Tottenham said goodbye to Wembley in style as they came from behind to beat Leicester 5-4 in a thrilling final-day Premier League encounter.

Spurs are returning to their rebuilt White Hart Lane stadium next season after playing this term at the national stadium and braces from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela and a Christian Fuchs own goal gave them the win that sealed third place.

Kane’s two goals took his tally to 30 for the season and it was an encouraging performance ahead of this summer’s World Cup, but he ultimately fell two goals short in his pursuit of a third successive Golden Boot.

Leicester were great value and played their part, having led 3-1, with two goals for Jamie Vardy and one apiece from Riyad Mahrez and Kelechi Iheanacho.

All the focus was on whether Kane could catch leading scorer Mohamed Salah, but it was his England team-mate Vardy who got in on the action first.

Vardy was unmarked to head Mahrez’s fourth-minute free-kick into the far corner for his 19th league goal of the campaign.

It took just three minutes for Kane to make his mark, though, as Lucas Moura won the ball high up the pitch and released his team-mate, who raced in on goal and fired past Eldin Jakupovic at the near post.

It was his 40th goal of the season, the most by a Spurs player since Clive Allen bagged 49 in the mid-1980s.

Leicester, though, had not come for a party and regained the lead in the 16th minute when Mahrez lashed home from the edge of the area after Victor Wanyama was dispossessed.

It was a good job Spurs had already booked their top-four spot as they were second best and only a brilliant stop from Hugo Lloris kept the deficit at one as the France international produced a fine one-handed save to keep out Demarai Gray’s effort.

There was absolutely nothing Lloris could do about Iheanacho’s stunning strike that did extend Leicester’s lead two minutes after the restart.

After a poor header from Eric Dier, Iheanacho picked the ball up, shrugged off Wanyama’s challenge and launched an unstoppable effort from 25 yards that rifled into the top corner.

Spurs looked dead and buried, but an incredible three-goal blast in 11 minutes turned the game in their favour.

Two minutes after Iheanacho’s effort Lamela got his first league goal since August 2016 when he tapped home from Kyle Walker-Peters’ low cross at the end of a neat move.

It was all-square in the 53rd minute when Lamela’s shot went in off Fuchs for an own goal and the comeback was complete seven minutes later with a carbon copy of Lamela’s first – the Argentinian converting another Walker-Peters cross from close range.

The Foxes were still not budging and after Lloris produced another fine save to deny Iheanacho, they got themselves back level in the 73rd minute when Vardy got in behind the defence and smashed high into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

Kane, though, had the final say and bowed out on 30 league goals and it was a beauty, as he left Hamza Choudhury for dead and curled the ball into the far corner to end the match and Tottenham’s Wembley stay in fine fashion.

    SpurAndy 🍒π
Gents all I know is what I see and hear. We finished 3rd in the league with some great wins but no silverware, so my cup is three quarters full. Could be better but could be worse. When I hear people on here say they hate the owners, they hate the manager, they hate the team, they hate this player or that player I’m confused why they put themselves through the pain of following the club. If something annoyed me that much I’d do something else with my life. Appreciate we’re all different so everybody to there own I spose.
In regards to poch, the latest presser does seem a change of tone for him. I don’t know whether this is good or bad. If Poch is being poched then he could be making demands he knows he won’t get cos he’s then got an excuse to leave. On the other hand he may have had preliminary discussions with levy to sound him out and hes not been rebuffed so is just trying to put a bit more pressure to get more money. I just don’t know. Even if he does get more money it almost certainly won’t be enough to satisfy a lot on here and that will probably be because of FFP limitations of having the 6th highest revenue.
At the end of the day I look at where the club is and compare it against other clubs and then think how bad or how good is it right now and I personally feel far more positive than negative at this moment so if that makes me a flat earther then so be it.

Andy, I appreciate your brand of support – slightly unquestioning.

Some of us on here have a bone to pick when we see the club doing well in some aspects, and atrociously in others.

Me, myself, am all about transfers. I cannot understand when we’ve been so close two years running why we make deadline day purchases of un-scouted dross. We hear a lot about our revamped scouting setup. It’s barely been functioning – with purchases of players such as Llorente and Sissoko on deadline day. I understand why they were bought (we didn’t get our first choices), but what they’ve done is handicap our progress. Sissoko is on £95k a week. Some people say things like ‘he actually didn’t play too badly today…’ and THAT’s the problem. Nkoudou, Njie, Janssen, similar. The ill-thought-out purchases (which every club has) infuriate me endlessly – particularly given our position on the cusp of actually doing something tangible. It’s doing something almost tangible and then Levy making the wrong decisions. Bringing in inferior product.

Levy’s MO of ‘this is the way we’ve always done things and continue to do so’ needs to change. And now Poch has come out and said this publicly.

Maybe we’ll buy Anthony Martial and he’ll turn out to be a flop. It’s unlikely, but possible. But I’ll personally be much happier knowing we made a financial attempt (it’s a money business, after all) to achieve something.

There are players, like Sissoko and Nkoudou (and possibly Aurier) who wouldn’t make it at MK Dons. Watching them play for us breaks my heart. This doesn’t mean I don’t support the team – I spend at least 2 or 3 hours every day following them. It means I want the best for us.

Poch is asking them to take risks, and with it he is taking a risk.Good on Poch.
He deserves a chance. Maybe he will even get better with his selections in game too.
I do respect what he is doing and hope he follows through and doesnt wilt 100%

    • Tappaspur May 14, 2018 at 11:40 am

      But klopps better??

      • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:54 am

I like Klopp. He has spent less time with Liverpool than Pochs been with us but been supported by their owners. I do think he is a good manager.

        • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:58 am

£75M on Van Dijk raised eyebrows. Risky outlay – yes but done well.

Dunno but mines at work 🙂 🙂

  • Wig May 14, 2018 at 11:27 am

Great game from KWP and I hope he will get more chances to start next season. He plays both LB and RB too, so his versatility would help as back-up to both Davies and Trippier, allowing us to sell Rose and sideline Aurier.

I would like to see us buy Sessegnon, de Ligt, Emre Can (on a free!), and a decent striker back-up for Kane

    • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:28 am

We need to go after Kovacic that should do it

      • Tappaspur May 14, 2018 at 11:34 am

Lets go isco lets go isco 🙂

        • Wig May 14, 2018 at 11:41 am

I’d love Isco but I don’t think Real will want to sell

          • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:48 am

We dont need Isco while we have Eriksen.Eriksen is getting really close to being one of the very top these days.Moura will also offer creativity.

            • Wig May 14, 2018 at 11:51 am

Agree… we’re not sure of attacking midfield talent. We need a better holding midfielder

              • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:53 am

We need a Modric /David Silva type creative midfielder.

                • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:59 am

DD you are a year behind. To me this year,Eriksen has proved to be of that calibre. He has taken a very proactive stance in his games and shown he can be influential in the game. Not just highlights. Ive seen him grow this year tremendously.

                  • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 12:01 pm

                    Fair point

              • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:53 am

Kovacic I think can play DM or CM….

      • Wig May 14, 2018 at 11:35 am

You are always banging the Kovacic drum. But has there been any real transfer links between Spurs and him that would make him an actual possibility? If he’s as good as you perceive him then I hope this isn’t just fantasy

        • MysteriousStranger May 14, 2018 at 11:42 am

Poch won’t want to sell him to us after Liverpool win the Champions League…

              • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:55 am

Ah I knew there was something there more than what I thought you said. MS I shouldnt have doubted you 🙂

                • MysteriousStranger May 14, 2018 at 11:58 am

        • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:45 am

Its fantasy Wig. But what Tottenham need is a strong physical but talented Midfielder. Dembele is strong and talented but doesnt have a big vision. We need to move forward better from midfield. Kovacic for me ticks the boxes. He is a reserve at Madrid. If we are looking for cheap buys, yes there is no hope but I think he would be our modern day Mackay. With Eriksen and Moura offering the talent we do need a player of strength that can fill Dembeles position and we will be all set.

          • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:46 am

His name is CORIC – who?

            • MysteriousStranger May 14, 2018 at 12:02 pm

So good, he’s still in Zagreb.

      • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:42 am

As we have been linked to both ISCO and KOVACIC for years surely we can forget it now unless of course they are used as bait in any exchange deals.

        • Wig May 14, 2018 at 11:49 am

If Toby is really on his way out of Spurs this summer then maybe he is perfect bait to prise Isco or Kovacic from Real

          • Ronwol196061 May 14, 2018 at 11:50 am

We dont need Isco,we will ne another CB though and we do need a Kovacic type (there are very few)

          • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:51 am

You will recall w have first option on Bale.

Im not saying Isco isnt look,I love Isco but we dont need him as much as a CM with some power
Infact Kovacic can be the DM with Eriksen in the Modric role. It all cant be bad

    • caveman May 14, 2018 at 11:25 am

  • Tappaspur May 14, 2018 at 10:49 am

    • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:16 am

How much did Arse pay for Abeumayang, Mulitherhran and Lacasette?

      • David Dillenberg May 14, 2018 at 11:19 am

        Thats quality!

      • Tappaspur May 14, 2018 at 11:23 am

        Too much

      • MysteriousStranger May 14, 2018 at 11:40 am

Don’t know about the three you mention, but they paid £56m for a forward called Aubameyang, they got a player called Mkhitaryan in a swap deal for a player called Sánchez, and signed a guy called Lacazette for £46.5m.

    Sexy Beast
If there isn’t enough cash for MP then perhaps it’s time for ENIC to look for outside investment or sell up? Levy surely can see the future is with Pooch at the helm or its back to Thursday night cup for Spurs.

They have the money, they don’t want to spend it

Then it’s time to sell up 😔
