council Tax.

I think all taxes are bad, speshly Uber – I hate Uber.

  • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 10:41 am

Fergie wouldn’t have been a success at Spurs because we wouldn’t have had the class of ’92. If you look at Spurs & Man U’s revenue circa ’88, ours was actually slightly higher than theirs. He built from there & had the good fortune of the sky/prem money for winning everything in sight. As for Lamela, certainly wasn’t in our top ever signings, but when fit season before last, was up there with our best players, 9 assists, 6 prem goals in 26.5 games. If there’s any hint of a return to that form, he’ll be straight back in me fantasy team!

    • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:45 am

I remember back then that he was only just holding on to his job in his third season, and then was saved when he won the cup. How things might have been different if he had failed and got the sack.

    • SpurAndy 🍒π October 12, 2017 at 10:45 am

Agree McG, I’ve got an appalling memory but even I can remember when he was man of the match, or close to, a few times before he was injured.

        ‘Nearly’ mom?

  • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:41 am

How long is left on Lamela’s contract? Wouldn’t it be nice if he signed an extension as a sign that he realises that he’s been able to recover from serious injury for an entire year, whilst being paid a fortune.

    • McG ⚽⚽ October 12, 2017 at 10:44 am

It would as it happens. I’m hoping now we have Foyth, along with Poch, he’ll feel a little more at home, just need Ossie to pop round Sundays for roast dinner…

    • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:38 am

Well done Cavey! If you change your diet in time, you can increase your insulin sensitivity again as you proved.

Sugar is the devil’s own. It’s an absolute killer. There is a simple and shocking correlation between sugar consumption increase and a similar rise in ‘western complaints’ such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. It isn’t fat in the diet, it’s simple carbohydrates such as sugar, but like tobacco, it’s been a hard slog against vested interests to get the truth out.

      • Freund or Foe October 12, 2017 at 10:39 am

I’m generally good on my sugar intake, it’s the salt that I can’t get enough of.

        • gloster1861 October 12, 2017 at 10:42 am

Yeah, I love salty stuff. Don’t tell Spurts though as I’m sure he’d make something of it!
