There is “no doubt” Real Madrid want to sign Harry Kane, the club’s former president has told The Sun.

The Spanish giants will be seeking a star striker to help close the gap with LaLiga leaders Barcelona next season, with the Tottenham star their long-term choice, Ramon Calderon told the paper. He said Real will have to overcome Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s unwillingness to sell Kane, 24, and any deal would cost “a fortune”.

Bernabeu chiefs are said to be also considering Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich’s 29-year-old striker who captains the Poland national team.

Calderon told SunSport: “The objective for Real Madrid, no doubt, is Kane. “If they want a player for the next five or six years they are going to go for Kane but [Spurs chairman Daniel] Levy is going to ask a fortune for him.”

Spurs fans need to wake up to a few home truths here.

The New Destination™ will 100% leave Spurs as financially emasculated as it has ever been.

This means very limited player retention and no show-stopping additions to the squad.

Harry Kane’s loyalty (no laughing at the back, please) won’t be the only one tested to it’s very breaking point.

It was unthinkable that Manchester United would sell Cristiano Ronaldo. He went.

It was unthinkable that Spurs would sell Gareth Bale. He went.

Elsewhere, the Tottenham starting XI is ageing, and is Pochettino wants four more years to build, then it simply will not happen with this team.

Lloris, Vertonghen, Rose and Dembele just for four examples will absolutely not be at the top of their game in 4 years time.

The timing of this whole brave new world guff has been appalling and as has been stated on numerous occasions, change is something Levy & Co., routinely handle in a miserable manner.

Fans are staring at a distinctly challenging future that could have been much better dealt with had Spurs stayed at The Lane and built a side under Poch with a winning mentality.

You build by winning, not by acquiring land.

Sharply, ENICs approach has been revealed as being somewhere between risible and mercenary.

Still there are Flat Earthers mumbling incoherently about the inability of Tottenham to compete with the big clubs.

Bottom line is ENIC resisted investing whilst others did legally.

Now it is no longer possible to sink money in order to significantly advantage the football team.

However Manchester United, Chelsea and City are all still flying commercially the back of their form for winning.

They command vastly superior sponsorships and use that money to reinforce the football team.

Liverpool did what ENIC would deem wholly unpalatable.

They shipped in a manager and backed him, the fools!

Out went a whole raft of junk including a very ropey defense and in came some sensible buys and a world class striker.

The irony must not be missed by Spurs fans that THFC is more closely aligned to the sinking and unpopular model used at Arsenal.

It depends upon your outlook as to whether you’ll accept these evidence based facts as certainties or not.

I can’t make you see sense.

The irritant phrase ‘enjoying the ride’ is proffered up less frequently thank goodness, but it still used as masking language, in the vain attempt to distract from the reality of what real building is.

Liverpool are in fact rebuilding. So are Chelsea, City and Manchester United.

Rebuilding by winning and by being seen to go all out to win.

None of these clubs are foisting Cheese Rooms and £2,200 seats that come with a private lavatory included.

It feels to me as if Spurs are being plumped for an asset stripping exercise.

The only true asset a club has are the marketing rights, by the way.

My fear is that no matter how sore the teats on the Client Reference Numbers become, ENIC won’t give a damn. They aren’t the RSPCA.

There’ll be some other upwardly mobile consumer behind them with a fresh ripe udder swinging from them.

The football doesn’t need to succeed in either the ENIC or Kroenke models.

Arsenal fans protested by not occupying seats – already paid for – this is simply beyond parody.

Their board reacted by firing their best manager ever and will now hire some other stooge and not give him enough cash either!

Our first season at our new gaff will be more or less alright.

The following one will be what is know in the music industry as the ‘difficult second album’.

When Botch gets his Pay off it will come with a Gagging Order, Blanchflower refused to sign one while at Spurs, same applies to players leaving. So the Ref Numbers will never know the real story with Baldy, Enic or whatever 👍🏾

In a rare moment of compassion for another club’s player, I feel bad for Ox-Chamberlain, but it was a bit of a rash and perhaps unnecessarily full-bloodied tackle. He seems to play with his heart and not his head and consequently is, unfortunately, always one of those players who you suspect will get injured before a major tournament/cup final etc.

I’m not advocating being a coward but I think you have to use your head a bit and, as a midfielder, think “does this tackle define the game, or my career?”

Meanwhile, the Windrush Scandal fall out is seeing some interesting stories appear.

The British High Commissioner is sent to Trinidad in 2011, his British wife had a baby out there. When they applied for a passport for their child in 2014 prior to their return to England, they were refused. For a while their child was stateless. Un-fucking believable behaviour by the Home Office under Theresa May towards their own civil servant on Crown Duty.

To go back to the Windrush “scandal” Politicians don’t give a fuck until they’re made to,that said the windrush generation has had 50 odd years to sort out their paperwork & must of had the opportunity to be legally represented in some way shape or form,National insurance number, polling cards,Council tax.I firmly believe at least a few have dwelt under the system to suit themselves & only complained once the 💩 hit the fan

I can see Poch as Chelsea manager. They’ve collected the best teenage talent in their youth set up but have never had a manager who cares to use them. He would.

Also, Abramovich has tightened the purse strings or is trying to. He knows he is exposed for a colossal debt and is reining in the expensive buys. He sees Poch working on a shoestring and probably is attracted to that.

      • Nick April 26, 2018 at 12:08 am

Poch has been very lucky in English football,Southampton have had one of the best youth/academy set ups for a very long time continually bringing through decent players to 1st team level. He was also allowed to add to that with purchases. At Spurs the emergence of Harry Kane along side a previously well built squad has been aided again with astute purchases that apart from alderweireld & Wanyama Had little to do with poch.If that’s working on a shoestring then he’ll do well

        • gloster1861 April 26, 2018 at 12:10 am

  • a waddle and a fork April 25, 2018 at 9:44 pm

We may have less money than ever but we have NEVER spent any money anyway. We are a selling club with horrendously low wages. Players in the relegation zone are getting paid more than Alderwereld. We simply allow it to happen. Our defence was magnificent for two seasons mainly because of Toby. The players are not gonna sit there and make no money and watch the key players that make the team tick leave. They wont. Its going to be like RATS.

They’re also getting paid more than Ederson, Kompany, Otamendi, John Stones, Benjamin Mendy, Aymeric Laporte, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sané, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Matic, Anthony Martial, Macus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, every player at Liverpool apart from Van Dijk, every player at Arsenal apart from Özil and Aubameyan.
      To name but a few.

Apparently there were banners up during the City game “don’t price me out” by the AMF Tottenham?? Problem is for example…I listen to The Spurs show which is ok most of the time, however not one of them really had a problem with the pricing which I found disappointing. I would of thought they would look at it with more perspective and not just from their own circumstances. Don’t believe it got much coverage, I didn’t realise it had happened.

“If it doesn’t effect me it doesn’t matter”, much like most peoples attitude in life..

I don’t understand why people can’t see what is happening to Spurs. “Pay up and pay off my debt” “then I might invest”…

The clubs assists are split into 10’s of different companies. This business model is set up to make a good return annually for Levy. I’m not convinced we will be sold, who will buy now. Selling the club would of made sense after planning approval. A new owner could of built a wonderful 400-500m pound stadium rather than a 5star entertainment complex. Who will pay 1.5B for a club that doesn’t win anything and would have to invest another 500m in players? It doesn’t seem attractive anymore to potential owners at that price.

    Interesting summer ahead………..

levy. if I pay shit wages no top top expensive player will want to come here so I wont have to spend big money. Clever 🙂

    • MysteriousStranger April 25, 2018 at 7:15 pm

Don’t forget the “If I pay myself over twice the amount the nearest equivalent CEO/Chairman earns in the Premier League, that will put the noses of some of the higher earning players out, who will want to earn more themselves, possibly something closer to parity with their fellow equivalents in the Top 6. Of course I won’t pay them that, so they’ll want to leave, which I want them to do, so I can sell them for a lot and bring in some younger, cheaper versions before these older cunts lose their sell on value, and thus justify for myself another disproportionate pay rise – woo hoo! The fans are stupid enough to put up with this and I’ll prove it, mwahahaha!”

  • AntSpurs April 25, 2018 at 1:39 pm

Ant, you need to lay off the drugs and booze.

Martial is probably valued at about £55million.

Your perception of what Sessegnon is also off beam.

People will click on here and think it’s Vital

For the benefit of not seeming to be completely nuts or off my nut.

Re: Martial – Based on Danny Roses comments about being closer to home and being highly unlikely that City would want him, Utd and Liverpoool would be the obvious suitors. Let’s say it’s Utd.

My top scenarios for this would be:
    1. Rose + £50M for Rashford
    2. Straight swop for Shaw – some cashback may be but I would show Shaw that he is worth no less than Rose – Poch will get him up to speed in no time.
    3. Rose + £15M for Martial.

If Toby is going then ideally we should not be strengthening a rival any further, however if he wants to join Utd, coupled with Rose, then DL should go for all 3 and I’d say there’s room to squeeze to get the lot (if they want to come to spurs of course) for £20M or so on top.

Rashford is highly unlikely not for sale, however this may change if Mourinho is going in for another striker and if they really want Tobes and he wants no one else then why not go for all 3 ?

    • AntSpurs April 25, 2018 at 1:41 pm

Re Sessegnon: he’s a talented 17 year old.

      • DAVID April 25, 2018 at 4:45 pm

My concern with Rose is that Jose will get him fit and back on form and we will end up with an inferior replacement .

        • AntSpurs April 25, 2018 at 6:12 pm

I have no doubt that Rose will get back to playing really well but I also believe that we’ll have a younger, fitter, smarter and more loyal player in Shaw with a point to prove. When fit he plays just as well as Rose does, even better going forward.

This all comes down to the whole reason you supported the club in the first place.

We support Spurs because of the heritage, which is disappearing further and further into the distance. The Double Side of the sixties, the European and FA cup glories when those comps actually mattered. The style of play, the Hoddles and the Gazzas and the general swagger.

ENIC have (bar 1 League Cup a decade ago) now pushed that legacy 17 years further into the dim and distant past. Yet they have the cheek to prattle on about ‘legacy sashes’ and paste up Bill Nic’s ‘The Game Is About Glory’ as and when it suits them for marketing opportunities.

ENIC and Levy are dull venture capitalists, that’s fine but are these the right people to run our football club?

Fenway Sports who own Liverpool have a clear and proven model from also owning the Boston Red Sox that you need something exciting happening on the field in order to grow your brand. That’s why they are putting some of their own money in and paying the going rate to actually replace a player like Coutinho with player like Salah.

We don’t compete with Liverpool or Arsenal on wages and our net spend is seventh highest in the league, forget comparisons with Citeh, Utd or Chavski.

Levy doesn’t even spend as much as teams we finish above so how anyone can pull Poch and his backroom staff up for failing in the odd big fixture is beyond me.

Poch is the a miracle worker getting top 4 and doing it again without a home ground, beating Chavski away for the first time since Lineker scored the winner there, longest unbeaten run since the bloody 1950’s or whatever. What do people fucking expect? You can’t get blood out of a stone and neither can Poch.

Tactics facking schmactics…. If Levy wants a tactical guy like Maureen that only works with highly paid established world renowned players (“that you don’t need Google to find out about”) then he’d better pay him and the squad the going rate then we can start asking why we aren’t winning everything there is to win.

Poch is there to develop players primarily so they can be sold on and yet another development player is bought for peanuts to replace them. Walker for Aurierfor example, you get the idea.

Sanchez, the Arsenal cast off is earning 600k a week! Ozil is on 300k, I could go on.

I’m not expecting us to pay the same across the squad what City and Utd or even Chavs pay but perhaps pay players that finish 4th consistently on a par with teams that finish below us! Bonuses don’t work when players know that their international team mate who’s playing at Arsenal earns a better basic than they do and isn’t subjected to double sessions on daily basis either.

ENIC and Levy need to put up or shut up or better still sell up unless they are prepared to compete. It’s taken them 17 years to get to this point, it’s been glacial this improvement to 4th place and without Poch it wouldn’t be happening anyway.

Bored of Levy pleading poverty for getting on for 20 years, please find a buyer if you don’t have the balls. Baldy…

    • chrism090861 April 25, 2018 at 11:19 am

Agree, I think Poch has done wonders with what he has been given. To me personally, one of the best things he did was get rid of the freeloaders at the club, such as Adebayor, Kaboul etc. he created fantastic team unity, improved a lot of the players, and for two seasons we chased down the eventual winners of the prem. I know it’s all ‘Nearly’, but it has made for some exciting times, especially the last season at the lane where we ran riot !!

Totally agree with East Stand’s points down below. Mind you, I did warn everyone when I first came on this site 2 years ago that the new stadium was the elephant in the house and that we quite possibly wouldn’t have the funds to finish off our team building. It’s amazing how this smuck Levy can trouser six million for himself when we never win a trophy. I don’t see the point of having the flashiest stadium in the country when we’re only no 3 in our own city (I think arsenal and Chelsea have each won 11 championships and FA Cups since we last won either of our two most prestigious domestic comps – the FA cup, sadly, not that prestigious now)

  • Harry Hotspur April 25, 2018 at 10:42 am

The second hit analogy is poignant. No doubt we’ll all be overwhelmed by the new majestic space ship in Tottenham High Road but ultimately at the end of the day its a winning and entertaining football side I want to see.

Once STHs like me realise that they are subsidising the elite and the sliding pitch (I have absolutely no interest in grid iron and didnt ask for it) then things cvould get bad.

The only way out is for some serious wage restructuring and player investment THIS pre-season especially as it looks as if at least 3 good’ns are off but with Levy I just cant’ see it – there will ALWAYS be an excuse.

Out of interest H, how many home/away games to you actually attend?

These days I occasionally go to away games. They are always fun. They always were and wish I’d done that more when I was younger. I hadn’t been to The Lane for at least 2 seasons.

It does make me grin when (you aren’t here, I hesitate to add) I am accused of being some wanker that ‘doesn’t go to games’.

The wanker bit is right, but you don’t tell Freddie Foreman he’s a wanker because he doesn’t dispose of bodies anymore, do you?

Curiously I went to more matches when I lived overseas. Which may say more about my personal life then.

These days I prioritise other expensive habits including one in particular that has my DNA sloshing about in it. I also live comparatively well.

    Sin after sin!

I agree Harry. I had a season ticket for many years, and predominantly during the ‘Hoddle Management Years’, where i got totally fed up watching 35 year old Teddy, 37 year old les Ferdinand, and 36 year old Gus Poyet running around, that i decided to give up the season ticket. I go to many games now, family commitments permitting, but i dont feel that this makes me any less a fan that someone like my brother in law, who has had a season ticket for the last 30 years !!

Nah, just curious that’s all – I was secretly laying a trap to see if you were an Arsenal fan :-)))))

Coincidentally its only the last 3-4 seasons I have been watching more away games and they can be a blast, travelling up on the train or by coach with your mates and in the latter case sitting crossed legged counting the miles to the next service station.

Even more of a coincidence but I worked abroad from 1990 for 10 years so I missed alot of home games during that largely awful period but still remained faithful, retaining my ST for happier days.

As you’ve deduced Ive renewed for next season but there has to be tangible signs that Levy has an immediate (positive) plan for the team. Travel hopefully!

I smell a Levyesque sale of one or two big names. It may be Kane but I have a feeling that Eriksen will push for a move to Barcelona and to be honest I might consider a sale of Ali to RM. Toby is gone maybe to City or Man Utd and Rose will go to Man Utd as we look to ensure that the the two Mancs stay firmly at the top table. Dembele will also look to move for a final contract deal and a chance of some football success as a result of wasting his prime time career years at our club with ENIC. Levy will be slithering around in the shadows pushing Pooch into the spotlight to take the flack which he deserves for being a patsy to him. I get a feeling we may see the Bale boy head back our way as some sort of peace maker deal with the fans and a splash of publicity for the new stadium. That may mean Kane goes the other way unless they think Ali is worth a punt.

My naivety has led me to believe that the idea of having a brand new double-size stadium is so that, and i quote ‘We can compete with the other ‘Moneyed’ clubs in terms of player recruitment and salaries’. If Levy charges fans a premium to watch games, factor in the money from our Champions League participation, sponsorship on a larger scale, and then still rolls out excuses for not paying the going rate for players to ‘Improve’ the team, and pay the going rate for player salaries, then yes, we will just tread water amongst the top 6-8 clubs in the prem, and make the odd venture into the top 4 to qualify for CL. I’ve said this before, we need a few quality additions to really take us on to a new level, not an entire team.

As I say there will always be an excuse with Levy.

How can He justify paying himself over the odds but not pay players the going rate?

ps we cannot afford to tread water. Like any business of you plateau there’s only one way you’ll go

        It’s the big tell isn’t?

A CEO that delivers massive ROI but fak all silverware takes home more money that the Prime-minister…

Levy is a genius. I the wrong pissing sector.

        What luck.

New stadium is going to be great but with one snag, we owe the bank £500 Million or perhaps even more 😳 and they fully expect us to pay it all back with interest 😑

  • Accy April 25, 2018 at 10:26 am

This from a flat earther on SC:

Would love KWP a to have a few games now though. Think he could be class and save us a lot of money

Just as Maggie Thatcher’s greatest achievement was New Labour, ENIC’s greatest achievement was getting the fanbase to celebrate sheckel counting.

Saving money in a money driven business is …what’s the word?

      Ah that’s it. Suicidal.

  • witTank April 25, 2018 at 10:05 am

Lovely use of bold type HH or is it because Ive just upgraded from IE 1.0 ?

    • Harry Hotspur April 25, 2018 at 10:09 am

Heh heh, I just thought I’d bash the Flat Earthers over the head – extra hard – this morning!

      • witTank April 25, 2018 at 10:19 am

    Really? You work for UNO?

    Caution here regarding Arsenal.

I was under the impression that Wenger was reluctant to spend cash that WAS available. That he hadn’t moved with the times and was still looking for top class players hidden down the backs of sofas as were available 20 years ago when he first built his title winning teams.

His hand was eventually forced and bought players like Ozil. Expensive (at the time) and currently on 300 grand per year. So there is money at Arsenal, but not perhaps spent wisely.

    • Gloster1861 April 25, 2018 at 9:59 am

      Correction: 300k per week!😀

      • Harry Hotspur April 25, 2018 at 10:04 am

There is money at all the big clubs (yes, including us) it is simply a game of brinkmanship as to how far the owner will go before he will spend.

        What a shocker.

Levy & Lewis held their ground…

    • witTank April 25, 2018 at 10:04 am

Always felt Wenger was generally nervous about spending big money in case He got it wrong. He has several examples (as do most managers)

    • Accy April 25, 2018 at 10:22 am

Kroenke has taken circa £600m out of the club since he took over.

      • Harry Hotspur April 25, 2018 at 10:31 am

That’s about what Spurs have sunk (not including loans) into this exlpoitaion project.

Had to share this which was sent in by a reader this morning. Not sure where it is from but is utterly brilliant.

    Why?

Because the guy whining about me – is using a t shirt I designed as his avatar.

    You couldn’t make it up.

    • Freund or Foe April 25, 2018 at 10:30 am

Talking T-shirts, where the fuck is the “FAKINEL” T-shirt I was promised with my subscription fee?
