Home » Liverpool Are Irrelevant

This game is less of a must win, more of a must watch.

Whatever the result of Liverpool vs. Tottenham today. we’ll learn lot about how the top 5 will finish this season. Primarily we’ll learn if Liverpool are genuinely in the mix or not.

“Our record should be better,” said Klopp. “We know we can do a lot of good things still but we have to show it on the pitch.
“Against a team like Tottenham, we need everything. If we play like we did in first half against Hull – no chance. If we play like we did in that second half then its a better chance, but we want better.”

Klopp is spot on, of course. Liverpool have been more than a bit thin too many tomes this season. Despite the hype.

Cooling the presses overtures towards Liverpool would be nice.

You have to understand something here. There isn’t a Liverpool bias, so much as a fraught atmosphere when it come to combatting the ceaseless stream of press-worrying their fans involve themselves in.

The Liverpool Echo is subjected to constant drip drip drip of complaints from Liverpool fans unhappy with a perceived imbalance in coverage for the Reds. But the Echo is far from alone in this respect, and any national outlet that fails to treat their side with a sufficient degree of reverence, irrespective of how Liverpool are playing will be targeted for whining and threats.

What’s particularly risible is Sky’s kowtowing. Whilst the Scousers will lecture anyone at length about the embodiment of evil that is Rupert Murdoch, the City itself is a joke.

You don’t have to look very hard at all to find a bent football stream in the pubs, yet The Sun newspaper – despite what they will tell you – is still for sale and still bought.

The closest I came to not finding it was a newsagents in Bold St in the city centre that had the pile turned face down. (I had the grotesque misfortune to live on Merseyside for 2 years before I am challenged over the authenticity of these facts).

Only this week, have journalists from The Sun been banned from Melwood. They were so angry …it took them 28 years to issue a ban.

Liverpool don’t have enough about them to be contenders for anything much this season. The current league table is amore than fair representation of how things have been.

Beneath the Bindippers there’s a graveyard of also rans. If Liverpool weren’t 5th it would simply be Southampton or Everton or somebody else that wasn’t going to change the world.

Tottenham have had plenty of time to prepare for this jaunt and I’d be amazed if we didn’t win. If we drew I wouldn’t lose any sleep though.

In the scheme of things, Liverpool aren’t particularly relevant and that’s been the case for some considerable time. Despite what their very tedious fans might tell you. Over and over and over again.
