he (Trump) is now officially the best Donald ever in US history, pushing Donald Duck down to second, Donald Osmand (known as Donny to his adoring fans) to third and Donald Sutherland out of the bronze medal position to 4th. Personally I would have him first for getting the kit of Julie Christie (not Linford) well and truly off in Don’t Look now.

    This is not a drill.

Harry I don’t know enough about North Korea. I know the basics.

But surely, this denuclearisation has come about precisely because Kim had been recently, publicly making a show of testing missiles and plumping its feathers up on the world stage. The US and South Korea appear to have been making counter-manouevres to put pressure on NK. This has been going on for years, right? But the testing of missiles for the world to see publicly, is much more recent.

A question is, this would have happened regardless of who was US head of state, yes?

      • Flynnbob June 13, 2018 at 8:58 am

The threat to Asia is so serious that Trump has agreed to cease all Activities with South Korea in exchange for denuclearization from North Korea.seeing as though Trumps word and signature means diddlysquat(Iran deal,Paris agreement)and Kim’s just as crazy and flippy flappy as his father ,what was achieved other than a nice photo op?

        • MiT June 13, 2018 at 9:30 am

I suspect that Kim has decided that China’s economic model is the way forward and has therefore binned the nukes to that end. He’s got better things to spend money on. For me, this isn’t down to Trump, it’s just a sensible change in tactics by North Korea.

Now if the Republican tit could properly resolve Ukraine, or Cyprus, or Taiwan, or Tibet, or Kashmir, or Kurdistan, or Ulster, or Palestine then he’d be worthy of recognition. All of these are more important than NK. Until then he’s just another right-wing fart.

  • East Stand June 13, 2018 at 1:45 am

‘This is as important as the Berlin Wall being torn down.’

Korea is a peninsula with a north south divide who hadn’t been getting along on political grounds for decades. Nobody pressed a button, it was a small and insignificant situation somewhere over near China.

The Berlin Wall coming down signified the end of the Cold War. All this signifies is the end (for now) of hostilities effectively within one country.

It’s dressed up to be significant but is it? Why? Nobody gave a crap about Korea and it was rarely on the news. Now one pissy country is all about World peace? How so?

The Koreans are just a pawn within the White House’s geo politics and a bit of window dress for Trump.

It’s like Levy signing Van Der Vaart, seemed like a big deal but it lead to nothing…

    • StuSpur June 13, 2018 at 2:11 am

      Ridiculous statement.
Having lived in south Korea and witnessed the geographical importance that particular country has along the Asian nautical trade routes. had it fallen into communist hands the economic stability of that region (encompassing Japan, Indonesia, Asia pacific) would have had a dramatic impact on countries that proposer in the region today.

      • StuSpur June 13, 2018 at 2:27 am

Improving relations between enemies is always a positive thing. It waits to be seen if Kim jong un will actually act on denuclearization, however if it leads to opening their borders and frees their enslaved people then a great good will have been achieved for this pissy country

      • Aussie in Switzerland June 13, 2018 at 4:08 am

    • Harry Hotspur June 13, 2018 at 8:21 am

North Korea has been firing out threats to wipe out most of its neighbors for decades, (Kim’s father was also nuts) I think most people were aware of this.

It’s over – or will be because such a seismic shift will take time – and it’s a historic thing.

  • Nick June 13, 2018 at 12:16 am

With rumours that Sporting Lisbon is in some kind of meltdown, Spurs have been inevitably linked to a number of their players who might want to force an exit:

    https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2018/04/06/sporting-cp-suspends-entire-first-team-squad-after-feud-with-team-president/

First Levy is linked to Grealish at troubled Villa, now this. He’s got a wonderful reputation. However, Sporting do turn out some cracking players from their academy and I wouldn’t mind Gelson Martins. Maybe Spurs should just stick with Ajax and Sporting products and forget the scouting.

Interesting to read the opposite ends of the spectrum on President Trump here. I suppose the honest question is at this point what he has to accomplish for the Left to give him some credit — or do you just simply find him too vile of a persona to be capable of any objectivity at this point ?

If I’m being blunt, it smells like fear to me. I mean, the rust belt states ARE going to vote for him again, you know. There is nothing wrong with taking on the establishment, OR the media. They are both too powerful. Things needed to come back to some semblance of balance.

Cheers all, and as you were.

I’m leftish and I can see that Trump is attempting to stick with his election promises. I might not like them but that at least is honest.

Obama spoke well and wanted to be buddies with all the world leaders, but did it amount to much? The comparison is stark, but when all is said and done it’s what they achieve for their people that counts, not how smooth they are.

They are one of the major players in the 21st century. One of the BRIC nations.

    Brazil, Russia, India, China.

Europe as the EU is busy organising their tariff walls and trying to swallow more countries in a desperate a attempt to protect themselves from becoming irrelevant. The UK needs to become a hub of high skills and specialists, you can’t compete in old industries.

Does it really matter what the new joint is called? As long as good money is paid and it isn’t too embarrassing of a company, I’m not too bothered. Bring on the Summer’s Eve Feminine Hygiene Products Arena.

    • Stevo1987 June 12, 2018 at 9:54 pm

Donald Trump stadium sounds good to me. ok not for some… 🙂

    • Stevo1987 June 12, 2018 at 10:02 pm

hmm… you are right about it not being a too embarrassing of a company. A sports brand is fairly neutral. i.e. Nike. I guess it will be foreign I can’t think of any British companies that have the clout. God forbid the Virgin …..doodah….

Too small in sense that America’s interests are global. Retreating from those interests just assures others fill the void.

It’s an old policy. Isolationism has been around for a long, long, time. George W Bush was accused of favouring it. Indeed, looking back at his election in 2000, you can see similarities on such matters as Kyoto and taxes:

          • Gloster1861 June 12, 2018 at 9:47 pm

Really? 64% of American citizens have no passports. So at least two thirds have never ventured outside their own borders.

            This is Trump territory.

  • Matt June 12, 2018 at 9:31 pm

I think Kim has got more out of this summit than Donald. A proper dictator who starves his population being treated with more respect than old allies. Not saying Don was wrong to try; but definitely a coup for Kim.

    • SeattleSpursGuy June 12, 2018 at 9:36 pm

The only ‘promise’ Kim made was to work toward denuclearization, which means absolutely nothing. No new verifiable commitments. No timetable. No definitions. At first I thought this was the equivalent of buying your high school sweetheart a promise ring, but it isn’t even that; it’s a promise that you might buy her a promise ring someday.

      • Matt June 12, 2018 at 9:46 pm

I agree, nothing committed. And you can imagine the news coverage that the North Koreans will be bombarded with. And the subtext will be, our nuclear arms bought the leader of the free world to the table.

      • Harry Hotspur June 12, 2018 at 9:47 pm

Except no other President has ‘promised’ to bomb NK back to the stone age.

You’re watching history unfold and saying ‘Yeah, whateves that is what the History Channel is for’.

Trump is 100% an unpleasant human being – but he’s killing it right now. Absolutely killing it.

        The ‘wahataboutery’ is embarrassing.

        • Gloster1861 June 12, 2018 at 9:52 pm

No one would have believed Obama would carry out threats. But The Donald? Yes, he’s effective because he’s scary.

    • Willie! June 12, 2018 at 9:52 pm

Kim Jong Un took Trump Dum Fuk to the cleaners. Dimwit Donnie gave massive concessions and received…nothing. A photo op for his ego. The orange clown is easily the worst president since Buchanan, making George W Bush look like Roosevelt by comparison. The only winners from this ongoing clusterfk are Xi and Putin.

Cutting out all the veneer and showmanship which is all part of his attraction IMO in extremely self confident charismatic Donald Trump we could possibly be talking about the greatest President of all time when like him or loathe him is not bad for a guy who had no political experience at all when he entered the Whitehouse!

    • Stevo1987 June 12, 2018 at 9:04 pm

At least he is attempting to do what he was elected for.

Nobel Peace Prize? He had a photo op with a dictator who committed to doing…nothing. For which Trump cancelled joint US-RoK military exercises, calling them provocative war games. I’m sure China is pleased, Dilly

It’s a tremendous quote and it makes Kim his country’s Jimmy Page.

North Korea can quote the POTUS saying flattering things about their boy.

                He flies home a hero.

They live pretty shit lives and now their boss has sat at the table of bosses.

North Koreans are now a respected nation.

His main goal in his campaign was to put home soil first. He has certainly put home soil first, sometimes to the dismay of other countries around him.

However, he is also bringing some honesty, forcing some honesty, back into the EU. Make no mistake, that’s a great thing. Give those boys too much power, and they will screw everybody over time.
