Mauricio Pochettino tool Sky Sports precisely what the Flat Earthers wanted to hear. “Against a very good team like Juventus we dominated – overall in the two games we were much better – but at this level in three minutes the tie went for Juventus.”

If Poch was describing the sinking of the Titanic, he’d give you an hour and half of prefacing remarks outlining how good the ship was mechanically whilst describing the splendour of the interior.

This is the same garbage being peddled after the cup final loss to Chelsea where we won the game on possession stats. No mention of them scoring twice as many goals as us.

The closest this cretin got to straight talking was fantasising about a different result. “It was unlucky, because if Harry scores at the end, and the chances we had at the first half, maybe we are talking in a different way, but that is football and it’s about the result.”

No mention of his managerial and tactical inadequacy.

Poch also went on to boast that there was no lack of experience or concentration from Spurs. Which only serves to further emphasise how inadequate the Argentine is. Then this is Poch who is taking care to talk to a very specific element of the support.

The naivety of a team comes from the manager. Not the terraces or the coach driver. For the fits half the plan was clearly to get a goal. After Son scored there was a distinct outbreak of general gormless-ness which saw no tactical response to conceding their first goal.

It didn’t take the Italians long top see the how wide the door was left open and within minutes the second goal flew in.

So it took 2 goals to shake Poch up. Except it didn’t Hair Dye Man waited and waited and then on the 74th minute swapped the mentally and physically pedestrian Eric Dier for the implausibly lightweight Erik Lamela.

Most baffling of all was then waiting until the 86th minute to hook the dreadful waste of flesh that is Dele Alli. More of him in the player analysis.

The introduction of Llorente was Jol-esque in it’s utter irrelevance. Mat as well have sent me on. I’d only had 5 pints and a pair of large gold watches at that stage.

Spurs wandered around like Japanese tourists who got off the tube at the wrong station and instead of pottering about taking photos of Big Ben by night, they found themselves wandering up Coldharbour Lane waiting to have their watches, wallets and cameras snatched.

Wastefulness played a part, as did a truly dull offering in the creative stakes from our midfield. Pinning the blame on someone, anyone isn’t usually a particularly honest or helpful exercise. However in this instance, Poichettino needs to stop mumbling about Juve’s few minutes of madness as if somehow he’d nipped out for a sandwich during that bit.

Mauricio has significant form for being sluggish with substitutions, but a greater concern is is his lack of mental agility generally. On an upbeat note, at least we’ll be spared the ‘Best Young Coach In Europe’ twaddle for a while. Not for long, but a while at least.

I don’t know how long you have lived in NZ sniper but we are home to the All Blacks, the most successful storied rugby union team in the world. And yet for 24 years we failed to win the rugby world cup, losing in all manner of ways despite being favourites almost every time. The point I’m trying to make is that despite being the best team there are still no guarantees and even the best teams get outsmarted or outplayed. In 2007 we lost to the French in the QF after they played certain tactics and we couldn’t adapt (along with a little help from the ref 😠). It sounds like it should be easy but when the slide starts it is very difficult in a sport with no time outs or long breaks to get together and make tactical changes on the fly

    • Sniper March 8, 2018 at 9:55 pm

It was at the start of my 17 years here that I noted the tendency to blame the coach when you lose. They hire and fire them in NZ at the drop of a hat!

I have always been left bemused that a coach never crosses the touchline to commit a stupid foul, miss the run of an approaching player nor perpetrate a “schoolboy” error causing a loss, yet the clamour to hold them to account never fails.

      • Gus March 8, 2018 at 11:32 pm

If you watch docos about the ABs, in particular Weight of a Nation they talk about how easy it is to let the game slip away, and these guys are world’s best players. They have a full time sports psychologist or used to anyway. They needed to condition their minds to focus in the biggest moments

Those fuckers should have learnt from the last 2 seasons and a repeat of the battle of the bridge or some such shit would be proof that this lot havent got the brains to ever win us the league. 2 title challenges these boys have had now, they cant keep reeling out the we are learning when it comes to this seasons league game at the bridge

  • Scrappy do March 8, 2018 at 8:13 pm

I look forward to these posts as a real world analysis instead of all the pundits putting some magical spin on what actually happened. When I heard poch state we dominated and had won all but a few minutes of the match I about fell over. How delusional does one have to be to state how happy they were with a performance that eliminated them from the competition? Last word…this project will be squat if no hardware finds it’s way to the trophy case.

    • Sniper March 8, 2018 at 8:17 pm

I long for the day when footballers can identified changes in oppos tactics, before and after substitutions and agree amongst themselves what to do about it. Then effect changes to their own setup to counter the new threat. All without the manager needing to be involved. Its a novel approach I know but something that I think could have some merit.

Another feature of the modern era. Punters on telly carrying out our transfer business and deciding what’s best for the players.

I get a bit tired of it. Bacon chops’ son giving his two pence worth on the choices of top rated coaches, Carragher and Neville throwing in their massively qualified opinions on all things in football. I try to avoid it all.

      • Sexy Beast March 8, 2018 at 7:51 pm

          Come on Sexy tell us.

  • Sniper March 8, 2018 at 7:40 pm

Why, in this era, do we simply blame the Manager/Coach? Our incumbent has a better overall record statistically than anyone previously at our club. (I call it a club, but it’s a corporate headquarters now named Lilywhite House with a stadium attached).

There’s a modern syndrome in football from which I think we suffer, which is called “over-coaching.” Our coach has established a system involving a formation and a pattern of play (as his “project”) and it seems that the players are completely devoid of any initiative or nous to actually change the system as games evolve.

So, we can ‘blame’ the coach for the system, but it is the lack of players who can lead the other players, properly understand the mechanics of changes to the system and adapt the patterns of play accordingly that is the real issue.

I’ve read so many comments here that we wouldn’t have conceded this or that goal if Toby had been playing. They may have a point. Maybe, but I’m not sure Toby actually has that influence to manage the current team on the field and adapt our system as the game evolves.

I am also bemused that we seem to regard top four finishes and CL qualification as if it is some kind of pseudo trophy. It smacks of accepting the corporate approach of the modern game to me! The reality is that we were never going to win the CL, a quarter final berth would have been a realistic achievement and we failed marginally and that is what disappoints most.

We need winners, on the pitch, leaders, intelligent footballers. That would make up for deficiencies in our coach, the system he has imposed and his apparent lack of willingness to effectively change his system to an alternative, as required and ‘on the hoof.’

I am happy we have a good coach and I am happy with his statistical performance. But the game is about glory, to coin a phrase. And I want trophies, big shiny silver ones with handles and bases that come off. That and to really feel we are one of the top eight or so teams in Europe (at least), which we are nowhere near at present.

Whether we can get there with our present corporate model, I wonder. But that’s another story.

    • Sexy Beast March 8, 2018 at 7:49 pm

Can’t agree with that bit about not being in one of the best 8 teams in Europe, we topped the toughest groupe beat the champions along the way and we were very unlucky to draw the second best team in last years comp and lost by one goal over two games. Watch the video above and listen to Graig Bellamy.

      • Sniper March 8, 2018 at 7:59 pm

At your behest, I have it on in the background. Bellamy is simply stating the bleeding obvious and not saying anything we haven’t debated here.

Who is Bellamy that we need to take note of his opinion anyway? Average player. Not the fizziest drink in the fridge. I’d be more interested to hear what the likes of Hoddle might have to say.

Costa didn’t do much second half when we conceded the goals. It was Lichsteiner. And he hit his cross from fairly deep. It was Dybala’s brilliant header which cut us open.

“Costa didn’t do much second half when we conceded the goals.”

He must have eaten a dodgy half-time sandwich or something as there’s no way the tactically inept Pochettino would have highlighted him as a threat and taken steps to deal with it. No way at all.

Header from Kheidra. Didn’t do anything else useful in the two matches but knew that Higuan was likely to be in the space where he flicked it on. Dier didn’t follow Higuan when he was alongside him outside the box.

This Leeds fan explained it to me.
Juve have experience in seizing the moment like Roger Federer has.
You’re in the set 2-2; 3-3. Then he ups his game, breaks your serve and closes
out the set. He doesn’t need to be at his peak all the way in the set.

He knows that a time will come, his opportunity. He raises his intensity
and does the job. Same for Juve.

Juve also knew about 55 minutes that we needed a kicking to unsettle the rhythm of the game. Cards taken and pattern disturbed. Winning mentality.

  • AntSpurs March 8, 2018 at 6:19 pm

Not sure what Gary FA Cup Lineker was on about, suggesting that a more clinical goalscoring minded Dele might have taken a better position to stick in the rebound from Kane’s header over Lamela. What if it hit the middle/the outside or not so much of the inside post. Seems like he had more angles covered to me. Also I’ve heard people saying Lamela was prancing around at the post – it’s a good idea to do so as you need to react quickly as the ball rebounds. Anyways for further trainings at AntSpurs world class training facility, £199.50 per session. Meal bar and disco included.

    • AntSpurs March 8, 2018 at 6:27 pm

Also as much as we can’t consider ourselves unlucky for missing those chances, they were bloody lucky that we didn’t have our finishing boots. Great player and great respect for Chiellini but his words about knowing for sure is bullshit. Yes they are confident, wise and experienced and all that jazz but they could have suffered tonkin. If they were relying on the history of Spurs being poor finishers, then luck is playing a large part as we had really good chances to put the game to bed as we have done so against Liverpool,Madrid, Dortmund etc.

A lot of b0ll0cks had been discussed about last’s night’s game but the most important stat was, we created more chances and had more shots at goal than Juve did but still lost.

Some will not like to hear this but Hiquain was the difference. He is a better striker than Kane who usually need 6-10 chances yo score one goal which is not good enough at this level.

    • SpursGoliath March 8, 2018 at 6:03 pm

He’s going through an iffy patch not helped by Alli looking terrified of taking on a chance and easing the burden. That leaves Eriksen from range or Son as the only two other ‘regular ‘sources of goals.

    • Freund or Foe March 8, 2018 at 6:15 pm

Our defensive formation is unquestionably weaker than what it was last season. Walker and a fit Rose are streets better than Trippier and Davies. Verts and Toby is our best CL combo. If that back four had played last night we would not have shipped goals like we did in those “3” mins in the second half. At the highest levels the likes of Dier,Trippier and Rose and an inexperienced Sanchez have all got the ability to make costly errors and we have seen this several times already this season. I also wonder if Toby is as crocked as we are led to believe. I fear this is the Walker senario and the fact that the club have decided he is leaving and therefore now not in Poochs plans. If that is the case then that is a shockingly poor decision. Poochs subs last night were to late and to little and let’s not forget our only purchase in January purchased to strengthen our run in for the rest of the season a player who is creative and has played at the highest levels of the game was left on the bench and Pooch only used two of his three subs. He stood motionless and unanimated throughout the second half whilst the Juve coach was fired up and shouting out instructions throughout the match. He has his assistant alongside at certain times. Pooch never seems to have any of his assistants alongside him on the touch line maybe he has a clause in his contract that says no one steals his limelight on the touch line whilst he pLays his enigmatic arms folded frowning tactical genius character he loves portraying like some character in a foreign art film..

Higuain is Juve’s biggest earner on 130k per week. Buffon earns 20k less than Hugo per week, Dybala earns about 10k less than the poverty stricken Danny Rose.

  • Kev March 8, 2018 at 4:56 pm

He didn’t even pick the right team for me. We needed more pace to push them back and Rose and Wanyama should’ve been in there in place of Davies and Dele. Push Dier to the back 3.

Lamela on before Lucas made no sense. You need a player to stretch the pitch not someone who would cut inside the whole time.

    • Freund or Foe March 8, 2018 at 4:58 pm

If all else fails, blame pace. The only space I saw to run into was between the sidelines and the crowd.

Costa didn’t do much second half when we conceded the goals. It was Lichsteiner. And he hit his cross from fairly deep. It was Dybala’s brilliant header which cut us open.

    • gloster1861 March 8, 2018 at 5:02 pm

Once they took the lead they went deep and compact.

Poch did make a mistake. As soon as Juve retreated, he ought to have slung Llorente on in the 75th minute, as we couldn’t pass through them.

  • Bruxie March 8, 2018 at 4:25 pm

It seems that every day over the past 10 years we have been no hopers.
On this blog and in every Spurs fan’s mind we have been Spurs.
    Not champions. Not cup winners.
We have been merely top four candidates. Nothing more. Sometimes less.
My expectations last night were that we could possibly go through. We didn’t.

So why the knee jerk criticism of Poch and the reaction to a freak three minutes?
It wasn’t a surprise! It was what everyone on here, including TBH, has been predicting for yonks. We’re not good enough. Yet?

The word “yet” doesn’t come into it. But the word “until” is more relevant. Until we are bought by a football savvy equivalent of Enic.

No manager in the world could have reacted quickly enough after their first goal to prevent the second.

The reasons for not going through are myriad. We still don’t have the infrastructure of a title winning side.
And we don’t have that bullish arrogance that comes with winning titles to carry over to other elite competitions.

We already have fans shouting for Poch’s head even though we do not have the transfer funds to satisfy any managerial upgrade. And yes it comes down to Enic, Lewis and obviously the carpetbagger Levy.

Would we have won in extra time had Kane’s post hitting header gone in?

Who the fuck knows…least of all any of us on this blog.

    • Caspurs♿️ March 8, 2018 at 4:35 pm

May I make an uneducated guess?

      • Bruxie March 8, 2018 at 4:37 pm

        • Caspurs♿️ March 8, 2018 at 4:39 pm

We’d have lost on penalties, because Lloris has small dainty hands compared to Buffon.

    • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 4:37 pm

With respect Brux, I’ve not seen a single person call for his head on here.

The criticism of Poch is however well earned. Daily I have listen too wishful garbage about how young and successful and sought after he is. It’s all bollocks.

He’s won nothing, his hands are tied and even if they were untied, managers who dick about with their subs and their strategies don’t tend to do well.

We had some graph or other on here a few weeks back that analysed PL subs and Spurs were the least successful and took the longest to come on in the entire league.

Saints fans told us he has no plan B and ain’t that true.

Does Poch need to go? Of course not.
Does he indemnified from criticism? Am equally big no.

It wasn’t a freak 3 minutes. There weren’t dinosaurs running over the pitch or a sleet storm. We kept a high line and Juve drove a truck through it.

      • Bruxie March 8, 2018 at 4:47 pm

I didn’t say anyone on here had called for his head.
There was an idiot on a phone in on BBC last night…
And others in the bigger world.

It was a freak three minutes. And if you include our start in Turin, another freak period. And not commensurate with our defensive performances in Poch’s time at the club…or anyone else’s for that matter.

        Trucks on pitches are freakish.

        • gloster1861 March 8, 2018 at 4:58 pm

    • Urbane Sturgeon March 8, 2018 at 4:37 pm

Oops, re below, forgot Kane’s nearly goal would only have added half an hour, not won it. Surely our fans’ extreme response reflect the scale of our expectations & disappointment; an indirect sign of creeping success.

    • ronwol196061🇨🇦 March 8, 2018 at 5:20 pm

For me Bruxie I though the boys and Pochs system had a glorious 60 minutes.
But it was a 90 minute game
I feel Poch either cant think on his feet or he is not quite there but he did little to give me confidence in his tactical nous.
Creating a plan is good, getting his players to play it is great…but unless you can adapt to situations as they arise you cant be truly great

  • Urbane Sturgeon March 8, 2018 at 4:16 pm

Regarding Potch’s lack of response; I remember in the first match that after we went 2 down from quick goals, I felt that we were being over-ran and out thought, so eagerly watched for some sort of clever change which didn’t come, and I also wondered when Potch would remove the yellow carded liability Aurier before he got himself removed; neither happened, we steadied, played our game, and applied pressure until ……… well we know what happened. I marveled at our calm & patience.

Last night after Juve’s 2 smash & grab goals, Potch allowed the team to continue applying pressure, which they did, and toward the end of the match Kane got to within a gnat’s bum hair of winning it. That tiny margin of outcome is the difference between two hugely differing post match discussions.

Point being: 1st game, carried on without panic – heroes. 2nd game, carried on without panic – useless tossers. I still don’t buy the ‘we were the better side’ talk. We boxed clever, but were ultimately knocked out cold by an older, wilier, street fighter – i.e. a better team.

Our Plan A Vs Juve’s Plan A reaped rewards in Turin. Juve learned their lesson from the 1st leg and came with Plan B and then Plan C in the 2nd half. We couldn’t adapt i.e. no Plan B and got stuffed. Juve forced us to play long balls by pushing up on Loris and the fullbacks which resulted in a midfield dogfight. In the 1st leg Dembele was going deep to take the ball from Lloris, shrugging of defenders and setting up attacks. Last night Juve did a job on him. This was no ‘3 minutes of madness’ that did for us. Juve had done their homework and found a way.

    • Urbane Sturgeon March 8, 2018 at 4:19 pm

Ridiculous comments tbh. Simply we don’t have the experience to defend in big games, when typical UCL finalists Juventus do. Nothing to complain about. We played brilliantly against a top 5 in Europe team and lost by 1 goal. Be proud to support Tottenham instead of this constant whining.

I said it before and i’ll say it again, if we don’t get CL for next season i estimate the probability of multiple key player loss at around 70%. I don’t care if you disagree and no it doesn’t make me a disloyal Spurs fan to have this OPINION

Paul, fear and imagination are part of the same brain circuitry.

I don’t think the club would be able to stop it if it came to that but it is a big IF and let’s hope it doesn’t. FA cup and top 4 would be a very welcome pair of bulwarks against it.

How many times have we been the better team and lost, dominated possession and lost. There’s only so many times within the cycle of a players career/team’s time together that key personnel will stand for this (never mind us muppets). PlayitagainSamways summed it up perfectly on an earlier blog; ‘We need to win the FA cup just to change the narrative about Spurs’.

    • paul March 8, 2018 at 3:17 pm

Coz like it or not that narrative for the last twenty years is one of being the nearly men, the bottlers, being spursy, ultimately not winning and so on. It’s become a toxic narrative that i thought we had some distance on but after last night (and whether you think we choked last night or not doesn’t now matter) that bandwagon is back on the move and we desperately need to stop it dead in its tracks. We need to win something and quick.

        • paul March 8, 2018 at 3:26 pm

Dan i think we are better than that these days, i’m not worried about a decent overall showing in the league where El Pocho has time to correct his mistakes over the course of a season, i’m talking about these defining single crunch matches that we always somehow find a way to lose, always, every time, without fail, no room for interpretation every single fucking time

          • Dan March 8, 2018 at 3:36 pm

I’m probably getting caught up in the “we are shite” right now , but I truly believed we would finish second two years ago and some how we found a way to fuck that up . Top 4 isn’t going to be easy

      • SpurAndy 🍒π March 8, 2018 at 4:29 pm

We weren’t Spursy when we beat Real and Dortmond. When Citeh or Chelski or Manure get knocked out of the CL are they Spursy? We lost a game against a top team. That’s not being Spursy in my book. Being Spursy is losing to someone like Rochdale, that’s Spursy.

    • Dan March 8, 2018 at 3:18 pm

Total agree , you can’t keep saying we were the better team it means fuxk all . At some point you have to change the culture and phycology of the team , this only re enforces that no matter how with play we will ultimately lose

    • Freund or Foe March 8, 2018 at 3:24 pm

Even if we win the FUckup Paul, there’ll be a new narrative, just like there is with Arse, Manure, Pooh, Cheats etc. Please prepare yourself for a lifetime of narrativenessness, it does not stop.

          • paul March 8, 2018 at 3:32 pm

I’m a bit blocked up myself, only so much come out via my fingers and through the keyboard onto here. I think it was the whisky last night. I don’t do well with spirits.

    • Urbane Sturgeon March 8, 2018 at 3:25 pm

My view of our chances in the cup have, rightly or wrongly, been swung by this result. I feel as though the players’ attitude against chelski or manure – should we meet them – will have a mental edge and intensity we sometimes lack. Could be very wrong of course, just a feeling.

      Go on the Angry Mob!

      • Freund or Foe March 8, 2018 at 3:26 pm

        Grrrr.

  • YidInExile March 8, 2018 at 3:08 pm

    No more excuses please

    We got what we deserved

Our defense was mediocre for both games, to concede 4 goals from the chances they had is a joke, badly managed by Poch defensivly, leaderless when it mattered

We could all feel it before the game, Chiellini said it best, we know it for a fact, they knew it too.

    We are big game chokers

    • Urbane Sturgeon March 8, 2018 at 3:14 pm

Every year, all around the world, every cup competition ends with chokers strewn about the place.

      • UnkleTaff March 8, 2018 at 3:15 pm

Yup. In every competition in every sport throughout the world every team bar one ultimately chokes.

        • YidInExile March 8, 2018 at 3:22 pm

No one chokes quite like us though

          Losing is not choking

For example, Juve lost last years final to a much better team that outplayed them

Yesterdsy, we just unravelled in 3 minutes because we have no composure, thst is choking

Just like the battle of the fridge 2 years ago, and i can go on

          • paul March 8, 2018 at 3:24 pm

            Quite

  • Nick March 8, 2018 at 2:54 pm

Good quote from old saggy chops
Everyone is always ready to jump on the bandwagon, but what could Pochettino do? He’s stood there and Tottenham are completely dominating the game,” he said.

“They went 1-0 up and were in complete control, Juventus were hanging on dear life. Suddenly in three minutes, you don’t know how it’s happened, but it’s happened.

“I’m sure the Juventus manager couldn’t see it coming either. When you’re losing like that you have to make changes. They have used that system for years at Juve to great success, but it wasn’t working for them last night. They were getting overrun, but suddenly you get a couple of breaks and the game has gone your way.

“I just think it was one of those things. Pochettino was stood there, his team were in control, Pochettino hasn’t got to change anything, everything is going their way. The goals changed the game completely. It’s no different to the first leg – Juventus were 2-0 up and Tottenham came back. Did Allegri get out-coached by Pochettino there?”

    • paul March 8, 2018 at 2:59 pm

Nick this is actually a clear case of Harry hoisting himself with his own petard. He couldn’t/can’t see it so it’s just one of those things?

      • DAVID March 8, 2018 at 3:03 pm

Poch should have told them to ” Run a baht a bit “

    • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 3:03 pm

A good quote? We didn’t dominate anything. He’s a fucking imbecile.

      • paul March 8, 2018 at 3:06 pm

As far as he’s concerned ‘finesse’ is a desert the wife picks up from Iceland

  • Dan March 8, 2018 at 2:48 pm

Second half I was hoping poch would have gone back to the formation we used against RM with 5 at the back and shut up shop, dier should have came off then .
Poch has to be assertive with his game management against the bigger teams and his formation and player selection against weaker teams .

  • paul March 8, 2018 at 2:47 pm

Only so many times you can lead a horse to water and promise it a drink

    • paul March 8, 2018 at 2:49 pm

Next season Shitty, Manure and Pooh will all have strengthened, will all be better. Wonder what mini-me and the Poch know that we don’t

you keep your hairy old chestnuts to yerself mate ;’)

  • TriniSpurs March 8, 2018 at 2:45 pm

I’m a fan of Poch but it continues to confuffle why the extra late subs (85 min). Evenso, if you are binging on Llorente then surely the instruction should be to heave the crosses into the box but that didn’t happen either.

    • Aussie in Switzerland March 8, 2018 at 3:04 pm

As soon as they scored their second, a tripple change, Moura, Wanyama and Llorente, for Dele, Dier and Son, yes, fucking Son……. he could have been bold, not like we had anything to lose

  • Oh Danny boy March 8, 2018 at 2:43 pm

    Savage .

  • Nick March 8, 2018 at 2:41 pm

So you’d prefer who in charge ? Saggy chops? Tim nice but dim ? Who have we had anywhere near as good in the last 30 years ? If your going to throw mourinho or pep into the equation you would have to sell the club to a oil sheik 1st as they can’t achieve anything without 100s of millions in transfers. We failed because we didn’t take our chances

    • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 2:42 pm

      Is that aimed at me?

Where did I suggest we sack him?

      • Nick March 8, 2018 at 2:47 pm

Not aimed at you H but who out there is better at the minute? Which other team has “achieved” what we have over last three years with the injuries & lack of real investment

        • Dan March 8, 2018 at 2:54 pm

There is no one better that would work under these conditions , i think we are lucky to have him . It’s all bolloxs really talking about all this as we all know the tight ass chairman isn’t going to give him fuck all to really work with . ITs fun just to talk shit on the blog though

        • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 3:02 pm

          Poch isn’t indemnified from criticism.

Putting achieved in inverted commas by the way is a low stunt. We’ve won a pot in night on twenty years. That’s dreadful. Citing injuries is beyond embarrassing. Ability to invest has always been there. ENIC have blown a billion on land and property opposed to players. And the chairman is a bald weirdo.

Your answers lie in there – because a proper manger wouldn’t sign for Spurs.

  • Ginger pele March 8, 2018 at 2:40 pm

Tactical inadequacy, garbage, cretin, naiivity, general gormlessness, physically pedestrian, implausibly lightweight, dreadful waste of flesh, utter irrelevance, wastefulness, etc etc. And I was starting to think that you weren’t a real Spurs supporter, sorry mate, you are definitely one of the true Yids. Only a real supporter would be so upset as to write absolute drivel about the mighty Spurs.

    • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 2:40 pm

Did you really roll off your sister to type this?

      • Aussie in Switzerland March 8, 2018 at 2:41 pm

I think he got his husband to help

  • TriniSpurs March 8, 2018 at 2:37 pm

Overcoming the pressure of these big games with the likes of Dier and Sanchez in the team’s spine was too much to ask. Wanyama and Toby were needed.

There is some question to Poch’s acquisitions like Serge, Davidson, etc. They would probably not have been on wishlist of other top 4 teams.

  • UnkleTaff March 8, 2018 at 2:22 pm

    Told you we’d lose.

    • SpurAndy 🍒π March 8, 2018 at 2:32 pm

I know what it was. You weren’t rubbing your lucky rabbits foot and hopping on your left foot whilst typing the post that did it.

  • paul March 8, 2018 at 2:22 pm

I think this Chiellini thing could be being mis-reported, he said:

“Tottenham have always created many chances to score – but they miss always something at the end”

Strikes me that he’s talking about our finishing as much as anything no?

  • Frontwheel 2 March 8, 2018 at 2:16 pm

Poch’s learning,he got it wrong but some of the silly get rid talk is knee jerk horse shit, imo

    • Harry Hotspur March 8, 2018 at 2:17 pm

  • Spurssince80 March 8, 2018 at 2:09 pm

I disagree with the article. Pochettino is the best manager Spurs have had in decades. This team is the best team Spurs have had in decades. They are playing the kind of ball that only Man city have bettered this season and they are doing with peanuts for salaries and pittance for transfer money.

That said mistakes were made last night and they are mistakes that have happened before. We do not seem to be able to do real time game management. We did not react to the formation shift from Allegri which would have been ok for the first goal – the change to the first goal was about 3 mins – but not to change after the first goal was criminal. If Dier was injured as we are told, Wanyama should have started the second half. The minute the first goal went in, Wanyama (Dier) and Dembele should have been told to sit smack bang in front of the back 4 but they weren’t. Then when the second went in, it was time for Moura not Lamela for Alli not Dier who would not have been on the pitch.

It is easy in hindsight. But for a guy who studies the game, has a vision and clearly prepares for every game, it got caught by the football equivalent of switching hands in boxing.

If I was to pick one player out for their contribution and it is a wasted exercise today – it would be Alli. For weeks now he is hooked on spectacular. Step overs, pull backs, cruyff turns, flicks………..just put the ball on the deck, look up and make the right pass. The number of times he gave the ball away last night was criminal especially at 2-1 down.

I think they believed they were practically there at half time and to be fair, they were in total control but when it went pear shaped liked it did in Turin in the start, there was no time to fix it. It is extremely disappointing.

    • Freund or Foe March 8, 2018 at 2:12 pm

It kicked off a bit where I was sitting. I don’t get it though, give them a bit of stick for sure, but it’s no big deal.

  • paul March 8, 2018 at 1:57 pm

I said it before and i’ll say it again, if we don’t get CL for next season i estimate the probability of multiple key player loss at around 70%. I don’t care if you disagree and no it doesn’t make me a disloyal Spurs fan to have this OPINION

    • Bobby March 8, 2018 at 2:02 pm

What, we’re going to lose 70% of Harry Kane?

      • paul March 8, 2018 at 2:03 pm
