Home Before The Postcards: £10M Deal Collapses

And so it goes on…

Juan Foyth’s agent Veron, is back from London without closing the sale of Foyth, says FOX’s Federico Beuno.

Foyth said: “I found out about Tottenham’s interest through social networks. I would like to play in Europe, if something comes up that convinces me and the club I will go,” Foyth told Radio Continental.
“I know that my agent and Veron are travelling to speak with Tottenham. I am feeling relaxed. My agent never told me that an offer had arrived from Zenit. I would not go to Russia right now. If I do go it is not because I want to, but rather to help the club out economically.”

What’s particularly depressing is that we’re experiencing such a transfer famine, that we’re even discussing nonentities like Foyth.

Some 19 year old that will – in the scheme of things – make zero improvement to a side that finished second in the league last season.

The fact that judas went to the scum for £100k pw what,20 years ago & we’ve only just broken that ceiling for Kane sort of states where we are in the pecking order for players.yes it’s unsustainable & yes they all earn good dough anyway but these are the facts.until levy decides otherwise or the powers that be introduce a wage cap we will always be looking for scraps or waifs & strays

  • paul July 15, 2017 at 4:34 pm

All we need is three quality players, front, back and middle. Seems simple enough. But when two out of those three are likely not to be first choice picks and we’re also looking for at least two of them to have premiership experience and be of the correct poch attitude, age and so on – that’s not easy. We’ll probably get one that we’re all happy with, one we’re on the fence about and one will have to be promoted from within. That’s my prediction anyway, for what it’s worth. I would like to hold on to Vinny and see him played often and early in all our least important games, i think he’s a slow burn but will get there for us eventually. Same with winks, early games, whole 90’s, all early cup games etc. And i will out myself as having a lot of time for Pamela, who i believe still has a lot more to offer.

An article in the Guardian compares the transfer fee frenzy, Walker as exhibit no 1, to the Tulip mania in 17th Century Holland, viewing figures declined last year, maybe Peak Premier League has been passed, showing more and more games just papers over the cracks. The twenty clubs in the Premier league are all in the Forbes top thirty of wealthiest brands. On the surface it all looks great, but I read a report on the Premier league recently that paints a very different picture of the financial state of clubs.

      • Willie! July 15, 2017 at 4:27 pm

I have mixed feelings. He didn’t cause a lot of public drama, and I appreciate that (night and day compared to ratboy). I believe his line about his wife wanting to be out of London and back up north. He’s got about 3-4 years left as his peak earning years, and can make 3x the wage he makes with us. He’s not exactly Einstein, so the future earning prospects aren’t great (I can’t see him as a manager, pundit, or businessman)

He’s been here long enough to know Levy’s M.O., having seen that despite having a real chance at winning the league with a few smart additions, the bald man won’t pull his finger out. So you’ve got maybe 4 years to make the nest-egg that needs to last your family for life, and have a chance at actually winning trophies in a club that isn’t afraid to pay the market rate for top talent. Despite what Unk says, faced with the same choices, pretty much all of us would do the same.

It’s easy as a tribalistic fan to moan about “I’d never do that, I’m a loyal one-club man”, but it’s fantasy. Nobody with a lick of sense turns down the chance to ensure their family is set for life. Pretending otherwise is like the people pretending that Walker- Peters and Cameron-Vickers were going to waltz into the team 3 years ago. We’ve been hearing about how we don’t really need replacements, those kids are ready to go…yet 3-4 years later, they’re still nowhere near the first XI. It’s a fantasy tribal nonsense, which is cute in it’s way, but still a nonsense. Good luck to Walker, I hope we put six past em and they get relegated while he makes a ton a money.

        • SpurAndy 🍒π July 15, 2017 at 4:34 pm

Pretty much nails it for me. Unless it’s the club that you’re a die hard fan of I defy anybody to say they wouldn’t switch to another club to guarantee their family are set for life.

  • Nick July 15, 2017 at 3:50 pm

Apart from the reports of us needing a RB that has been common knowledge for months there’s not much ITK on many other players supposedly coming to us,unlike other years when all & sundry have used us to get a new contract or bigger wages from their new employer. Are we actually not doing much in the way of business or have our leaks started to get plugged??

    • Harry Hotspur July 15, 2017 at 4:02 pm

doubt if losing walker is going to make a huge difference, and i cant see the need for signings unless pele makes a comeback . we have a very good first 11 and by all accounts a plethora of up’n coming youngsters….winks for one KWP, onohomah, janssen ,edwards and gerald witham of course…is there really a need to buy players that arent any better, and most likely a fair bit worse than we allready have?…..we cant attract the likes of messi ronaldo or bale or eplayers anywhere near that level…so whos kidding who? or should it be whom?

  • PhilBealOG July 15, 2017 at 2:12 pm

Spoke to a City fan last night to see if he is looking forward to some electric runs down the right followed by dismal crosses that get intercepted just outside the area before being hoofed down a vacant left wing. He was mainly upset that Trippier started out with City and they let him go. I did not know that – puts Wanker under even more pressure.

    • Harry Hotspur July 15, 2017 at 3:02 pm

Bonzo will be a huge failure at City. I don’t say this out of any malice. I never understood for the life of me how he got away with his shit at Spurs for so long. They will murder him.

Hmmm. Highest finish in over 50 years, CL two years running for first time ever. Best record in the League over last two years.

And yet like most I can’t stand Levy and feel disaster is at the door.

Not much will come out of the window. If we do land Barkley it will be too late to integrate him into the team. . . All the same message as over the last several years.

And yet the trajectory continues upward. I think Porky is a good manager. I think Spurs are playing good football. I can’t deny we are better off than 4 or 5 years ago. So I’ll put away my Levy voodoo doll for the moment. . . .until Spurs have 4 points from their first six games. . . .

  • Dessyspur July 15, 2017 at 1:45 pm

    Transfer windows…….. overrated.
Levy unfortunately for all of us is the master in these months of 99% bullshit blogs posting about very little of importance.
£50 m for Walker? He’s a fucking genius! and as much as selling Bale hurt me and the couple of seasons that followed were abysmal, we have progressed hugely and we do not have as much need or indeed money (albeit now addressed) to do what the others have to do.
Trippier must feel on top of the world having pushed walker out and probably has his England spot in sight too

    • mattspurs July 15, 2017 at 1:51 pm

I would love it if Trippier established himself at RB for Spurs and England

  • mattspurs July 15, 2017 at 1:45 pm

£10m for a promising South American defender with no PL experience? Foyth is desperately being touted around Europe in order to clear outstanding debts and avoid a transfer embargo. The fact that the player himself heard of interest via social media tells its own story. He’s a player that probably wouldn’t even make the bench for most matches.

The fact that rumours and interest are thin on the ground maybe point to the fact that we probably won’t be signing more than 2 players, probably Barkley +1. Truth is we may not even be signing a replacement for Walker and Poch may decide to chuck KWP in the deep end.

Poch has a pretty poor buying record – both in terms of numbers and successes. He signed 3 players in a season and a half at Southampton (one being Wanyama), Osvaldo being a transfer record and almighty flop. His Spurs record is similarly patchy though a bit more active 7 in his first season (including Fazio, Stambouli and Yedlin) 6 in his second (Tracey, N’jie) 4 in his third.

In three seasons posh has added just 4/5 first team regulars (Dier, Alli, Toby, Wanyama) and Son. Yet despite this he’s got Spurs to 3rd and 2nd.

Perhaps Walker became jealous of Tripps because he realized he was not as good an all around player as his understudy and threw a ‘shit fit.’ Just a theory. Could be a poor theory (ha) but getting this kind of money for a sulker could be a windfall if properly reinvested in the squad. Ha!!!

  • Legoverlass July 15, 2017 at 1:13 pm

Walker has pissed me off , saying he wants to win trophies, playing under guardiola etc huge club. Doesnt Levy get upset , how thick is his skin ? Citeh will be back for Rose in january and he will want to go as well , so get ready for a Rose and Poch falling out a few weeks before then . All a player has to do is argue with Pooch and he will be sold, great excuse for both parties. I think Levy’s stinginess will see our best players leave within two years. Enic sell up please asap, thanks for the stadium hope you make lots of money but you should go

    • richspurs July 15, 2017 at 12:54 pm

So. No democracy in football then. Cannot state your point of view, disagree with management, try out your own things, show initiative etc. Be careful players or you get sold for 50m smackers to a club that wins trophiex and get your wages trebled etc. Tough eh.

  • ronwol196061🇨🇦 July 15, 2017 at 10:45 am

Everybody is talking about Levy what a cheap bastard he is,how clever he is…but what about Poch?
Is he sitting on his hands????
    Who has he asked for????

    • Harry Hotspur July 15, 2017 at 10:46 am

We’ll only know that after he’s walked out.

      • ronwol196061🇨🇦 July 15, 2017 at 10:51 am

The truth is we dont know.He could very well be in total ahreement with whats happening.
If he seriously needs a player he has to put his job on the line.Amd he should.
But its all hyperbole till we know

        • UnkleTaff July 15, 2017 at 10:53 am

Don’t be ridiculous, Ron. Everyone knows what’s happening…

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? July 15, 2017 at 10:59 am

That’s what worry’s me ron. Perhaps Daniel should get the shackles out before its too late…..

      • SpurAndy 🍒π July 15, 2017 at 10:52 am

Poch is Cap’n Hook and all he can hear is that ticking clock when Levy gets near.

I couldn’t really give a monkeys about the Argentinian kid, as he is an almost unknown quantity and evidently one for the future. Nevertheless, just because Veron came away empty-handed doesn’t mean to say that there won’t be a deal. It’s just a typical Mr Buddy Buy Rite negotiating ploy, because he knows that Estudiantes need the cash to pay off debts, as has been widely reported. If we are truly interested in Foyth, then there will be further negotiations on the price, as Levy squeezes every last peso out of Estudiantes before signing off on the deal.

  • Sharon Darch July 15, 2017 at 10:37 am

This deal was never going to happen especially at £8mil Levy would of offered £2mil with £2mil with add-ons at best take it or leave it

Another top player linked. I bet Nike are enjoying the exposure for their new 30m per season kit deal…can wait to put this one on the back of my kids’ shirts.

    • Harry Hotspur July 15, 2017 at 10:42 am

Heh, that’s an aspect I hadn’t considered. Levy has pitched Kane & the Kane and that’s it. No International household names will ever seethe inside of that shirt.

      • CantSmileWithoutYou July 15, 2017 at 10:58 am

Just imagine if they put their name to the stadium this time next year. Who will Levy be picking to them then. World record fees for players but a lovely selection of Stinking Bishop, Stilitons our new RB, Camberbert and all washed down in quick served microbrewery p*** ale. Nike: “Where do we sign??!!”

        • CantSmileWithoutYou July 15, 2017 at 10:59 am

          *pitching

        • Nick July 15, 2017 at 11:36 am

What’s the name of the new right back? Stilton or Cambenbert? What is the fee

          • CantSmileWithoutYou July 15, 2017 at 1:28 pm

Camembert. 1€ from a cheap French marketplace. Undoubtedly Levy will move it on at €20 even though no one rates it…

    • Nick July 15, 2017 at 11:44 am

For the 9 old Coke bottles that go into making the mass produced, just stick a different badge on it,piece of 💩 Shirt they have produced, they are getting all the exposure they deserve

  • richspurs July 15, 2017 at 10:16 am

  • Ronan July 15, 2017 at 10:11 am

If the club is serious about winning the league for the first time in colour, the very least it should have done is keep all the players that took us to 2nd. That includes both the right-backs. Kyle Walker was voted best right-back in England last season by fellow pros, those who understand the game best. Now he’s been given to one of our main title rivals, with no prospect of him being replaced by somebody of equal ability.

THFC should not be needing to sell outstanding players to direct rivals in order to give Poch more options. Two big unanticipated financial windfalls came during the year – the giant new TV deal and consecutive CL qualifications. Money that could not have been factored into the stadium-build revenues. IMO, the players that took us to 2nd should all have been kept. Instead, a limp message has been sent out and a precedent set for next summer, esp if we fall short again.

    • richspurs July 15, 2017 at 10:17 am

Not serious about trophies. Just keep the balance sheet, er, well, balanced.

I just want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for me and all of your support over the past 8 years. I had a brilliant time at the club and can take many special memories away with me. Thank you”.
