Believe it or don’t, over two dozen clubs made enquiries about loaning Marcus Edwards from Tottenham Hotspur.

Gladys believes that nineteen enquiries came from the Championship alone.

The hysteria surrounding this kid bemuses me. Some responsibility surely lies with Mauricio Pochettino who opted to trowel praise upon the U19 starlet last year.

“He is a very good prospect and, potentially, he can be a top player but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player, but now it’s how he builds his future – that’s very important.

Spurs fans are notorious for showing almost unhinged levels of affection  towards Academy players based upon very little. This is something that has struck me as strange given the abysmal success rate.

Edwards’ recently enjoyed a significant contract extension which must have been based upon something other than his fleeting appearance in a League cup game we lost.

I’ll be amazed if this kid bucks the trend, stunned. All I see is a kid that whilst he may be able to fizz about, he doesn’t do well enough to do more than make our first team bench once.

Thank god your thoughts are restricted to rantings on the internet and you’re not actually involved in the game.

  • Real MadYid September 4, 2017 at 6:50 pm

Young players in big clubs with game time become good, loaning them out can be useless if the commitment isn’t there. Give him a chance now whilst we are light in Son & Sissokos possition, anyone could play better than then right now. After 29 games he’ll be worth 170m, that’s basically what Monaco did with all their kids LOL.

  • East Stand September 3, 2017 at 2:45 am

Make him skipper, put him on the same money as Kane. He’s the future don’t you know?

  • Bobo September 3, 2017 at 12:09 am

    Remember Luka under Ramos?
    Watch this kids highlights.

He’s needs to work hard this is a big season for him.

  • Tottenham central September 2, 2017 at 11:32 pm

All marcus needs now is first team games. I think he’s ready. Not many better dribblers at the club than him.

    • East Stand September 3, 2017 at 2:50 am

He has to go on loan like Kane did and grow up properly playing well and developing. That’s his job for the next few years, if he does well enough then all the glory stuff follows.

Until then let’s just leave him out of the discussion, he has nothing to do with the first team…

      • Devonshirespur September 3, 2017 at 8:18 am

I’m not convinced Kane’s loans did anything for him. He is just a very hard working dedicated player with a superb professional attitude. If any young player with talent had this they’d make a success of themselves. iMO a loan might make a player realise that the lower leagues is not where they want to be, make them more.determined to be a success but I think for small skillful players like Edwards, they’ll struggle to get game time in a more physical and hugely competitive Championship. Better to be nurtured at home and slowly introduced like Winks than thrown in at the deep end somewhere else.

Play the boy now I say. A 17 boy just scored for wales. Poch. Be brave. He’s a great footballer. He can beat players mate. Chuck him in!! Confident boy. I say.

          • Tottenham central September 3, 2017 at 8:28 am

The beasts we have will look after him. He will get bullied” what in a practically non contact sport?

        • Mee23 September 3, 2017 at 2:09 pm

You may not be, but I’ve spent time with the young man when he was on loan. If he could speak for himself here, he’d tell you that he learned to focus on improving his game because of the competitive football he was playing; his hit-list was improving his mental and physical approach as well as learning his trade. He believes that he’d never have been given that chance with us, which is borne out by us nearly selling him twice under AVB. It was only the insistence of Les and Co that he wasn’t. It was also one of the key reasons that the youth coaches fell out so badly with AVB.

I have an unhinged view of Edwards but wont say a word based on being exiled to HITC who’s comments are open to all but theyve had just one comment in 4 and a half years and that was from Spurstacus’s sister who works for them.

  • Sexy Beast September 2, 2017 at 9:29 pm

How are Spain and Italy in the same group? Based on what i have seen of late England are rubbish and so so lucky to get a piss easy group compared to some, we would struggle to qualify if in a reasonably difficult group imo.
Mind you if Southgate put Marcus Edwards in the team we might just win the World Cup eh Harold??

    • RumpleSPURTSkin 💋 September 2, 2017 at 9:34 pm

Southgate picked him for the squad but Edwards walked out the physio room half way through his examination.

As regards Marcus I seem to remember stories of threats to leave being issued if the promise of elevation to the first team squad wasn’t made, hence Poch going overboard in his praise to keep him sweet.

    • baz September 2, 2017 at 9:14 pm

I’m sure that was last season that the brat had his episode

  • Jim,Newry Spur. September 2, 2017 at 9:08 pm

    Very raw but great talent
    Needs to work hard

Apparently I’m a great talent, and I definitely need to work hard, and I’m also a bit raw. The only problem is I’m a fucking Architect and not a premier league footballer with a great future. Wish I was Marcus Edwards.

    • Caspurs♿️ September 2, 2017 at 9:07 pm

You were the architect of your own downfall.

With my Agent’s hat on, he can’t be any worse than Raheem Sterling against Malta, which turn makes him the best wide player in the league.

Ahhh, I’ve got poo in my hair….

  • Steve Radley September 2, 2017 at 9:03 pm

Bring him into the first team now! #COYS
We will win the Premier League this season!
