An guest blog from one of our most cherished friends, not to mention a highly esteemed Spurs fan, Habib!

Why I still do not think Mourinho is an automatic shoo in for Manchester United manager….

Mourinho has no record of developing youth. What he has is the ability to deliver instant success, more so than any living manager.

Manchester United are the biggest club in the world by many measures. And they have become that by holding true to some core principles: Developing youth and by having consistent success while playing attractive football. But they are a confused club. This is not unusual.

Whenever a powerful dictator leaves, the institutions that thrive on his instincts are rendered meaningless. From the academy to the board the club is still recovering from the departure of the most successful manager in English history.

Related to instant success is do you sacrifice exciting football to achieve it?

The confusion shows up in how they are behaving with regards to their traditions. United like giving their managers time.

But Moyes didn’t get as much as tradition demanded. Certainly the performances after him by LVG show that Moyes might have deserved that time.

Again spending insane money on Falcao and Di Maria showed a club trying to buy their way to success like Chelsea and City. While previously they had shown that kind of muscle but for young players like Rooney and Rio.

So what is it? Youth or established? Give manager time or not give him time? Wait for success or instant success?

The only manager that can manage United the United way, deliver instant success while playing exciting football, develop youth and is young enough that he can forge another dynasty, and is not outspoken and craves media attention (Which United as a brand and its board hate) is not Mourinho.

It’s Pochettino. Ruthless. Ambitious.

With an incredibly modern system. A manager youth respond to and who has given over half of the new players to the English team in last 3 years. A manager who in 18 months has Spurs challenging for the title with near zero net spend.

No doubt United power brokers would have looked on with joy as he defeated their wealthy arch rivals City twice this season while scoring 6 goals!

It is clear to me that there is a powerful lobby led by Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex who are anti-Mourinho.

And it is my belief they have want Pochettino as the next United manager. Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to Sky Sports recently in which he heaped praise on Pochettino and called him the best manager in the league. This was not an interview requested by Sky Sports.

Rather Sir Alex approached them first. I believe Mourinho will only get the job if Pochettino refuses it.

And I agree with them. Rashford, Martial, Fonsu-Mensah, and Lingard managed by Pochettino as the core of a young attacking team is a scary scary thought.

This will be an interesting summer.
