Forensic Player Analysis

By The Boy -
My thanks to the superb Forensic Onions

Lloris – One dodgy moment, but one of his best performances this season generally, some good saves.

Trippier – Worked hard, saw a lot of the ball, but was well martialed for the most part and didn’t contribute enough of quality.

Alderwiereld – Stepped out of defence well, good game.

Sanchez – Mitrovic gave him a torrid time, as he can do, he didn’t always come out entirely on top, but didn’t wilt either. Tough game, but kept at it.

Vertonghen – Like TA, stepped out with the ball well throughout.

Rose – As ever he gets plaudits for his intentions, as ever, would love to see some composure from him in good positions. Decent effort though.

Winks – Absolutely superb today. Made the most ball recoveries (11). Defensively is learning and improving every game. Constantly plays with his head up, and from the first minute was looking forwards.

Most passes in opposition half (72), most forward passes by a mile (43), 91 passes completed. I like that he can move with ball too.

Today, we saw a different Winks, getting into forward zones, and looking to play more incisive passes (like the one that played Rose into the box). Great game. MOTM

Byte sweatshirt

Eriksen – I was a little disappointed with his lack of risk taking first half, but maybe playing in a CM2 system does hamstring him a little, especially when the opposition are a bit lively. Still came up with a vital assist, and did work hard and saw plenty of the ball.

Lamela – Pretty poor game to be honest, was erratic and careless at times, this is partly Lamela’s DNA, but I guess not helped when you aren’t playing regularly either.

Alli – Much like Lamela, found the condensed spaces hard to operate in, and frittered away the ball too cheaply at times and goal aside didn’t really give the game much tangible quality product, but did put in effort.

Llorente – This is going to be a tough few weeks. Ignoring the wasted chances, Kane wastes chances, you just don’t get that all action, uberness that Kane brings, and without the effervescent Son to fill in, we really missed that energy.

Completed 9 passes. Not a good day, but then when you are starting your first league game of the season in January, I guess it’s not ideal either.

Nkoudou – Absolutely superb cross for the winner.

Don’t get democracy confused with individual choice. As part of a democratic process you have to accept the choice. As an individual you have the option to leave if you wish. As do companies. I voted remain, but I will back leave till the cows come home as that is what the nation voted for. Do I think it was a good idea…no, do I think the UK will be ok…yes of course. If I had the money to leave the UK I would (not just leave, but afford to travel back regularly enough for family), not because of Brexit but because I like hot places. So London, Scotland, Manchester all voted to remain, sadly they lost, as a democratic country they need to accept it and make the best of it. That is where all the “marches” and MP’s are getting it wrong. Just because you don’t like the result doesn’t make it wrong.

You need a plan B, and that only comes with players that can offer a different dimension. I believe you need 2 good (or better) players in all positions, and then 3rd option should be youth. Then if your plan B requires new rotation (i.e going from 4 at the back to 3 plus wing backs) then your options need to allow that, with cover. Attacking your back up needs to be different to your main player to offer variability, but your players need to adapt to suit the new player…i.e Llorente is not that bad, but he is not suitable to how we play and we don’t change for him.

End of the day, we are the customers of government, if you don’t like the way its going, leave…sadly that is not a real option for most, but the top 1% can…they represent 20% of our taxes and can easily leave.

The difference is, there was nothing wrong with Paulinho except our managers’ inability to utilize him to good effect. You don’t hold down the starting #8 in the Brazil squad without more talent than at least 90% of the players in the Prem. Barca were smart enough to buy him and get good mileage out of him. He got 8 goals in 27 games his first year with us, playing under the confused, constipated AVB style half the year, and the self absorbed round peg square hole style of Timmy “Gilet” Shitwood. Poch barely played him, and we sold him on during his prime, at 28yo, to a Chinese team/league trying to build global credibility and flush with cash .

There’s a million reasons to hate him. Well 637 million for now, aside from the totally unacceptable transfer situation. But I just look at that and think that we are talking abiut a man who hasn’t communicated anything to the thousands of people who have paid good chunks of cash to see the team play there. Yet first chance he can wheel his American pals in he does it. Shouldn’t really be surprised, but it’s in very bad taste for me

Branson as an individual yes, but Virgin has remained a UK based company paying taxes. Although they are reviewing where they will stay depending on the deal of Brexit. I actually judge remainers that leave less than leavers that leave. Had we voted remain it would be the other way around.

I blame FIFA (the game) as its almost impossible to score a cross in that game, best move is to work it to the D or get to the byeline and cut it back to the edge of the 6. Personally as a VERY old defender, I used to prefer strikers facing me, crossed balls between me and the goal were a nightmare. To be honest, crosses in general meant that you couldn’t get a proper vision of your surroundings meaning what you have to do is deal with the ball only. A defender prefers to play football like snooker/chess, wants to know the move after the clearance is safe.

Because the man can’t even have the decency to explain to 42000people who he’s had cash off what’s going on. This is the man who told everyone September. Now I’m gonna go out on alimb here and say he knew that wasn’t realistic. So sorry, if he had an ounce of decency or an honest bone in his body he’d get alot more room to manoeuvre. But as he chooses his path then he must walk it. OK the striker thing is nothing to do with it, but the fact we are basically on the verge of becoming a very good five a side team, with limited attacking abilities granted, is down to a transfer policy. Of sorts. And I’d be delighted if the little bald twat took my wife away!!!

I just cant get my head around it…you only have to look at the team to see that “Replacing Kane” is next to impossible, however, he is not the issue. Our fullbacks are average, both out best CB’s are talking about leaving, our Keeper is weigning (and although we have Gazza, we will need a backup), our central midfield is so poor Sissoko is being missed. Only area we are strong is attack, and that is where we have lost 3 out of 4 of our best players. To say “we cant replace Kane so why bother…” is crazy!

How can you associate allowing a few hundred into a completed bar as spending millions on a striker and allowing 60k plus into the stadium. He is milking the cash cow early. I agree he is a tosser, and the stadium is making this worse, but this is irrelevant. The way people talk on here sometimes is crazy…”My wife left me…I blame ENIC..!” they have done enough bad things to be hung by their own actions, making them responsible for other things makes it look like you have an axe to grind rather than legitimate issues.

Other teams manage two first choice strikers. It’s nonsense to suggest a good striker won’t come to ‘sit’ on the bench. There’s enough football over a season to give enough football to both.

Things happen…. Injury and suspension.

What has to happen…. The manager has to have proper rotation.

Also, pay strategy, pay the going rate and players will come. Sadly our chairman has a reputation of not doing so, so we always end up in the be bargain basement.

My crystal ball tells me that Spurs won’t win silverware with ENIC at the helm.

The top 8 now compiled of Watford and Wolves plus the elites. Look at our record against that top 8 this season….. It is astonishing we are 3rd and 4 points clear of 4th!? It really does speak volumes of the poor quality of the division. If we get CL placing this season itl be the most unbelievable result in Prem history with zero investment and no squad before all the injuries, let alone now. Astounding blag from Levy, he deserves nothing.

That was a tough watch. I lost count of the back and sideways passes. It’s a pattern of play we seem to adopt when we lose our spark.

Winks aside I thought we were poor against one of the poorest teams in the league. We seem sometimes to play to the lowest denominator.

Moving on to Thurs in a game we must win, I’m not confident the 1-0 will be enough. Both teams without a striker. I fancy them to raise their game over ours.

Why oh why can’t modern players put an early ball into the Effing box??!! Its an epidemic!! They all do it! ..
Literally, Super Jan broke the rule and put a ball into Llorente that he should have scored.. Then we didn’t do it for 30 mins until Ali scored..
Then…. I spent 25 mins shouting at the screen because none of our players wouls just f*****g whip it in!!!!… What happened when N’cluedo crossed it??!!!

Why is it out of fashion??
Why do so many teams think they have to score goals that are built up through short passes & through balls??

Last season it might have been true as Kane was obsessed with own scoring tally.

This season it is obvious he is playing more for the team so should be amenable to the argument ‘a strong back up is required and that means a minimum 15-20 starts a season’.

You might envisage six to ten starts in domestic cups, six to twelve EPL/Europe starts. You also might want someone fully rested over the summer, a full pre season done and ready to fly out of the traps when Kane is still ramping up after June exertions.

You will not get anyone better to make 5 starts a season and 15 ten minute subs appearances. You would earn more starting every week for Watford, Leicester, Bournemouth or Brighton. And enjoy life more.

You get paid a lot more to be a bum warmer at the other top six clubs than you would at Spurs.

Reading on another blog that (basically based on the Fulham game) we should not be moaning about spending because we would never afford a player that was as good as Kane and willing to sit on the bench…I agree with that 100%, but that is assuming there is no middle ground between the worlds best striker and Llorente that we could afford. Also that a better quality bench would not lead to a better rotation and game handling substitions. Its like people think there are only 2 ways to buy players, either buy the absolute best or buy the cheapest and hope for the best!
