Spurs bounced back from their north London derby disappointment with a trouble-free three points, with Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min grabbing the goals.

Hasenhuttl will take over from interim Kelvin Davis, who becomes the No.2, and begins the task of guiding the Saints out of the bottom three, though he will have been encouraged by the final 30 minutes as they were the better side and got a late consolation through Charlie Austin.

Before that, Hugo Lloris produced a number of fine saves and they hit the woodwork three times.

The writing was on the wall as early as the third minute when Son was fed by Kieran Trippier’s header and his sweet first-time volley crashed into the post.

With Hasenhuttl assessing his players, left-back Matt Targett will have earned a black mark next to his name for his lax defending that allowed Spurs to take a ninth-minute lead.

As the hosts played a corner short, Targett fatally did not match Kane’s run to the near post and the England captain rammed home Christian Eriksen’s cross.

It was his ninth Premier League goal of the season and seventh in six games against the Saints.

With an early goal in the bank, Spurs would have fancied flexing their muscles, but they were reliant on a stunning save from Lloris to keep their advantage.

The France goalkeeper somehow got his fingertips to a swerving effort from Pierre Hojbjerg and tipped it onto the post.

That gave the hosts the wake-up call they needed and they were quick to reassert their authority, with Kane forcing Alex McCarthy into a low save before the Saints goalkeeper had to smartly tip over from Son.

Pochettino’s men were in no mood to let Southampton make it nervy for them and two goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half killed the game.

After Eriksen’s low free-kick was well saved by McCarthy, Moura fired home from the resulting corner at the second attempt.

Four minutes later it was three and Targett was the culprit again as Trippier dispossessed him, passed to Kane, whose low cross was easy for Son to turn in from inside the six-yard box.

Hasenhuttl will have at least been encouraged by Southampton’s response to going 3-0 down as they showed plenty of spirit.

Nathan Redmond sent a swerving effort thudding into the crossbar from distance, then Trippier did well to block James Ward-Prowse’s shot before Lloris denied the same player with a save.

The frame of the goal was hit a third time when Mohamed Elyounoussi’s powerful header rebounded off the crossbar before they finally registered when Austin sprung the offside trap and fired home.

For Spurs, the last 30 minutes was a disappointment, but they move back into the top three after results elsewhere went in their favour.

Wembley is rubbish. I wouldn’t pay to go in there. I only go coz of free tickets. They’ve scattered around a few blue seats like that makes a difference. The acoustics are so poor. When singing it all clashes like a bad DJ trying to mix two tunes with completely different BPMs. On the saints performance we weren’t that good. We’re the paaaaaaaaark lane park lane tott en ham. Didnt feel right

United want poch and willing to pay £40m…whoever thinks he is staying next year for this…I would like what they are having.

    • Tappaspur December 7, 2018 at 10:26 am

Poch aint going nowhere. Not before he makes history in the new place. If he left now he’d be a failure. Ill bet my bum on it poch staying for at least another season

      • Only me December 7, 2018 at 10:39 am

you really believe that? Poch will be gone in the summer. Only reason he doesn’t go is if Mournho sticks around or Levy goes on a January spending spree.

And today in fake news, Man Utd are stealing Poch for 40 million.

he’s either stupid or still suffering from mental illness…what ever it is someone should tell him to guano the flip up….he’s upset because he thinks 60k a week isn’t enough…he may be a nice lad but asking for respect requires a bit more in my book…he seems to have forgotten his privilege position…and as usual, like Poch, they seem to miss the point…yes its a bitch to get home from but for me personally I’m not going coz its a soulless poo hole, I was told it would be one year, theres no concession from the club (they are charging top dollar), I was FORCED to buy my ticket at Wembley or lose my ST, the football isn’t great and we still don’t know what’s going on..fans HAVE HAD ENOUGH…

ENIC and Levy are small time, tight fisted chancers operating at the top level of an industry in which they are out of their depth.

What really winds me up about fans that moan about Poch is their continuous denial about the fact that if he wasn’t manager that we would be in 6th-7th place with no hope of Champions League football.

You LEVY spend to the level of 7th-8th and find yourself in 3rd and 4th all the time, it just isn’t logical.

Oh but wait… when you have a head coach and back room staff of exceptional ability it’s different.

Someone who can extract every last drop of of their limited resources then makes the 8th spend look like some kind of economic master plan.

The reality is that ENIC and Levy are cheapskates who don’t put a penny of their own money in. The 8th spend is funded by the most money a property developer can hoover up by begging and borrowing.

Poch IS the modern day Spurs, anything good about what the team has done over the last 4 years is completely down to him.

Levy got lucky, Levy never even expected us to be in the Champions League, probably ever, as he was never going to finance such an outrageously risky plan.

Poch is great and ENIC are draining every last drop of anything credible from THFC. Poch will be next to evaporate under the relentless and soulless venture capitalism behind Levy’s lies…

I know you do not like Rose, just like Bonzo Mr. Hotspur, but at least give him credit for speaking his mind mate. It`s really refreshing. He has been our longest serving player at the club on a senior level and deserves a lot of respect in my opinion.

    • East Stand December 6, 2018 at 8:24 pm

After slagging the supporters off for thinking he was guano back wnen he was guano? That’s not accepting criticism from the fans when you aren’t doing great. Certainly peaks his mind alright…

    • Harry Hotspur December 6, 2018 at 10:39 pm

Next you’ll be telling me he’s a loyal servant.

Has it occurred to that all his quotes are purely designed to remind other managers that he’s still alive?

      He wants out.

      • East Stand December 6, 2018 at 10:52 pm

The trouble with Rose is that he’s thought for some time that he’s destined for bigger and better things. In actual fact he’s been past his peak, well before he started mouthing off…

  • Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? December 6, 2018 at 1:39 pm

Wow. 33,000 !? Maybe people are coming round. If Levy continues sausaging the proverbial the new place won’t be filled either week in week out.

  • Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? December 6, 2018 at 1:30 pm

As a non proper Spurs fan I couldn’t possibly comment on that performance.

    • Harry Hotspur December 6, 2018 at 1:32 pm

      Hehehehehe

  • Finn December 6, 2018 at 1:28 pm

I could have got up real early (my time) to watch and I normally would have, but after the NLD, I just said bollocks and rolled over for a lay in.

    Maybe I wasn’t the only one……….

    • Harry Hotspur December 6, 2018 at 1:32 pm

Too close to the truth, Finn.

Actually don’t see any problem with this comment
The atmosphere WAS shocking, people are voting with their feet and it must affect the players. Not sure what else he was meant to say.
He said he doesn’t blame the fans.

  • Eddie December 6, 2018 at 12:41 pm

Who do you mean Harry,Rose or Davies?

    • OrganicPaper December 6, 2018 at 12:34 pm

not too bad this time. I think the word ‘slams’ is a bit over the top, he was clearly asked a direct question about the guano attendance and we all know he does not possess much of a filter.

I didnt see the game last night but i hear he was decent enough. I hope he does get a run in the side and provide some genuine competition for the usually excellent Davies

    • Harry Hotspur December 6, 2018 at 12:36 pm

      He’s finished, matey

      • Cabspur December 6, 2018 at 4:42 pm

        Which one? 🙂

      • Tappaspur December 7, 2018 at 10:42 am

Head meds and elite sports don’t mix. He’ll never be the same player again unless he comes off them, which I wouldn’t recommend.

He’s right. Wembley is guano WHL is the place we should be playing at. A magical place that was levelled by scum.
