If Janssen Was A Dog The RSPCA Would Break The Car Window & Rescue Him

If Janssen Was A Dog The RSPCA Would Break The Car Window & Rescue Him

Vincent Janssen’s signing for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club wasn’t entirely his own fault.

It’s important not to lose sight of such matters when talking about a player in a manner that could be seen as vilifying.

Clearly the man had a CV, a career before he joined us.

That said, Vinny to Spurs hasn’t worked.

Oh and yes, this is a nasty, awful finite statement.

The poor guy is not a fit back up to Kane and this games against a 5th rate Aston Villa has proved that even a side like Villa wouldn’t view him as an obvious upgrade.

The January window is upon us.

Talk to me.

Although I must say its nice to see us playing well in the league again,. I’m gonna enjoy it before the Europa starts up again

  • Borris January 9, 2017 at 3:18 pm

I cant be arsed much these days HH,. Do you know I had 4 of my Spurs mates all taking the piss out of me saying I talk shit, .. They are all fucking morons, every fucking one of them,. The club must fucking love people like my clown mates that say we haven’t got any money and what more do you want, and Jannsen ‘will come good’ etc etc ,. Honestly, the amount of poeple that can’t see the reality of situations right in front of them, because someone on a box or in a paper has told em something different,. Oh how informed you are, oh how wiser you are to repeat whatever Paul Mersin or Patrick Barclay or whatever other cunt has said ,.,.

Yours with love, a now hair-less fan in Basingstoke 😂

‘Coming good’ is something we specialise in – the problem is too few fail to see that going hand in hand with not bloody winning anything.

Seriously, mate, you watched that and thought he’s no better than Janssen? And that was compiled after just 9 appearances. I’ve seen him about a dozen times this season, incl against Barca, City and Moenchengladbach, and imo he’s got everything.

Striker gain confidence from playing and knowing they will be playing week in and week out. Thinking you will be subbed if you have not scored by half time leads to anxiety and brings out the worst in them ie trying to hard.
If you are going to play one up front as we do Jansson will get few chances to shine and it will be a self fufilling prophesy.
You need a different kind of back up striker for our system either one at the end of their career who has done it so many times that they don’t doubt themselves or an up and coming with no fear.
Sadly for Vincent he is neither

  • Camus January 9, 2017 at 1:35 pm

My honest appraisal… It isn’t looking too clever for Janssen right now but, as others have said, he hasn’t played many games for us yet and look at the time Lamela was given to finally come good (about a season and a half)…
Janssen needs coaching though – to look for forward runs, not this incessant back-to-goal, pulling away from the penalty area style stuff. He made a nice one-two with someone yesterday, looking to move forwards and pop a cross/shot in. If he does more of that, the goals would start to come, I believe. But he does need a few games (in the cups) with maybe Eriksen, Rose & Alli around him to play off. I haven’t given up on him yet.

  • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 1:06 pm

About Dele. He like Kane has struggled at times but they both have renewed energy and so has Eriksen. So has Sissoko the last couple of games and hopefully Janssen will follow

  • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 1:04 pm

Re. Janssen, cast your mind back to when he led the line in Kane’s enforced absence and just how poor we looked. We blamed the team in many cases when in actual fact his lack of movement up front was likely the problem considering the better opposition we played in those PL and CL games.
Personally if Kane was out again, or if he has to be rested as he inevitably will (or we face meltdown again at back end), and if Levy fails to act and bring somebody else in this Jan, then I’d rather put Alli as a false 9 in a 4-3-3 than play Janssen TBH. We know Son doesn’t fit that role, but Alli just might – who knows? Anything has to be better than that Dutch cardboard cut-out TBH.
Give Sissoko a chance, he’s improving game on game and already has several assists. At least we know he fits the PL. His powerful runs can make him dangerous for defences, patience on this one.

  • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 12:54 pm

    mattspurs
Dembele was out of contract but due to Fulham’s transfer ban they would only sell if he was loaned back for the rest of the season – Dembele refused to sign on this basis. Dembele then went to Celtic knowing he’d be first choice and turned down Spurs and Chelsea for a starting place in the SPL.

That’s simply not true mate and bears little relation to fact:
Whilst it’s correct that he would have been loaned back to Fulham for the rest of the season (2015-16), he could still have joined Spurs and in fact favoured doing so having toured our facilities on several occasions, and being very enthusiastic about Poch’s project. But the deal was called off by Levy presumably to save money after the Janssen deal?
As for going to Celtic to be no.1 striker – well NO, not with 26 yr old Lee Griffiths already playing that role!

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 1:19 pm

He didn’t want to go back on loan to Fulham as he knew he could just sit out his contract and then negotiate better terms – given there was no transfer fee involved how was Levy saving money by not signing him other than not meeting his salary demands?

Dembele has played in every SPL game this season. He’s also played in every European game. He’s played more games and scored more goals than Griffiths – now I don’t follow the SPL but those stats ( I don’t even know if Celtic play one or two up front) would point to Dembele being a pretty integral player in Celtic’s first 11?

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 1:32 pm

Also, we signed Janssen two weeks after Dembele signed for Celtic

      • UnkleTaff January 9, 2017 at 1:35 pm

That’s very unfair. Introducing facts into the discussion…

        • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 1:40 pm

Only is they’re facts and not creamed off HITC or some other shitty outlet.

          • UnkleTaff January 9, 2017 at 1:44 pm

“But the deal was called off by Levy presumably to save money after the Janssen deal?”

Dembele signed for Celtic on the 28th June.
Janssen signed for us on the 12th of July.

Which part of this are you having difficulty with?

            • Ronan January 9, 2017 at 1:45 pm

The bit where we allowed a player who’d had a medical with us in Jan to sign for Celtic in the summer for £0.5m

      • Ronan January 9, 2017 at 1:37 pm

Please provide link for where you saw he turned down Spurs.

        • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 1:39 pm

Exactly Ronan, what Matt is saying is nothing but gossip – why would anyone turn down Spurs for Celtic residing in a joke league? I mean come on get real buddy!

          • Ronan January 9, 2017 at 1:43 pm

He’s an exceptional talent, so I just want some clarification as to why we didn’t go back in for him. Or else some evidence that we did go back in but he turned Levy and Poch down in order to go to the SPL.

          • UnkleTaff January 9, 2017 at 1:49 pm

If it’s such a “joke league” why are his goal-scoring stats being treated with any degree of seriousness? It’s probably more or less on a par with the Dutch league where Janssen was scoring for fun last year. Stick Janssen in that Celtic team and he’d quite possibly be having the same level of success that Dembele is.

      • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 1:38 pm

If you recall the Janssen deal dragged on for months so the deal was basically already done and Levy just wanted to save £5m and a salary at the end of the day. He’s got previous you know….

  • caveman January 9, 2017 at 12:51 pm

Nothing was happening on the pitch yesterday until N’Koudou came on. He lit the place up. We need to allow him to blend into the team. Sissoko has that subtle pass in him and he doesn’t panic, but he runs like an old hen, awkward, definitely not a great buy. Winks on the other hand is going to be awesome.

    • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:53 pm

When Lamela comes back, Sissoko plays where? Expensive second eleven player to have.

      • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 1:01 pm

Glos,Lamela has played well at times.Certainly on the defensive side but on the attacking side he shows some pretty play but underperforms. With his talent he should do more. But sometimes I feel that his vision is not thr greatest. He runs into trouble a lot and he doesn’t make enough happen. As I say he certainly has the talent but can he think his way through? I’m not sure.
I think Sissoko has power and that helps Pochs system, even if mistakes are made

    • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Cavey yes 100% agree about NK

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 1:19 pm

    • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:55 pm

Mind you, doesn’t that baby take the mother’s surname if unmarried? No sure if Kane is correct.

      • caveman January 9, 2017 at 12:57 pm

Well Harry himself tweeted ‘Ivy Jane Kane’.

            • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 1:02 pm

              • caveman January 9, 2017 at 1:15 pm

      • Harry Hotspur January 9, 2017 at 12:58 pm

        Kane is correct.

  • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 12:41 pm

Sissoko looked shit the last two games but now he looks like a player.
Janssen can do the same. They just need to find the key

“We are a staff that push the players a lot and we will push him to try to get the level that the team need from him.”

Maybe that’s exactly what he doesn’t need

    • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:44 pm

It doesn’t look likely that we will bring in another striker this January, so Janssen will get more game time I hope. He’ll score the winner in the FA Cup final, just wait.

      • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:45 pm

Kane may be on paternity leave, so we might see him against WBA

    • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:44 pm

Sissoko has 4 assists in all comps, so is making a case for his inclusion. But other than the odd assist does he achieve anything on the pitch? A 40-yard driving run that ends in losing possession doesn’t count.

      Whatever one’s opinion of him, he’s not a £30m game-changing player.

      • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 12:54 pm

Sissoko is turning it around,he isn’t there yet but in the last two games has shown his power and his ability to take on players. He also beautifully assistd on the second goal. Its only two games but the signs are there.Lets see.

  • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:30 pm

WBA next up. I don’t normally give much thought to the Black Country team, but we really have unfinished business with the buggers after they played out of their skins to screw us in the title chase. The team really need to put those feckers to the sword with some clinical finishing this time.

    • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:36 pm

We really need to give them a footballing lesson.

Or more to the point, give Pulis a sleepless night.

  • MysteriousStranger January 9, 2017 at 12:28 pm

He was in Rome getting treatment last I read.

  • MartinChiversAuntie January 9, 2017 at 12:16 pm

We also bought Sisoko, ouch. But we did buy Wanyama, which is turning into a great buy and Nkoudo looks to be like he could be exceptional, he needs 3-4 games back to back in the prem

  • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:16 pm

So, if we give Real Madrid first refusal on the Boy Wonder Dele, can we get Isco on loan now, with a view to buying him in the summer, in return? Special Relationship and all that jazz.

    • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:17 pm

      neither is happening, bruv

      • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Dembele was out of contract but due to Fulham’s transfer ban they would only sell if he was loaned back for the rest of the season – Dembele refused to sign on this basis. Dembele then went to Celtic knowing he’d be first choice and turned down Spurs and Chelsea for a starting place in the SPL.

Do you have a link to where you saw he turned down Spurs, Matt? In this Guardian interview last month he seemed excited to come to Spurs and be MD mk II. But there’s no mention that Levy renewed contact with Fulham after January. Dembele wasn’t starting every game for Celtic this season until Leigh Griffiths got injured in Sept, so it would be odd if he’d turned down a top 3 English PL side with only one other striker.

I put all my emotional commitment into Soldado. If ever there was a player who deserved to succeed it was him imo. With Vince I’ll give him every chance to succeed while he wears the shirt. The difference is that with Bobby I could see a good player in there who had a lot of technical ability. With Vince I see a strong, committed player who holds the ball up well and lays off a decent ball from time to time. I don’t see a natural top quality scorer. I even think Berahino has more ability, not that I want him near this club. Vince will need to go on loan to see if he develops. He needs a consistent run of matches and then a final judgement can be made.

    • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 11:54 am

I agree. Send him out on loan and get someone else in to cover Kane.

Let’s not forget that Janssen has had a consistent run of games when Kane was out injured. 10 starts in total.

What Soldado and Janssen share is that neither can run at a defence like Aguero or Costa can. Soldado in particular needed crosses which, we weren’t providing him, but he didn’t have the ability to do much else.

Janssen plays some nice interchanges to get into the box, but doesn’t create space for himself so is closely man-marked – often choosing to come deeper or wider to pick up the ball (and lose his marker) instead of getting himself in the box and making runs beyond defenders into space in the box.

Dembele looks like he can run at a defence and cause problems. Janssens not causing problems.

      • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:09 pm

Yes, but also remember that back then when Janssen came in, we were criticising Eriksen for being shit, Dele was injured or half fit, and Lamela was also pretty rubbish.

        • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:10 pm

In fact, no one was playing too well, and Janssen was supposed to prosper in a dysfunctional team back then?

          • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:14 pm

            Fair point.

Yet Janssen is not the ‘type’ of striker we need. We need someone who can make their own goals, not rely on “service” (again).

            • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:18 pm

Levy doesn’t seem likely to fork out the huge sum needed to a proven striker in the mould of Ronaldo. 😐

              • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:21 pm

You’re saying we can’t afford the good ones?

                • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:25 pm

No. We can afford them, but that’s not the same as saying Levy will open his tight fist. Short arms, deep pockets.

  • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:40 am

Yes yes, fair enough. Talking of flying under the radar, I haven’t seen Klopp linked with the Barcelona job. Funny that.

That’s cos the media whores aren’t trying to undermine Liverpool. It’s always Spurs who get the treatment.

    • SpurAndy January 9, 2017 at 11:49 am

I’m not really into this media conspiracy stuff Glos. If it’s true why do they want to do it. Surely the more teams there are to challenge for the title the more column inches they get. Trying to sell off a teams players is ok short term but long term would be bad for them.

      • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:51 am

Nope. The guy’s an Arsenal obsessive.

                • SpurAndy January 9, 2017 at 2:04 pm

He obsessively slags them off most days. The Daily Arsenal when it was on? It was the main reason I used to tune in.

                  • Ronan January 9, 2017 at 2:10 pm

C’mon, he slags them off in the way every Arse fan I know does: “Wenger’s past his sell-by date; Arsenal should be winning everything and signing all the top players”. He’s somebody who thought Walcot, Wilshire and ‘the Ox’ were better than Bale until he went to Madrid, and he seems to pay to go to Arse more often than he does Peterborough.

                    • SpurAndy January 9, 2017 at 2:28 pm

Ah I get it, you only hurt the ones you love. I’ll take that under advisement thanks.

          • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 12:36 pm

About two months ago I picked up the Mail which had been left behind in a café, and despite Spurs having won their match, there wasn’t any kind of reports in the footie section, nothing. All the usual suspects were in there, but Spurs, zilch. Says it all.

  • MarkFalco January 9, 2017 at 11:34 am

Sad but very true H. I’ll feel a bit sorry for the lad on a human level, but we need to bury those emotions because he cost £17m and is getting paid the sort of money I dream about.
Of course as usual Levy is the culprit here; we could have had Berahino a long time ago for around £25m and Mauricio wanted him – arguably we could have won the title last season with him in the squad, cos he was on fire at the time.
Then Mitchell allegedly wanted Batshuayi and presumably so did Mauricio (pace again), but of course Levy being a closet gooner fucked that up as well, leading to the resignation of Mitchell and some strong words from Poch.
Instead Levy says “it’s my money money and I’ll spend it as I want to – even though I know fuck-all about football”, and wasted £17m on this plodder who makes Van Wolfwinkel look like a good buy by comparison.
BUT that’s not all; Levy agreed to pay £5m for Moussa Dembele (Fulham at the time) last winter with the striker due to join us last summer. HE FUCKIN’ PULLED THE PLUG ON THAT WHEN HE BOUGHT JANSSEN!!!
I tell you with friends like Levy we don’t need enemies.

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 11:43 am

Dembele was out of contract but due to Fulham’s transfer ban they would only sell if he was loaned back for the rest of the season – Dembele refused to sign on this basis. Dembele then went to Celtic knowing he’d be first choice and turned down Spurs and Chelsea for a starting place in the SPL.

  • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:33 am

Maybe Janssen would like to play with the other in form A list players. We bring on Dele to get things moving but took off Janssen so he didn’t benefit. Instead, he only gets on with the remedial class and then gets fuck all service. And then criticised when he can’t turn shite into gold.

    • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:34 am

If he’d stayed on, he would have headed the goal that totally unmarked Davies scored.

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 11:35 am

Yeah exactly. In the end it was the removal of Toby that actually meant we started attacking in numbers but by then Janssen was off.

      • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:37 am

Correctomondo. We’re screwing up Janssen just like we screwed with Soldado by not playing to their strengths.

  • Tottenham central January 9, 2017 at 11:16 am

Jansen. A poor mans mark Hughes.

      Yes

    • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 11:33 am

        • Real Fan? January 9, 2017 at 9:42 am

I’m happy enough flying under the radar until we actually start winning things again, to be fair.

Can’t agree with you there Easty or Harts. I fully get the drain on the squad with the Ropey whilst we’re chasing the title but there’s far more gratification in winning a Euro trophy than the fa or league cup, for me. Also it gives us far greater experience in European competition and will help us to win the CL quicker and I honestly think we can win if we have some luck with injuries. Coyfs😀❤️

I think his brain is working better than before the op! Wonders of modern science etc

  • Syd January 9, 2017 at 3:22 am

    Ronwol196061
The key is for him to buy some space which he isnt
When he gets it he has got a good eye for a pass and we can score a ton of goals that way
He can also loosen up defences I’m sure but space is key
He never gets time as he stick too close to his marker

Perhaps he should play a bit deeper then, maybe in the hole and be a distributor – sort of as a back up to Dele or Ericksen and not so much as a back up to Harry. He does hold the ball well and seems to be able to put a decent pass through and his defence is tenacious.

    • David Dillenberg January 9, 2017 at 3:26 am

Syd cant agree with this. Simply put he was bought as a back up striker for HK to score goals and seemingly it has not worked out.

      • Syd January 9, 2017 at 3:35 am

DD, that part I agree with, but he appears to be a decent footballer and has a big heart. I know he was bought as a back up for HK and I am just reaching for straws thinking perhaps Poch and co. can turn him into something very useful for us as they have done with Dier.
Who knows? like others here say, he might find his mojo but I believe all his goals come from within the box after a parry by the keeper/defender or a scrap on the ground. Unfortunately we have not been playing that way for him. he does not appear to be the type of striker that make a diagonal run behind the line and the first time hit it.
Either way, I’m hoping he will come good because I really like his attitude.

        • David Dillenberg January 9, 2017 at 4:11 am

Agreed he tries hard and looks a really nice guy when if Poch can find a solution all to the good but somehow I just can’t see it.

          • Citizen Smozz January 9, 2017 at 9:21 am

      • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 3:56 am

There are keys to solving things, not all things but if you had taken the view that Bale was at best a not bad left back….

        • Syd January 9, 2017 at 5:02 am

          I agree Ronnie

    • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 4:21 am

Syd, Poch makes some mistakes,as do we all. BUt I wouldn’t give awa.y Janssen just yet.
Kane has come back from a very frustrating time and that is being blocked out by defenders and getting frustrated at not finding a way through until he did again.
Janssen may never make it in our league but he could also be great.he,like Kane did, puts a lot of pressure on himself. Kane got out of it and although I’m not comparing them (as Kane succeeded before he didn’t) sometimes trying too hard is as bad or worse than half hearted trying.
Trying to find the key for Janssen is a lot more positive. The hangman should be pushed aside for a while.

  • David Dillenberg January 9, 2017 at 3:17 am

Raz I struggle to concur with your sentiments about a player who looks totally out of his depth at PL level. Jeez we do find them that if Soldado was not bad enough this guy is even worse!

    • David Dillenberg January 9, 2017 at 3:21 am

Personally the weight of expectation of playing for Spurs weighs too heavily on his shoulders.

      • Razspur January 9, 2017 at 3:40 am

Lamela has been given 3 years to come up to scratch, Bale was given 18 months, kept out of the team by BAE, Janssen has had 6 months and is still only 22.

        • David Dillenberg January 9, 2017 at 4:28 am

Noted. Perhaps it’s just a confidence issue that once it returns and he starts scoring goals from open play his whole dispirited mood will change and he will come of age.

        • mattspurs January 9, 2017 at 11:39 am

Bale was shit for 2 years

          • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:43 am

He was called a jinx as he was never on a winning team to 19 matches I think it was. Someone confirm or correct.

            • 61SpursNut🌰 January 9, 2017 at 11:45 am

              His first 24 league matches.

  • Razspur January 9, 2017 at 3:01 am

Suarez, Van Nistleroy and Bergkamp made the transition from top scorer in the Dutch League to top Striker in the PL, Janssen will do likewise,,the first year is always tough and this game is as low as it gets, a striker just doesn’t lose the instinct overnight, he’s young and the ability is there surely the Coaches can solve this cummerbun.

  • Spursy January 9, 2017 at 1:57 am

Someone on Spurs Community said they’d heard an agent on a radio show talking about a PL player who is planning to run out his contract, then go to somewhere outside the PL to avoid tribunal fee and then go to a PL side. A bit like the Zeki Fryers move. The fan wondered if it was Saido Berahino.

Apparently, Rangers are in for him at a nominal fee. 500k, papers are saying. Is Mark Warburton going to help Spurs?

    • caveman January 9, 2017 at 2:04 am

Spursy, he’s not brave enough to be a Spurs player. We need players that can get over themselves, Berahino can’t.

      • Spursy January 9, 2017 at 2:10 am

Not sure. Normally, I’d think don’t touch with a barge pole, but he used to score in a thrilling way…

Also, could this have all the hallmarks of a Levy mind-bender? Involving cheapness; exchange of players and a dish of revenge served cold.

  • caveman January 9, 2017 at 1:56 am

Thought N’Koudou was brilliant today. He’s one that will take his chance and become an important part of the squad. Funny, a few of us have been ßaying that for a while now, and he showed today that he has the ability, both going forward, crossing and defending. I’d say he’ll turn out to be a very good player for us.

    • Ronwol196061 January 9, 2017 at 2:00 am

Poch quotes this evening on Janssen:

“Yes, it’s true that he’s struggling. But it’s difficult for strikers. Look again at the game against Chelsea, both strikers struggled, Diego Costa and Harry Kane, when you don’t have space to move and run it’s always difficult.”

“Second half he started better. He found better space to play but of course it was a moment we decided to include Dele Alli on the pitch but it was always tough not only for him.”

“He’s very young, it’s different league, he needs to adapt his game and to work hard and not be frustrated from that performance. ”

“We are a staff that push the players a lot and we will push him to try to get the level that the team need from him.”

    • Danspurs January 9, 2017 at 12:07 am

His words are more positive than his actions in subbing him were. I’d still have preferred to see son hooked. Vinny needed game time and chances more. Still though we won! Have good weeks, all!

    • Hartley January 9, 2017 at 12:10 am

Janssen will be fine, he’s strong and has an excellent first touch, can pass a football and does in fact have a fair bit of pace his first goal in open play will be the first of many. He’s only 22.

      • Spursy January 9, 2017 at 12:56 am

My thoughts, Hartley. It will be a great moment for him.

      • East Stand January 9, 2017 at 1:09 am

Spot on Harts, lay off Vinny. Not his fault as HH says and seeing as we aren’t going to buy Suarez as aback up to Kane we don’t have much but to back him. Besides, Son looked fairly lively up front when he moved there when Vinny went off so it’s not that desperate a situation.

Kane’s missus had a little girl today, he’ll be getting fack all sleep for a few months then!! What am I on about? They can afford to employ a nurse to help, i’m living in the real world sorry about that!

It’s more of a reality than people think, the ‘champions elect’ came and we took them down and for me it was signal of intent. We might not win it but we can have a proper go. Any domestic double would involve fucking of the Ropey, I 100% agree.

These nimbies that go on about the Ropey being a ‘route into the Champions League’ seem to forget that if you expect to finish in the top four that it’s complete waste of time. It’s a cup for mid table La Liga clubs or Swiss or Portuguese champions to win…

I love it when people say he´s a new Soldado… No actually that couldn´t be more inaccurate. Soldado had a nice first touch, actually gave everything when fielded, and he was mostly liked. Not to mention he actually had a real career of sorts… Janssen fills none of the above criteria… And to top off he’s dutch… With a face you´d wanna land a backhand on.

There… Now I can brush my teeth in peace.

100% with you Ron. I really feared a poor campaign after last season’s tail off leading to poch being sacked early next season. Yet here we are back where we were this time last season with wanyama added and last season’s experience under our belt. These are potentially glorious times.

    I agree.
I think we speeded up the pace and Poch has been using a variety of formations and finally we have been clicking steadily for a month.
We are not good when we are playing just possession and need to force the issue more but it coming. A plan B is good where we can create something away from the pressing game like Eriksen has been doing and Nkoudoo showed today.
Kane and Dele are both fantastic 9 and 10’s and so we have to keep the creating going

Spurstacus – Jansen being able to run fast doesn’t mean he can do so with the ball unfortunately. His touch is poor and movement on the ball is tediously slow I’m afraid.

Hello Ethan. Just seen your post.

My comment was in response to D’Rabbi, who said Jannsen had no pace and was slow. Opta stats would suggest otherwise. Whatever his faults may be, lack of pace isn’t one of them.

As to your other points, you may be right, I don’t know.

    • Spurstacus 💋 January 8, 2017 at 11:02 pm

      • East Stand January 9, 2017 at 12:00 am

Acceleration over a short distance isn’t his strong point, perhaps long balls over the top would be better for him?

        • AccringtonSpurs January 9, 2017 at 12:22 am

I’ve watched every game he’s played for us and never seen him outrun a defender. The stat is rather pointless if you can’t see that he’s at all quick with your eyes, is it not?

Nkoudou on the other hand, looks very quick.

          • East Stand January 9, 2017 at 12:57 am

And a good cross on him too which isn’t something I expected Acc, thought he’s be all cutting inside and dribbling but good to see he can deliver a decent ball from distance too.

          • Spurstacus 💋 January 9, 2017 at 1:03 am

I saw him beat a defender twice, today. It you don’t rate him, that’s fine, but making stuff up is silly.

            • East Stand January 9, 2017 at 1:14 am

Vinny simply isn’t as ‘shit’ as some people are making out, he needs time, possibly even a loan away if it gets worse but he is not crap just because he’s not scoring.

Soldado wasn’t crap but crap in the Premier League, the difference is that at 22 there’s time to develop his game to suit it. Soldaldo was bought as ready to go straight out of the box…

  • Mattspurs January 8, 2017 at 10:45 pm

Poor Janssen – feeding off the scraps off Sissoko and Son’s poor first touches. Waiting for either of them to look up and pass. Meanwhile Spurs’ solid defence unit stood on the halfway line looking at the poor sod run around.
Against Chelsea maybe it’s acceptable to only commit 3 players to attack for an hour, against a 2nd division team it’s not.
I’m not sure taking Toby off will ever have a positive impact ever again but today it was key.

    • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 11:08 pm

Might not have been so bad if walker and rose had played as I think they’d have had the confidence to play as actual wingers. Trippiers crossing is great but he doesn’t dominate his side of the pitch the way walker does. And Davies isn’t anywhere as dynamic as rose. I did feel for vinny today but he also needs to do more to force the issue if he’s going to make the grade. Hope he does.

  • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 10:45 pm

Before signing I thinks it’s safe to say we have probably seen the last of Tom Carroll who I had high hopes for but never made it destined to be sold in Jan.
Also had high hopes for Ryan Fredericks but he never made it either.

    Cheers

to be fair he was in dutch team that played a 4-3-3 long ball game focussed on him….so all the mo-po system is alien to him…but scoring goals shouldn’t be in any system….

    I say give him time……

    • Gloster1861 January 9, 2017 at 11:56 am

Now that Eriksen and Dele are back in form, let Janssen get some decent service from them over 90 minutes before passing sentence on him. Of course, he won’t get that opportunity.

Janssen is the victim of bad timing and historical circumstance. No-one on here is disputing the boy’s effort (or that he deserves a run with a strong team behind him) but he needs more time than we have to give him due to the excrutiating car crash that was the run in of last season. And i think we saw confirmation of this tonight, Poch wouldn’t have hooked him if this had been last season but he’s grown up, he knew what not putting it to bed tonight would potentially mean. It was a very tough call but imho it was the right one.

The first a little behind Son but still with a force of positivity that we hadn’t seen all game and the second a beaut that set up the second.
His proactive actions changed the game. There was too little poignant play before that

  • East Stand January 8, 2017 at 10:09 pm

I’d shelve the whole ‘Vinny comes good’ thing for this season and try and find an experienced striker to compliment Kane in Jan.

The only problem with that is who can you buy in January that will improve the squad and guarantee goals in the Premiership? Even Defoe has had a ‘not for sale’ sign slapped on him.

Despite the protestations on here and amoungst our loyal supporters we won’t be able to rectify this in January.

Perhaps we should have gone bigger in the summer but January is only for the desperate. If you don’t agree then name the strikers we could get that would improve us this month. I’m waiting…

    • paul January 8, 2017 at 10:10 pm

Even if we tried they would not sell to a rival. They’d sell him to one of the Milan clubs for example.

Look at it this way, would we be happy to sell I dunno Wimmer or Son to Liverpool for example even if they offered huge money? We shouldn’t even embarrass ourselves with an offer. Besides, he’s a sick-note waiting to happen…

Wanyama has given us that bit of bite and strength and experience in there. Chavs couldn’t bully us with him and Dembele together in that game, you need strength in that engine room in the Premier League.

You also need that strong spine and stamina over a season, the little Spanish type Barca midfielders are ok here and there but you need a blend in this league…

  • Double A January 8, 2017 at 9:51 pm

I would take Barkley, he looks like he needs a move, he can travel with the ball and is direct, signing Sturridge would, in my opinion, give us a chance of winning the league, Levy failed us last January, a killer signing could’ve given us a but more impetus, he has the opportunity again…………

    • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:53 pm

Barkley and Sturridge would be perfect. The league would almost definitely be ours ! 👍

    • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:54 pm

There’s something in taking Barkley as he wouldnt create the problems for Tin Tin that a worldie AM would. Barkelys game is a bit different, he’s buff as fuck and the right age. Still think he’d be one more for next season than this but he wouldn’t embaraas himself or us to play now. Sturridge and him would have us right up there

      • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 9:56 pm

For heavens sake we need a creative midfielder not Barkley.

        • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:59 pm

there’s more than one way to skin a cat DD. I was banging on about getting Coric last Summer but we didn’t and he’s noo use to us now. There is no current Modric out there available to us, ok maybe Isko but it’s not going to happen so considering we are a team that is more than the sum of its constituent parts Barkley and Tin tin could actually work

          • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 10:01 pm

According to MS Coric any deal over Coric is seemingly complicated by Third Party ownership same as with that highly rated Spanish centre half who failed to join Spurs we ending up with Fazio instead.

      • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:47 pm

          He deserves too.

        • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:52 pm

I’m not sure what you mean about ‘not right’ Paul. Logical IS right innit?

            • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 10:02 pm

I see a real gem in him. Hopefully he gets a real chance and no better than Poch for me to pick it.

              • paul January 8, 2017 at 10:06 pm

Timing is the real problem no? After the excruciating implosion of last season where we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory then how in all good conscience can Poch knowingly field him from now on in?

                • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 10:09 pm

It’s whether or not Poch still rates him but I would play him for at least an hour, let him find himself. We have other players to contribute with the goals too. If he finds his groove then the bonus is we have another goal scorer .

                  • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 10:11 pm

                    If he’s (which I see) a 20-25 goal a season guy, then it’s worth it right .

                  • East Stand January 8, 2017 at 11:44 pm

I agree, let him play his game and keep improving his hold up play, assists etc and forget about goals for now.

  • Harry Hotspur January 8, 2017 at 9:44 pm

    everything after ‘January’ was superfluous

    THIS.

    • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 10:10 pm

Steady on. It’s only the 8th. There’s another 11 and 3 quarters months to go yet. I have high hopes for this year.

  • East Stand January 8, 2017 at 9:42 pm

There’s bit of hindsight going on here with Vinny.

Let’s not forget that he was already leading the line for the Dutch national team at 22 years old, who are a far more illustrious football team than England. To me and many other people he looked to be at the perfect stage of his career to be ‘Poched’ up and developed at Spurs.

I haven’t given up on the chap, he’s about seven years younger than Soldaldo and cost under half as much. The problem is that he isn’t the ready made back up for Kane we need, he’s lacking confidence and the pressure is too much for him to find his feet at present.

Give up on Janssen now when you backed Soldaldo for two years then you’re a pillock…

    • Harry Hotspur January 8, 2017 at 9:43 pm

Soldado kept his face pointing towards the other lot’s goal.

      • Ronwol196061 January 8, 2017 at 9:49 pm

The key is for him to buy some space which he isnt
When he gets it he has got a good eye for a pass and we can score a ton of goals that way
He can also loosen up defences I’m sure but space is key
He never gets time as he stick too close to his marker

        • Ronwol196061 January 8, 2017 at 9:50 pm

Certain strikers can play off the shoulder but they need the quality of Drogba to do so
Kane knows how to buy space but at time hasnt

      • East Stand January 8, 2017 at 9:56 pm

Soldaldo was more experienced and looked the part but with no end product. Janssen has a whole host of reasons to explain why he’s been shite, Soldaldo didn’t. Even if he was a decent bloke…

    • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:46 pm

East i have to say that it’s exactly coz we all hung in there for Bobby soldier for two years that we can and should give up on Vinny

      • East Stand January 8, 2017 at 10:57 pm

A completely different set of circumstances. However we need someone for the present to take the pressure off Vinny…

  • Harry Hotspur January 8, 2017 at 9:41 pm

    AccringtonSpurs

As a team who are supposedly ‘challenging’ for the title we can no longer afford to wait 2 years for players to come good.

    Correct.

  • Andreas January 8, 2017 at 9:38 pm

Most of the Spurs hating press and so called journalists will try to disrupt our improvement ,after all they support or arse, chelski, wet spam manure.Even collymor has said he wants Delle to move to a bigger club .It’s up to Levy to reject it approach, and show that we are building for the future. If we entertain any offers we will lose our best players and manager, but we will probably pay off most of the stadium dept.
Why didn’t we sign Dembele from Fulham?????????? Can’t get my head around that. He had a fucking medical with us, as usual dragging our feet.Jannsen needs time but we need to move on with another purchase. If we don’t do it now, then next season at Wembley could be a disaster as we haven’t got used to it.

    • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2017 at 9:41 pm

Im pretending next years not happening…who knows? With trump in the Whitehouse it may not!

  • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 9:25 pm

If I were Poch and Levy I would make a proactive move for another striker in January because if Kane suffers a long term injury then expecting Jansen to come good aint going to happen.
    Over and out.

It’s going to be okay – we have Son.

And as we all know, he’s a striker.

      • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 9:27 pm

Yes but IMO he is more of an impact sub than a striker.

        • AccringtonSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:30 pm

I think he’s more of a winger than an impact sub

  • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:23 pm

In reply to Danspurs last comment further down..

Vin boy’s a square peg caught in unfortunate circumstances. I have started to think that of all the quality prem strikers that could hit the ground running, fit in with our style of play and also bring a different dimension, the best bet would arguably be a Mr. D. Sturridge of Bindippers Fc. But he’s a total cock so would depend if Poch felt he could do a number on him. I could actually see it working and he definitely isn’t happy up there. Anyone?

    • AccringtonSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:25 pm

      Two probs:

      1. He absolutely is a cock (and dances like a cock)
      2. He’s on £140k/week supposedly, so he’s a non-starter for us.

      • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:28 pm

Hahaha, but neither is insurmountable, i think!

        • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:30 pm

1st order of business, team meeting, Daniel it’s ok you don’t need ot be a dick here..
Then just put him on parity with Kane

    • Spursy January 8, 2017 at 9:48 pm

Levy will keep wages and purchases in a low range so no way for Sturridge. I was amazed at the Sissoko purchase and don’t expect a repeat. There’s a guy who’s done a spreadsheet analysis of Levy’s purchases and wages and what he expects his ratios to be for the new stadium build. Sorry can’t remember his name, but you could try go googling for it.

      • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:51 pm

Im not that invested in it Spursy but thanks! Seriously though there is a deal there to be done, Sturridge i think would jump at it and Klopp wants rid of him. As long as he got parity with Harry i think if he would swallow it and get his agent in line, he needs (love) exposure and isn’t getting any love up there

        • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 9:54 pm

Paul if nothing else why would Liverpool sell to one of their rivals? Crazy to do so.
IMO chances of it happening: Zilch

          • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:56 pm

You’ve correctly identified the biggest stumbling block to it ever happening but you never know, i think there’s a lot of mutual dislike between him and Klopp

    • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:59 pm

Being honest outside of spurs games I watch very little football so I can’t really make an informed suggestion. But I can’t see them selling to us. Martial at the rumoured pre manc price of 17 Mil might have been good with hindsight but this season he hasn’t even looked worth that. Harry had some itk about ibra and that would have been sweet maybe. I don’t get why there isn’t a Haircut knocking on the door. Who are our kiddie goal getters? Anyone know?

  • Ronwol196061 January 8, 2017 at 9:20 pm

Janssen should be worked on he needs to buy space

N’Koudoo is proactive, and made the difference in this game

Sissoko is a tough attacker and goid for park the bus physical defences

  • melcyid January 8, 2017 at 9:19 pm

It looked to me that when Janssen went off the Villans had less to worry about at their end and started to press us for a while and got back in the game. However it eventually gave us gaps to attack and counter which was when we scored.Good sub for us but not for him. I dont think that was the plan either but thats what happened.IMHO

  • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:09 pm

Spurstacus – Jansen being able to run fast doesn’t mean he can do so with the ball unfortunately. His touch is poor and movement on the ball is tediously slow I’m afraid.

  • James147 January 8, 2017 at 9:01 pm

Pains me to say cos he’s trying oh so hard, but I haven’t seen anything yet to suggest Janssen will “make it” at Spurs. He needs a lot more subtlety around the box and needs to get into better, goalscoring positions. At the moment he looks very much like Soldado 2.0. He is young but needs to learn fast.

  • melcyid January 8, 2017 at 8:59 pm

I was hoping Janssen wasnt taken off as he had no service again. he won a few tackles and gave some good passes and fought and chased well. The ball in for Davies goal was just the type of ball he needs but was taken off by then. Not a good sub for his already low confidence, his body language said it all as he trudged off.

    • UnkleTaff January 8, 2017 at 9:01 pm

I was surprised to see him get the hook. I thought Son was a more likely candidate.

    • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:02 pm

Absolutely Mel. As much as I praise Poch for making that choice which was probably difficult, I don’t think I’ve wanted a player to come good as much as this guy. I still see a monster I’m him.

    Spursy
Yeah but how many minutes? He hasn’t had many full games I’m sure and has come on in the last few minutes many times.

Janssen has so far clocked up 607 minutes of PL football. That’s the equivalent of less than seven games spread out over half a season.

Way too soon to be writing him off in my view.

  • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 8:51 pm

Vinny has a fantastic record of scoring goals, albeit in a league with less quality. His commitment and efforts for the team is not really in question. Of course he doesn’t have the benefit of experience playing in the English league which is quicker, more physical and takes some adapting too. I mean even Harry Kane takes till November to find his feet whilst getting all the game time he needs. A lot of really high end quality players have to hone all the instincts and awareness . Quite often it’s the first touch or two which makes all the difference . This comes with regular matches or patience. If he he is a truly gifted striker (which often playing instinctively is paramount) then he needs 4 or 5 consecutive games to find it. I think he’s watching Harry and trying to do to much. Unless he’s told differently he should just stick a few in the net as he obviously knows where the goal is and sort the rest out laters . Come on Vinny !!!

    • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:00 pm

so you’d be happy to have Vinny leading the line for us in the next four or five games or indeed any of the remaining four or five games between now and the end of the season? I wouldn’t.

      • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:08 pm

That’s the real problem because it’s probably what he needs – a five game run with a spurs first team that’s on fire.

        • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:11 pm

You’re spot on but there’s the rub

          • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:15 pm

Kane had a poor game by his standards on weds but still took up a lot of defenders attention. I think vinny has that in him but he’s not showing it at the moment.

      • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:14 pm

I would, he can play with Kane too.

I’m all in favour for ridiculous goal celebrations and also for expressing ones self with the haircut he/she desires. The moodiness is difficult to ascertain so for me the egotistical/self serving could be a problem but I haven’t seen this I have to say.

                • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:42 pm

I think Poch and the boys could sort him out and he would know that if he repeated the pattern he’d be finished, no-one would touch him

                  • AntSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:50 pm

I do rate Sturridge and think he would be a perfect suit . Even though he has been injury prone and is unable to last the season, much like Dembele I would welcome a player like him to the SPURS ARMY ! From what I’ve seen of him he’s a good guy !

    • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2017 at 9:07 pm

I want him to succeed. He doesn’t look out of place in the Dutch side, I think he’s just, like you say, desperate to do well and yes over thinking it. The fans are as desperate for him and its like a clash of pressure.

  • ethan January 8, 2017 at 8:50 pm

Nevermind Soldado, comparing Jansen to Soldado is an insult to the former. Currently he’s even making Gregorz Rasiak look good.

  • seattlespursguy January 8, 2017 at 8:47 pm

Number 26 in the draw tomorrow.

    • Billy Legit January 8, 2017 at 9:00 pm

      We’re gonna get Millwall.

  • paul January 8, 2017 at 8:44 pm

Well i’m glad i didn’t leave the sofa for that one but job done and hope we cop an easy 4th round draw. Honourable mention to Plymouth for dragging the bindippers on a 600 mile round trip they definitely won’t need!

Feels like things are really firming up for me and i hope poch and daniel too: Vinny needs to go, no-one likes the stench of a corpse or the energy drain that 24/7 sympathy brings. Tripps deserves more starts in the league and he needs to start getting them, he’s better than just cover, he’s a weapon, needs to be regularly included, starting with WBA. Davies is cover but no more than. Winks is Mustard, colman’s mild at the mo but getting there slowly and surely, also he seems like an actual decent human being, spoke with tremendous elequence and genuine humility yesterday, a credit to himself, his parents and the club. Voodoo N’koudoo is worth keeping and being drawn further into the fold. Cup starts, whole second halfs in the league, worth exploring to see if he can become what we need. I wouldn’t cry if we didn’t pick up a winger in January, much prefer a top up and coming striker as cover for Harry and hopefully a world class AM at some point. Going to be interesting to see how Coco re-integrates after his hiatus, i get the feeling he’s gutted to have been missing out over the last couple months and as we all know the boy is a tryer so hopefully will be like a new signing when he gets back and up to speed. Son for me is just decent cover now, cup starts and 2nd half sub, we should probably keep and i’m sure Daniel loves the exposure in Asia. Shitsoko can still fuck right off but if we are locked-in to keeping him then same deal as sonny boy. Wimmer is excellent cover, should be made to feel more valued. Vickers is doing ok’ish, a keeper for now. Onomatonomah i would get shot of in January if at all possible and christ can we please just sell Tiny Tom!

Lastly, if we did have to sell a quality player to raise funds or for any other reason then i think for me the least damaging to let go would be Hugo, it genuinely wouldn’t worry me. Vorm is alright cover given our defence and good keepers are far more available than Strikers or AM’s. Would make it easier to see Tobes rightfully captained too.

Just some general thoughts, shoot them down as you see fit..

    • AccringtonSpurs January 8, 2017 at 9:03 pm

Shitsoko can still fuck right off but if we are locked-in to keeping him then same deal as sonny boy.

Agree with everything you say. everything.

      • paul January 8, 2017 at 9:05 pm

        High praise! Cheers boss

  • Camus January 8, 2017 at 8:43 pm

As a random aside, I like Son. He’s basically the asian Chadli but younger and with a bit more potential. Always fancy he could nick a goal. Good option to have in the squad, for me.

  • caveman January 8, 2017 at 8:40 pm

Pochettino: “I’m pleased for the players that haven’t played too much, it’s important for them to build their confidence.”
Didn’t do much for Jannsen’s confidence.

  • Percy January 8, 2017 at 8:39 pm

So would Barkley and Berahino in represent a good January window. Isco would be nice but unrealistic?

    • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:41 pm

IMO neither of them will be joining unless Levy entertains a Barkley Sissy swap deal.

      • Percy January 8, 2017 at 8:47 pm

And would you do the swap? I’m not convinced it’s that good a deal. Berahino on a tribunal might be worth a punt. Cheaper than Janssen!!

        • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:51 pm

Percy It would be tempting but probably not as it could negate Wink’s progression.

          • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2017 at 9:15 pm

Berahino and Winks hardly play in the same position so I can’t see your logic.

            • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:19 pm

In reference to the barkley sissy swap deal I think

              • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2017 at 9:23 pm

Ah, wasn’t that clear. Anyway fuck Barkley, he’s shite.

                • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:40 pm

Not seen enough of him to know but it’s not a deal I think we need.

    • 61SpursNut🌰 January 8, 2017 at 8:31 pm

      “End of” – if only.

Is Delle Alli an attacking midfielder?

      • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:34 pm

Ok CREATIVE MIDFIEILDER OF DAVID SILVA, INIESTA,
        XAVI ILK.

        • Horndog 😎 January 8, 2017 at 8:40 pm

          We have one, Winks.

        • A waddle and a fork January 8, 2017 at 8:44 pm

Keep shouting Dillenberg. Eriksens stats would be considered comparable to that of Modric. Modric is out of this world and that is why he is at Real and will stay at Real.

          • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:46 pm

Essentially Eriksen is neat and tidy good players but lacks that extra vision to make him a world class player.

            • A waddle and a fork January 8, 2017 at 8:50 pm

In your opinion. In Potch’s opinion he has the ability to step it up. And like all us Spurs fans he is asking him to grab the games ahead by the scruff of the neck.

              • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:53 pm

Yes Erike needs to be more assertive but hello that’s not his style! IMO what we see being a mixture of good and some bad is the best he can produce.

    • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:36 pm

Not sure modders was an attacking midfielder or world class when we signed him. I think we need a proven prem attacker and an out and out winger myself.

      • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:39 pm

yes but with Parker sitting snd Modric probing, weaving his magic creating openings IMO this was an effective partnership.

        • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:44 pm

Yes it was. But we do have signs of similar chemistry bubbling away in different areas of our best 11. As much as I’d love a genuine world class signing or even a bold one such as huge potential everyone else is after such as Coric I think some genuine second option signings that don’t break the bank could still be a game changer for us.

          • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:47 pm

Dan don’t start me on Coric!!!

            • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:49 pm

              Do you rate him, dilly?

              • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 8:54 pm

I do and would take a punt purely based on youtube clips but others dont.

                • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 9:03 pm

I was exactly the same with modders and Eriksen and further back Anderton and waddle. Sometimes it just sounds right.

                  • David Dillenberg January 8, 2017 at 9:17 pm

Seemingly Coric is offensively creatively minded constantly on the run recycling the ball quickly and within our price range.

        • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2017 at 8:46 pm

Which lasted less than one season.

          • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:48 pm

Could’ve been longer but Danny boy wouldn’t pay what west ham were after for parker. Glad he learned from that experience!

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2017 at 8:27 pm

Well, one things for sure, when Jansen went off he looked like he’d been told to wash everyone’s unddies. Likely if he had got the 90 mins he woulda been where Davies or son were and it may have been better for him. Alas we will never know…

    • A waddle and a fork January 8, 2017 at 8:34 pm

I think we looked better when he went off. You can’t rewrite it.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2017 at 8:39 pm

Ali and nkoudou made a difference, I reckon if son had got the hook instead it wouldn’t av been much different.

I think it’s more a case of we looked better when Alli came on.

ps who is/was slower, Janssen or John Duncan?

  • AccringtonSpurs January 8, 2017 at 8:19 pm

    Opta stat in the Metro:

33 – Excluding penalties, Vincent Janssen has had a total of 33 shots without scoring in all comps; the most of any PL striker. Wayward.

      • AccringtonSpurs January 8, 2017 at 8:33 pm

I didn’t even realise he’d had any shots

  • C1 January 8, 2017 at 8:18 pm

Vinny .. poor balance and first touch!! Not so sharp
In possession .. Looks out of place in his first 5 months in the prem!!

Erik Lamela .. first season and abit.. poor balance and first touch .. didn’t look so sharp in possession!! Yet it would take a fool to say Lamela has not become a key member of the first team!!

Jansen had a poor game today and has not covered himself in glory previously but to write the guy off already is short sighted and irrational!!

    MiT January 8, 2017 at 8:10 pm

Vinny will come good. You can’t be serious!!

  • MiT January 8, 2017 at 8:10 pm

Vinny will come good. This fan base has no patience with new players historically. That’s because Levy has always had a fast trigger. The current gaffer is teaching him how to be more patient. The fans will follow.

I agree that putting him in matches like this is very very cruel if he does not come good. It is only because Tottenham has progressed beyond the ability to slowly blood players in. The core now plays at too high of a level. However, I do have a feeling that Vincent is going to get some more time.

    • SpurAndy January 8, 2017 at 8:18 pm

MiTty all we have with Vince is hope. You can only judge at the moment on what you see. Bobby looked like a player but it just didn’t happen. Vince looks to my very uneducated eye like a Championship player at best. I hope I’m wrong but that’s the way I see it atm. Sorry

  • SpurAndy January 8, 2017 at 8:04 pm

Vinny is vinny, we need a bit more Chablis.

  • Arcane January 8, 2017 at 8:03 pm

More failed penny-pinching. A slow, short striker without the flexibility Poch prefers.

The other 2 are just mouthy backstreet hookers of the TV pundit world, but the lovely Gary and articulate JJ hit the nail softly on the head, because they know the Levy MO, and don’t see him changing it.

We either step up a level now, while we’re in the top tier or we have our best players taken off us, anddrop back down to the doorstep.

We’re in an awkward position – untenable for more than another season.

Which means either buying a top quality AM, and better second striker, asap, or accepting we’re a selling club.

To be able to push on, bring in that kind of player(s) we DO need to be in the CL. We don’t have the budget to get round that, like Chelsea and Utd have.

Winning the F.A Mug would not cut it.

if you’re ambitious for the club, then Poch has got our priorities right.

If you prefer to eat a little chocolate coin now and pretend the world hasn’t changed that’s fine, but to be honest about it, you have to join H and accept that being a second tier club would be part of the bargain for going all out for the low-hanging fruit domestic cups.

I’m pleased Poch is aiming higher.

    • Harry Hotspur January 8, 2017 at 8:11 pm

“Winning the F.A Mug would not cut it.”

      Yes it would.

Most of our support does not use Clearasil (not suggesting that you do).

Spurs are a football club that always tried to win stuff.

My god, we are a club that could make ‘winning stuff’ fashionable again.

Poch’s ‘higher’ is what precisely, a balance sheet?

      • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:33 pm

I didn’t think Arcane was talking about the fans or club but about attracting the sorr of players who would convince our quality players not to do a modders or bale. We need cl to do that unlike Chelsea and mancs who can attract them with money. Problem is, even with cl we didn’t pull it off either time we made it. Whether that’s the stadium or enic only more years of jam tomorrow will tell.

      • Arcane January 8, 2017 at 11:28 pm

Never been in CL 2 years running – to do so would be a significant step (up) – taken more seriously all round including, critically, by the sort of ambitious young quality players that are our only hope of making more progress and challenging for and winning things regularly.

Winning a domestic cup is of little interest to the likes of Isco, etc, and will therefore not help us to keep Dele et al, once we accept we’ll settle for that they’ll have no reason to stay, and nor would Poch, or any other really good, ambitious manager.

Look at it this way H. If you’re happy with winning domestic cups, then you’re in danger of declaring Levy a marvellous success, because we have a team well able to do that already. All he’d have to do is issue the dictat, to aim for the league cup, and everyone’d love him, no? No thanks, if you want to go all out for something we can win, and chuck the PL, then why not the ropey? We’d both be happy.

  • oxspur January 8, 2017 at 8:01 pm

I was so hopeful vinny would come good but my faith is beginning to run out but on a positive note nukoudo looks ok on the few cameos I’ve seen of him COYS by the way villa are fcuking shit

  • Camus January 8, 2017 at 8:00 pm

I agree with the poster saying we should’ve bought the other Mousa Dembele.

  • Camus January 8, 2017 at 7:57 pm

We don’t have many players who can spot a forward pass and it needs the no.9 to make a direct run forward anyway for the midfielder to spot. When Janssen plays, neither happens.

  • seattlespursguy January 8, 2017 at 7:56 pm

Lineker described VJ as a poor man’s Soldado, but so far he’s actually been a homeless man’s Soldado.

    • Danspurs January 8, 2017 at 8:27 pm

Not sure I agree but that made me smile.

  • Ronan January 8, 2017 at 7:54 pm

The Vinny buy made sense based on his goal stats but he looks way too cumbersome and limited for spurs. There’s never been any explanation for why we didnt go back in for Mousa Dembele II in the summer. He ended the season with more goals than any player under 20 in the top two divisions of England, Spain, Germany, Italy or France and he’s looked supremely talented everytime I’ve seen him this season, even against the likes of Barca and City. He went to Celtic for £0.5m.

  • Horndog 😎 January 8, 2017 at 7:53 pm

Physically Vinnie is player but the poor bugger needs his head straightened out. Shame really but unless something changes drastically he is in fact Soldado.

  • tizzy January 8, 2017 at 7:52 pm

To blame Janssens display in the first 60 minutes entirely on him is a little harsh. With that team and that formation Kane would have lacked any chances and looked ordinary at best.

The idea of “no service” was the same with Bobby.

But Janssen’s problem is he doesn’t make runs forward, creating options for his supporting cast. He creates an option by dropping back out of the penalty box or coming wide, and running towards our winger.
