Toby Alderweireld has signed for Totttenham Hotspur Football Club.

This is according to Gianluca DiMarzio.

The Sky Italia journalist say that a fee of €16million has been agreed, not including bonuses.

26-year-old Alderweireld would be a magnificent addition to a back that has for too many seasons been modelled on a Keystone Kop movies.

Last season’s sobering statistic was that Spurs leaked as many goals as relegated Burnley, whilst arguably having one of the world’s best goalkeepers between the sticks.

The Belgian spent last season on loan at St Mary’s and Saints boss Ronald Koeman made it plain that he was keen to sign the defender on a permanent deal this summer, but if this respected source’s transfer rumour is correct, then Pochettino has beaten the Saints boss to a prized asset.

There was talk of a suggested £6.8million release clause for the player to Southampton, but the suggestion always was that if Tottenham were prepared to pay the ‘right’ price, they could secure a deal.

Tobes is undoubtedly a class act, having 3 times won the Eridivise in addition to success in the Primera División, KNVB Beker, Super Cup. He’s also played for his country 49 times.

Fingers crossed this is on the money.

Precisely that sort of signing that has been overdue for some considerable time.
