Level 1 Completed But December Opening ‘Optimistic’

By The Boy -

Construction News are carrying multiple quotes this morning, despite security having been notably stepped up in recent weeks.

Progress is being made, but we’ve been told all that before.

“There has been a fair bit of pressure from the club to hit that [December] date,” one insider told CN. “The job has come a long way in the last couple of weeks, but the middle of December is pretty optimistic. Onsite people aren’t saying too much about the deadline, we’ve been given so many finishing dates it’s hard to get excited about the latest one.”

CN understands some areas of the ground have been handed over to the club, like level one where the pitch has been laid.

A source said: “The club’s in-house fit-out teams run those sections now and they’ve got tight security. Even the subbies that need to come in and work on the snagging have to get the right passes.”

CN understands that many of the contracts given to subcontracted staff run until December, although there are a significant number that are also working on a week-by-week basis.

“The thing with this job is that it only takes one incident to hamper progress – like a major leak or electrical problem,” a source told CN.

So fingers crossed nobody skydives off the roof into a generator with a bucket of water sun each hand.

The fundamental issues I have with the stadium are as follows:

  • There were no external demands for a bigger venue, only internal commercial ones.
  • The spiralling debt is not just alarming – by the time ENIC are sufficiently ahead financially – most of this squad will have moved on.

If anyone is capable of responding to these concerns in a succinct and cogent fashion, be my guest.

Kindly note I am not interested in your hopes, dreams or any other puerility you might mistakenly think is worth sharing here.
