Super Jan Vertonghen scored a cracking goal last night against World Cup rivals Japan.

To Vert’s credit he was happy enough to confirm after the game that it was luck.

He actually just wanted to bring the ball back into the six yard area.

This 5 goal thriller made for one of the more memorable games of the tournament so far.

Being 0-2 down is one thing, but conceding in the 48th and then the 52nd minutes you look like you’re going to get taken to the cleaners.

An ‘admirable comeback’ barely covers it.

I saw no SuperJanman celebration from him.

Goal apart Verts had a torrid evening. Not entirely his fault. The back 3 got no protection from the wide players who played as wingers as opposed to wing backs. The better teams will take full advantage of that.

More bias on the Beeb as usual in the match report. Apparently the two other goals were fantastic but the ‘keeper should have done better’ with Verts header. As well as bigging up Hazard and the usual suspects, there was no acknowledgement of Verts goal changing the game.

Being a Gooner working on the World Cup must be hard without any Woolwich representation…

That must of killed a few brain cells heading that ball. It started it’s descent somewhere around the height of mount everest.
