Is ENIC’s New Destinationβ„’ going to open in time?

On June 14th, theΒ Premier League announce their full fixture list for the 2018-19 season – but as fans know, that list is NOT generated by tapping a button at teatime on the 13th.

Complex consultations need to take place amongst a number agencies – including the police – before an approved list can finally be published.

The proposed opening NFL game – at the still frantically under construction arena – is scheduled for the for the 14th of October.

Again, this is not the cut off date either.

The NFL will want to market the spectacle effectively, and so a campaign and all the required publicity materials will need to be prepared.

In short, Daniel Levy’s plate spinning act is becoming a tortuous watch.

Pressing Gladys for an update on incoming targets, I was basically told, ‘You’re kidding, aren’t you?!’

The entire thrust if of THFC’s efforts is around the stadium.

Anything player related that has been seen to since the season’s close was I am told, because it was business that didn’t requite Daniel to be disturbed.

This puts the Pochettino line of ‘the club needs to be brave’ into stark relief.Β

The football side of the business is well and truly on hold and a repeat of Levy’s usual game of last minute ‘chicken’ in the transfer window looks inevitable.

As Levy drowns in the minutiae of stadium business, he’s staring at a number of clocks …all running down on him.

Not only has Levy the Premier League and the NFL to placate, but a fanbase who want assurances that the team is going to be genuinely reinforced.

To date, the only thing that has been confirmed is a state of inertia.

The transfer window this summer has already had several weeks shaved from it.

Premier League clubs voted to close business on the 9th of August opposed to the 31st.

Time is not Mr Levy’s friend.

Maybe pep gladiola from citeh to madrid????
I think this means Gareth bale will be staying at Madrid

    • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 12:38 pm

This will have a huge say on if Bale stays. I think this means Gareth will extend his stay there.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? May 31, 2018 at 12:18 pm

Club on the brink? Absolutely. Well played Levy you utter dosser. Imagine Kane hadn’t come through?? This man is lucky Poch and the magic 12 have performed miracles and 2 big rivals have fell off a cliff. Time indeed is running out. You cannot run a club like this. Right royal brassy tart of a fuck up.

    • knowitall May 31, 2018 at 12:28 pm

Club on the brink HAHAHAHA yes lets do what Leeds done oh wait a minute what happened to them mmmmm

Got nothing to do with leeds

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? May 31, 2018 at 12:52 pm

Why does everyone mention Leeds? You may as well say “oh let’s do a SeaWorld” that’s how irrelevant it is.

Chelsea have announced their new stadium development is
to be put on hold. Time to use new WHL to stick it to their
revenue stream while this and Romans’ UK residency are up in
        the air.

        • Ronan May 31, 2018 at 5:14 pm

Chelsea will redploy the billion they were going to spend on this new stadium on buying and paying top quality players instead. That’s what all our rivals will be doing over the next decade.

  • Camus May 31, 2018 at 12:12 pm

    With Zidane gone, surely it’s Klopp’s moment…?

    • Andrew May 31, 2018 at 12:13 pm

Yes please klopp. Stay away from poch.

      • Camus May 31, 2018 at 12:14 pm

        Poch has just signed a 5-year deal…

        • Andrew May 31, 2018 at 12:17 pm

Yes, all it means is the fee payable by Madrid will be higher.
But I actually think Madrid will probably go after another manager for a year, and come back for poch in a year.

          • Camus May 31, 2018 at 12:18 pm

            Klopp or Low, I’d expect.

            • Andrew May 31, 2018 at 12:21 pm

Between cheatski and madrid, every manager will have had a job either club.

If zidane gets sacked, I hope he gives Perez a right hook

  • Andrew May 31, 2018 at 12:06 pm

Zidane has called a news conference in a few minutes.
Quickly, someone put poch in a room with no tv ,radio and take his mobile off him.
I could be worrying for nothing, but why would zidane call a conference????

    • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 12:08 pm

It’s in the public domain that spurs received Β£143m the season just gone from tv, cl and getting 3rd place in the pl.

    https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-pocket-jawdropping-143m-windfall-theres-no-excuse-now-for-levy-to-hold-back/

So why are we being conditioned, yet again, that top players like toby and the moose must be sold before levy can buy? Even when poch keeps reiterating the importance of getting new arrivals in early so they can adapt to his requirements and get a proper preseason.

    • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 12:03 pm

      • Ronan May 31, 2018 at 12:11 pm

I dont think thats right, Ron. Lewis has long been regarded as one of the biggest gamblers around in the field of currency trading. That’s how he became a billionaire. One of his best buddies is the professional gambler JP McManus and he regularly bets huge sums on holes of golf . Spurs seems to be the only area of his business empire where he wont speculate to accumulate.

    • Andrew May 31, 2018 at 12:09 pm

The excuse will be there wasn’t enough time to get deals done.

There`s a little matter of a Billion pounds for the stadium so badly needed so that in time they may well be able to compete !!!

  • Paddio May 31, 2018 at 11:45 am

Harry is the poster boy, wouldn’t expect any superstar signings

  • Paddio May 31, 2018 at 11:44 am

The rabbit up levy’s sleeve is that he will look to complete a raft of new contracts to key players with the fanfare it’s as good as a new signing (inc concessions to Toby on contract length). Leaving that we will only buy one maybe two 1st teamer with the the spin that we bought Luca really for this season in mind.

  • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 11:41 am

As usual any incomings will depend on outgoings.
And with Levys policy of squeezing every last penny out of a deal any transfers of any worth will be dragged out to the point of either scraping through or falling apart for us to sign dross like Sissoko and appeasement signings that fans only realise were just this after they’ve played about 3 games and shown their ineptness.
This is what we were all hoping Poch was talking about when he talked about taking risks etc.
THIS window really is the make or break window.
Any of the top 6 teams that don’t go big this year will be left to fight for a Europa place, new stadium or no new stadium.

    • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 11:46 am

How do you explain that Levy bought 7 players with the Bale money. What happened there?

If you add up what our players are worth that is a much better sign than adding up what they cost and how Levy does business.

Add in to it one of the best managers in the league is in with it

      Add into is the stadium.

Its a real fucking disaster isnt it?

      • Paddio May 31, 2018 at 11:57 am

        It’s not at present but
Watching us in 3rd round of fa cup vs say forest green getting to see sissoko, llorente and the like in the squad won’t sell 62000 seats esp if we are fighting for 6th in the league,

        • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 11:59 am

Are you a defeatist? You are dreaming man. 3 years running we have reached 3rd place. Ok we havent won a pot but Levy is keeping all the players we have and we will be buying more. This is one of the best times to be a Tottenham supporter not the worst.

          • Paddio May 31, 2018 at 12:02 pm

No, put a sight of the promised land of winning something it feels we are loosing sight.
The new stadium is having β€˜the game is about glory’ tiled on it and we shouldn’t loose that focus as priority

            • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 12:07 pm

Thats exciting. All footie supporters love in hope and thats not unreasonable to want. We all want that.
But the reality of the club is the reality and it does depend a bit on what Poch demands and what he accepts as well.
But so far if we keep our best players and buy a couple of players that could help I think we are doing ok.

              .

          • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 12:11 pm

Hes not keeping all of the players Ron. Walker went and we didn’t effectively replace him.
Toby is our captain in all but name. He was the Ledley figure that when he was on the team sheet it was very rare that we were drubbed.
If he loses such a key player then its sending out all the wrong messages.
This year we’re lucky in that a lot of the boys want to play in the new stadium and be a part of history.
I have no doubt that if we weren’t going into the new WHL this year then Eriksen would be off. Im sure he will be next summer if we don’t step up this year.
Yes its a great time for the club and as a supporter. however we’ve seen how quickly a team can sink badk down and we ALL know what its like there.
Thats why people aren’t happy. Unless you demand more then you’ll never make that final step.
Do you think Bill Nich would’ve settled for anything but the best and still been unhappy?
            Damn straight he wouldn’t
Poch has the right mindset and skillset, fantastic manger… in the making.
He needs to be backed properly, no half measures.
Levy needs to step up and realise what he has in place before it walks out the door next year.

            • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 12:28 pm

Football is a whole different world now Ron.

Levys no fool but ultimately he will sacrifice on the field success for a healthy balance sheet.

He’s a master at the carrot on the end of a string game.

He’ll give enough to see the money coming in but only so many plates can be spun before they come crashing down.

Everything has been done right thus far on the finances we have.
No though is the time to SECURE that future by some shrewd signings not punts or consolation singings.
A few well invested signings that don’t all have a ‘sell on’ value.
The value of signing someone like Bale would be in projecting the club into the elite and pulling ourselves up shoulder to shoulder with the serious contenders.
3 seasons in a row is great but to maintain this we have to grow and change.
This squad has hit a ceiling.

              • Paddio May 31, 2018 at 1:28 pm

The only way to push that ceiling is mindset but this needs new players better than we have (one or two astute signings could do this) and who makes the players think wow we’ve got him in our team and players getting wages respective to the clubs ambitions
Legacy comes from getting that young talent that we blood in to maintain sucess

    • John bogle May 31, 2018 at 11:49 am

Poch did go back on his words when he accepted we could not compete regarding finances with the big spenders,he said we have to be smarter.

  • John bogle May 31, 2018 at 11:31 am

I have said before that Poch and Levy are a double act. They often rehearse at DL house. The fact of the transfer window closing earlier Will actually play into the hands of Levy, there will always be a mad rush and that old saying about keeping your head when everyone is losing theirs come into play. He will be in his usual position of strength, ready to manipulate any opportunities. Also consider the savings of not starting to pay that extra one month wages to the incoming players.

    • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 11:40 am

To sell tickets they have to create some kind of buzz.
So dont worry that will be coming.
Nothings perfect though. But you are right that Poch is in with whatever it is. A week after his statement he made a deal for himself

  • QQ May 31, 2018 at 11:17 am

Some supporters believe the first home game at new WHL
will be the first weekend in September, giving all of August for the club
to iron out any issues and avoid PR disasters akin to Heathrow terminal 5.

    Seems a quite sensible approach.

    • Simon Wise May 31, 2018 at 11:25 am

Saw it last weekend and it looks a long way from done. Still putting the roof and cladding on before we think about the interior fit-out. If it’s ready for Oct 1st that means H&S licence in Sept and test events late Aug, early Sept…. June, July, August… 12 – 14 weeks left…. Squeaky bum time.

“Only two things I know about construction. It takes longer and costs more than you expect”

      • marsinho May 31, 2018 at 11:32 am

They’l get it done the pitch roof glass panels and all but it’s just the matter of safety and security issues to pass for it to open for bussiness………..wembley?

      • QQ May 31, 2018 at 11:33 am

Thing about the interior stuff is that there are no livecams in there,
and you have been able to see very little from the outside (even less
now the facade glasswork/panelling has been going up) .

Could be going great. could be in grief.

          • Ronwol1960-61πŸ•Žβš½πŸŽ·πŸŽ₯ May 31, 2018 at 11:24 am

I am thankful we have Levy. Im not happy that we are not United or Chelsea or City but he has bought well generally.

            Do you buy stuff?

            Where do you buy stuff?

I like nice things but generally dont buy in Harrods or Harvey Nicks type shops. I find good gear though.

We could be the 16 or 18 teams worse than us. I think we are building not just the stadium, but something on the footie field. You are stuck mate.

Poch’s pre-season could destroy him. But he could still get a job as a fanbassador I suppose.

  • Panama Paul May 31, 2018 at 10:50 am

Levy’s probably broken out in a cold sweat over the fact the transfer window is 3 weeks shorter. Doesn’t leave much time for his usual tactics. Still it means we get to be disappointed 3 weeks earlier than usual.

Yep, the ’11th hour’ pantomime sure to continue, the weirdo just cant’t help himself.

  • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 10:38 am

    Im not panicking too much.
Not much business is going to be done pre-world cup.
Players are on their hols or preparing for the tournament.
Some international players won’t want to move beforehand, both players and clubs will be hoping that the tournament will see their stock rise.
    It happens every tournament year.
The list of Pochs targets will be already drawn up.
What happens with it, and when, is another thing.

    • Harry Hotspur May 31, 2018 at 10:54 am

After the World Cup will the bald weirdo with plenty of time, however – and this is big however – that time will be devalued because that’s precisely when every other fucker will shopping and negotiating.

      • Panama Paul May 31, 2018 at 10:57 am

His little head will probably explode – tick tock tick tock – zero hour is fast approaching.

        • East Stand May 31, 2018 at 11:01 am

Any player who’s has a storming World Cup will not be approached, ones that did ok that you can pass as “he’s an international who played at the World Cup” and didn’t get player rating of under 6.00 will be pursued like a fly around shit…

          • Panama Paul May 31, 2018 at 11:05 am

Which may be why the players we are allegedly looking at aren’t involved in the World Cup. Their prices will be a bit more stable. All will be revealed (or not).

            • East Stand May 31, 2018 at 11:10 am

              Probably right there Panny

      • TopOfThePochs May 31, 2018 at 11:06 am

I’d suggest that if we’ve not secured our targets before the WC starts we will be fishing in the 2nd and 3rd choice pools as the prices of the big fish will be beyond Levys budget.
If Poch is happy with this then more fool him.
This year the game is up on winging it to achieve top 4.
        Only serious contenders need apply.

        • Panama Paul May 31, 2018 at 11:09 am

There might be a Brazilian tied up in a sack somewhere in Hotspur Way and Levy’s hoping they won’t notice till after the WC. Get him in at a knock-down rate because he didn’t feature at the tournament.

Which people tend not to remember – went into liquidation

        • QQ May 31, 2018 at 11:12 am

On his watch (a la Phillip Green) , or had he long sold up when it was
          a profitable going concern ??

I remember the stores closing! It wasn’t run by Daniel, it was his father’s gig.

Long story short, in the late 80’s I got the nicest ‘fuck off’ in my life from his dad.

My boss and I tried to sell Byrite denims/jeans/shirts etc made in a Lee franchise factory in Colombia.

Alas Byrite were paying wholesale at the time what we were buying them in from the factory for. But we were commended for getting them landed in the UK at that price.

We were only in with them for 20 minutes or so, but it was a 100% positive experience because it was eyeopening.

That is a fact, however if as some of you idiots want to spend money the club clearly do not have so will spurs

I think it’s already been suggested but maybe Poch’s presser was all a bit of an act when in reality he’s happy to toe the line and come off a hero by achieving top 3 for 3 consecutive seasons under Enic’s restrictions.

I think he really wanted top 4 which explains him looking nervy the last couple of games, but he’s been rewarded with a bumper contract and p’raps he’s happy with that…

Then he and Levy are taking the piss out of the fans.

And then bottling it and selling it as craft beer.

      • East Stand May 31, 2018 at 11:17 am

I’m not sure, when he said that the club need to be “brave’ in the transfer market and also saying “I’m not sure if they agree with me or not” seems to put the ball into Levy’s court a bit too much to suggest that Poch might be 100% complicit with the seventh spend…

This is why Daniel should stick to choosing plates and napkins for the cheese room and different types of handles for the doors, leaving Poch and his team to do the football business. Hasn’t he ever heard of delegation????

    • gus May 31, 2018 at 10:01 am

It’s a billion dollar football club, not a stall at Camden market!!

      • Harry Hotspur May 31, 2018 at 10:06 am

This is why we’ve been linked with nobody for weeks – aside from some industrial recycling on the same 3 players.

        We’re not open for business.

        • Gus May 31, 2018 at 10:20 am

The only consolation is we haven’t shipped any of our best out the door. Yet.

          • Harry Hotspur May 31, 2018 at 10:50 am

One of the benefits of not doing anything at all is of course that you can make fewer mistakes.

So true. Like the old adage says, Better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to open the mouth and remove all doubt.
