Latest Bid IRO £45M

By The Boy -

Swansea have rejected a second bid from Everton for playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson, Press Association Sport understands.

The Welsh club turned down an offer for the Iceland international believed to be worth £40million from the Toffees earlier this month.

It is now thought Everton have tabled a new bid of around £40million with potential add-ons that could take a final package closer to £45million.

That, however, remains short of Swansea’s valuation of the player and the Liberty Stadium outfit are thought to be holding out for £50million.

Whilst Swansea have to be applauded – they are not duty bound to simply hand over to their best player – this latest update confirms that there are no upper limits to Premier League prices and that Siggy will not be wearing a Spurs shirt again anytime soon.

THFC agreed terms with the Icelander – we were in contact with Swansea and the player not long after the 2016/17 season began.

However Swansea City’s awareness of of market values put an end to any plans Levy had to snap the 27 year old up.

This is a defining non-transfer for Tottenham. Siggy has improved greatly and would undoubtedly be a brilliant addition to more or less any top flight club. This is a player that Pochettino wants. This is precisely the sort of no nonsense reinforcement that we need going into the self inflicted maelstrom of Wembley.

This deal can never happen because Levy doesn’t buy players in order to win things. He buys players to contribute as much as they humanly can to the business model before they are sold for a profit or in a worst case scenario without a net loss.

How much is Siggy worth?

Your start point to find the right number is to ask Swansea’s owners what it would have cost them had they been relegated.
