Early Balls, You Can’t Whack ’em

By The Boy -

Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier could prove to be the neighbour from hell for the next few days.

The 26-year-old was a surprise inclusion for Spurs as they eased past Watford on Saturday, and he proved to be one of the best players on the pitch in the 4-0 win.

After the game, the former Burnley man carried out a signed shirt from Hornets goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, with the former Tottenham stopper now living next door to Trippier.

“We are neighbours so I asked him if I could have his shirt,” he told Press Association Sport.

“I get on really well with him and we chat a lot. He’s a top guy. But I think the next time I knock to ask if I can borrow some milk he might slam the door in my face. We have a bit of banter but he was a top player here and we get on really well.”

Trippier laid on Son Heung-min’s second goal and was a menace with his crossing all afternoon after replacing Kyle Walker in Mauricio Pochettino’s side – something the former Manchester City trainee has always worked hard on.

“I’ve always practised ever since I was a youngster at City,” he said. “I know what an attribute it is so I try to do my best to get into positions where I can feed the ball into the strikers and create as many chances as I can. I’ve done that since I was a young boy.

“If you get the ball and see two or three players in the box, why wait? There is a great opportunity to get a goal, so I don’t try to beat a man. I just get the ball in early because that is what strikers love.

“I speak with the strikers, so as soon as I get the ball in dangerous areas they know what’s going to happen. I try to set up as many goals as I can.”
