Cut Price Deal For Champions League Winner On The Cards?

By The Boy -

Football is underway again, and once the bickering informed negotiations are concluded, then English football will be able to join the party.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has been a much-discussed transfer target for Tottenham, and Football Insider now believes that the 24-year-old has declined numerous attempts by Southampton to get him to sign an extension to stay at St Mary’s.

Højbjerg reportedly also hired the services of super-agent Pini Zahavi, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, hardly an indication of a player being settled with his lot. The player has a lot to offer, with experience beyond the Premier League, he picked up a Champions League winner’s medal at Bayern Munich.

As far as a 24-year-old holding midfielder goes, Spurs could do with one. Eric Dier hasn’t really worked, and on occasion, it is still confusing to understand precisely what role Harry Winks plays.

Such a deal would certainly fit the template for Mourinho in a post Coronavirus landscape, Pierre’s contract expires in the summer of 2021 and Southampton are not a side that one would imagine having weathered the economic storm so well that concessions could be refused.

We have a lot of ball carriers but not someone who can stick their boot in and dominate the midfield. This is the role NDombele needs to play to be a success at Spurs. Even with NDombele playing there, we need more capable players in the position. Potentially we could play hoijberg sitting, with NDom further up if need be. We need these options.

Hoijberg looks a decent player to me. He would fit straight in and need no time to acclimatise to the league. I say it would be a good signing. Mourinho has history turning these types of players into greats.

He’s not a world beater but I think he’s a step up from Winks, Dier and Sissoko. I still think Kalvin Phillips of Leeds is a better footballer than him (not proven at the top level though), but if he’s not available who is?
