This weekend is all about the FA Cup.

Aside from the expression on World Cup winner Víctor Valdés’ face as he runs out for Manchester United at the Abbey Stadium tonight, one of the most interesting things to look out for might be how Sheffield United get on.

Whilst our game against the Blades wasn’t easy on the eye – in hindsight – our 1-0 advantage wasn’t quite as poor a result as we thought it was, even if it was frequently super dull to watch.

A number of pundits speculating upon our game against Leicester City have made the point, it all depends on what Spurs side shows up. The one that beat Chelsea, or the the one that might struggle to fight it’s way out of a wet paper bag.

We beat City on Boxing Day. A Kaneinho goal in the opening minute was followed by 20 minutes of comfortable enough Spurs play, then followed by another 50 minutes of the Foxes dominating, scoring and then left feeling desperately short changed when Christian Syrupson scored our second, and the winner on 70 minutes.

Leicester boss Pearson said:

I don’t know where the black cat is and whether we have run it over but it is a particularly disappointing outcome because our performance was very good. We caused them a lot of problems but are falling short of seeing games through.”

The boss has commented upon the Captaincy mess the club has created, when asked about who will lead out the team when we play City in the FA Cup.

It depends on my decision when I select the players. If Kaboul or Lloris are on the pitch, it’s not possible because Younes Kaboul is the captain.”

Asked if it would be better for the team if Adebayor wasn’t booed, Poch added:

I think this is the best because all players need to feel the support from the stands from our supporters. I think it’s better for him and for the team. We always need to create a great atmosphere to try to get success.”

Nothing earth shattering there. Yes of course it would be great if everyone supporting Spurs let out a resounding hurrah! when Adebayor’s name is called out. But clearly a significant number of people are exasperated with the bloke.

I don’t think booing can be remotely viewed as an agreeable thing. Nobody ever was booed into delivering a better performance, other than perhaps a pantomime villain of course. My take is that fans are by and large a reasonable bunch, but if their patience becomes tested, then the consequences can be unpleasant.

Ade’s been indulged beyond belief and all one can hope is that the boos are penetrating even his tripleglazed ego, and that urgently starts looking for some new mugs to pay him £120,000 per week.

I’d like Hugo to start tomorrow, and I’d like Soldado to start ahead of Adebayor, for footballing reasons.

Oh, and I’d like us to win something this season, opposed to talk about securing fourth place and failing to achieve it. Again.
