I’m not sure I’ve witnessed football or indeed anything quite so debased as the League cup was last night.

The League cup is gone. Instead we’ve got a tournament that nobody wants to play in and nobody wants to sponsor.

The game wasn’t broadcast by anyone and so only the lost souls who clung to each other amongst the 75,000 empty seats watched the disjointed mess that unfolded.

Even at fivers and tenners Wembley was far too arduous an undertaking for any rightminded person.

Anyone who tells you that they were there will undoubtedly do so in the same manner of those that tell you they heard an IRA bomb go off in the 1970s. With a reluctance and acceptance.

Spurs won and Dele Alli scored and so all is right with the world, eh? Marvellous. Heart warming.

look at the low attendance last night if Poch will not take it serious why should we continue to shell out for tickets for a second rate waste of time thank god there was not extra time i dread to think what time id have got home

Its sad. Over the years its been a great competition with some classic encounters and top atmospheres. Remember Grimsby away I think one of Jols first games, brilliant full house, massive travalling Spurs contingent, it was the match that endeared Jol to us. 3 nil I think. Many many cup nights and now look at it…3-0 at Utd with Nayims volley…..
the 5-1?)….football is just snobs now. Once again, the price of everything the value of nothing. P.S. one of my early happy football moments came in the league cup when Luton turned over the scum in the final. Super duper. Sad demise.

Agree about the LC Harry. I think it’s a lost cause so I’d debase it even more by ruling out teams that are in the CL. It’s barely better than the Checkatrade egg cup.

    • Harry Hotspur September 20, 2017 at 10:39 am

      It’s grim business.

  • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:19 am

Poch on Dele – β€œIt is a period that he needs to find his balance but I am so happy, his performance was good. He tried and scored and that is fantastic.”

So the fact that he “tried” is now grounds for praise? Poch is really scratching around for positives now.

    • Camus September 20, 2017 at 10:24 am

Suggests something was amiss behind the scenes. Unless it’s Poch’s poor English.

      • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:47 am

Bit of both I reckon, it’s hard to contain the hype around Dele. Not saying it’s directly Dele’s fault but pic doesn’t seem like the kind of manager to take kindly to big egos.

Didn’t he split from his selfie obsessed girlfriend or sumfink?

There’s still an alarming number of fans of ours that still trot and misquote Bill Nic with the old “the game is about glory” with regards to the League Cup.

In the context of what this trophy means today I’m pretty sure Bill wouldn’t have regarded the winning of this cup (now even sponsored by an energy drink that should come with a health warning) as “glory”.

We all want to win something but when a competition is quite so downgraded and devalued as the League Cup then hunting bigger trophies is closer to the definition of ‘glory’ than going all out to win this shite fest.

Finally the penny has dropped, thank feck for that…

    • Spiderneil September 20, 2017 at 10:25 am

You say this and I agree that so far this season it has been an absolute shithaul but when it comes to the business end of the competition when all the chaff has been knocked out it becomes more hyped and is still a trophy worth winning in my opinion.

      • Camus September 20, 2017 at 10:27 am

Agree with that. Even the Charity Shield goes on Mourinho’s CV.

      • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:48 am

When all else is lost? Glory? Not for me…

      • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:51 am

I couldn’t give a shit about winning the League Cup, I see top four as more of an achievement and lets face it it is. Ok, if we make top four AND add that trophy then great but we are in the C.League and have an outside shout at the title.

I’d go a bit harder in the F.A Cup but on the road to success this is one to leave in the lay-by for now….

  • Camus September 20, 2017 at 9:27 am

I’ve found someone who can play the “Sissoko role”…

    • MysteriousStranger September 20, 2017 at 9:48 am

Didn’t you see Harry’s polite notice? He had a complaint from an advertiser and asked for no more “boob pics”. I expect his request stretches to arseholes too. Keep it clean.

      • Freund or Foe September 20, 2017 at 9:55 am

        I`m feeling rebellious today.

    • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:00 am

Where can I buy one of those?

      • Camus September 20, 2017 at 10:20 am

        Asking for a friend?

  • Camus September 20, 2017 at 9:26 am

I hear Foyth did okay, Lorente less so and that N’Koudou provide a bit of spark. Would like to see N’Koudou taking Sissoko’s place as the season progresses. Otherwise, as Glos keeps saying, we may as well have a blow-up gimp doll in Sissoko’s shirt.

    • East Stand September 20, 2017 at 10:13 am

That aren’t used to playing to up to player like Loriente yet, Kane is unique kind of forward, a real all rounder. They need to play to Loriente’s strengths, he’s a more traditional target man and you need to have plan to supply him in the right way.

Loriente need to play quite a lot to get him integrated but I expect him to get 10 mins at the end of most league games, which will be complete waste of everybody’s time…

      • AccringtonSpurs September 20, 2017 at 10:20 am

Why are we perpetually stuck with these players whose “strengths we have to play to” ?

Soldado didn’t work. Why will it work this time?

        Shit purchase.

        • Camus September 20, 2017 at 10:26 am

          It’s a fair shout, Ron.

  • TheCincinnatiYid September 20, 2017 at 9:20 am

Not inspiring but they won. Reminds me of the 1-0 “victory” over Wolves some years back, the year a Redscnapps team lost in the finals at Wembley. Editors Note: Not sure it was Wolves, not sure it was League Cup or FA. Only point–it’s still a win, better for most than a loss, and it was hardly an inspiring XI on the pitch. Won without trotting out HK or CE.
