Shelley Pisarra, global head of research and insights, Wasserman said: “The reasons why Tottenham have invested in this approach are clear,” says Shelley Pisarra, global head of research and insights, Wasserman. “The club has taken their inspiration from American sports, where arenas are built to support and entertain fans away from the field of play, as well as on it.

“The newly proposed stadium appeals to both the football purist, who will leave their favourite pubs to take-up their seats minutes before kick-off, and new fans who will look to the new stadium as a destination, not only to watch their team, but to socialise with other fans hours before and after the game.”

Surveying 8,500 sports fans from across 141 teams, 130 venues and 20 sports in the US, Pisarra says that 56% of fans said they want stadiums to provide them with a full day out.

I’ve previously touched on concerns about the brave new world re-buildand want to get your thoughts on the above quotes above.

The first alarm bell is that we will ‘only’ have 7,000 odd potential takers for this ‘full day out experience’. I don’t know if any of you have been to a football match in the last 150 years of so, but most people don’t hang about and most people don’t spend a nickel whilst on the premises.

If only 56% of 8,500 Americans (what is this, a Loreal commercial?) I find it wholly implausible to believe that anally retentive British fans will suddenly morph into an army of long stay happy grazers.

To date THFC have sold about half of their Corporate packages. Admittedly there’s around another 18 months before the doors open, so maybe they will come.

The microbrewery sounds like a great idea, but the problem most fans experience is that they need to get the hell out of Dodge once the final whistle has blown. Our support is not typically located in Haringey.

You can gentrify and socially cleanse the borough all you want, but without the the aid of witchcraft, any football/sports stadium located in N17 is an very unlikely all day spend-a-thon experience.
