Home » Defender Deal Dead?

There appears to be a fair amount of undergarment twisting going on, so I thought I’d add to it.

According to yesterday’s AS, Fernando Roig, the Villarreal president has been against the sale of Mateo Musacchio from the beginning. It is little surprise that the supposed deal has dragged on.

First the complication of third party ownership was thrown up, which didn’t on the face of matters appear to make much sense. Sure, you can own a percentage in a player. It’s something that has become increasingly routine in many parts of the world. But to be able to dictate the minimum value your percentage is worth? It seems ambitious, to put it mildly.

Now it’s reported that Roig has offered “Moustachio” an upgraded deal, one that would put little distance between it and the offer from us, that had turned his head.

There was a time when personal terms being agreed stood for something. These days, coaches, managers et cetera just wander around saying ‘yeah, yeah, yeah” until the music stops. Whereupon the grab the fattest cheque.

In short, this could still happen, obviously. But not without a fight. You hadn’t planned to go out for the evening on deadline day night, anyway, had you?
