‘Do Spurs actually need much more in the way of players?’
This is a question atet believe it or don’t is still floating around much like something that cannily avoids even the most concerted attempts at flushing.
The THFC squad curreconsists of 25* players. Which in splendid isolation doesn’t sound too shabby. Until you realise that only West Brom and the now dearly departed Hull City have fewer.
When we drill down into who actually comprises the 24 it looks less great. As we do this, can I please ask readers to consider that we are supposedly a top flight team challenging for honours and not a drop in centre for the emotionally vulnerable.
Squads belonging to trophy winning teams, successful teams, are mostly comprised of quality players and robust characters that get the job done. Not kids with runny noses who after several years of nurturing and kindness might, just might, be less sh*t than they were before you took them in. And hoped.
Erik Lamela is out until October. Ossie Ardiles who apparently has some connections with Spurs has said its 50/50 he ever comes back at all. In October he’ll have not played professional football for a year. At this moment in time the little flower is working on his ‘thumbs up’ game.

Sissoko has been an abject failure. Some of you I know witnessed him join in once or twice and stood on your sofas applauding his pluck and verve, but he’s 42, 18 stone and only here because Baldy got him on a deal from Sports Direct. Giving a whole new meaning to the offer ‘add an extra large mug for just one pound.’

No’Cluedo isn’t fit to be on our bench. I don’t care if he’s fast. If he was better than poor, Poch would have done more with him than offered him leftover minutes. Unless someone is going to suggest Poch doesn’t watch them train.

Kyle Walker-Peters, Vorm, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Onomah, Davie, Wimmer and Janssen are all bench material.
And it’s here that we need to understand what a bench is – it’s not comprised of players that were not quite decent enough to make the first team. A bench is where your stand-ins and maybe a game-changer if you’re lucky should be sitting.
If you ‘want to see more of ________’ then buy a ticket to go and watch them waste somebody else’s valuable playing time. This is the Peemier League and it’s decidedly unforgiving.
Not including injuries – which nobody ever ever seems to want to contemplate – there is no way on god’s green earth that we are prepared for a season at Wembley, the Champions League, the FA cup and the League cup.
