Riyad Mahrez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could make big-money moves on transfer deadline day.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger accepts getting a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pushed through ahead of the transfer deadline was always likely to prove “complicated”.

Press Association Sport understands there is an agreement in principle between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund for the Gabon forward, who was widely reported to have travelled to London on Tuesday to finalise a potential £60million switch.

However, there is the added issue of Dortmund first seeking assurances over a replacement – which could well be Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea, themselves looking to bring in Gunners forward Olivier Giroud.

Manchester City were extremely busy on Tuesday, signing defender Aymeric Laportefrom Athletic Bilbao in a reported £57million deal before bringing in English midfielder Jack Harrison from sister club New York City.

City could also make a deadline-day transfer raid for Leicester forward Riyad Mahrez but look certain to have to stump up another club-record fee.

The Algeria international is understood to have been earmarked as a potential late target for the Premier League leaders after the blow of losing Leroy Sane to injury.

So to recap, Spurs are run by Theresa May and successful clubs with genuine ambition are run by Donald J Trump.

nah, quality of majority of our crosses is just crap, mostly overhit blind efforts going nowhere near our players or hitting the 1st defender

It’s been a problem for a really long time.

Trippier is the best we have for this job. But can’t defend.

    • Camus January 31, 2018 at 12:07 pm

Townsend crossed for Benteke to head home last night.
      Just sayin’.

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:10 pm

Townsend can cross. No doubt in that.
I remember we had Crouch and Bentley but we never seemed to play them together,or use Bentley to cross that much to Crouch

    • David Dillenberg January 31, 2018 at 12:09 pm

IMO Trppier is vulnerable both defensively and offensively.

    • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:13 pm

Not sure that’s true Kane seems to have scored quite a few from crosses in recent weeks as has Son. What we don’t do is rely on attacking players to deliver them from open play but rather leave that to the full backs.

      • Accy January 31, 2018 at 12:19 pm

How many of our fullbacks’ crosses fail dismally?

Count them in the next few matches.

        • gloster1861 January 31, 2018 at 12:29 pm

I’d say about 20 per cent go where they were aiming for. Which is pathetic.

        • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Crossing is a fairly low percentage play though – often playing into a crowded box. A great cross can still be well defended with a last ditch slide etc.
7 of our last 9 goals have come from crosses.
Davies and Trippier with 4 assists each are the joint second best in the league.

                  • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:53 pm

How many times do you see our players hit the ball sideways and to the wings and back and go nowhere?
Dembele is a strong tough player who can hold the ball and ward of tacklers biut he hits mostly short passes they dont create space.
When allowed Eriksen creates some space but he is very weak at it as he will do the easy pass than try to adjust his position to hit something more direct. He does sometimes but not enough.
Our goals come in clusters when they do when the counter is working and the pressing

                    • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:54 pm

                      It’s football, not basketball

              • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:46 pm

and Ill follow up with the fact that,we are using the counter mostly and that is different.Thats when the ball gets turned over and there is lots of space in the field for Eriksen,Son,Dele and Kane to make things happen.
Its when the counter is not on.Our build up is generally slow and we go nowhere. The odd freat play, dele or Eriksen create something inside. Generally we have been weak moving the ball up from our own play (apart from the counter working)

                • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:54 pm

AND THAT’S WHY YOU’D PLAY ERIKSEN FUCKING DEEPER! Jesus wept man.

Eriksen with Alli, Son, Moura and Kane ahead of him, Wingbacks to the side of him – Eriksen gets more ball because he’s deeper and he’s got more options.

Or you could leave Winks, Dembele, Dier or Sissoko next to Wanyama to play it sideways slowly?

                  • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:56 pm

Eriksen is too fearful to okay a CM role. We need a player to take more chances and fight more for the ball. Eriksen does AWOL for long stretches. He isnt at the centre of things most of the time. Many goals were made by Kanes work ethic fighting for every ball

                    • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 1:00 pm

I remember writing back in August that PSG would be our shopping destination due to the fact they had to balance the books after Neymar joining and they’d have to get rid of unwanted players. Actually thought we’d get Javier Pastore.

    • David Dillenberg January 31, 2018 at 12:06 pm

Pastore, who has 29 caps for Argentina, has also recently been linked to English sides such as Liverpool and Tottenham, but reportedly had his heart set on a move to Milan which has collapsed.

LUCAS MOURA has been in London since the end of last week and he has met Daniel Levy and other people at Tottenham. He didn’t want to leave Paris, he had a baby not long ago and has many close friends at PSG but he knows that he has to go ashe is not playing.

He has been forced out by PSG. At 25, Spurs realise that £25m for a player with his potential is pretty cheap.

He has shown at times that he has a lot of talent. He needs consistency and he needs a manager who can help him improve, something Unai Emery and Laurent Blanc have not been able to do at PSG.

Mauricio Pochettino may be the perfect guy for him right now. He has the pace, he has the skill but he is going to get kicked a lot. If he can cope with the aggression he will be fine.

Hopefully Llorente will see some success with Moura.
and if Eriksen is pushed up,he could score a ton of goals with a ball supplier like Moura behind

    • gus January 31, 2018 at 11:38 am

Only if Poch is willing to adapt the system to suit

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:43 am

Mourinho was big on defence and midfield. He controlled the game from those positions and allowed more freedom of thought in attack.
We need the create more from the half way line. We needed another creative player as we were light in midfield for that but Poch needs to switch some emphasis away from defence and let our midfield flow more forward. Dembele cant do that.So our DM would have to be stronger ahead of the back players and work in a bit bigger area and allow a Moura to get the ball down from the half way line to the forwards quicker

        • Accy January 31, 2018 at 11:47 am

Poch will have Moura passing sideways and backwards in no time.

          You know it’s true.

          • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:52 am

Well I hope not. Just like I believe that Poch CAN have leverage with Levy (he has to put it on the line) then great players should do what they have to do within a system to be good for the manager and what he believes. Nobody argues when he succeeds

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:45 am

Llorentes big strength is his heading. With a lack of crosses and a lack of game time it was futile.Moura playing deeper and maybe taking corners could change that

    • Still Nil Nil January 31, 2018 at 11:39 am

Moura will play in front of Eriksen

      • Still Nil Nil January 31, 2018 at 11:43 am

        Eriksen dropping to DM?

        • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 11:56 am

Indeed. Against defensive teams Eriksen often plays as one of the two CM’s.

          • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:03 pm

You cant have a DM and two CM’s and expect to have another creative player in front of you. Eriksen hasnt shown any strength to be anywhere near a CM. The only reason Poch deployed that is strictly for the counter. But our lack is bringing the ball up the field and creating. We that too slowly. Eriksen doe explode and make things happen. he can hit a great pass but if Moura played ahead of him,Eriksen is too weak in the CM
I cant see it but look Poch surprises me at times

            • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:18 pm

One DM (Dier or Wanyama) with Eriksen next to him, slightly ahead of him. Much in the same way Modric was deployed. If we revert back to a back 3 when Toby is fit it makes even more sense playing Eriksen deeper as he can hit the wingbacks with passes too.
It’s something that was done on a few occasions last season.

              • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Cant see it myself. Doesnt have the power at all. Modric I think wasnt in that position,he more or less played with us in Eriksens position and not Dembeles.

With respect Ron Modric played very fucking deep albeit in more of a standard 442 and nowhere near as attacking as Eriksen mostly plays. He plays even deeper at Real.

Eriksen has in a number of games played in the central two, especially when we were playing with a back 3 last season – point is some teams play so defensively he doesn’t need to make any tackles as they aren’t coming out of their half.

I’m not sure what you think Moura is but he’s far more similar to Son than Eriksen

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:46 am

That makes a lot of sense Matt seeing Eriksen is an excellent goalscorer

        • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 12:45 pm

How many does Eriksen score inside the box?
4 players at Spurs scored more PL goals than him last season
The season before when Lamela was fit, he outscored Eriksen

  • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:30 am

I think Moura will be an asset for us. He is creative and can push a ball forward with passing and dribbling even in traffic.Nothing wrong with that. I just dont want Poch to make him a system robot. If he allows some of our players to play using their own ingenuity we may do better. Like chaos needs control, too much control needs ideas.
Its all about balance. Moura is a step in the right direction if Poch allows his play to add to the flow.

    • gloster1861 January 31, 2018 at 11:32 am

Moura is the player that they mistakenly thought Sissoko could be turned into. Power and pace carrying the attack forward.

      • Accy January 31, 2018 at 11:33 am

Only took us 3 windows to realise

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:34 am

I didnt really see the power part but I do see the pace and the ball control

      • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:35 am

Goretzka has power,Kovacic has power,KDB has power as does Alexis. Thats all power.
But ball control and pace will def help

        • gus January 31, 2018 at 11:36 am

So if Moura is the player we thought Sissy could be, can we get rid of Sissy already??!!!??

          • ronwol196061 January 31, 2018 at 11:38 am

Moura and Sissoko of totally different style players anyway

              • gus January 31, 2018 at 11:40 am

I haven’t seen Moura yet but if he doesn’t look like a giraffe on roller skates when he’s in possession that will be a start

                  What an accurate analogy Gus!

          • gloster1861 January 31, 2018 at 11:38 am

That’s what I’m hoping. Enough of this nonsense that he brings anything to the team except boredom.

Sissoko – wanker – but had a great Euros

        +1

      • Yiddo January 31, 2018 at 11:30 am

But he’s fast, but he has potential, but he was linked with better teams, but he’s cheap, but he’s a good squad player, but he’s young, but he can learn from the best, but under Poch’s tutelage he can be amazing.
        Well said

      • mattspurs January 31, 2018 at 11:31 am

Llorente has been fucking awful for us but he scored 15 goals (with no pens or free kicks) last season so came with some pedigree. Poch’s refusal to change the system to play to his strengths is the problem (as was the problem with Janssen).
Sissoko – I’m not sure if he has any strengths to play to.

        • gloster1861 January 31, 2018 at 11:33 am

And Soldado. Bobby never got the early ball into the box he needed and his confidence was sapped.

Sanchez out Aubamayang in – they’ve still got a creaking defence, no identity.

I’d say VVD in and Coutinho out has made Liverpool much stronger comparatively.
City continue to just fill the gaps in the squad (not even the first team) with £50m imports

  • Sid Trotter January 31, 2018 at 11:08 am

I don’t think Trump knows what soccer is. Moura may have a lot of caps for Brazil, but not one of them fits anymore. Seeing as he has to shave his head to keep his footballing brains in. Like a liquid goldfish being chased by a bee called Morris

  • Legoverlasd January 31, 2018 at 10:32 am

We transition in the transfer market like we do on the pitch….lots of sideways and backwards momentum with little to no forward progression. Any owners with a shred of football ambition would have brought in any additions quickly in January so they could have been in place for the next few matches which will define our season. Utd knew this and have Sanchez in place for this evening. Yet Levy and his moronic leave it until the last minute transfer policy means we could lose out on a top four spot for the sake of saving what exactly …. we are quite frankly patheticly run as a so called football club. Looking forward to seeing Sanchez and Martial run at Trippier……

    • Accy January 31, 2018 at 10:46 am

Moura might help us. But he was surplus to requirements at PSG, rather than scouted. That said, given our track record with scouting, perhaps this is a good thing – he’ll probably work out!

The amount of business done this january is once again, underwhelming. If there was any suggestion that Llorente would be going in order to get another striker in, it should have been done and dusted a couple of weeks ago. Levy leaving it to the last day to see if Huddersfield or whoever have a spare £25m kicking around is the behaviour of a greedy moron.

We’re coming out of January knowing that this year we have more competition for the top four than perhaps we thought at the start of the season.
We are also in with a decent run in the Champions League.
If we really want to go into the new stadium with Champions League and maybe a pot then we are nt going about it in the right way.
The squad is struggling for form and injuries, it needs a shot in the arm.
Llorente was a last minute punt which hasn’t paid off.
:ucas is another punt at this stage but a good start.
They should be going in to another player to unlock defences, i.e a Zaha and a striker with purpose i.e a Dembele.
Lack of ambition and overly penny pinching as always.

Mat with Liverpool in the box seat you are probably correct but rule out Arse challenging for 4th spot at your peril. Once I recall we were 10 pts or more ahead of Arse and they clawed it back. IMO nothing is impossible until it’s mathematically impossible!

  • Kev January 31, 2018 at 9:52 am

I’m all for Levy bashing but saying Arsenal are showing genuine ambition is a bit dramatic.

They’ve sold their 3 top scorers if Giroud goes, including one of the best players in the league, since 2014/15 in one window and brought in a Man Utd flop and a player who has begged for a Madrid move for years but now no one else wants to touch.

They’ve got massive issues at GK, all across the back line and DM yet they’re going for striker they chose to not bid for in the summer to chase Lacazette, who has been average.

They are acting like us after selling Bale. Pure panic buying.

    • Still Nil Nil January 31, 2018 at 10:03 am

Despite all you point out, they still win stuff.

      • Kev January 31, 2018 at 10:13 am

That’s true buuuttt…do you think our fan base would be happy with 3 FA Cups in 4 years whilst sliding further down the league hierarchy whilst paying the highest ticket prices in Europe on average by quite some distance.

        • Still Nil Nil January 31, 2018 at 10:17 am

Spurs tickets aren’t cheap and as for sliding given the league they’re still on spurs coat tails and winning cups which spurs fans would not quibble at

    • Ronan January 31, 2018 at 10:15 am

They do have issues at the back, but I was expecting their replacements for sanchez to be far worse. It isn’t even certain now they’ll lose ozil. We keep thinking we’re leaving them for dead but they remain frustratingly alive.

    • TopOfThePochs January 31, 2018 at 10:19 am

They losing players but they’reACTING and bringing in players to fill the void. We are procrastinating when we should be increasing our grip going into the new stadium. Its this lack of ambition that will see our top players start to question their futures – as we’ve seen time and again.
Lets hope Levy has something up his sleeve… don’t hold your breath however.

      • SpurAndy 🍒π January 31, 2018 at 10:23 am

Not excusing Levy or saying they were right but the arse did very little in the transfer windows when they were building the Emptycrates.

        • TopOfThePochs January 31, 2018 at 10:31 am

Im fed up of this myth that Arsenals move the the Emirates has ANY relation t our own. It opened in 2006 – TWELVE YEARS ago.

The footballing landscape was vastly different.

          NO mega TV money.
          Less sponsorship.
          Financed differently.

Would Levy have looked at that deal after planning this build since ENIC purchased the club and thought ‘Yeah we’ll make the same mistakes’

It has been miticulously financed. He’s been penny pinching for YEARS to have money in the bank for the structuring behind the scenes. All the land bought up, NFL deal, Sponsorship, etc etc etc.
Levys not tiptop to on-field matters but he’s on the ball when it comes to investment and development. He knows his onions.

The problem is because he knows the precarious of nature of buying footballers he’s too cautions and not willing the lay money on the line for something thats not a sure thing.

          • SpurAndy 🍒π January 31, 2018 at 10:35 am

If we had Trump in charge we’d win the CL within 3 years and then be bankrupt within 5. It would be a hell of a ride.

          • Harry Hotspur January 31, 2018 at 10:36 am

Sorry, this is very close to being complete nonsense.

It has been miticulously financed. He’s been penny pinching for YEARS to have money in the bank for the structuring behind the scenes. All the land bought up, NFL deal, Sponsorship, etc etc etc.

There has been no scrimping or saving. We’re going to owe half a billion overnight. Overnight.

The problem is because he knows the precarious of nature of buying footballers he’s too cautions and not willing the lay money on the line for something thats not a sure thing.

Then he should fuck off and set up an estate agency a long way away from N17 and let someone who knows what they’re doing have a go.

THFC Property Ltd bought the land.

The NFL deal was a fuck job, two games a season won’t cover the costs associated with the retractable pitch etc in your lifetime.

            Sponsorship is something EVERYONE gets.

            • TopOfThePochs January 31, 2018 at 10:45 am

I’m not saying we won’t be in debt H, what I’m saying that to suggest that the stadium build is going to be exactly like the Emirates is nonsense. Its another ‘narrative’ set by the media to take the gloss off of it.

Getting off the pot is exactly what he needs to do. He clearly isn’t going to invest in the team to the level required, if he’s ever going to do it it should be now.
Otherwise it’ll be the carrot on the end of a string routine – we will when the stadiums paid off.
And OFF is where our best players will be.

              • Harry Hotspur January 31, 2018 at 10:53 am

                The situation is actually worse.

When they build the TV money was less and they didn’t, so didn’t win anything.

Our build has al the TV money and we won’t be spending either…

    • Harry Hotspur January 31, 2018 at 10:27 am

      Panic buying?

Take your Spurs tinted glasses off. Next you’ll be sneering at them winning the occasional FA cup…

    ITK NEWS

On the last day of the 2018 January transfer window, hot news just off the press.

Haringey Borough have sold Nilly to another club for a world record fee of £1.83 and a button in a scoop that will shock the world.

The team he has been transferred to have wished to remain anonymous at this stage but it thought to be a club that is well known throughout the globe.

The scoop is that although the transfer went through 2 days ago, Nilly has been loaned back to Haringey until March 4th making him eligible for any matches played by his haringey team until then; including tonight’s must win match versus Manchester constabulary.

So Nilly has been drafted in as a late replacement for somebody who couldn’t be arsed to play and so takes up his usual position in the midfield area of Rutherford Way junction with Wembley Way by the pedestrian lights in his holding role securing the defence of foot traffic safely up to the stadium.

This has come as a complete surprise to all and sundrie and gives all fans (and those not so keen on his abilities) to have their chance to say a goodbye to Nilly in one of his last few appearances in the colours of Haringey Borough.

Any supporters of this stalwart wishing to pay tribute personally to Nilly are welcome to say hello and for a nominal RonWol Corporation fee of just $19.99 Nilly will sign any autographs or allow you to take a cheeky pic of you wearing his hat standing by his vehicle for posterity sakes.

Nilly said in an interview recently “Although its been a roller coaster in my 2 stints at the club in my long in-distinguished time there, with many ups and downs, the time has come to move on in my career and tell Haringey to kindly fuck off, the cunts. I’m looking forward to my new challenge at a club that will respect me and pay me the rate at which I believe I’m worth. Technically I’m paid the same rate as it goes but with extra game time, my bonuses in overtime escalate my wage and will allow me to earn something like I’m worth, although still below a decent living wage for my efforts, but at least at my new club I’ll be treated with a bit more respect. Or probably not. But it’s not haringey so fuck them. I’ll miss the fans who have in the main been less than supportive, often putting the boot in when they can bless them, but I need a new challenge and the club I’m going to has world class facilities and no cheese room thank fuck”. Nilly’s current boss was asked for comment on this transfer news but too busy getting pissed up on the joys of seeing the back of Nilly and refused to comment.

One of Nillys last matches is tonight at Wembley so anybody passing by willing to give Nilly abuse is more than welcome to pay their respects in person.

    If they can be arsed.

He’s unsellable. The Spurs Fairy’s magic wand strikes again. Peter Crouch is probably more attractive at this stage.
