It’s time to give these players some belief.

By The Boy -

Dier said: “I think we still need to improve in all areas. We have never not said that. We still have a long way to go and we need to keep improving and working hard. There are lots of stuff we can still improve on.   We can’t just talk about it, we need to do it.”

Toby said: “Normally aggression and desire are our strengths so it’s difficult to explain. We have to learn from it which is easy to say but we have to see why and try to do it better next time.

“At half-time we discussed how they tried to put pressure on us and maybe we needed to go a bit longer and pick up the second balls and create problems there. We did that better [in the second half] but not as well as we normally play.”

Player quotes are a minefield – for the players. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

After all, it’s not their job to be media handlers and it’s inevitable that they will frustrate fans trying to gain an insight.

I take a view that Dier is being played out of position and this talk of him being a utility player has in fact cast him into the unenviable position of being tactically a tad homeless.

My concern with Toby is that this is Champions League grade player and that he of all players will need something more to comfort his ambitions than VIP access to a Cheese Room.

Now I know we have players all tied up on long contracts, but they aren’t hog-tied to anything and should doubt start to creep into the dressing room as it 100% has at West Ham, then Levy’s Lucky Lady Godiva tickets simply aren’t going to cut it.

This utterly meaningless away day to Gent is simply the beginning of a beyond tedious cavort that nobody in their right mind would take seriously.

What I’m saying here is that Poch needs to make it happen.

Sit down with Laughing Boy and get permission to go all out for the FA Cup.

Spurs are playing at Wembley next season and it’s the worst f——- decision since made by man since the first man tried to eat a raw chicken.

We will not, we can not scent our territory at Wembley by pursuing the Goose Chase that is the Europa League.

It’s time to give these players some belief.

No better way to motivate a man than to let him prove to himself what he’s capable of.

The time for talk is over.
