Depressing ITK

Depressing ITK

I’ll be fascinated to hear a Flat Earther  e x p l a i n  away this little lot.

Unless something seismic occurs we’re not reinforcing properly and it’s fingers crossed time again. How on earth are we supposed to remain competitive, whilst depleting the first XI?

Oxymoron isn’t in it.

I disagree, were not in a good place. ENIC are in a good place and the football as ever, is on the back burner.

Walker-Peters is a long way away from being a Premier League grade footballer.

Two pieces of ITK then, both from the COYS forum.

AtlantaYid

After a brief chat with my friend on Tuesday the big man is hell bent on keeping the team together.I think the understanding is that we have to keep tight books for the next few years so might have to sell one or two players but not at the expense of being competitive.

We’re in a good place COYS

HertYid

Walker probably leaving. Rumour at club is Levy has put 60m price tag on him. He will probably go for less but they paid £50m for Stones and £35m for a GK so Levy likely to dig in.

I was previously told by someone involved in youth setup that if Walker left, KWP would get more game time. I’ve now been told by someone else that we would likely bring in another RB but that Trippier will be first choice. As we all know the Poch game-plan asks a lot of the full-backs so we will need four first team players rotating throughout the season. KWP will definitely start to feature though.

There is more money than ever flowing into EPL clubs which is why the lower clubs have been adding players to strengthen that normally they would not be able to afford. The big clubs at the top will invest significant amounts as they are focused on “winning stuff” because they know that is what they need to do to retain the best players and attract more. For 17 odd years we ave on trophy to show ENICS stewardship a league cup victory from a ball bouncing off the back of Woodgates head. Each season we fund any new player acquisitions with the sale of existing players so that ENIC can pat themselves on the head with the ole zero net spend shuffle. Any investment has gone into property assets. ENIC have not invested in the football side of the business hence the desert of winning that we have been wandering around in for 17 years. This window is a massive indicator of whether they have any intent towards football success. It is clear that if we brought in two or three top quality players we could mount a challenge for the title or trophy that would then give us the ,momentum moving in to the new stadium. If we became successful this season at “winning” then we could strengthen with even more quality next season whilst keeping our best players and we would fill the new stadium and create the money flow to sustain further success which is supposed to be the miasion according to the PR spin. If we attempt yet again to fudge through another season with a wafer thin squad at Wembley we will misfire like a damp squid and that will mean we will move into the new stadium with a whimper rather than a roar. it will also hoist ENICS colours firmly to the mast and no question we will fail to keep this squad together. Pooch has reached the point now where he has to start actually winning competitions as the project storyline will not support his failure to do so any longer. If he allows Levy and ENIC to derail football success and just sucks it up then he will be as culpable as ENIC in my opinion and will indicate that he is just in it for the dollar like ENIC

    Freund or Foe

We’ve paid 340mil off of the stadium costs so far, 100mil of that was borrowed. That’ll do it.

    Eh? No we haven’t.

We’ve just borrowed more than that.

    • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:59 am

      Yes, we have.
And yes, we`ve just borrowed more than that.

      • 61SpursNut🌰 July 1, 2017 at 10:13 am

We’ve “spent” 340m. Whether we’ve “paid it off” is debatable.

        • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 10:17 am

100mil of it is debt. This was part of the initial 200mil loan, which has now been replaced with a 400mil facility.

        • Harry Hotspur July 1, 2017 at 10:40 am

We haven’t paid of a nickel. The loan was only taken out a few weeks ago 🙄

          • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 10:43 am

We`ve paid off 240mil. 340mil has been spent so far, we had a 200mil loan of which we`ve used 100mil. We then got a 400mil loan, which paid off the 100mil from the initial loan, meaning we have 300mil left to use for the remainder of the stadium costs. What is so hard to understand?

            • Harry Hotspur July 1, 2017 at 12:08 pm

I think the confusion is that you’re conflating historic loans and payments with how we stand today.

Which is up to our uterus in debt.

              • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 12:23 pm

I`m not mate, I`m quite clear. We are currently in 400mil debt. We could extend this by 75mil, which is made up of a 25mil facility from HSBC, and 50mil that ENIC have allocated if necessary. Our total debt could therefore be 475mil. We have spent 240mil out of club resources, and we have 300mil left from the 400mil loan. It`s all in the below club statement link, in black and white. I get that you are worried about the debt, and understand why, but I`m not, It`s covered by the increase in revenue. I get that this means we won`t be competing for transfers and wages with those around us until the debt is paid off, but this will be the quickest way to get us on level terms.

                • Harry Hotspur July 1, 2017 at 1:41 pm

I disagree on the ‘level terms’ bit and this is the fundamental difference – money and status. Spurs aren’t offering status or money. I’m confused that Levy knows much about either.

        http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/club/announcement/club-announcement-new-stadium-scheme-financing-310517/

The Club has expended over £340m on the acquisition of land, the planning process (including a compulsory purchase order and legal challenges) and build costs to date, which now sees the upper tiers of the North stand being fitted with terracing. This was financed with resources of the Club plus the £100m drawn under the Interim Financing.

It’s not a surprise. The stadium is the excuse for the next couple of summer windows. I fear we will drop out of the top 4 next season because of Wembley, and then big players will leave. This could be the peak for a number of years – finishing 2nd and CL. It’s been a good couple of seasons under Poch. Enjoy it, lads.

    • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:02 am

      It’s a pretty good excuse.

      • Camus July 1, 2017 at 9:07 am

Enic aren’t paying a penny towards it though, are they?

        • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:11 am

          No. Why should they?

          • Camus July 1, 2017 at 9:14 am

Essentially, what I’m saying is there was no money for transfers before we started building the stadium (under AVB and then Poch) and there still isn’t now. So ‘stadium’ as an excuse for not spending in the transfer market is a red herring as far as I can make out.

            • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:18 am

We’ve been paying for the stadium for years. Land, architects. No red herring here.

              • Camus July 1, 2017 at 9:23 am

Ok, and who is the stadium for? Once up and running, will it bring in additional revenue that will be pumped into transfers to strengthen the team to compete for titles? I think the answer’s no. So the status quo re. transfers will never change.

                • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:28 am

My answer is yes, your answer is no. Camus, ENIC haven’t taken a penny out of THFC. Your suggestion is that when the money starts rolling in, they are just going to take it all, not allocate it to the club. There is no evidence for this.

                  • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:49 am

Joe Lewis will die, not having taken a penny from the club. Ok, he`s hardly put a penny in either. What a greedy, selfish bastard.

                • AccringtonSpurs July 1, 2017 at 9:52 am

The business model is to buy low and sell high. Even with the new stadium I’ve zero confidence that will change.

            • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:22 am

The profit figures are there for all to see, year on year. No dividends have been taken, no duffel bags. What do you think has happened to the money then?

              • Harry Hotspur July 1, 2017 at 9:55 am

Well there’s a decade’s worth of dicking about with architects and lawyers to be considered. Then there’s Levy paying himself more than any other chairman.

Oh, you can add in the pay offs to shit-house players we had to offload. And I bet if a team of forensic accountants spent a week going through the books we could find enough material to write a comedy series that would eclipse Only Fools And Horses.

There are many ways to shift money out of a business and if ENIC are supposedly doing this for their health as the books suggest, I’m a monkey’s uncle.

Next someone will be telling me that this farce is a catalyst for regeneration. Oh, hang on…

                • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 10:11 am

Shift money out of the business? What, like paying players extra and then meeting them in a dark alley with a duffel bag?

                  • Harry Hotspur July 1, 2017 at 10:41 am

I think the method for paying player’s wages are probably beyond reproach.

  • AccringtonSpurs July 1, 2017 at 7:34 am

Does anyone know the actual windfall received from qualifying for Chumpions League 2 years in a row? I know people go on about the duffel bags but there doesn’t seem to be any money being taken out of the club? I suspect we need to show a profit each year while the stadium is being built in order to have a good credit rating for the lenders.

If we’re only spending what we sell when it comes to transfers, what is happening to all this extra cash? I know the question has been asked before, just can’t understand it.

    • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 8:35 am

We’ve paid 340mil off of the stadium costs so far, 100mil of that was borrowed. That’ll do it.

      • AccringtonSpurs July 1, 2017 at 8:48 am

We couldn’t assume that we would qualify for CL two years in a row – i.e.., we couldn’t count on that money. Similarly, when we were planning the stadium, we didn’t know about the new TV deal and all the extra revenue that would bring, so surely wouldn’t have factored that into repayments/outlays?

        • Freund or Foe July 1, 2017 at 9:00 am

I get the impression we’re trying to pay off as much as possible, to reduce the debt burden of the stadium. We had a 200mil loan, but only pulled 100mil of it.

        • Ronan July 1, 2017 at 9:03 am

Yes, those windfalls should be invested in bringing in more quality. We’re only a whisker away now from taking a historic prize, not a time for burying unexpected inflows in the stadium.

          • AccringtonSpurs July 1, 2017 at 9:08 am

Wonder if Levy would rather we didn’t win anything. The amount to be saved on bonuses and unactivated add-ons.

i am sure this will annoy many, not least our esteemed host, but i dare say ron will get it.
spurs under levy are about as good as spurs have ever been! ok before you reach for heavy objects or at least search for new abusive words to hurl at me let me try to explain.
i took a periods of five consecutive years and 8 consecutive years through the history of the club. i looked at where the team finished, added the positions and came with totals. low points are therefore good and winning the title for five years in a row would give the minimum score of 5 points.
now keep in mind that in the ’60’s we were a rich club, we were the equivalent of a chelsea or utd today. we broke the transfer record with some regularity (eg greaves in 61, chivers in ’68 and peters in ’70). with the arrival of russian oligarchs, arab oil princes and yanks with more money than sense those days are unlikely to return any time soon, if ever.
so bill nick’s best years 5 years (60-61 to 63-64) gave a low 13 points. his best 8 seasons (consecutive) included the next three and we had 30 points.
of course we won it in ’51 and a year later came 2nd. but that was followed by 10th, 16th and 16th. we were 3rd in ’71 but 11th the year before and again two years later.
what of hoddle and ardlies? (i suspect that many on this site have great affection for those years and prob began their support at that time). well 4th in ’82 and ’83 but 10th in ’81 and 8th in ’84. 3rd in ’87 but 13th the next year.
so how does the current/recent team stack up against the double winning team and its immediate successors? last 5 years gives 21 points and the last 8 years gives 34, so not as good yet but as noted i am not sure many on this site were watching the double winning team and so for those folk, as good as it has been.
now the scream will be “we want trophies”. i understand. but for those of us who sit there every week the delight in a cup win in may does not completely make up for crap many other saturdays, especially crappy games against qpr in an fa cup final replay. yes there was glory in the hoddle/ardiles era, but there were also 7-0 losses to liverpool. not saying i do not want trophies, but a clear progression and good football every week is making me quite happy.
of course we did really well at the start of the 20th century in the southern league but ron will have to describe those games to you.

Nice angle. The gripe I have with Daniel is the 2 bosses who gave us the best times during his tenure were jol and harry, both of whom were not his choices they were back up and damage control, and he treated them like muck. Poch is the first that’s come off and if he don’t back him this ain’t going nowhere either.

      • cyril June 30, 2017 at 11:26 pm

well i would no doubt enjoy a beer with harry but want him nowhere near my club. he was supported thro his stint op and throughout his trial and then he lost all interest when the england job came up a few hours after his acquittal. he is, in my view, about harry and that is the start and end of it.

            • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 11:42 pm

Well that’s peculiar behaviour, if that happened then that would effect things. But after it all was done. Harry was ready to go forward with spurs. Given the choice of them previous years of football to continue or the fella who took Chelsea out the top 4, I find it insane that he made that decision. Not many like H though it seems.

my friend who sits next to me has been going for 50 years, as have i altho he was much more frequent as a kid. we both agreed that against chelsea this last season at 2-0 we had almost no anxiety about losing. in 2008 when beating arsenal 5-1 we were both anxious!

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 11:34 pm

We have been great under poch. He’s worked miracles in spite of support from the chairman with a waffour thin squad, in python terms, but the future is concerning if we don’t consolidate. The noises are not confidence inducing.

          • Alwaysnextweek June 30, 2017 at 11:39 pm

You keep having a pop at the chairman. Joe is the one who provides the funds( or in our case doesn’t). Dan deserves credit that few are willing to give for out performing those better off than ourselves.

            • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 11:45 pm

              Their all responsible.

    • Jim,Newry Spur. July 1, 2017 at 12:26 am

Spurs also had a problem after winning the Double, almost no other English club would sell to them, hence having to go to Italy for Jimmy Greaves. Bill Nicholson wanted Bobby Moore, and others of that quality but was turned down. The death of John White was a terrible blow, as Bill wanted to build a new Spurs team with him at the heart after the departure of Blanchflower.

Time for Levy to mention the world class training ground and our Academy. As if other clubs share the facilities of the local comprehensive school.

It looks obvious that Pochettino will be expected to polish another batch of kids to fill in for the gaps that will appear next season.

    • Alwaysnextweek June 30, 2017 at 10:53 pm

Think this is a holding season, as we can’t repeat our home form from last season. So keeping our players may be more important than new ones.
Am hoping for a cup this season.

        • Alwaysnextweek June 30, 2017 at 11:01 pm

Think we would have had a couple over the last 10 years if we weren’t so preoccupied with top 4.

If I recall we were playing severely weakened teams prior to Uefa 84. That wouldn’t be permitted now yet Mourinho can do it with Utd.

          • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 11:02 pm

            He’s special apparently.

            • gloster1861 June 30, 2017 at 11:04 pm

United are special. They were allowed to not take part in the FA Cup one year due to more pressing games. They do what the f*** they like.

            • Alwaysnextweek June 30, 2017 at 11:04 pm

Look I am a flat earther, but I will admit our focus on top 4 has cost us trophies over the years. And that I don’t agree with.

              • gloster1861 June 30, 2017 at 11:07 pm

The squad is too weak to compete in all competitions. It’ll be same again this season.

We’ve got to be realists, apparently.

              • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 11:09 pm

The way its become the be all and end all isn’t good. We all love a European night but not a the cost of everything else…..including a hundred odd year old ground.

As expected, bugger all to get excited about in terms of transfers this summer.

It’s hard to improve in what we have with our wage structure. Any player wanted by another big club will get paid better elswhere. Thats why we have punts on the likes of Sissy, Cludo and Vinny, nobody else of our stature wants them…

Everton have signed 2 players, as have City. Manure and Arse 1 (on a free), Chelsea none, like us.

Pickford, Klaassen, Onyekuru. Although I accept they have loaned the last guy back to Anderlecht. I thought they had signed Sandro as well, but not yet finalised. And of course they are trying for Keane.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 30, 2017 at 10:26 pm

So that’s a reach, to say if we do get to the opening day without strengthening with quality, then the financial situation of the league we are in means a backwards step isn’t the end of the world, in fact, very far from the end of the world, for spurs owners. Must be all the acid I did as a youth. Didn’t seem that imaginative.

Independent reports Poch as wanting to give Onomah, Winks, and KWP a chance of starring for first team. He sees Onomah’s future on the wings and not as a box to box midfielder, hopes he can do what Sissoko and N’Koudou couldn’t. Looks more and more like there are going to be very few new recruits. Marcus Edwards misses preseason as he is off to Georgia with England U19s. Time for Marcus to show what he is made of.

Still pop into the 24 hr bagel shop at the top of evering rd with stokey high rd on a night duty for a brew popping back over the border from haringey to hackney via Stamford hill.

What he’s saying is the window isn’t open so what’s the point in expecting something now. Keep calm and carry on.

Like FFP, the window is meaningless. Everton have tied up four, or us it five, new players , outside this notional window

    • gloster1861 June 30, 2017 at 7:17 pm

Koeman’s new recruits will get a full preseason and hit the ground running. And good luck to Everton.

      • UnkleTaff June 30, 2017 at 7:49 pm

Everton can sign as many players as they like, they still won’t finish above us next year.

    • Freund or Foe June 30, 2017 at 7:29 pm

Everton have signed 2 players, as have City. Manure and Arse 1 (on a free), Chelsea none, like us.

      • gloster1861 June 30, 2017 at 7:36 pm

Are you comparing what Chelsea will do, to Levy?

        • Freund or Foe June 30, 2017 at 7:38 pm

No. I’m saying Everton haven’t signed 4, or is it 5 players, and our competitors haven’t been splashing either. Poor bastards won’t get a full pre-season.

          • Al June 30, 2017 at 7:42 pm

In a month, who do you think will have added recruits and who do you think won’t have? we all know the answer.

            • Freund or Foe June 30, 2017 at 7:44 pm

We all? I Al, me thinks. Unless you’ve already surveyed everyone?

    • AntSpurs June 30, 2017 at 7:49 pm

Until contracts are signed it’s fair game. If Everton are confident that the player is fully committed and won’t be interested elsewhere, and that no other club will step in then that’s the risk they take. I would much prefer to keep our cards close to our chest. There is always the risk that the player will use an offer to alert bigger clubs with more clout/money/attractiveness of location etc. As we have seen before. Clubs like Chelsea/City/Utd can sit back, let other clubs invest heavily in their time and efforts during the recruitment process, getting to the stage the player shows he’s serious about a move, then step in, up the offer and you kiss goodbye to him. I’m not sure Everton have the same problem we do but still I think it’s a bit naive of them to declare it this early.

      • AntSpurs June 30, 2017 at 7:54 pm

Saying that I am sure that if we really wanted Klaasen or anyone else they’re planning to sign, I’m pretty sure we could. If we don’t then Poch won’t have wanted him in the first place.

How I don’t weigh 22 stone is a miracle. I have been known to over indulge on more than a few occasions like this evening for example (large cod and chips ) and yet I weigh today what I weighed when I was 18. I know what I weighed when I was 18 because I still have my id card from the army and it has all my details on it. Thank you Lord.
    Now, what’s for pudding?

Kensington and Chelsea Council leader Nick Paget-Brown has resigned following continued criticism of the council’s handling of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Mr Paget-Brown faced calls to resign from London Mayor Sadiq Khan and a number of other senior politicians.

Not surprising when seemingly aloof and an absolute wally!

    • gloster1861 June 30, 2017 at 6:37 pm

A wonderful example of a caring, sharing, man of the people.

Amass a huge surplus by strategies such as ordering the cheapest materials and services, and bribe voters shortly before the council elections.

Maybe the git is heading to South America.

    • Harry Hotspur June 30, 2017 at 7:04 pm

This was the same lot that were incapable of getting the votes counted in time in the election.

    • JuandeInternational June 30, 2017 at 7:42 pm

And yet he was still trying to cling on so more likely it was go or we push you. Can’t help feeling the council is trying be seen to be doing the right things in order to lessen the potential for future corporate prosecution.
