More Contemptible Anti Club Bile

By The Boy -

Any of us who have watched a blood relative on the way out of this life know that despite all best efforts, the whole business is utterly macabre.

Jimmy Greaves’ beef with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has been ‘explained’ by many over the years but Jim was far from unique, and the file of disaffected players was kept plump under Levy.

It is of note that the Tottenham Hotspur Supporter’s Trust failed he too in effecting any change in what is a rather grim ‘policy’.

Walking up from Seven Sisters before a Manchester City game I spied Graham Roberts and Micky Hazard had set themselves up on a trellis table and the pair were signing photographs for a tenner to those that recognised them. I was too embarrassed for them to approach. Heroes reduced to unlicensed street vendors. Nice.

The mere mention of Perryman’s name on the radio by a match commentator filled me with pride and confidence. Steve, who signed for us as a kid in 1969 had to wait until April of 2016 to be inducted into the THFC Hall Of Fame.

The list of former players who made the club what it was and subsequently fell out with Spurs over the most petty quarrels is bloody long.

Or long and bloody, depending upon your level of understanding.

The bottom line – no debate, no obfuscating with fairy tales – for every single disaffected legend was money.

Before the Flat Earthers metaphorically shrug their shoulders and point out that this contemptible business predates Levy, I’ll simply refer you to today’s date. It’s the sight of a helpless Jim in a wheelchair that’s provoked these thoughts.

Jimmy Greaves cut a rather grotesque sight being wheeled around The Lane yesterday. Monies recently funded by charitable donation will be spent not on a modest retirement for Jim and his wife, rather they’ll go providing careers to make his remaining days as comfortable as possible.

The good that Jim and all the others could have done for the club is difficult to even begin to imagine. Instead we have creatures like Andy Sinton lurking at the corporate doos.

Maybe I’ve been to hard on Levy. The reluctance to go about things in the right way isn’t all down to him. It’s hardwired into the club’s DNA.

Over time that ‘To Dare Is To Do’ thing has taken on a curiously Orwellian quality. Too Little Too Late, more like.
