Pochettino was rightly delighted with Harry Kane’s landmark strike: “It is not important, (whether he meant to) cross or shoot – it was a goal for us.

“I’m happy that he has scored 100 goals for Tottenham. He deserves a lot of praise – congratulations to him. It is an unbelievable mark for him. I think it was a very solid performance.

“I think we played well, and fully deserved in the end the result and to take the three points. I’m very pleased. We have ahead a very busy period and this was a very important victory for us today.”

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman was asked where he ranked the 24-year-old internationally: “Maybe after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and Alexis Sanchez, and maybe one or two more, he is one of the best.

“Of course the first goal is a lucky one. I don’t think he was supposed to shoot the ball in the goal – I think it was a cross.

“But in his football he is really clever. He is using his body at the right time, his movements, his finishing. He is a top striker.”

One team sits while the other team raids. This is more like a game of Kabbadi.

Smeltzer & bartra to miss CL game due to injury. Seems good to me

HH – on previous blog I was agreeing about Dele’s performance, just simply think that’s what Dele does. Poor passing and possession stats compared to anyone else, lots of attempts at things that don’t come off. When things do come off he gets goals and creates chances, when they don’t you wonder what the point of him is. At least three times last season I was sat down watching and moaning about Dele doing nothing he suddenly scored. However, unlike similar players in other teams, even when he’s contributing nothing going forward he doesn’t stop running – both for balls over the top and into channels but also tracking back to defend (just like everybody else in Poch’s team does).

I think there’s a glimmer of hope there with Sissy, missed a couple of golden opportunities (would have done him good to score) but got himself into decent positions & worked quite hard. I’d say after yesterday, there’s a decent chance he’ll come good (not great, but a useful squad player if he can keep that up).

Good grief, a decent squad player aged 47 on £95,000 a week. Glad you’re not in charge, you’d by Cliff Richard and play him in goal.

My point was it looks like he’s here to stay, and if you’d asked me when the team was announced yesterday whether I expected us to blow Everton away, it would have been a big fat no. Instead, we played one of our best 60 minute spells in quite some time, managed to rest Dembele for Dortmund & also got to bring Eriksen off nice & early. The money we paid for him & wages irk, but making the best of a bad situation, if he stays I at least wana some application & improvement, yesterday I did. I’ll also add that I preferred what I saw from him over what I saw of Winks.

      Well that’s Winks f*cked then,worse than Sissoko.

It was Sissoko’s least bad ever performance for us. Tellingly he was played centrally for the first time which helps, that way mistimed first touches can became good balls into the channels. With him crashing about and Dele poncing about confusing the opposition the rest of the team clearly know what they are doing together.

Cheers, I had put Aurier in, but took him out at the very last moment!! Tripps done well, I think Sanchez in a back three frees him up a little, that and hopeully the rest from not playing the internationals helped. Thought he looked a lot better yesterday than in his last couple of matches..
