A GUEST BLOG from Ray Milo<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
A few chickens have come home to roost.
Pochettino is a very positive person, so I hope he can use the mistakes made against Leicester to help the team to grow and learn.
Certainly his press conference was more positive than the team’s performance. MoPo isn’t one to wash his linen in public.
The enforced absence of Alderweireld and Lamela showed a couple of problems. Firstly, Vertonghen tends to wander if Toby isn’t about.
A few times Dier ended up to the left of Vertonghen – notably for the Leicester goal. If Toby had been tracking Vardy ‘inside’, as he should have been, Dier would have been another body in the middle of the penalty area (where he should have been) to stop Vardy’s cross.
Then there is the enigma that is Lamela. When he is in the side I marvel at his speed of thought. But only when he doesn’t have time to think.
Give him time to think and he will over-embellish, try a flick that inevitably doesn’t come off, or get caught in possession.
We have paid a lot of money for a player who only shows flashes of his brilliance going forward, but he does work hard for the team.
Against Leicester we lacked his physicality and commitment.
This leads on to another problem or two.
Who is actually getting the team going? – Or the crowd for that matter? Against Manchester City, the atmosphere was superb.
You just knew from the start of the game that the tempo was high and consequently the ball moved quickly. But yesterday, from the off, both the crowd and the team were very flat. Where is the ‘Stephen Freund’ type player interacting with the crowd?
To get the crowd going, perhaps MoPo should take a leaf out of Conte’s book? And who (on the pitch) is bawling out the players and pushing them to perform better? It was obvious that the tempo was too slow.
What I saw was a bunch of individuals who didn’t recognise this or were powerless to change things.
A team in need of a Cockerel?
Lloris, for all his leadership qualities, should not be captain.
Supposedly, only the captain can approach the referee to ‘discuss’ decisions made on the pitch. Yesterday’s referee had a very curious game and made many poor decisions, for both teams.
The Leicester players committed petty fouls all over the pitch to try to frustrate Spurs, many off the ball.
How is Lloris able to bring this to the referee’s attention if he is 70 yards away in goal? You need a player ‘up field’ in the heat of the action, giving the referee a roasting.
Lloris should be kept as club captain, but we need a leader of men further up the pitch. For now, my choice would be Ericssen. I think he needs to be dictating the way we play. But I am not convinced.
Eventually the captain should be Dele Alli. Yet again he showed why he is on a different planet from the rest of the team.
Please pass my match notes on to Mr Pochettino if you will.
We lost this game last season btw…
After dominating possession just like yesterday. We aren’t making a great deal of progress are we. Leics haven’t won away this season. A very different story to last time we played them.

Toby captain now, he has earned respect as a performer and can ask others to be as professional as he is. Dier will be captain one day, probably succeeding Toby. I think defensive players see the game ahead of them and read the action better than in midfield.
Spot on
Agree, no brainer.
Some excellent points. For me, Dier would be an excellent captain. He is quick to defend the club in the media when he perceives people are saying unkind things, and immediately insisted Kane should have been on the Ballon d’Or list- he should. I guess that becomes problematic if he loses his place to Wanyama when Toby is back.
Son has had a couple of poor games. Real lack of effort, which is what disappoints me. He was rightly subbed early against Bournemouth, and does seem to lack motivation.
We were slow-paced yesterday, but I thought that was deliberate. Leicester are so good on the counter, it seemed to me to be tactical not to press them high up the pitch, leaving gaps behind for them to run into. Against City, we just beat them at their own game, but our usual tactics have not been particularly successful against Leicester.

it’s a Capital offense
Nutty was quick to capitalise on it…

It amazes me that the thought of Trump becoming your leader would bring cries of YIPEEEEEEEEEEE,.It would be like Piers Wankerface running Britian.

YIPEEEEEEEEEEE
I’ll take Hillary any day over Trump
Its going to be a scary world if that geezer takes over….. He will be tweeting to Kim Kardashian while he is negotiating with Putin
Trump won’t be my leader Fronty, but Hitlery will push for more wars and less civil rights and the end of free speech. She is the devil in sheeps clothing, he said he will drain the swamp
Civil rights ?Trump has already been done for not renting his property’s to Afro Americans, called all Mexicans drug dealers and rapists, etc.I wonder how they feel about civil rights and free speech.I suppose a country gets the leader it deserves.
if you don’t believe me when i talk about tryanny watch this film, abook written by Naomi Wolf who’s mum or gran escaped the Nazi’s and spent years telling her that the Nazi’s moved against the people just the same way that the US Government were doing it now.
watch and come back and tell me its wrong…………………………………..

I wouldn’t dream of watching it,I’ve seen lots of bits of films like this and I am generally quite astounded that most of you don’t question the facts.Just because you want to believe what your watching does not make it true.
I’m gonna say no more.
Go on, say more.
Fronty said he was gonna say ‘”no more” and indeed he did.
The 30%
Less ‘civil liberties’ with Hillary? I doubt that. Unless you mean less for some and whole lot more for others. Hillary is the liberal left’s wet dream.
What including the one Edgar Mitchell sent her regarding ETs and Zero Point Energy?

An article which I enjoined reading but then the writer spoiled it all by suggesting that Erikson should be made captain. IMO this player has been a complete waste of space this season and if I were responsible for team selection I would drop him immediately. May I suggest that the burden should fall on Toby’s shoulder.
You mean enjoyed? Rather than joined?
Yes of course. Apologies.
I added the caveat that I am not convinced… it was a bit of click bait tbh… but certainly we need stronger leadership further up the pitch…
Forget Poch sign Donald Trump he would do this..

Smithy for Captain/Motivational Guest
Hi try and watch Gavin’s and Stacey it’s brilliant
My opinion is that Lams and Erikson are favourites for whatever reason. The day that status is lowered, is the day the team starts to click. Humility is a powerful motivator.
“Who is actually getting the team going?”
This pertinent question is one I’ve bin asking on and off for around 15 years. I wouldnt’ give the task to Irksome because although he has was it takes to orchestrate, I’m not at all convinced he has the personality to gee himself up never mind anyone else. I feel that with this squad, only a front midfield captain will do. I agree that Alli oops could one day take that job, but I also agree that now is too early. I think we’re a good striker and an experienced midfield captain short of a title challenge.
Irksome? Deliberate or mistake: its brill.
“Deliberate or mistake”?!!
How very dare you Spacus.

What responsibility?????
Has he ever taken responsibility?
Captain on the pitch should be Toby. Rose is growing into the role but not yet, our problem is not having anyone vocal on the pitch and has been for many a year. Sometimes you need a captain who has the respect of all on the pitch who when he lays into you for not doing your job on the pitch you don’t go into a sulk. He points it out because you have let the team down and the emphasis is on ‘team’
Many people believe leadership is all about shouting at people it isn’t, if it was then we’d all be General Melchett!
Baaah.

PS Agree with That UFP.
What is all these fuss about, ffs. Lest anyone forgets, there’s a characteristic that’s typical of every team that, consistently, operates in the top half of the EPL: there’s always a barren spell in the course of a season. Just as there’s always a productive spell, when they go on a 6/7/8-game winning streak.
If you’re a glass-is-half-empty kind of supporter, you may want to view the spell we’re going through as our productive spell. As for me, glass-is-half-full supporter that I am, with recent evidence in the past three years, not least by our recent performance against Guardiola Pep’s City, I believe this is our barren spell. And, am i glad we’re pulling off draws rather than the defeats anyone who’s been following Spurs in recent years knows we would have suffered.
Sometimes, even in football, where it might not seem to apply, you have to believe in your own game (plan). Just as you might hear a jockey or 400m hurdler say: you have to run your race (the way you planned it, and not get suckered by the front-runner). In other words, stop casting envious glances at Liverpool or Arsenal’s winning streak. Their barren spell will come, and they’ll be glad to be pull off draws, then, if they can.
Good work.
” … pull off draws …”
I hear you Rofo, but is it possible that we are only doing enough to not lose and thus end up with draws and not doing enough to win?
Do you not believe we have been, and are, a different team under Poch? And, even if we have been ‘doing enough to not lose’, it may be a strategy to manage playing however many games in so few days.
for sure we are different under Poch. I was just curious as to whether you think we are doing enough to win at this time.
I believe we’re not doing enough to win, if the City game is anything to go by.
Nice one Rofo.
My blog wasn’t about whether we win, lose or draw. It’s about our attitude in the game. Yesterday the tempo just wasn’t there. If we play at a high tempo and lose, fair enough. But to watch Lloris you wouldn’t know he was captain.
Every now and then players need a rocket. And the referee needs constant pressure to remind him of the error of his ways.
Fuck glasses when they are half empty are always half full… Its a question of selective binary choices but there isn’t one
Barren spell huh..? We had that last season at least twice, it cost us second and probably first….Too many draws, then implosion in the last 4 weeks.
We rode our luck last season where Kane was concerned. It’s now coming home to roost when he gets a knock.
That game plan you talk of ! Just what is the game plan ? From what I’ve seen this season and last it’s about possession. We dominate it but do little with it. Seems MoPo’s phylosophy is if the opposition doesn’t have the ball they can’t score… We don’t lose.
The teams we played recently have all lost since we played them. Leicester haven’t won on the road this season. If we are to be genuine contenders for top 3 or better then things have to change, and change fast. I’m not convinced MoPo is the man to do it.
How about making adjustments? No?
Then try alternative tactics?
No?
Add a little oomph then?
No?
(I hate these negative fuckers)
Likey Rofo ?
Huh? Eriksen as captain? You sure about that Ray? He reminds me of Hooks from Police Academy. But I doubt we’ll get a ”FREEZE DIRT BAG” out of him anytime soon.
I pick Eriksen, because I am hoping the responsibility will shake him up a little and change his attitude… Glad someone can spell his name…
Poch tried that with Kaboul and we know how that ended. Captaincy is normally granted based upon a respect and leadership issue. Eriksen has not earned it IMO.
Hope, you going to hope eternally brother. No offence intended. But it is a good thoughtful, provocative synopsis.
Disagree with the point on Lams. Our game is too slow, he thinks therefore he is not. Ok agree somewhat. I did feel comfortable knowing Lams was not tracking back to give away a foul or the ball.
Agree with the captaincy issue. My choice is Toby or latterly Wanyama.
Erikson should be sent on motivational training to outer Mongolia for the remainder of his contract, let alone made captain.
When the team starts exciting the crowd by virtue of attacking footie, they will get behind, naturally. Yesterday they were shouting and singing the hearts out but we quietened them by boring them, its a wonder no one died. Its up to the players.
Seriously, i think the players are instructed to start easy, conserve energy press and wait for openings. No one is going to give it up that easy. We have to work hard, be vigilent in attack and defense, take risks, and be clinical. Its up to the eleven on the pitch, ss Pocho is not the shouting, ranting raving type.
God bless SS Poch and all who sail in him.
It’s an offence to rant at the ref now.
I meant ranting and raving at his bloody bolloxing underperformers
As you were, Private.
Ok Kapitan. I will stop ranting n raving now, sir.
Rave on, Dude.
Danny Rose for Capitaine in my opinion.
Capitaine, derived from the French for Captain, may also refer to:
Hogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus), an edible marine fish in the Labridae family, found in the western Atlantic
Nile perch (Lates niloticus), a freshwater fish in the Centropomidae family, important as food in much of Africa.
