There’s been a flood of ‘Bale could miss Spurs clash’ headlines this evening.
The Welshman sat out a game versus Espanyol on Sunday and is supposedly set to also miss his International fixtures against Georgia and Republic of Ireland.
How serious the muscle strain is – is anyone’s guess. It apparently came as a reaction to some cramp. What kind of eclipses this whole episode is that for all the hoo-ha of Bale joining the jet set, the now 28 year old has in truth cut quite a peripheral figure in Spain.
Whilst I’m sure Gareth will be quick to tell people that he’s won – amongst other things – 3 back to back Champions League titles, but he’s spent more time in the physio-room that he has on the pitch.
Bale’s missed 9,346 minutes of playing time and so only been available to play for 43% of the time that he’s been with Real Madrid. Which is pretty bizarre. If you already knew all this, then well done you and have a very shiny star.
On the balance of probability, Bale will struggle to make our game against Real on the 17th.
IF the strain is a mild as his first dose in Spain was back in 2015, then he’ll only be out for a fortnight. If it’s on a par with his last two bouts, then he’ll be out of action for a month.
One thing’s for certain. The next Spurs fan that suggests we snap Bale up if he returns to Blighty might want to explain why it is that they would want to sabotage us…
