Home » He Lied.

Tim Sherwood lied.

He waxed lyrical about the value of winning trophies, specifically winning this trophy, in his pre-match presser, then served up a side of disjointed dogsbodies.

Yes, the pitch. The pitch was awful. Possibly more awful than the one I remember playing on in a schoolboy tournament. As I remember it, there were molehills around two of the corner flags, and an indent in the grass along one of the wings, that looked as if a medieval ploughing device had gouged a 20 yard by 3″ furrow.

We will score at White Hart Lane, guaranteed, but it depends how many we will have to score.” said Tim.

At some point before this game Tim woke up with soiled sheets panicking over the impending trip to Carrow Road to face the mighty Norwich; the 5th worst side, with the 6th worst form in the Premier League.

Either that or he made a calculated decision not to waste his time.

My considered guess is, that it was the latter.

The problem now, is that he has given Spurs fans a game to moan about, raised more question marks over his tactical nouse, as well as depressed Soldado further.

Tactically, Tim reverted to type. The formation wasn’t 442 though, it was 460. One of the major problems was that with no Mousa, there really wasn’t any coherent link up play.

Brad saved our bacon. It was an extraordinary performance from Friedel, I’ve never seen him be as proactive. Dnipro’s finishing was hardly world class, but they kept on breaking through, and Brad was routinely excellent.

Michael Dawson frequently looked like he was wearing anti gravity boots, like the prisoners in the movie Face Off.

Kyle Naughton and Danny Rose need letting go on a free to Atletico Lowestoft or similar. I’m sick to death of these two doing footballer impressions.

Tattoos, posturing, clumsy professional fouls and bickering with the referee. This pair really need to naff off and pay their dues somewhere. Pay their dues, be better at playing football and stop being precious bitches. An embarrassment to the badge.

Vertonghen alternates between looking bored and looking like he’s waiting to be told there’s been a dreadful mistake and he can go home. His body language is awful; he needs to buck up. Superjan? The Piddler, more like.

Paulinho, Capoue and Bentaleb didn’t work. I’m not saying this combo will never work, but they will need some instruction. Bentleb was frequently playing over-safe passes, when he wasn’t too far up the field to no good purpose. Chadli was doing alright, until he was moved to mop up Naughton’s deficiencies.

Townsend was hopeless. If it isn’t about him doing his all too predictable cut in, shoot, wince; he isn’t interested. Doesn’t defend, incapable of lucid thought. I genuinely believe we should sell him this summer as a couple of World Cup appearances will take his market value to the highest it will ever, ever reach.

Soldado: why on earth didn’t we send Defoe instead?
