Nasty Rumour Doing The Rounds: Oliver Skipp Is A Bit Rubbish

By The Boy -

Hi, my name is Troy McClure Harry Hotspur and you may recognise me from such blogs as ‘The Academy Is A Waste Of Time’ and ‘Oh No, Not Another Bloody Awful Haircut From The Academy’.

Yet I’m genuinely bewildered by the tide of intolerance that’s been lapping against Oliver Skipp’s social media shores.

Here are some classic examples of the ignorance that did the rounds after yesterday’s game.

I’m not in the business of defending the indefensible. Yesterday wasn’t his finest hour 71 minutes.

Influence graph
Fed by Winks

Skipp’s passing accuracy was a lowly 76.5% and his best passing business was pinging the ball backwards, which he did on 14 out of 15 occasions.

Losing the ball

On the plus side, losing the ball was something Skipp didn’t;t really get involved in. His 6 occasions didn’t;t put him in the Worst Offender category.

Fighting spirit

When it came to making challenges comparatively – Skipp put a shift in.

But this is all dancing on the head of a pin.

The real question is why has been Poch been forced into playing a lad who clearly has potential, but is perhaps suffering a little from having been into the deep end?

Maybe this has something to do with not having any other options?

Oh, I’m sorry. I forget things.

When the new stadium opens, all our players will be transformed into superstars, the magic fairy dust that Levy has been busy coating every surface in the shopping centre with will transform all of us to a promised land.

Unicorns and rainbows for everyone.

Oliver Skipp is 18 years of age and developing nicely.

Stop embarrassing yourselves by digging out a decent kid, who’s still paying his dies.

Thanks in advance.

Any tasks Levy has to face in the transfer market have been made worse by himself. Levy and his scouts? What is that even?

Levy isn’t interested in football, which is why he panicked and bought Sissy yet couldn’t even get a player to replace Dembele when everyone knew he was declining two years ago!

Football wise, Levy is a cretin…

You think some of the evangelists read the entire comment? I am still getting roasted for saying Sissoko is crap. He is better than he was, but if we bought today’s Sissoko for a club record fee and paid him as the 2nd highest paid player (as he was at the time), we would be using words like “give him time”, “he just needs to settle”. As it is, he is still one of our most expensive players, and still top 5 paid players, but because he went from worst player ever bought to a useful squad addition some think he is great.

he has never been excellent in any game he has played for us. Agree its hard to crititise an 18 year old kid. but he looks really poor. Everyone kept telling me Onumah was the next big thing . he wasn’t. Skippp has been thrown in far to early . will he be good enough? who knows, maybe in a couple of years. But right now he isn’t.
playing for the first team is a different level, especially in huge games. you dont get a free pass cos you are 18.

Come on then, hands up of all the people who thought that Harry Kane at the age of 18 years old would be a first team player in a couple of years time, let alone a world class striker??? I think the boy Skipp needs a few more chances than just 9 games…

The fact there’s so much still to play for this season is clouding the scale of the task confronting levy and his scouts this summer. The number of quality additions that will be needed just to stand still is alarming when you consider what was delivered in the past two windows.
Toby will almost certainly be off, probably snapped up by another direct rival; a dominant CM in the Dembele mould remains absent, despite the appearance of Oliver Skipp; a prolific auxiliary striker/AM will be required to replace the aged Llorente; and it is surely obvious that a RB more on par with Walker now has to be found.
And if it’s true that incomings would have to be funded largely by selling CE that will mean having to land 5 Champions League quality players at bargain basement prices. A huge ask, even if there had been a good record of successfully replacing key players.

I completely agree that Skipp is only in the team due to the lack of investment by Levy and with that having been said you have to applaud Poch for developing a style of play with quick but safe passing that allows this team to punch above its weight given the talent available. However neither Winks, who is doing really well within the passing system, nor Skipp are able to provide the cover that is sorely needed in front of the central defense. That’s whey we have seen the midfield completely disappear in the games against Leicester, Wolves and Arsenal as players not suited to defensive roles find themselves being pulled all over the place and unready to link with attackers when possession is won. What I find incredible is that the endless list of summer transfer targets spewed out by the press rarely includes anyone capable of filling the most obvious hole in the current squad.

Im glad this blog turned out how it did.

Upon reading the title, as is the modern way, I was filled with outrage and took to social media to complain about and demand someone get sacked, anyone.

I should have known Harry would not let me down.

Skipp is just a little out of his depth but I see a forward passing player there. Him and Winks in a few years time will be tidy.

Saying that, I wrote Winks off a bit quick.

Lets smash Dortmund again!! COYS

It’s a bit early to be writing off Skipp. I would like to see Winks with some more incisive passing, too much sideways passing for me. Tielemans, anybody? It was reported that Levy offered him to Poch who turned him down. Perhaps, it is not always Levy’s fault, only joking!

After talking him and Amos(AWOL as I call him) as good enough and ready, Poch of course played the knackered first team on opening day onwards and ignored the kids….clearly didn’t really rate or trust them but as the farce wares on he’s had no choice. Good way to destroy a kids potential this. Anyway it don’t matter cos 4th is sorted. Target met. Bank balanced. Glory Glory.

Thought Skipp was excellent against Palace in the cup.

Think perhaps his performance was down mostly to do with his positioning and that’s down to Poch’s tactics. Feel he’s much better played centrally and that with Rose outside him much of his game was about simply dropping in when Rose bombed on. Rose looks like he’s getting back to his best and Skipp allowed him to do this.

The guy is 18 so give him a break . It case you haven’t noticed this is how Poch breaks in young players as well as how he improves players. In the beginning he only asks them to do the simple things and really get good at that and then he lets you develop further ( same with Winks ) . Skipp has potential . At the same time, I will agree he is only getting game time because we are short on options and we should sign another really quality midfielder that can play box to box , defend, pass and score goals to improve our squad.

To be fair to the boy and it’s been said. He is a young lad who shouldn’t have this pressure at such a young age. He really should be ripping it up in the PL2 not thrown in at the deep end of a ‘PL title race’ (wishful thinking I guess). This will be the make or break of him.
He will be inconsistant, he won’t rip up trees every week, but he will learn with every minute on the pitch and become more mature. If the established pros around him can help him through games, and Poch rates him enough I’m all for it. However if he is just the only option we have and are just throwing him to the wolves, until we have a better option, shame on the club.
I’m not gonna call out a boy for not being the £50m+ holding midfielder we so desperatly need.
