Benteke, Lennon, Alderwiereld, Kebab

By The Boy -

Good morning.

The transfer inertia is simmering gently; if you are anywhere near the septic isle I’m currently sitting on then the heat is only adding to the short shrift fan are giving most rumours .

The Evening Standard is paying no heed to that fact that Toby Alderweireld has returned from the honeymoon that so many outlets blamed for his inability to sign for the mighty chicken badge.

So plan B it is from the Standard, and we assured that Spurs “remain confident on Alderweireld”.

This sounds like a soundbite from a competitor at Wimbledon, who knows full well he’s out of the tournament after his next game.

Ronald Koeman doesn’t outwardly share this confidence:

The player likes to stay.

We like to keep the player but it’s a little difficult at the moment with Atletico Madrid, I have a good hope he will stay at Southampton.”

ITK courtesy of Trix on the COYS forum says that the only business Spurs and Everton will be doing this summer is extending Aaron Lennon’s loan deal.

Presumably this is unless some unhinged lunatic of a club comes in for Azza Blud and offers THFC a suitable amount of cash money.

What will be amusing to discover is if Azza not only manages to put in another blazing start to a new deal, but actually sustain it for the bulk of a season.

My money’s on him getting ‘injured’ before he becomes and invaluable asset to the Toffees.

The Guardian believe that Crystal Palace have ‘leap-frogged’ us and West Ham in the running to sign Yohan Kebab.

This implies some great strength of effort, when in reality Wee Jimmy Krankie could have hopped past Spurs on this occasion as we never had any discussions with or intentions to land the player.

The former Toon player has stalled at PSG, and the bookies say that Palace are now 1/10 on to sign the midfielder for £9million less than the French ‘giants’ paid for him.

Back to The Standard to close, and once you get past the nonsense suggestion that Tim Sherwood is going to swap Christian Benteke for Emmanuel Adebayor, there is an interesting snippet in the piece.

But Standard Sport understands the Belgium striker remains unhappy with the way Spurs acted when they tried to buy him two years ago and his preference is a move to Liverpool.

Benteke handed in a transfer request in 2013 because he thought Spurs were about to offer Villa £25million.

However, no bid was made, leaving Benteke in an awkward position and he eventually signed a new contract at Villa Park.”

This sort of bungle doesn’t surprise me in the least.

It’s difficult to believe that Villa would have sold Benteke for as little as £25million back then.

Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if Spurs chanced their arm by suggesting to the player that a transfer request might do the trick, only for Spurs to change their mind/have their hands tied due to another deal not happening which would facilitate this one.

More as I don’t get it.
