Lucas Moura won a few admirers last night.

You can only play the team in front of you so ‘they were only a League One mob’ is at best unkind.

That said Spurs fans have more form than Shergar when it comes to hysterically embracing new players. Donna Cullen recently received an email from one supporter asking what he was supposed to do with his ‘Marcus Edwards – Tottenham Legend’ tattoo.

Brazil international Moura, speaking after starting and scoring in the dramatic FA Cup draw at Rochdale has further boosted his appeal with the following post match quote:

“I believe that because we have a lot of quality, a great structure – I am really impressed – and I think we can dream with the Champions League.”

Best thing since sliced bread? We’ll obviously need to see him against more typical opposition and Crystal Palace away is perhaps an ideal opportunity to dip his toe in the Premier League water.

Michel Vorm’s contract ends in June. He is now age 34. He has been a great backup keeper, and a squad member who has been satisfied in his role, keeping himself ready between long spells. Do Spurs extend him ?

    • Mad Carew February 19, 2018 at 8:28 pm

      Year on year.

    • gloster1861 February 19, 2018 at 8:30 pm

We’ve not succeeded bringing through a young keeper. Several good prospects but none went on. I’d make Gazzaniga no 2, but maybe Poch will bring back that keeper currently in Spain.

  • MiT February 19, 2018 at 8:19 pm

The face of this squad is about to change, especially in the back line. Nothing any fans can do about it – time has no mercy, and players will age. Vertonghen has been with Spurs since 2012. He will be age 31 next year at the end of his contract. Toby would be age 30 at the end of his contract in June 2020. These players have to start doing what is best for themselves and for their own families. If someone else competitive is willing to sign them through age 32, then they need to heavily consider it. No sense in crying or fretting over any of it – this is just the way of life. Another young lion must eventually earn how to lead the pride.

    • Mad Carew February 19, 2018 at 8:24 pm

Very true MiT, fine for now but only worth a year to year extension at the end of contract, better cash in now and get a decent return, sure Poch can work a bit more magic.
Fernandinho is not trying to score, Aguero not either.

      • Mad Carew February 19, 2018 at 8:27 pm

Toby after £110k, he’s on £50k, Daniel won’t wear that, if he did there’d be no money left to pay Sissoko, then there would be trouble, he might down tools !

        • MiT February 19, 2018 at 8:30 pm

If Toby would extend to June 2021 (age 31) at 80k per, do you think Spurs should do it ?

I’m honestly not so sure. But as a fan, I would love to see it.

          • Mad Carew February 19, 2018 at 8:39 pm

Daniel will play hardball £70k with a years extension and no clause, then Toby would be sold for sure, clear as day.

I have read a lot of “wise” men words today on how MP is not too clever, “lightening striking twice, once in Newport and the Rochdale! what type of dumb ass coach is he ??? etc etc “. Just remember couple of seasons back? we were battered by the Germans in the Europa?
It was blindingly apparent the man is trying to do his best! he has a Rigsby type landlord ruling his financial purse strings, therefore a limited squad as to what he wants in reality. He gave the “fringe” players a good go yesterday. This may seem like madness but imagine if Moussa or the Great Dane slipped and did a hamstring on the new surface? he would be slaughtered….
Lets see what we end up with this season? it might be the 3/5’s of fuck all we normally end up with?

        Yep.

    • gloster1861 February 19, 2018 at 7:18 pm

That Matthew Falden just got 32 years for his disgusting crimes to children. He has shown no remorse. He should be sent to a normal prison to mix with prisoners who have families.

Instead he will no doubt go to a prison for sex offenders.

      • AntSpurs February 19, 2018 at 7:28 pm

He will most likely be on a paedo wing but e will be looking over his shoulder. He still has to get his food (which will be spiked with glass, bleach, bodily fluids, all sorts). He’ll have to mingle a bit due to visits (if he gets any) church etc. The screws will have it in for him as well. Also hell still most likely be able to hear threats etc from the other wings. He deserves everything he gets but trust me, he won’t get an easy ride.

        • gloster1861 February 19, 2018 at 7:32 pm

In Usk near Abergavenny is a prison specifically for ‘vulnerable prisoners’. This means for sex offenders, and sime convicted police officers and other civil servants. In other words, protected.

          • AntSpurs February 19, 2018 at 7:39 pm

Ok that’s that then, stick him on a non vulnerable wing and right and run a bet get book on how long it take last someone to take him out. I’d give it 5 minutes. Id prefer to see a long, slow and more painful sentence. Cold showers, shit food, daily rehabilitation having to see families and those children affected. Maybe behind a screen or in one of those vices which your head and hands go through but to throw sponges at. Although the sentence of 32 years is a good one and unusual he should have got 32 years for each child who he has abused.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? February 19, 2018 at 7:30 pm

They’d get done in on normal wing. Too much mess for the system to deal with.

  • gloster1861 February 19, 2018 at 6:36 pm

We know Son’s form can be patchy, but when he’s good he is a match winner like Kane and Eriksen.

Of more concern is Winks. Just like Ryan Mason, Winks’ form has dipped and not remotely returned to his pre injury level. Exactly the same happened to Mason, he was in rich form and then an injury (was it the Sunderland game?) changed everything.

    • AntSpurs February 19, 2018 at 6:57 pm

Hey Glos. Really don’t see the madness in Poch’s selection and expecting a different result. I would guess that it works like this: no disrespect but against Rochdale and Newport I doubt he expected us to lose and if we did, he’s already claimed the FA a priority (until we have a better squad) .

For the fringe players, if they are not ready to compete and win in a competitive game, then they need more game time so for that I’m sure Poch will happy for this. It’s different if we have to play the first 11.

Although there were 11 changes from the Juve game this was a team full of regulars who will be needed in the run in. Anything else is madness unless you prioritise it over CL and top 4.

      • AntSpurs February 19, 2018 at 6:58 pm

        *not a priority

        • AntSpurs February 19, 2018 at 7:01 pm

I mean top 4 and FA cup are not exclusive however with this squad (mainly due to injuries) it’s too much. Anyway Pochs using the FA cup for game time. Will he put out a strong team for the final ? 🤔

          • gloster1861 February 19, 2018 at 7:36 pm

If the final was the last game of the season, why not?

Or maybe as a utility player, because he is equally effective in every position.

  • Matt February 19, 2018 at 6:12 pm

Not a disaster. Bit embarrassing. We’ll win at Wembley and won’t need to play Harry and Alli for more than 35 mins at worst. What we did learn is that Rose, Llorente need to be sold. Winks, not as sure as we all were. I thought Moura and Foyth showed a lot of promise.

    • LOL-1175 February 19, 2018 at 6:20 pm

  • LOL-1175 February 19, 2018 at 5:35 pm

It’s difficult to decide which is worse- going overboard after a player has kicked a ball for us or going overboard on a player such as Aurier before he has kicked a ball for us. After all he was hailed as an oven ready, ‘winner’ assist machine when he signed- and then we actually saw him play………

    • David Dillenberg February 19, 2018 at 5:51 pm

Time and time again we just struggle to beat these lower league teams. Seems the mentality is still not one of a winner, we seem to think they will collapse at the mere site of our super duper players, when in fact they don’t respect of fear us.
Rochdale relaid their pitch for their benefit, we thought they did it for us to show what a fantastic football team we are. They embarrassed us for large parts of the game and deserved the draw at least. It doesn’t matter any how, we won’t win the fa or cl , cause we just don’t know how to. Losers.

    • ronwol196061🇨🇦 February 19, 2018 at 5:04 pm

We know how to win when a stronger team attacks us and we counter+find space.
Rochdale were brilliant in pressing us. We had little room and when ee were ready to bring Kane and Dele on,Poch took Moura (the only effective passer) off.
It shoes he is a one track pony.
He needs to create against these teams using the ball control of Dembele/Eriksen/Moura. But he is stuck on his system.
Pep understands how to adjust. Poch is not there …yet..maybe never. Who knows. He us the best we have had for many years and maybe the best we can hope for.If only he will develop himself and the team.

      • Andrew February 19, 2018 at 5:41 pm

I couldn’t understand why moura was substituted, he was the only positive for me, maybe poch wants to ease him in. We had too many players coming back from injury and had not played for ages, but still it’s disappointing. Son and Lorrente were very disappointing, and they weren’t coming back from injury

        • Horndog February 19, 2018 at 5:59 pm

Moura being substituted not a surprise here. He has hardly played a lick in the last six months. Will be interesting to see if/how he will used against Palace.

    Two Two tutus
    Rochdale Hutus
    moot points point to Wembey
    bring on Dembele
    hold the mayo
    hold the ball
    look for a man
    Its not difficult at all

    Counters against the bouncers
    waste of space
    Passing of Moura
    point is sorer
    putting on Nova Kane
    stops the pain
    Passing now poorer
    No supply no corer
    run abat a bit
    Schnapps style tits
    a big annoyer

    But look whats the point
    a return to the joint
    Where we will annoint
    a fifth round tie
    a peice of the pie
    gor the good
    The positive being
    Semis seeing
    Those bastards attempting to attack
    The counter pushes them back
    a pot beckons,some impact
    Lets stay on track
    a 5 year plan
    The stadiums crammed
    Hallelujah

“Hallelujah”, a beautiful song by the late Leonard Cohen.

What a brilliant bloke he was and where most people struggle with life he created his even designed his death with a couple of great albums

And very interesting life. Mystery surrounds Cohen. The Stranger song is a particular beauty.

Saw him live at Kilmainham in Dublin 10 years ago? Relatively awesome in places.

          Relatively damning praise, in places…

We mustn’t get relegated anytime soon, we’d be fucked in the lower leagues.

  • Nick February 19, 2018 at 4:05 pm

On contemplation of the game yesterday & against Newport the overwhelming thought is that our mentality stinks. If we can’t have a Winning, ruthless streak against those inferior to us,how are we ever supposed to win anything against Decent opposition? You can hope for the underdog (us against city or any champions league heavyweight) up & at em but do we really have the personnel to take that final step to become elite?

    • mattspurs February 19, 2018 at 4:11 pm

My worry is that the ‘B’ players are now by and large aware that they won’t be playing big games unless there are some serious injuries and are utterly demotivated. Sissko, Llorient and Rose look like they are just trying to make it to the summer

      • Accy February 19, 2018 at 4:42 pm

I still can’t believe we bought Sissoko and Llorente.

What grates is that they were deadline day scrambles – names Levy had heard of. They weren’t scouted and no thought was given to how they’d fit into the team.

        • Accy February 19, 2018 at 4:43 pm

We finished 2nd – and that’s who we attract.

Accy when you want to go to a restaurant. How do you choose?
            Based on quality,taste,status?
Levy doesnt care that much for food. He eats to live he doesnt live to eat. So he looks for a place thats tasty, edible and not ridiculously priced unless he wants to impress someone.
We cannot expect more from him. This is who he is.
At some point he will need to impress and has all the money to do so and he will.
            Get the drift.

Makes for a waste dump that is even nastier than usual at times.

  • Nick February 19, 2018 at 3:58 pm

Did more in his first few mins than llorente & sissoko have since they signed.I still believe he’s another andros but the way he kept running into players reminded me of Simon Davies or matty etherington. Those comparisons do not bode well

  • richspurs February 19, 2018 at 3:50 pm

    We will see.

  • mattspurs February 19, 2018 at 3:48 pm

Better than Son and Sissoko – that’s enough for me given how much game time they’ve had this season
