Another Cut N’ Shunt From The Sun

By The Boy -

Manchester City are offering Spurs £20million for Ben Davies.

The contstruct from The Sun‘s Mick McGrath here is that City’s back four is in a muddle and our Welshman would prove handy as a stand-in for Vincent Kompany.

As usual with these things, there’s a fair amount of show and tell going on, with McGrath showing us lots and telling us nothing.

£20million might add credibility to the tale (if you’re about 12years of age) and it’s true that Danny Rose is keeping Davies pretty much glued to the bench, but 50% of that last statement is ‘made up’.

Is Davies worth £20million? A player is only worth what someone will actually pay for them, not what a chairman decides to ask.

Spurs paid a little over £10million for the 23 year old in 2014, so the question is, has the value of a player who has been such a peripheral figure value doubled?

It’s quite possible that Levy might demand £20million, after all he wants £8million for the non event that is Tom Carroll.

Let’s look at what Man City have picked up in recent seasons around the £20million mark. The list is short; Negredo, Nasri, and Ilkay Gündogan.

I like Davies, but I don’t see him in the same price bracket as any of the above. Nor do I see him as an obvious stand in for the legendary Kompany.

One would have hoped that once the pay-wall came down, their tales wouldn’t be quite so tall.
