One thing that we learned in the last window is that transfer deals do not ‘suddenly happen’ during the demarcated weeks of frenzy.

Talks sometimes smoulder on for months, with the broader brushstrokes being put in place before we get to closer to the deadline process when the hijinks really begin, the agents begin their dance trying to drum up additional suitors etc.

Gladys tells me that there is no sign of the transfer fee bubble bursting anytime soon.

Any of you lost souls still opining ‘the Spurs way’; that fantasy where the FFP doesn’t really exist and THFC pay the players in Action Man Stars (one for the dads), marbles, Curlywurlies and free cinema tickets are in for more cold does of reality whereby wages continue to rise and fees spiral ever upward.

Manchester City are prepared to pay 拢60million plus Fabian Delph to secure the services of Eric Dier.

23 year old Dier has been linked with Manchester United before this morning, but not City.

Pep wants to sign Dier in January (he likes to get deals over the line as soon quickly as possible as per the Bonzo business) however Glad believes that the soonest Poch would deal is next summer.

The bottom line here is that Dier is not seen by Spurs as unsellable or irreplaceable.

I still couldn’t tell you what he does for us and it would be a ‘yes’ to a Manchester City move from me.

    Not at any price:

    1. We should not be seen as a selling club
    2. We should not be aiding our rivals in any way, shape or form
    3. Mourinho AND Pep are not usually that wide of the mark: do we really want to lose a player valued that highly?
    4. What would it cost to replace him (a known quantity) bearing in mind his age, versatility and his preparedness to be a “team player” with that versatility….?
    5. His “matiness” with players like Alli and Kane: set a sprat to catch a mackerel anyone?

The man is committed, popular, young, strong and tends to not like taking too many prisoners – maybe this would not be the sort of man really in his element when Fergie trotted out “its only Spurs”, but he is now – our element has changed and he’s been a part of that change.

The dynamics of any squad are far more about the whole than the sum of the parts and changing a player may have greater consequences on that squad dynamic than just an empty set on the bus.

Bugger the price, keep “the project” moving forward.

city are looking alot stronger with bonzo…. would hate to see dier there too… eric is still young and the best english player there is in that cdm role…. definitly suicide selling our best players to the best teams….. hard one to replace dier is… hes often doing the dirty work for us…. been afraid of this ever since bonzo gone and rose piped up…. the dominoe effect….. its these young english yiddoes who have given us identity and taken us to the next level… we cant be selling them all now please no… pay everyone what theyre worth and keep on building… just when everyone was banging on that we’re not a selling club anymore… we start to sell ou core

Agree that I’d probably take the dough, although he did have his most consistent game in quite a while for us at the weekend.

Maybe I’m reading into body language a bit too much, but I fear Dele’s time with us is nearing a close. Seems very frustrated at the moment, and if Dier goes, I don’t think he’d be far behind.

    • Chi Y-Word October 2, 2017 at 9:11 am

Plus Delph was/can be quality. Shame he put a hiatus on his career by chasing the cash.

Pep has taken a subtle dig at Jose ( Gary line her interview) and Poch (more established prem managers) in the space of one week.. Because he is too of the table after 6/7 games…Lol he is more shallow minded and fearful than I thought

  • Vincent Tan October 2, 2017 at 1:55 am

I like dier. He can play in more than 1 position. Dier, wanyama and dembele can then be partnered differently for different synergy against various opponents.

If Pok is happy to see him sold for 60 and whoever, then that’s good enough for me.

  • Spursy October 1, 2017 at 10:25 pm

Seems to me these clubs want to buy Dier to lay the foundations for a bid for Dele in the future. No way Utd or City ‘need’ Dier outright for the sum he’d cost… thoughts?

  • Spurriergate October 1, 2017 at 8:29 pm

As a long time supporter , 50 yrs plus (and Jennings is still the best keeper I’ve ever seen) are we losing track of what it is to be a Spurs fan ? We have a fantastic new home, on our old site. Traditionally we have never competed with the monied clubs, but we’ve always played football. Why do fans moan ? Can’t they remember when we were ecstatic with a win, not viewing it as a forgone result. We cannot compete with the mega monied clubs.
I follow a great club who on their day are magnificent. That will do for me.

Eric ’48 games in our best season for 50 years’ Dier should be benched?

I am of 2 minds about selling Dier for 60 mill plus Delph. Delph is a very good player and sometimes Dier is dire but he seems to be part of the success of our team and I wouldn’t want to muck around with that

    • McG 鈿解毥 October 1, 2017 at 3:18 pm

Everton have no real midfield…Williams is a major liability for them

    • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 3:12 pm

Koeman needs time. It takes time to find the players that believe in his philosophy, some players will need shifting and new ones brought in. We know that with Poch.

      • Syd October 1, 2017 at 3:13 pm

I thought thats what they did…..i do agree they need time but at the moment they look lost

  • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 2:52 pm

Everton spending 拢100 mill does not bring them closer to the top five/six clubs. We know that, but they thought they had arrived as a major club. If you want to buy success ,it won’t happen in one season, you need to spend minimum 拢 100 mill every transfer window like shitty and cheatski.

    • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:55 pm

Maybe not in the first season
Lukako now is getting the benefit of so many expensive players all around him

      • gloster1861 October 1, 2017 at 3:27 pm

Plus playing against the bottom half teams helped. Lukaku isn’t special. Stoke stopped ManUre, so will we and the other top teams.

    • McG 鈿解毥 October 1, 2017 at 2:59 pm

  • Matt October 1, 2017 at 2:41 pm

Reports Rose will be 鈥渕aking his comeback鈥 against Madrid. Does anyone, except maybe Rose, think he鈥檒l displace Davies? I don鈥檛. Good rotation option but I think Davies has leapfrogged him both defensively and in attack.

    • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:43 pm

A good indication of what happens if you sell your best players & throw money at names

      • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:42 pm

First of all their season isnt over.It does take time to especially when you have a manager with a system.
And selling and buying is part of the business. You try and trade up

    • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:40 pm

      They spent 100 Mil

      • SpurAndy 馃崚蟺 October 1, 2017 at 2:45 pm

But they sold Lukaku, so near net spend. Any manager who thinks bringing in a large volume of players is the answer needs counselling.

        • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:49 pm

Its not over yet with Everton. Any system takes time as players have to think about what they are doing rather than instinctively doing it

  • Nick October 1, 2017 at 2:36 pm

So pep calls us the Harry Kane team eh,he should concentrate on getting his team of money grabbing mercenaries to play for a whole campaign rather than trying to undermine.having shown we are reliant on no one over the last couple of seasons, one thinks he should keep his mouth shut.He is under huge pressure this season to achieve or he will be gone

    • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 2:46 pm

Pep is a dick head. I would love to have a conversation with him, Jose and conte.

      • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:51 pm

Why is he a dick head? He is a brilliant manager.Proven.

        • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 2:57 pm

Proven with mega money. Barca was the team he inherited , probably the best team ever. At bayern he didn’t get close to winning champs league, but had the best team in germany. I wonder how good he would be if he couldn’t spend 拢200 mill this summer?

          • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 2:59 pm

Who knows but managing egos takes something special too and getting the respect from the players takes something. City look brilliant now as it seems Pep has created a style based both on the Bayern/Barca model mixed with a lot of what Poch does..pressing high line etc

            • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 3:06 pm

It is a lot easier to manage ego’s ,when they earn huge amounts in wages. The city players are there mostly for the cash, having pep and his reputation is a bonus. Do you think they would leave if pep was to leave? The players may have some respect for him but they respect cash more.c

              • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 3:11 pm

Are you saying its just about the money. Is the money not fair reward in their minds to being a great player? Just rewards for what they have done previously?
Its not just about money but great managers can ask for exactly what they want beacuse they have earned that right. In the chicken or the egg scenerio at some point that proved themselves

                • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 3:12 pm

                  *they

                • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 3:21 pm

It is mostly about money. Very few of the players city have now would have joined them if the wages were a lot less. Do you think they joined because of pep or the wages?? 拢75 k per week and pep or 拢200 k per week and any manager ??
They would always go for the most wages and don’t forget the agent’s input into deals.

                  • SpurAndy 馃崚蟺 October 1, 2017 at 3:32 pm

I think you’re right and that’s because that’s what I would do and sign for the money even if Hedgehodgerson was managing. Money only becomes secondary when you’ve got as much as you’ll ever need, for 95%+ of the population that is.

                    • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 3:46 pm

  • Blanchflower October 1, 2017 at 12:59 pm

Dier does a lot. His interceptions and breaking up of play is excellent, as well as the versatility to drop into a defensive unit when required is his greatest gift. Ali on the other hand, has spells in a season where he Gareth Bales out of nothing, but I for one would rather see the effort of Son in every game than wait for the random little bits of magic from Dele.

  • Scott October 1, 2017 at 12:44 pm

H, I have to disagree with this one. Dier gets through a lot of the dirty work, for the 30 odd years I have followed Spurs, we have always been seen to have an underbelly akin to a fish. We have a toughness about us now. I wouldn’t want to play around with that. Also, what do we get for our 拢60m as fans?? (Delph aside) it’s not like we all see a rebate in our accounts.
Apart from that, it’s a poor message to send out that we are prepared to sell. I firmly believe that Walker was sold as Poch wanted it that way. If Poch wants to sell Dier then I’m sure it will happen in its own time.

Something else that is searing a stain on my soul is the relentless comments I am hearing in the stands from our own, last week at Wet Spam and again yesterday was people commenting on Dele giving us nothing and fans getting on his back. -Absolutely ridiculous!!

Careful what you wish for Spurs fans. Dele is a genius, let’s get things into perspective here, the guy is 21, already banging in goals for fun, minor slump in his standards? Maybe, dodgy dive? Maybe, nothing Ronaldo hasn’t done a time or two!

Leave off the lad, he needs a cuddle that’s all, keep the faith or look forward to the dark old days coming back. 6 PL away wins in a row, not been seen previously in my lifetime.

Enjoy, support the team and be thankful. I reckon I could name at least 90 league teams who would swap squads with us in a heartbeat

Comments like that reflect poorly on Pep and are hugely disrespectful to the rest of the squad and Pooch. They also say a huge amount about the stature of the club he manages. The reality is that Pep, Mourinho and Conte only ever manage teams where they can spend huge amounts to buy in top quality players and pay them extraordinary amounts of wonga as salaries.Spurs have always been the team knocking on the door of the cushdie status quo and as such these managers see Pooch as a threat as he is delivering results on a fraction of those costs and that clearly makes them all feel uncomfortable as I suspect their owners look at Spurs and say why can’t they manage on that type of budget. Ferguson always used to cherry-pick our best players as a way of pushing us back down the pecking order. Recently it has been Real Madrid. Now Man City are the predators along with the Mancs as always. There is no doubt that all these comments and talk of salaries on the table unsettle the squad and I would have to say that it has affected the team morale as I don’t get the sense of togetherness that we have had in recent seasons and the goal celebrations are a lot more muted than they used to be. If Pooch starts winning titles and trophies whilst maintaining the same approach that will increase the pressure on these other so called “top” managers. I suspect they are all worrying that when our new stadium opens its doors we are going to look even more like a real top club around the world. Our problem is whether Levy will ever adopt a policy of paying market rates for and to players so we can attract and retain them.

    • gloster1861 October 1, 2017 at 12:38 pm

The wages issue was discussed here during the summer. Apparently Levy enhances basic wages with decent win bonus packages. Its more payment by results.

      • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 12:43 pm

I love that idea Glos. Its the way every player should be paid.

        • gloster1861 October 1, 2017 at 12:44 pm

An agent said Levy isn’t that far off the mark when everything is totted up, but its far more sophisticated than simple basic wages at Spurs.

          • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 12:46 pm

It would stop players fucking about. They would have to work and get Mega of they succeed but a good basic too

    • Andreas October 1, 2017 at 12:42 pm

You made some good points, the most important being about levy and paying the going rate on wages. I hope he doesn’t rely on poch to create miracles every season and hopes to replace our top players with cheap young players .

  • UnkleTaff October 1, 2017 at 12:31 pm

So, after yesterday’s results, Man U have now played seven of the bottom nine teams in the league.

They were most fortunate to beat Southampton (12th) the other week and only managed to scrape a draw against Stoke (13th).

Contrast this with City, who won at the Fridge yesterday and tonked Liverpool indoors earlier in the season.

You can only beat what’s put in front of you, I know, but I’m reserving judgement on Utd until I’ve seen them play someone who’s at least half decent.

    • McG 鈿解毥 October 1, 2017 at 12:40 pm

Exactly, Dips away next. Lets hope us playing Real so close don’t throw a spanner in the works, altho they play CL Tues, us Wed. Benfica beating them at home a week or 2 before would work well for us…

    • gloster1861 October 1, 2017 at 12:40 pm

Spot on Unk. Maureen is the medja darling just now but when they cone up against some decent sides:

      B. Lukaku will stop scoring.

We’ve got the new Greaves and he’s even more attached to Spurs than the original Greaves. None of them like it.

                    • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 12:39 pm

That Greaves point you mean Kane,is even more reason for a midfielder to come to Tottenham.
And the points about Greaves was about that at the time it was a buy that was tremendous, that showed Tottenham had power.

                  • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 12:37 pm

The team and club of today wasnt the team or club of Modrics time. The stadium,Poch, our results are all being seen around the league. We beat Dortmund and we have a good plan that can only get better. Players will start warming up to us more and Levy will soon start spending more as the Stadium nears. He knows we would have to fill it

                    • Ronan October 1, 2017 at 12:45 pm

Yes, we’re definitely getting there. New stadium will be a huge statement in itself. But let’s keep all our gems if we can. Did you see walks’ performance last night?

                    • ronwol196061 October 1, 2017 at 12:50 pm

Yes Walker was tremendous one of their best yesterday but many Spurs players in that situation would grow. They are a powerful lot with a brilliant seasoned manager. But look we are not about them,we are about upgrading ourselves and Aurier and Sanchez (for me especially Sanchez) was a great deal for the money

We will get there soon. We will pay higher wages. Eventually we will really be competing because its the only way going forward at least to buy the type of player we need.

As usual, he gave us a few flashes of skill and also a now becoming all too predictable, moment of stupidity and in the context of a won game, totally uneccessary yellow.

  • McG鈿解毥寞 October 1, 2017 at 11:26 am

Wouldn’t sell to Mancs, now all of a sudden we selling our only fit DM to Citeh in Jan?! Righto, ain’t happening!!

  • SpurAndy 馃崚蟺 October 1, 2017 at 11:15 am

If we got Silva, Aguero, De Bruyne in return I’d think about it.

    • McG鈿解毥寞 October 1, 2017 at 11:20 am

      Jesus Andy!

      • SpurAndy 馃崚蟺 October 1, 2017 at 11:39 am

Yeah maybe a bit optimistic. OK how about Silva, Jesus, De Bruyne?

        • The Boy SPURTSpur 馃拫 October 1, 2017 at 11:45 am

          Jesus H Andy!

          • SpurAndy 馃崚蟺 October 1, 2017 at 11:47 am

NO, they’re definitely not getting Harry!

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? October 1, 2017 at 11:13 am

Yep he’s cover in a couple of positions which is important. But hey, why not!? Another one out the doors not going to make much difference. It can’t be January. Also can we get better in? Never mind that, there’s money to be made for enic.

  • OrganicPaper October 1, 2017 at 11:11 am

The erosion of yet more English talent from our squad would be a big shame. I like Dire he ain’t a world class player but he has a decent attitude, can play very well in key areas and is improving IMO.
Losing him would be a backward step.

60mil is a lot of dosh but i dont rate delph in anywhere near the same league as Dier. It’s no like for like replacement.

I would be gutted to lose him to a PL rival too.
Shame we are still just a feeder club

    • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:15 am

Don’t think we are a ‘feeder’ club. Maybe Ajax are becoming one for us.

We might be selling our stars to rival top 6 sides in the future, but look at Chelsea selling Matic to Utd, Lampard to City, Van Persie to Utd. etc. Top 6 sides loathe to do business with each other, but that doesn’t mean they won’t for the right price.

      • OrganicPaper October 1, 2017 at 11:20 am

When our best players leave for rivals I can’t help but feel the feeder club tag becomes justified.
I’d be deeply upset if we lost Dier to city. I dream of the day we are linked with taking their best and brightest!

I know money talks and 60 mil is a lot. Unfortunately I could see this deal happening

      • The Boy SPURTSpur 馃拫 October 1, 2017 at 11:51 am

Lampard and Persie were way past their best days.

        • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:51 am

          Sterling then.

          • The Boy SPURTSpur 馃拫 October 1, 2017 at 12:04 pm

Sterling?! Pah! He’s just another Joe Cole. How these type of players are able to con vast sums of money out of clubs mystifies me.

        • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:55 am

Van Persie scored 26 goals in his first season at UTd.

          • McG 鈿解毥 October 1, 2017 at 12:01 pm

            Was still 29 weren’t he?

            • The Boy SPURTSpur 馃拫 October 1, 2017 at 12:06 pm

Yes, 26 goals is impressive but, even at 29 he was on the other side of the hill in descent. His career and bestdays were at Arsenal.

  • Sid Trotter October 1, 2017 at 11:07 am

Dier – he does a lot that isn’t flash and doesn’t steal the limelight – he is a tough engine running around breaking up play. Poch rates him enough clearly. Its who the upgrade will be.

    • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:09 am

If we could clone Wanyama I’d say definitely get rid.

Flirting with Andre ‘not good enough for Barca’ Gomes fills me with dread.

      Wouldn’t want Delph.

  • McG鈿解毥寞 October 1, 2017 at 10:51 am

Jeez, yeah, let’s sell em Rose too while we at it, just so we can ensure they win the league.

    • McG鈿解毥寞 October 1, 2017 at 11:00 am

His pass % is up 4 to 88% so far this season too. Plays best with Dembele, we need depth, him Wanyama, Dumbells, and Winks gives us that. Utility player too, no sell for me.

      • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:07 am

The fact he can slot anywhere into defence – particularly if a man gets sent off boosts his price no end.

But with Matic going for 拢40m it looks like we could reinvest the funds better elsewhere – we’d have to buy another defender…

        • McG鈿解毥寞 October 1, 2017 at 11:19 am

Matic 29, Dier 23. We’re supposed to be building a squad, all I ever hear about is our lack of depth, now it’s ok to sell our only fit DM lol. We need one AM, that’s all, the final piece of the jigsaw. Wouldn’t object t to another striker but we’re already nearing the point where we’ll struggle to keep players happy. The only way I’d consider letting Dier go is if we could guarantee Kovacic, and not sell to a PL rival.

    East Stand
Yes he did say 鈥渢he Harry Kane team鈥.
I鈥檓 getting rather bored of these gobby wankers like Jose and Pep being disrespectful towards other teams, Conte did it as well too, the point where Poch had to tell him to shut up.
These three manage the biggest budgets (by some way) and should in reality be riding off into the sunset as three man title race and perhaps they will but the way Conte and Guardiola find the need to start making digs at us is beyond me. Pressure perhaps that Poch is doing it with a far smaller budget?
Out of the three Conte is causing the least irritation but he鈥檚 becoming more so as time goes on but seems to do it out of fear and frustration in a typically Italian way.
I don鈥檛 like the way Guardiola comes across, he鈥檚 an arrogant prick just like Jose and I hope Poch chooses to remind him as he did to keep his juvenile little trap shut and show some respect.
Does anyone believe that Pep ever dreamt of managing City? He鈥檚 there for the money and his reputation is on the line but that doesn鈥檛 excuse him for behaving like a big kid. Complete prick鈥

Or perhaps it is a backhanded compliment? We are a very good side and any decent stricker would score for us, the fact that it is Kane in a Superman suite atm is likely why he would say something like that.

    • AccringtonSpurs October 1, 2017 at 11:05 am

The other managers see Tottenham as a threat. Simple as that.

  • David Dillenberg October 1, 2017 at 10:47 am

    I would accept the offer.

    • Harry Hotspur October 1, 2017 at 10:51 am

I’d swap him for Delph and a case of Erdn眉ss Flips

    • Sexy Beast October 1, 2017 at 10:52 am

Then again DD you are not the Tottenham manager, personally i think MP is doing a decent job and we should let him get on with it!
