Spurs vs Newport under the lights.

The Welsh will arrive with their tails up and deservedly so after a better than credible performance at Rodney Park on the 27th of last month.

The 1-1 draw was very nearly a banana skin, and it was a combination of County running out of steam and the ever supersonic Harry Kane in the 82nd minute that spared Tottenham’s blushes.

After that game Harry said “It was very difficult and credit to Newport, they had a game plan, made it difficult for us and we weren’t great, especially in the first half.”

Spurs are understandably strong favourites for tonight’s re-run, but have the bookies gone berserk, pricing them at 1/14 on?! A draw at 90minutes is 11/1 and an away win is 14/1.

If you’re looking for any value in the betting then you’ll find slim pickings looking for it from a Spurs player. Better value is to be found with either First Goalscorer or Anytime Scorer markets for Newport. It’s not out of the question that they might pinch a consolation prize this evening, even though an actual win is surely out of the question.

Tottenham to score in both halves might be free money, even at 2/5. If you want to channel your inner sadomasochist then Spurs to win on penalties is 40/1!

I have an inkling that Lamela and Llorente are going to strike up an understanding.

Sissoko hat trick, you know it’s coming.

    Sissoko’s perfect ricochet hatrick:
    Back of head
    Left buttock
    Right buttock

Watching the news and an old newport fan said they wud win 8-0 – i just checked ladbrokes – newport to win 1-0 is 100/1 – no price for 8-0

If bookies operate the same way that they used to when I were a lad then an 8-0 Newport win would still only be 100-1.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? February 7, 2018 at 7:04 pm

Just noticed a big old faux pas in talk sports commentary at the end of the first match at Newport. “….and Newport County have held big spending Tottenham…”. Hmmmm? Big spending. Don’t fink so.

    • UnkleTaff February 7, 2018 at 7:06 pm

      Er, we are big-spending.

Don’t confuse net spend with outlay.

    • gloster1861 February 7, 2018 at 7:01 pm

That’s because Sissoko is anathema to me. A man who seems perpetually surprised by a football rolling towards him.

      • Willie! February 7, 2018 at 7:04 pm

He’s fast, has stamina, covers tons of ground, not afraid of a tackle, gets back and generally works hard for the team, puts in dangerous cut-backs often. If he had any kind of first-touch at all, he’d be awesome. Sadly, my first touch is better (and I’m shit), and he alternatively fascinates and infuriates me.

        • gloster1861 February 7, 2018 at 7:07 pm

Let’s watch carefully tonight. I am quietly confident that he will be less use than a traffic cone.

          • Willie! February 7, 2018 at 7:08 pm

At least the cone doubles as a megaphone.

    • gloster1861 February 7, 2018 at 7:04 pm

That was my team, except I mistakenly included Moura (not Sissoko of course) as I forgot he wasn’t eligible.

He played well against United, but otherwise he’s been poor for a month or more. Give him a rest for 10 days or so, go lay on the beach in the sun, come back refreshed for the run-in.

Team: Tottenham Hotspur: Vorm, Aurier, Alderweireld, Foyth, Rose, Wanyama, Winks, Sissoko, Lamela, Son, Llorente.
Subs: Gazzaniga, Trippier, Sanchez, Walker-Peters, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

First goal scorer, I’d throw a few bucks on Lamela and Llorente

    1. Wm Hill have Spurs to score in first 15 mins @ 5/2 (wager a tenner on this)
    2. Bet 365 offer 5/6 for a card in the first 40 mins of the game (worth a ton)
    3. Paddy Power are offering 5/1 Son to be first goal scorer ( obviously wait until line up is confirmed )(shirley worth a score)

    • gloster1861 February 7, 2018 at 5:22 pm

Just a thought, we start strong with a good team and settle the game in thirty minutes, then play keep ball and take off Kane and Eriksen at half time and they can relax.

Or, we could put out a team who look like strangers and give encouragement to Newport and end up slinging on Kane, Eriksen and Alli to win it.
