itk: How Levy Scuppered The Transfer

By The Boy -

We monitored Siggy seriously not long after he left us.

We first spoke to Swansea City months ago

We agreed detailed personal terms including wages etc with the player.

Then a darkness fell across the land.

Never underestimate the way Daniel Levy’s mind works.

Talking to Gladys about the Gylfi Sigurdsson and we should brace ourselves to watch Siggy sign for Everton.

Where the move fell down was our Sell On clause. What Levy sought to do was to turn this into a discount. I sh*t thee not.

Now I don’t claim to be as proficient in these matters as our beloved chairman, but would that sort of thing not fall within the gift of a Buy Back clause?

When a player you sell to someone else is sold on, the common understanding is that this would be to a third party. Not back to you. No? Yes? Hello?

Well that’s what Levy pulled here and once he’d put a number to it, the final offer for Siggy was £35million.

What I’m struggling with here are two things. One being that we wasted so much time on not signing another player, and two; this is another Poch pick that looks like it won’t happen.

Toffees boss Koeman told the press yesterday: “We are close [on Sigurdsson], we have to wait. But still, the deal is not done.”

You may not have wished to Sign return – that’s not being discussed here.

You may not believe that Siggy is worth anywhere near the amounts being mentioned – since THFC collected £50million for Bonzo – we have parity so money isn’t relevant either.

The point here is that this squad isn’t adequate for next season. That’s what’s being discussed here.
