It gives me no little pleasure to tell you that the itk was right.

Bungle Von Bald-Womble aka Daniel Levy did blow his negotiations with the NFL.

Neville Chamberlain’s ‘peace in our time’ had more substance to it than Levy’s 2 games per annum deal with the NFL.

What Levy came back from New York with was a fresh footprint on his teeny ass.

The sale of Wembley stadium will in a stroke dissolve Levy’s USP.

Mark Waller of the NFL said:

“The NFL have welcomed the move with vice-president of events and international Mark Waller saying: “We are very happy for Shahid Khan and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The potential purchase of Wembley stadium is a further powerful sign of their commitment to the UK and their vision to help us grow the sport.

“Having stadium options in London has always been critical to the NFL and, in tandem with our 10-year partnership with Tottenham Hotspur, this new relationship would allow for even greater flexibility in scheduling future NFL games in London.”

The Independent sports section leader today is spot on when suggesting:

The move will be considered a huge blow to Tottenham’s hopes of housing a permanent NFL team in their multimillion new home in the future.”

This is additional deal is irresistibly weighted in the NFL’s favour.

HERE’S THE LATEST HARRy HOTSPUR VLOG VIDEO THINGY👇

Why would anyone commit to a specific venue when there is suddenly choice.

Levy pitched the NFL a ‘panacea’.

The NFL could barely believe what they were being offered.

The hire of a lifeboat in a market they knew they could ultimately dominate!

If the NFL were to be successful in England they would need far greater agility than some Byrite Bloke in N17 waffling on about a retractable pitch.

Speaking of agility – Levy will not be able to compete with Wembley.

A new owner will be able to offer any day of the year.

Billionaire American Shahid Khan could and probably will say, ‘my home is your home’…

This is how billionaires do business.

None of this ‘and we could offer you a slice of our lucrative corporate box minibar streams once certain milestones were met…

In hindsight, our glorious leader must be regretting he didn’t retract his pitch and stay in Blighty, that balmy afternoon.

Not only is ENIC’s USP is gone – more to the point there are no guarantees that the NFL won’t offer Chelsea a franchise once their arena rolls out.

As previously suggested by yours truly, do ENIC really believe an increasingly Momentum dominated Haringey Council are going to ignore the inevitable objections of local residents to concerts and just about anything else that involves a bit of a Shangri-La outside at the New Destination™?

That’s precisely what scuppered The Emirates –  and their take over wasn’t anywhere near as bloodied as ENIC’s was.

I don’t have a degree in Economics and Land Management but you might brace yourselves for a few extra pence upon the price of your gluten free, hand crafted, bagel platter de jour…

If the cost is 50M then it will have easily paid for itself. If the NFL tickets are £40 then that’s 2.5M in gate receipts alone. Over the 20 games already signed up for that’s paid for itself. If you include the corporate boxes, tv money and all the bits and pieces, its already got to be a decent earner.

The NFL teams share ticket revenue. The deal is a rental. Spurs won’t be getting ticket money.

Can we take this great opportunity to leapfrog Liverpool with 2 wins in our next couple of games?
Or will we get bantered off for bottling it?

I know which seems more likely…

Two games in hand now. Third place is ours if we’ve the balls to take it.

Bonus for Kane. Salah didn’t score. If he can get on the scoresheet Monday he is still in the hunt. A hat trick would be nice.

I watched a Q/A with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, on Thursday, on the eve of this years player draft. Of course the when/where question of a London franchise was asked and he gave the typical non specific answer that the NFL continues to study the idea, in depth. No timetable has been established but he did say that if it happened it is a ways down the road. Whatever that means. Just though I would enlighten the masses with this brilliant bit of posting. 🤓

The retractable pitch opens the stadium up for many more uses Ron, this will generate revenue for eons. With its more compact design it will be great for major boxing events and concerts.

For an accountant that is incredibly conservative, its a wonder that the schmuck would take a chance like this. One thing with defence is not to leave too many holes and certainly not a critical one.
If you buy a player for 150 mil. if it goes bad maybe you can get 50 mil but to take a gamble with the NFL when the market is not proven and one move can destroy you in one swoop seems really odd.
I don’t think Levy is the brightest spark in the world of entrepreneurshipand let him be conservative its not the worst thing in the world but why take a chance on a sport that is minimal when your team in the major sport and the business you are in is not getting what it needs. It was a tremendous gamble by the accountant.

As far as the Toby situation goes the fact is we just don’t know the full ins and outs of what happened and how it will play out, if we did offer him 130k he’d be the 2nd highest paid CH in the prem and Pooch would imo have the right to be pissed off with him. Maybe i havent a right to offer my view on this as i come from a piece of land across the choppy waters but if i was English I would be.livid that Wembley is to be sold – Wembley is a British instutition – its part of England – its something that if you are asked to name a famous landmark in England would be in the top 5 – ive been to Wembley for boxing and football and it is a great experience every time – we have Croke Park and i know for certainty if they were rumours of it being sold there would be an uprising (again) – wembley is English/British and the home of soccer – dont sell your soul FA – after that you have nothing

    • OrganicPaper April 28, 2018 at 9:04 am

      +1
This is the real problem with the Wembley sale. Many people are stupidly pointing out the Ze Germans dont own their own stadium etc but Ze Germans are not run by the bunch of fuckwit clowns we have in charge. A few of those clowns will be rubbing their sweaty little palms together thinking of a pay day with zero ability or intention to divert that money into grass roots football.
Its also a healthy profit making business and to sell it would cut off any ability to raise significant capitol without going cap in hand to the tax paying public.
Im already having nightmares abut the doomsday scenario where England play at the Dildo Brothers racing Arena in Stratford because we made ourselfs homeless

    • Ronan April 28, 2018 at 9:24 am

Virtually everything of public value in the UK is up for sale to whoever. The only strange thing about this one is that the FA has now almost paid down the huge cost of building the place. They would soon have been able to keep all the revenue from hosting events at Wembley, from here to eternity.

I am one of a minority of about 2 (me and DL perhaps..?) who do not see this Wembley thing as a catastrophe. If it is even sold!

The fact is noting has really changed. We have the 2 games a season lark which will bring in what ever it does and we will continue to try and persuade NFL to give us either more games there or the holy grail of setting up a London Franchise.
I concede the latter is a lot more difficult if Kahn owns Wembley and gets the Jags in first but this is an uprooted NFL team and not what I understand NFL want to do in terms of expanding globally. They want a London team, from London.
Kahn is taking a risk moving the Jags. There are logistical hurdles to jump and no one really knows how a global / European arm to the franchise will work. Kahn is taking on that risk and may well pave the way for us in the future – this was always going to be a long play.

Furthermore, we were always competing with Wembley. They have been hosting NFL since the early 00’s with the jags playing the vast majority of those games. So Wembley was always going to be the one to compete with and yes, the competition just got harder but this isn’t a full gone conclusion. This may well prove the market for NFL and encourage other franchises to our stadium.

Don’t read the above and think I am all for the NFL. Ive been uneasy with it from the start and I am well aware we are paying way over the odds for a vastly over spec’d stadium that will struggle to realise the non-football revenue the baldy weirdo dreams of. I just do not think this is a nail in our coffin just yet

    • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 9:00 am

The plan was always for the NWHL to be the flagship – hence the colossal expense making it purpose built.

That was never haooeneing and Baldy has wasted tens of millions of our money- I’m not giving him another penny.

      • OrganicPaper April 28, 2018 at 9:12 am

I agree he has pissed up a lot of money against a very shiny self cleaning wall.
However as I understand it the viability for the stadium was not hinged on further NFL revenue. It wasn’t even hinged on us playing Champions League football according to the viability report KPMG published.
Whats not in doubt – and supported by the same report – is that the extra NFL cost is NOT likely to have been worth it, unless a franchise is secured.
My point is that the Wembley thing makes no difference – we are neither closer nor further away from a franchise than before because we already got the big fuck you in NY!

        • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 9:55 am

The NFL deal wasn’t a hinge, but nor was it gravy.

The brochure I published on here was littered with the NFL branding and baldy sunk teams of millions into the retractable pitch and very specialised facilities.

He was under the impression that the NWHL was to be an NFL flagship.

He was wrong. It will simply be one of several venues.

In the real world, he would be thrown in a skip with the trash for this.

Working for ENIC, he gets a £6million bonus.

        • Freund or Foe April 28, 2018 at 10:28 am

Hey Org, Just read the KPMG viability report, thanks for the heads up, an interesting read.
I can’t see how the conclusion is that the extra investment for NFL is not likely to have been worth it, if the franchise is not awarded. It lists the extra costs of a provision for the NFL as one of the reasons why the post debt equity internal rate of return is low, amongst many other reasons, but then only further lists a possible NFL franchise as a scenario where the rate of return increases.
Either way, this report’s purpose is to prove to the council whether or not the rate of return on the project makes Council stipulations about social housing etc viable. I have to say, KPMG have been very kind to Daniel in their findings, as Harry has alluded to previously. We’ve had a right result.

    • SeattleSpursGuy April 28, 2018 at 9:03 am

      “a London team, from London.”

I’m not sure that means. My understanding is not much high level gridiron is played in the UK. Or anywhere besides the US. So any NFL team is coming from these shores. So why would raising a new team be be preferable to moving one over.

      • OrganicPaper April 28, 2018 at 9:15 am

I think long term the benefit of a home-grown club is the same as any sporting club – true supporters and a feel of genuine inclusion. NFL is not anywhere near out top 5 sports so I would imagine a home grown club fosters far more loyalty and willingness to buy merchandise etc

    • caveman April 28, 2018 at 9:05 am

Precisely OP. People are saying ‘lets all laugh at Daniel Levy’. Levy is no fool, nor is he a gambler. He will have done his sums and there was always the threat of others going down this road, but Wembley isn’t built to facilitate NFL like NWHL is and Levy will have a plan. If NFL takes off in London Levy’s ready, willing and waiting to offer a 30/40/50 year lease to the highest bidder and there will be bidders among the other 31 NFL teams. Lets take a back seat before we laugh at Levy’s due diligence work.

      • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 9:59 am

If Levy has a plan, then why hasn’t he shared it?

You give this guy credit for something that is invisible?

This is out of his comfort zone.

His comfort zone is bargaining for post it notes.

The Magnificent 7? He wanked money like a lottery winner.

And now, he’s build the world’s biggest chocolate fountain.

Wembley doesn’t need to be built to accommodate anything. It’s 90,000 seats and they are used to playing there and they can play any day of the week because they don’t have some twat of a tenant trying to also play soccerballfoot there on Saturdays.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 28, 2018 at 11:43 am

        • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 9:20 am

          This is the supposed breakdown
          42000 season tickets 9000 corporate/ premium
          3000 away leaves
8000 for a league game – subject to the ones allocated for residents of Enfield and Haringey.*

*This is particularly spurious. See local touts for details.

          • Sexy Beast April 28, 2018 at 9:30 am

I would say there are at least 10,000 corporate seats, 7k premium, 1,200 in the boxes, lower east either side of the halfway line 1,500 plus the 1882 crew could be nearer 12,000 corporate GULP!

  • Flynnbob April 28, 2018 at 6:54 am

As one door closes another one may have opened. If the deal does go ahead and the national stadium is sold ,reports are suggesting it could affect England games, playoffs and even cup games! And as were soon the other have the best stadium in London maybe we could be of some use.

  • SeattleSpursGuy April 28, 2018 at 4:58 am

I’m curious what the added cost will be for making the stadium NFL friendly will be–putting in a retractable pitch for NFL games (something touted as never done before), adding NFL locker rooms, NFL standard media facilities, and the myriad other costs to have NFL games–what did this add to the bill?

    • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 7:54 am

      • Sexy Beast April 28, 2018 at 8:49 am

Must be a lot, to configure it for the pitch to slide out all the way under the flats must be in the region of £150 to £250 Million on top of the build.
The multi use will make extra dish in the long run, concerts and boxing with the corporate facility it will be attractive to promoters for sure, time will tell.
But as I mentioned last night I very much doubt that the sale of Wembley will go through, Martin Glenn will be toast in a few weeks or maybe sooner…..

  • Gus April 28, 2018 at 4:51 am

Why the heck would the FA sell their national stadium? I know it’s been rebuilt but does 1966 not hold any meaning for them anymore?

    • Lord Croker April 28, 2018 at 8:03 am

      No.

  • Icespur April 28, 2018 at 1:10 am

This is a disaster for Levy no matter how the club spin this. All the branding for the new stadium has the NFL logo and Spurs logo with the Prem badge. The direct costs of the NFL entrance, changing rooms and retractable pitch probably cost an extra £50m at least in design, testing and installation. We have been on USA tours recently trying to up our status in the states where we have the 5th highest viewing figures. It probably explains why he returned empty handed from the USA whilst tying to negotiate a naming rights deal. The top players probably already had the inside track about Khan and wouldn’t commit to a stadium with no NFL connection in a few years.

I would like to add that Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, seems to have a big role in this. He seems very chummy with Shahid Khan and the timing of this announcement stinks, with Spurs fairly close to finishing the stadium. Isn’t he an Arsenal fan?

As I said this is a monumental cock up. Levy needs to pay back his bonus if this heads south!

    • Mikespurs April 28, 2018 at 1:38 am

Nothing less than hari-kiri is acceptable in my eyes.

    • AntSpurs April 28, 2018 at 2:06 am

If the cost is 50M then it will have easily paid for itself. If the NFL tickets are £40 then that’s 2.5M in gate receipts alone. Over the 20 games already signed up for that’s paid for itself. If you include the corporate boxes, tv money and all the bits and pieces, its already got to be a decent earner.

      • Mikespurs April 28, 2018 at 2:15 am

Isn’t that the argument to date. Tripping over dollars to pick up penny’s. I’m sure over 10 years he’ll make a profit. Hell, it will pay for shitsco But to what end? Saying i won something would be nice. Saying im top four really doesn’t do it it for me. Sorry

        • AntSpurs April 28, 2018 at 2:23 am

That’s a different argument Mikey. For what it’s worth I doubt the amendments cost 50M. Even still you’re looking at least 3.5M per game so 7M per year alone from the NFL and let’s say two music concerts per year again bringing in 7M. That’s 14M per year. That’s not to be sniffed at. Hardly a monumental fuck up.

          • AntSpurs April 28, 2018 at 2:29 am

          • Mikespurs April 28, 2018 at 3:10 am

Like I said I doubt he’s losing money. Prob be a few cool mil in the bank. Levys empire takes a hit if this deal goes though. Personally I want trophys. Not a bank account of whatta beens

            • AntSpurs April 28, 2018 at 3:35 am

We all want Trophy’s Mike, even DL. If we want to compete we need to earn it, this all helps. I would say the cost of this NFL/Other events modification will pay for itself in a few years and generate enough to pay for an extra few new players salaries. If you don’t think Levy will spend it on the squad, that’s a different discussion but if that’s the case then what’s the difference? I would say that although he is highly conservative/cautious in this area, if he wants all the top sponsorship, CL winning monies along with new client reference numbers not forgetting huge value increase in the sale price of THFC then he has to invest. So whilst his main interest is profits, he has to have a great team to make this happen. This helps.

    • Harry Hotspur April 28, 2018 at 8:21 am

The itk on Levy having his pants pulled down in New York came initially from two, then a third independent sources.

A reader of this blog who is a realtor in the states did business with a client who in heavily involved with the NFL. Talking sports, the client tells him, ‘your boy really screwed up’ and proceeds to describe how Levy went about acting the small time c*nt in front of genuine big hitters. They were basically stunned this nipple had pitched how his yet to be built stadium was going to save their booming empire.

The second source was an employee at Tavistock where Daniel is ‘unloved’, who was telling literally everyone he met including the guy he bought his morning paper from that Laughing Boy had come back from NYC with a key ring and a map of the city. The plan was for the NWHL to be the NFL flagship and they said no.

Finally I was then was contacted by someone who’s best mate in London worked for Nike. Same story.

Not one person said ‘oh, it’s a good foot in the door’, everyone reported back that he’d bungled it and worse yet had really annoyed them.

As per the blog, It’s not difficult to picture the NFL holding regular jamborees in their 3 London arenas, the national stadium Wembley, always well heeled Chelsea and stinky Tottenham.

Levy’s magic just got divided by 3.

  • Sexy Beast April 28, 2018 at 12:09 am

I tell you what mate, it would be a really sad indictment on football. All the money sloshing around, players and agents earning 10’s of millions, and our own organisation have to sell their biggest, profit making asset for a loss.

      • Nick April 28, 2018 at 12:40 am

You hit on the crux of the issue,Wembley cost £800m to build, debt set to be paid off so all plain sailing from 2024,why would they sell for £8-900m ? Unless the fix is in

  • Nick April 27, 2018 at 11:47 pm

This all said, there’s no guarantee that the khan deal will go through & I’ve got an inkling that even if it does ,it’ll involve Fulham F.C. & the sale/development of craven cottage somewhere along the line.Anyone fancy signing a parliamentary petition? It won’t be good for us or football if Khan gets his way.Ultimately how could football come home ever again?

    • Freund or Foe April 27, 2018 at 11:49 pm

I would bet an extremely large amount of money on Fulham never living at Wembley, but I don’t have an extremely large amount of money. Would you accept a wine gum challenge?

  • Nick April 27, 2018 at 11:42 pm

What you guys don’t get in H,s statement is The 20 games over ten years is fuck all.I would almost guarantee that it has ifs buts here and therefore s meaning at ANYTIME the NFL can say sorry bud this isn’t working for us,have a nice day now. After investing I’d guess over £200m of YOUR. Money on this gamble,we will inevitably lose out.As I said yesterday,we could always hold boot sales & the antiques roadshow once a fortnight.

    • SeattleSpursGuy April 27, 2018 at 11:48 pm

A contract always has ifs and therefores, but I doubt the NFL could unilaterally cancel it for no good reason.

      • Nick April 27, 2018 at 11:56 pm

I insinuate that but I know that there’d be issues, the NFL would just tie Levy up in litigation till it’s not worth the fight, what’s the deal worth total? £20m ? Chicken feed

Antiques Roadshow is a license to print money- they have queues of people round the block

  • Legoverlass April 27, 2018 at 11:10 pm

Levy is a little man with a Napolean complex. He tried to micro manage the NFL and they have swatted him like a pimple on the backside of an elephant. Did he really believe he could somehow hold the NFL to ransome with the New Destination. The NFL see the UK as a gateway into Europe. They also only want to associate with winners and no bargain basement mentality with zero success is going to warm them to Levynomics. Now if we had world class players winning world class competitions they might take him more seriously but he is a chairman of a “soccer” club who has won nothing with a manager who has won nothing. Hardly a glowing resume to associate with?

If there was more to tell, the NFL and Levy would have been singing from the rooftops. 2 game deal and Baldy thought he had a clear run at it.

Wembley will be sold, this is the FAs payday.

          • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 28, 2018 at 10:56 am

Perhaps. I always wondered how Spurs fans would av reacted to being a groundshare immediately. I know I’d be livid. I was anyway. Its a lot to come right out with. Drip feed works where the proles are concerned. Its Levy’s project, but with Lewis always hovering I just can’t see this kind of fuck up. This is a man who made a Fortune from our currency collapsing(allegedly). He knows what’s happening before it happens. He doesn’t strike me as someone who would allow a situation like this. Its a mess which ever way. Horrid.

  • SeattleSpursGuy April 27, 2018 at 11:08 pm

I think a piece is missing here. Daniel thought he had the upper-hand, OK, I get that, but he doesn’t seem the type to commit actual money for a retractable pitch without a guarantee.

I remember in the TV series ‘Hustle’, he chief of the con gang saying, “you can’t hustle an honest man, only a greedy one.”

I get the feeling Daniel has been placed in a position where he’ll be forced to grovel to his American buddies. As planned by them.

    • Freund or Foe April 27, 2018 at 11:09 pm

Sorry, I’m failing to understand. Why did they give him a 10 year, 2 game a season contract if he’s treated them so bloody awfully? They’ve got other venues in London that are already in use, Wembley and Twickenham, let alone all the other stadia across the country. And contributed to the build cost too. Only a little, but contributed. Why on earth would they do this if he’s been such a prick? Did he have a gun? Saucy pictures? They give him a 10 year contract, but are leading him up the garden path. It all makes perfect sense.

      • Freund or Foe April 27, 2018 at 11:15 pm

What Harold is saying, is that Levy didn’t come home with a franchise. They blew him out, he couldn’t secure it, and they gave him some crumbs. You only need to look at the posts from the previous blog to see how difficult it is to have a brand new UK franchise, NFL commissioner himself said “its still a ways off”.

I agree it won’t happen immediately, but a couple of things: there would have to be a change to the agreement the NFL has with the players to base a team overseas. The current agreement expires in 2020. And the NFL has never shown any qualms about moving a team if there is a better deal to be had. St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland have all been cleared for moves recently. If the dollars stack up and the players agree, it could happen sooner than you think.

And when you want to expand your sport, you move franchises from one place to another? Granted, the new venues might be more lucrative, but is that a feasible long term plan?

Let alone the damage it will do to existing US fan base.

Sometime I’ll tell you about the Sonics moving to Oklahoma City 🙁

                  Did it work out bad?

                    Ah. I see now.

City in melt down. It was ugly. And that was basketball. If the Seahawks ever moved there’d be riots

To be fair, Jacksonville don’t seem quite so passionate.

Well, teams have been moving here for 30 years or so. In all sports. Like I said, moving a team wouldn’t scare them

From one area code to another maybe,to the other side of the world is a different kettle of fish

                • SeattleSpursGuy April 27, 2018 at 11:58 pm

Why? It’s 4,000 miles give or take from Florida to London and teams make the 3,000 mile coast to coast trip all the time.

      • Nick April 27, 2018 at 11:51 pm

Contribute? £1m wasn’t it? That’s like when the Sally Army come round the pub rattling the tin & selling the war cry,it’s not a contribution your giving them is it?

10mil Nick. But come on, you must have more than that?

‘A 10 year deal’ description suggests something chunky. This is not chunky, it is mediocre.

Levy’s pitch was that the NWHL was to be THE NFL destination in London. The purpose built home from Home.

The NFL basically said, sure we’d be daft not to use it. And gave him a whole 2 games pa.

They will also be using Wembley and other venues none of whom were so f*cking daft as to waste time and money making purpose built facilities!

My crowing over this is purely based upon the elaborate expense dick breath has gone to, plastering the NFL logo all over his brochures etc.

        A retractable pitch!
