All 4 Goals + Highlights [video]

By The Boy -

Tottenham kept themselves in the Premier League title race with a 3-1 win over Leicester, who saw Jamie Vardy miss a penalty with his first touch of the game, which was frankly hilarious.

The Steptoe reincarnate was visually handed the ball on an ermine cushion and it was a dreadful strike.

Goals from Davinson Sanchez, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min inspired a fourth successive victory which ensures Spurs will finish the weekend within five points of top spot.

The only elephant in the room of course is goal difference.

He played well yesterday, in a game where we played aweful. I have noticed his best games coincide with our worst performances. I think its because standing next to good players exposes him, standing next to poor he can shine.

“he’s a nuisance to us when we have it (the ball)” Too true, it often seems, but Poch seems to like him! But then, what other alternatives does he have?

For what it’s worth, thought he played well yesterday.

About to watch the match again, so I’ll double check.

Yes, we probably did strike it lucky when Vardy didn’t start, though their way of playing now (in a more cultured fashion) doesn’t play so well to his strengths ie his pace!

Yes, with the way we are playing, will our present points cushion be enough to secure Top Four and, hopefully another finish in the first three? I’m not at all sure. And, agreed, we’d have been taken apart yesterday by Liverpool or City.

I watched the game on catchup last night and we were awful.I thought Leicester deserved a draw at the very least and they looked a promising young side. They had two or three players who wouldn’t look out of place in our squad and we were pulled all over the place at times.
I’m not sure why Barnes was rushed back from his loan spell with WBA,but he doesn’t have the composure for the PL.Whatever Puel’s problem is with Vardy he is clearly their best striker. We struck lucky when he didn’t start.
How we are winning ugly so often is a mystery.Again much of our play was sideways and backwards. As stated below when we meet the better sides we could be in big trouble. Will our points cushion be enough to hang onto a top four position?

He is only in our starting 11 because we have no-one else to play there. His reputation is purely based on lack of quality alternatives. He is a lump that runs around a lot and can be a nuisance to them when they have the ball (problem is he is a nuisance to us when we have it).

While, Legoverlass, I would agree with most of what you’re saying re our performances and your concerns as to how we’ll fare in our matches against City & Liverpool etc., I can’t concur with the Man utd bit. We deserved to win that game in my view, their goalkeeper pulling off a string of tremendous saves – mostly with his feet! (never before seen a goalkeeper make so many saves that way)

Yes, Eddie, we were pretty awful, the 3-1 scoreline not reflecting the game at all. Very flattering. DD and I thought Leicester were the better team. It looked to me that Leicester would get back to parity and perhaps go on and win the match, so I was fearing the worst when they got their penalty. The pub we were watching the game at had started to have some technical problems (they were trying to get the rugby up on other screens) and we kept losing the picture and we lost it again while the penalty was going on!

It’s all opinions now. He had a good game yesterday and is now one of our best players (starting XI). Would he get into City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd’s sides? Probably not. BUt he’s keeping us moving and that’s what matters right now.

We beat them 3-1, had Sonny got the deserved pen it could have been more. Leicester were good and clearly raise their game when they play us. However the scorline doesn’t lie. No Kane, no Alli, still smashed em…

Just read this…
“Sissoko hasn’t just improved, his entire game has transformed. His mental strength and attitude is up there with the world’s best. Sissoko can run, pass, hold it up, is versatile in various positions and scares the shit out of opposition players. The only thing I can fault him for is his shooting. For such a big man, his ability and agility is faultless.”

HOW FUCKING DELUDED are some people? Sissoko is better than I thought possible, but still he is simply not a player that would make any other top team in the world. he is poor with the ball.

These recent results are yet another false dawn. We have lost two top players in Kane and Ali but have had a string of games against mid table and below teams. We have struggled to beat them and never looked totally superior against any of them. The last top teams we played were Man Utd in the EPL and Chelsea in the Carabo cup and they both looked better quality than us in those games. We have some more encounters ahead with top sides and with no midfield to speak of and defensive weakness along our right flank and at times our left flank we will get pulled apart and I sense us getting soundly beaten. Trippier against Sterling or Sane makes my waters break….

Well, yeah, goal difference – we can’t compete with City on that one – this season they’ve gone to another level in that regard. Surely they’ll finish this season with a record breaking goal difference for the PL?

Partly the Wembley factor goes against us (which opposition player doesn’t want to score a goal at Wembley yada yada) – and partly City have this fear factor where a lot of teams (I’ll try and be nice about it) ‘give up a bit’ and have their bellies tickled. Chelsea (that’s right, Chelsea!) gave up just yesterday.

No, it’d have to be a points pip at the post for us to win this thing. We need to win the next one away against Burnley and United to cause some deep psychological wound to Pep and his hired gun galacticos in their next league fixture. A repeat of the job they just did on Chelsea against their neighbours and they could run away with it. They’ve already had a couple of tiny dips of form, doubt they’d look back again if they get momentum now.

Exposing Spurs defence IMO best constructed goal of the lot was the Foxes goal.
Breaking political news on ITV Breakfast is that J K Rowling and Rachael Riley have apparently formed a new breakaway Labour Party already got 6 defected Labour MPs.

I watch the game last night, and all I was thinking (other than how the F are we winning this) was imagine if we had spent £50-60m in the summer…reinforced with a real holding midfielder…I have heard things like “no purchasing is being worn like a badge of honor” but all I think is BLOODY HELL!! I see 3rd and think, we are injury ravaged, not had a real midfield all year and we are 3rd! imagine what 1 player could have changed!
