Barca’s Messi-less Starting XI

By The Boy -

Spurs have just one point from their opening three Champions League matches – that’s the stat we need to rid ourselves of!

Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 28 home Champions League games (W26 D2). They’ve scored 87 goals in that run, while conceding just 13 and never more than once in a match.

Since the start of 1976-77, Barcelona have lost just one of their 30 European home matches against English clubs; this coming against Liverpool in February 2007 (1-2).

Barcelona have won their Champions League group for the 12th consecutive season. However, the winner of Group B has only won the Champions League once (Real Madrid in 2013-14).

Barcelona have lost just one of their last 12 Champions League meetings with English clubs (W9 D2 L1), with that defeat coming in November 2016 at Manchester City (1-3).

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been involved in 28 goals (22 goals, 6 assists) in 29 Champions League appearances against English clubs.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has scored 22 goals against English clubs in the Champions League; 10 more than any other player (Cristiano Ronaldo, 12 goals).

It’s mind numbing how poor we are at corners, and so fixable

Oh yes, Moura and Lamela certainly played their part as did others but MS & CE were head and shoulders above the rest.
Eriksen was sublime and Sissoko, what a superb big game player.

I think the Crystal Palace match, when Allardyce was in charge and Eriksen scored a 30 yarder? We switched formations as well, and we took off a carded Moussa?

With shooting boots on we could have scored 3 or 4, it’s barcelona, they weren’t really trying. Given what we’re capable of (see goon match) I agree, we did rather well.

If we meet again in the knock-outs and beat them again I’ll crack open the 2003 La Chapelle.

Which is why fans that prattle on about the League Cup and that “at least it’s a trophy” do my head in.

That’s the only trophy we’ve won in 20 bloody years and we won it twice. We need to move on from that mentality, it’s a ‘Spursy’ attitude.

There are some out there that would rather win the League Cup rather than qualify for the CL. They’re either mental or still think it’s 1983…

It’s a terrible call Easty, he’s shown nothing to suggest he could cut it at this level. Why not play Toby at right back (his position for Holland) and drop Dier back as the right sided centre-back. Makes no sense.

No sooner are my eyes open Clive Allen I think is speaking of a February opening date for the stadium, as much as I’d like to live in a world where Spurs get an against the odds draw in the Nou Camp to qualify for the knock out stages its all a little too convenient, and as it turned out, not against the odds at all according to bookies at kick off. You take the Barca team selection and couple it with their below par performance and Inters pathetic attempt complete with a gift goal and its difficult to take it at face value. February is when the next stage begins, and the very morning after the match the February opening is being pushed. ‘The only place to watch CL football in London’. For now, its still a promise. ENIC just bought themselves 2 months of grace from fans who will now take this latest carrot and chomp on it till then……’it could be ready for the knockouts’ etc etc

I’m tired. Its a masquerade.

Would take Eriksen off Corner Duty though, first 3 didn’t beat the first man and 4th straight to Keeper, but his passing and vision was superb against quality opposition.
