Mauricio Pochettino’s philosophy is something that has frequently befuddled the very best of us.

Given that so many of the games under his stewardship have defied tactical analysis, the creeping suspicion was that  the ‘philosophy’ had more to do with the preparation of players that it did anything else.

Poch did give us a significant clue when he said:

…we are a club.

And when you sign a contract as a player, you need to understand that you don’t sign to play, you sign to train. And then the club signs a manager or head coach to pick the players.

This is football.

It is under Poch that the phrase ‘in the right condition’ has come to the fore.

Condition evidently relates to a player’s mental as well as physical shape.

A refreshing departure from the Arry & Timbo ‘I fink ‘e can do a job for us’ mentality.

Gladys gets about and not just under the cover of the night; she tells me that even the pre-teen kids who sign for Spurs, are now recruited under the Poch’s specific direction.

You don’t teach them how to play, you teach them how to learn.

Just think about that for a moment.

That is some philosophy.

Not difficult to understand why then, likes of Azza Blud, Adebayor and Townsend were unceremoniously binned.

You’re welcome.
