Eriksen Talk Takes A Twist Levy Misses The Point Again

By The Boy -

The Independent have gone out on limb, suggesting that Christian Eriksen has been offered a wage parity with Harry Kane.

Other places online cite quite astronomical figures up to £250,000 a week which must surely be an invention based upon earning as much as Kane, plus bonuses.

The saddening aspect here is that had it all merely been about money, then ENIC would have surely paid this man – and others – what they worth from the very start.

Thus avoiding the ill-will created by dragging negotiations along endlessly.

The problem THFC faces is that far from all the players inside the camp are aboard the Big Bright Future Bus.

Real Madrid would not just offer Eriksen the money that he wants, but the glory that he craves.

Real Madrid would offer him a place in starting XI that wasn’t dysfunctional.

The Levy fetishists are in for a rum old summer.

Whatever papering over the cracks takes place in-between now and the end of this season will be found out when the club goes to fans for that crucial indicator – the second round of season ticket sales.

For the love of… just back Pochettino and make Spurs great again. Is it really that complicated?!

Yeah I agree with alot of that. I’d like to see Toby and Jan stay, and as much for helping bring the nxt two through as I doubt you could learn as young players from a better partnership than those two. The point I’m trying to get at is unless we start getting in players for the here and now, we are unlikely to start winning things as everything is always about tomorrow. We need one or two people who can see how a game is going and do what needs to be done to alter outcomes in our favour, thinking wolves, the semi last year and the juve game. And people will want to move in order to win things. Think the pay story is gonna rumble as long as enic are here, but as I keep saying, we have the best ground, the best this the best that. Now that all needs to be matched on the pitch.

You could find there is a caveat of this nature, but knowing Levy its for £200m or something and I imagine Eriksen is fully aware that prices him out of a move when in the summer Spurs would struggle to ask for £100m. I think he wants to leave for silverware, nothing else, I don’t think its about money.

Spot on. As ever we leave ourselves open for abusive press. Sign up Erickson, Jan and Toby on big deals and it all goes away.

Give fans a fixed date for opening, it all goes away.

Only saving grace Spurs have at this time in the transfer market is a young player with aspirations will see us as a perfect stepping stone. We will give them a chance if they are worth it, we will sell them when they get good enough, and we will give them a showroom to earn that top club…while with us they MAY win something. I think this is what Levy wants, he wants young hungry players to know that we will not trap them in forever contracts so he can make some wedge.

The thing is, none of us know whether it “will be ok.”

Eriksen has stated more than once that it is no longer up to him, he leaves that up to his people, and that there has been talk.

I choose to believe Eriksen on that. He strikes me as a very straight shooter, and very well balanced in thought and action. He will sim0ly weigh everything out when his reps call him in for talks, and he will do what he thinks is best.

It is a given that THFC will have to continue to expand wage barriers to get to consistently great levels. IMO, Eriksen and Kane are great places to build those up.

Can Spurs pay Chris any amount that would keep him away from Madrid ? I believe that is possible. Can Spurs pay Chris any amount that would keep him from his dream Barca ? I honestly think not.

Is everything going to be ok ? Honestly, I am not easy to push into a fetal position in the corner in the first place.

I would like to see Spurs put every effort into keeping him.

I think Spurs should pay Toby as well. I am sentimental about Vertonghen, but he is at an age where his physical limitations will soon make him a target of the fetal position types anyway. Spurs fans are terribly fickle.

I would like to see Vertonghen paid fairly, and possibly be testimonial material in the future. however, it is tough to know when to apply sentiment in the business of footy.

I’m slightly confused by one aspect of the Eriksen saga. We have been told for many years that Barcelona were interested, but a bit put off by perceptions of inconsistency. I’ve not, until quite recently, heard Real mentioned. Barcelona have just signed Rabiot on a free, and Madrid are presumablys till interested in Hazard, so where is the opening?

I’d love for any of the dumb dumb to come on now and say it’s all gonna be OK. No it isn’t. We are about to lose a large slice of the spine of the team. Throw in hugos up and down form and basically we are left with alli and kane from the spine of a once promising side. The reason is that players want the best wages they can get, they are human after all, and they want to win something. Now in order to do that your asking ahell of alot of your manager to keep giving him players for the future. We need players for now. They won’t have the same resale value and will want paying the going rate. So that’s us fucked then. And anyone who thinks you can expect to keep alli and kane when they see the rest of them going, think walker already doubled his cash and got a prem winners medal, I’m sorry you need professional help. Keep saying it buts it’s so true. We now need to show what we are about, and I got a sinking feeling

If Eriksen signs a new deal, there will surely be a clause to let him leave for certain clubs, probably Real or Barca. In fact that agreement could be in his current deal. The only obstacle is agreeing a deal as I’m sure that the deal would have to be agreeable to the selling club.

I have no idea why this is being talked about now however as there’s no way he’s leaving this month.

The media love to use the month of January to talk about transfers, even ones that would be totally irrelevant to this transfer window…

As you say, I don’t think its about money on this one (Toby may have been at the start, not now). I think short of buying a history like Real’s we are losing Eriksen and Toby, if not now then in the summer. The key is what we do with the money. We either go out and show some intent, buy a CB that is close to Toby if not as good, and a creative spark that can match Eriksen, or compliment what we have to do the same (i.e sit in midfield and give Alli or Skipp the platform). The problem, for all the “we WILL lose them”, or “its not about the money what could levy do” type talk, the issue will always be, these guys will not be replaced with like for like! The scenario I picture…Toby and Eriksen go for combined £100-£120m, levy then goes and buys 5-8 players, 3 of them will be £25-35m each, the rest will be “potential” none will have PL experience, and MAYBE 1 will be from a CL team (not a good one). These will then turn into the new version of the Bale 7. That said…the Bale 7 did bring us Eriksen, just took him a while to be worth it.
