Following on from Gladys’ news on our ongoing dealings with Manchester United for and about Luke Shaw and Danny Rose – it was during these discussions – the subject of Harry Kane was broached by the United boss, Ed Woodward.
Whilst the press appear to have reminders set in their phone calendars to publish ‘something/anything’ linking Kane with an exit from Tottenham, there has been considerable interest. It’s just that they all jumped the gun by guessing about Real Madrid’s and they weren’t the first.
As per the new and improved relationship between the two sides, Woodward was apparently seeking to pull the Bald one’s chain and made a couple of references to United’s impending ‘mega-bid for Harry come the January window.
Daniel revealed that no less than nine sides have made direct enquiries about the World’s Occasionally Greatest Footballer Ever™ and the list may be of interest; PSG, Athletico Madrid, Inter, two Chinese League teams, Internazionale and most recently Real Madrid.
All the overtures were met with a polite, ‘no thank you’ and a reiteration that Kane wishes to remain committed to Spurs, and Spurs to him for as along as perhaps 5 or even 6 seasons.
‘Spurs are not selling Kane!’ does sound wishfully thin, but this is a slightly usual case, Kane never saw Spurs as a springboard to somewhere else and he has invested more than most footballers have ever had to become a Spurs hero.
In short, for Kaneinho the idea of quitting THFC in the short term would feel like he was throwing an awful lot away. If you want to make an emotional investment in a footballer, but always swore you never would again, the boy Kane is an attractive exception to lure your love back in…
Of all the expressions of interest, PSG were the least subtle and more than intimated that they wouldn’t hesitate to trump the fees already spent on M’Bappe and Neymer. This may provide an indication to those of you who occasionally mumble about ‘bubbles bursting’. There is nothing happening in football to suggest that this will vaguely be the case anytime soon.
